I was signing the receipt for my credit card purchase when the clerk noticed I had never signed my name on the back of the credit card. She informed me that she could not complete the transaction unless the card was signed. When I asked why, she explained that it was necessary to compare the signature I had just signed on the receipt. So I signed the credit card in front of her. She carefully compared that signature to the one I had just signed on the receipt.
As luck would have it, they matched.

Greetings my Beloved Sisters and Brothers, and welcome once again to the Church that is Within.

So… did you all remember to set your clocks forward an hour for Daylight Savings Time yet?
True, there are those few fortunate who live in places where Daylight Savings Time is not observed… Go Ahead… Get an extra hour of sleep… see if We care! Think we Don't? ;-)

How's Your life doing?

Are you satisfied?

Quotes
*******
(From: The RSV Bible - John 1:1-4)
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God; all things were made through him, and without him was not anything made that was made. In him was life, and the life was the light of men.

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-147 Section-3)
"None of us can do much to change the difficulties of life unless we discover the Father in heaven so wills. After all, we are all beholden to do the will of the Eternal. If you could all be healed of your physical afflictions, you would indeed marvel, but it is even greater that you should be cleansed of all spiritual disease and find yourselves healed of all moral infirmities. You are all God's children; you are the sons of the heavenly Father. The bonds of time may seem to afflict you, but the God of eternity loves you. And when the time of judgment shall come, fear not, you shall all find, not only justice, but an abundance of mercy. Verily, verily, I say to you: He who hears the gospel of the kingdom and believes in this teaching of sonship with God, has eternal life; already are such believers passing from judgment and death to light and life.

(From: Carl Jung)
As far as we can discern, the sole purpose of human existence is to kindle a light in the darkness of mere being.

(From: Margaret Fuller)
If you have knowledge, let others light their candles at it.

(From: The RSV Bible - Matthew 5:14-16)
"You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hid. Nor do men light a lamp and put it under a bushel, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.

(From: Elizabeth Cady Stanton, 1890)
The moment we begin to fear the opinions of others and hesitate to tell the truth that is in us, and from motives of policy are silent when we should speak, the divine floods of light and life no longer flow into our souls.

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-130 Section-1)
"My friend, we are all Jonahs with lives to live in accordance with the will of God, and at all times when we seek to escape the present duty of living by running away to far-off enticements, we thereby put ourselves in the immediate control of those influences which are not directed by the powers of truth and the forces of righteousness. The flight from duty is the sacrifice of truth. The escape from the service of light and life can only result in those distressing conflicts with the difficult whales of selfishness which lead eventually to darkness and death unless such God-forsaking Jonahs shall turn their hearts, even when in the very depths of despair, to seek after God and his goodness. And when such disheartened souls sincerely seek for God--hunger for truth and thirst for righteousness--there is nothing that can hold them in further captivity. No matter into what great depths they may have fallen, when they seek the light with a whole heart, the spirit of the Lord God of heaven will deliver them from their captivity; the evil circumstances of life will spew them out upon the dry land of fresh opportunities for renewed service and wiser living."

(From: Henry George)
Let no man imagine that he has no influence. Whoever he may be, and wherever he may be placed, the man who thinks becomes a light and a power.

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-193 Section-0)
"When, by living faith, you become divinely God-conscious, you are then born of the spirit as children of light and life, even the eternal life wherewith you shall ascend the universe of universes and attain the experience of finding God the Father on Paradise.

(From: Mahatma Gandhi)
In the attitude of silence the soul finds the path in a clearer light, and what is elusive and deceptive resolves itself into crystal clearness. Our life is a long and arduous quest after Truth.

(From: The RSV Bible - John 8:12)
Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, "I am the light of the world; he who follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life."

(From: Sri Madhava)
Freedom, then, lies only in our innate human capacity to choose between different sorts of bondage, bondage to desire or self esteem, or bondage to the light that lightens all our lives.

(From: Hannah More)
One kernel is felt in a hogshead; one drop of water helps to swell the ocean; a spark of fire helps to give light to the world. None are too small, too feeble, too poor to be of service. Think of this and act.

(From: Rantarason 2/2/02 - The Garden TeaM)
You are not waiting for Light and Life. Light and Life is waiting for you. Be free. Dare to be free. Dare to own up to who you say you are. There is much to be had. There is much to discover, and Light and Life is just waiting for you to discover yourself.

(From: Mahatma Gandhi)
You must Be the change you wish to see in the world.

(From: Mahatma Gandhi)
The outward freedom that we shall attain will only be in exact proportion to the inward freedom to which we may have grown at a given moment. And if this is a correct view of freedom, our chief energy must be concentrated on achieving reform from within.

The Sermon
***********
Ever wish for “The Good Old Days?”

Ya know… “The Good Old Days” really weren't. We were more ignorant of what was Really going on in the world… in the family… in ourselves… but is ignorance better than the Light of Truth?

Many may wish to return to the days of their youth… to the days of unlimited Dreams… to the days of less responsibility… to days before the reality of individual survival set in… but it is typically qualified with “If only I knew then what I know now.” Funny… if they knew then what they know now, “Then” would not have been even remotely as enjoyable… as exciting… as carefree.

"These Are The Good Old Days." (Carly Simon)

Ignorance is not bliss. It is merely not yet knowing. All are ignorant to some greater or lesser degree. But… isn't it not knowing that fuels our quest for Truth? Ignorance is not a bad thing… unless of course we embrace and cling to it.

If we wait for the world to change before we first change ourselves, then Our world will not change.
If all delay their own growth for the growth of the whole, then the whole will not grow.

Make Your part of the world a more True, Beautiful and Good place to be, and the world becomes that much more a True, Beautiful and Good place for all.

Personal Attitude determines the True Value of an experience.

It is but a matter of Perspective…

…and Perspective is like the oil in an engine. Fresh, it lubricates and protects the moving parts… used for too long, it does more damage than good.

Do you remember when you changed your oil last?

*******************************************
The Prayer
**********
Dear God,
Help me to shed those perspectives which no longer serve Your purposes of
Goodness and Light and Life, hence are a part of the problem rather than a part of the Solution.

You ALL are Within the Infinitely Loving Embrace of our Universal
Parent,

The Creator's Infinite Love to all of You,

Light And Life Garden Update
***************************
Last year at this time, April 15th to be exact, I reported:

“Our First Fruits have now been planted and should be productive in a year or so. Already Planted are the bareroots---4 Plum trees, 1 Rainier and 3 Bing Cherry trees, and a 5 variety Apple tree. Next week I will be planting the 2 varieties of Pear tree and 2 varieties of Blueberry bush that we have waiting in line. I have yet to get Raspberries to plant but hope to soon.”

As of Today, we have surviving and just beginning to leaf out for spring---1 5-variety semi-dwarf Apple Tree (about twice as tall as when we planted it), 2 different variety Plum trees, 3 spreading Bing Cherry Trees (and one bare-root Montmorency (pie) Cherry ready to plant hopefully today or tomorrow), 4 Pear trees (two varieties), 6 different varieties of Blueberry bush, and 40-50 thriving Raspberry plants. I know for sure that we will have an ample amount of Blueberries and an abundance of Raspberries this season, but it still may be too soon for the other fruits to produce yet this year… but we shall See! Just Perhaps…

The Kitchen/Dining area remodel is all but finished now that all of the new cabinets, and Urethane Flooring have been installed. Paint and trim will very soon finish that particular indoor phase of construction. Although there are already other interior indoor projects planned and ready for implementation, Spring is Springing outside and Nature waits for No man. It will be another Very busy year at “The Light and Life Garden.”

Quotes
*******
(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-68 Section-2)
While the level of intelligence has contributed considerably to the rate of cultural progress, society is essentially designed to lessen the risk element in the individual's mode of living, and it has progressed just as fast as it has succeeded in lessening pain and increasing the pleasure element in life. Thus does the whole social body push on slowly toward the goal of destiny--extinction or survival--depending on whether that goal is self-maintenance or self-gratification. Self-maintenance originates society, while excessive self-gratification destroys civilization.

(From: Lady Bird Johnson)
It's odd that you can get so anesthetized by your own pain or your own problem that you don't quite fully share the hell of someone close to you.

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-3 Section-5)
Is pleasure--the satisfaction of happiness--desirable? Then must man live in a world where the alternative of pain and the likelihood of suffering are ever-present experiential possibilities.

(From: Marcus Aurelius Antoninus (121 AD - 180 AD)
If you are distressed by anything external, the pain is not due to the thing itself, but to your estimate of it; and this you have the power to revoke at any moment.

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-86 Section-2)
Anxiety was a natural state of the savage mind. When men and women fall victims to excessive anxiety, they are simply reverting to the natural estate of their far-distant ancestors; and when anxiety becomes actually painful, it inhibits activity and unfailingly institutes evolutionary changes and biologic adaptations. Pain and suffering are essential to progressive evolution.

(From: The RSV Bible - Hebrews 12:11-13)
For the moment all discipline seems painful rather than pleasant; later it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it. Therefore lift your drooping hands and strengthen your weak knees, and make straight paths for your feet, so that what is lame may not be put out of joint but rather be healed.

(From: Sophocles)
One word frees us of all the weight and pain of life: That word is love.

(From: The RSV Bible - Revelation 21:3-4)
and I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, "Behold, the dwelling of God is with men. He will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself will be with them; he will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning nor crying nor pain any more, for the former things have passed away."

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-186 Section-5)
You mortals are the sons of God, and only one thing is required to make such a truth factual in your personal experience, and that is your spirit-born faith.

(From: Ham 4/7/02 - The Nashville TeaM)
Once you partake of the spirit and dedicate yourselves wholeheartedly to its dictates, fears can no longer harm you. But, should you turn away from the spirit, then fear will immediately take hold and your lives sink as low as they once were high. Relying upon the spirit is no easy task. It takes continual turning toward the spirit. It takes brining the spirit into every thought every decision. The requirements of the spirit are that you rely more and more upon him and less and less upon the unspiritual dictates of the mind.

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-156 Section-5)
The God-conscious mortal is certain of salvation; he is unafraid of life; he is honest and consistent. He knows how bravely to endure unavoidable suffering; he is uncomplaining when faced by inescapable hardship.

(From: M. Kathleen Casey)
Pain is inevitable. Suffering is optional.

(From: Lois McMaster Bujold)
But pain... seems to me an insufficient reason not to embrace life. Being dead is quite painless. Pain, like time, is going to come on regardless. Question is, what glorious moments can you win from life in addition to the pain?

*******************************************
The Sermon
***********
Try Replacing the Negative,

“Oh! What the Heck!” (some may prefer to use the word Hell instead of Heck---it's your choice)
And,
“Oh… What EV-er.”

With the Positive,

“OK… What Else?”
And,
“OK! What's Next?”

It is but a question of Attitude and of focusing upon Solutions more so than upon Problems. Easier said than done, to be Sure, but more than worth any effort it may take.

BE a Part of the Solution.

Go Ahead! Give Suffering a Long Vacation from your own Life… a One-Way ticket out would be even better.

Pain is a seemingly inevitable part of material life… Suffering is a misdirecting of Mind… Transcendence is an accomplishment of Soul and… Perfection is the Urge of Spirit.

Soul and Spirit Rule! (At least… life is a Lot better when they Do.)

*******************************************
The Prayer
**********
Dear God,
If we cannot avoid pain completely, then help us the better to Transcend it and to be Impervious to its influence.

A minister waited in line to have his car filled with gas just before a long holiday weekend. The attendant worked quickly, but there were many cars ahead of him in front of the service station.
Finally, the attendant motioned him toward a vacant pump. "Reverend," said the young man, "sorry about the delay. It seems as if everyone waits until the last minute to get ready for a long trip."
The minister chuckled, "I know what you mean. It's the same in my business."

(From: www.dictionary.com)

par·a·digm n. - A set of assumptions, concepts, values, and practices that constitutes a way of viewing reality for the community that shares them, especially in an intellectual discipline.

(From: Eric Hoffer)
In a time of drastic change it is the learners who inherit the future. The learned usually find themselves equipped to live in a world that no longer exists.

(From: Professor Irwin Corey)
If we don't change direction soon, we'll end up where we're going.

(From: William James)
Human beings, by changing the inner attitudes of their minds, can change the outer aspects of their lives.

(From: Abraham 4/14/02 - The Woods Cross TeaM)
You may make mistakes. You may even feel some self-disappointment, but the child of God realizes their Father is a loving God and does not seek to condemn you for your wrongdoing, no. He seeks to aid you in your growth. He seeks to lovingly correct. He seeks for you to turn to Him to build that bond between Parent and child.

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-146 Section-2)
The cry of the righteous is the faith act of the child of God which opens the door of the Father's storehouse of goodness, truth, and mercy, and these good gifts have long been in waiting for the son's approach and personal appropriation. Prayer does not change the divine attitude toward man, but it does change man's attitude toward the changeless Father. The motive of the prayer gives it right of way to the divine ear, not the social, economic, or outward religious status of the one who prays.

(From: The RSV Bible - Corinthians II 3:18)
And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being changed into his likeness from one degree of glory to another; for this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit.

(From: King Whitney Jr.)
Change has a considerable psychological impact on the human mind. To the fearful it is threatening because it means that things may get worse. To the hopeful it is encouraging because things may get better. To the confident it is inspiring because the challenge exists to make things better.

(From: Heraclitus (540 BC - 480 BC)
Nothing endures but change.

(From: Norman Vincent Peale)
Change your thoughts and you change your world.

(From: Albert Einstein)
If the facts don't fit the theory, change the facts.

(From: Georg Christoph Lichtenberg (1742 - 1799)
I cannot say whether things will get better if we change; what I can say is they must change if they are to get better.

(From: Aldous Huxley )
I wanted to change the world. But I have found that the only thing one can be sure of changing is oneself.

(From: The Darby Bible - Luke 8:15)
But that in the good ground, these are they who in an honest and good heart, having heard the word keep it, and bring forth fruit with patience.

(From: Albert Einstein)
Great spirits have always found violent opposition from mediocrities. The latter cannot understand it when a man does not thoughtlessly submit to hereditary prejudices but honestly and courageously uses his intelligence.

(From: Marcus Tullius Cicero (106 AD - 43 AD)
Where is there dignity unless there is honesty?

(From: Abraham 4/21/02 - The Woods Cross TeaM)
Culture, society, even work environment, teach men and women to believe that only certain lifestyles are worth attaining. If we are honest with ourselves, we can each say in truth that we all just want to be loved and accepted.

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-131 Section-1)
"The man who knows God looks upon all men as equal; they are his brethren. Those who are selfish, those who ignore their brothers in the flesh, have only weariness as their reward. Those who love their fellows and who have pure hearts shall see God. God never forgets sincerity. He will guide the honest of heart into the truth, for God is truth.

(From: Ralph Waldo Emerson)
A good intention but fixed and resolute - bent on high and holy ends, we shall find means to them on every side and at every moment; and even obstacles and opposition will but make us "like the fabled specter-ships," which sail the fastest in the very teeth of the wind.

(From: Abraham Lincoln)
Always bear in mind that your own resolution to success is more important than any other one thing.

(From: Ham 4/21/02 - The Nashville TeaM)
Turning toward God does not mean turning away from self. More a completion of self, a validation of self is the experience, in reality.

(From: Kahlil Gibran)
Tenderness and kindness are not signs of weakness and despair, but manifestations of strength and resolutions.

(From: Samuel Smiles)
"Where there is a will there is a way," is an old and true saying. He who resolves upon doing a thing, by that very resolution often scales the barriers to it, and secures its achievement. To think we are able, is almost to be so - to determine upon attainment is frequently attainment itself.

(From: T. T. Munger)
Providence has nothing good or high in store for one who does not resolutely aim at something high or good. A purpose is the eternal condition of success.

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-146 Section-3)
True and genuine inward certainty does not in the least fear outward analysis, nor does truth resent honest criticism. You should never forget that intolerance is the mask covering up the entertainment of secret doubts as to the trueness of one's belief. No man is at any time disturbed by his neighbor's attitude when he has perfect confidence in the truth of that which he wholeheartedly believes. Courage is the confidence of thoroughgoing honesty about those things which one professes to believe. Sincere men are unafraid of the critical examination of their true convictions and noble ideals."

(From: George Washington)
I hope I shall possess firmness and virtue enough to maintain what I consider the most enviable of all titles, the character of an honest man.
