A grandmother was telling her little granddaughter what her own childhood was like: "We used to skate outside on a pond.  I had a swing made from a tire; it hung from a tree in our front yard.  We rode our pony.  We picked wild raspberries in the woods." The little girl was wide-eyed, taking this in.  At last she said, "I sure wish I'd gotten to know you sooner!"

Greetings my Beloved Sisters and Brothers, and welcome once again to the Church that is Within.

What once was barren and desolate looking now swells to bursting with the promise of New Life, New Beauty, New Nourishment! Spring is becoming apparent now here in the Northwest Inland part of the USofA… potential is in the process of becoming actual. It is the first day of April, 2007 and all that is Good awaits the unfolding of time for the opportunity of becoming even Better.

The topic of today's Sunday Service, #545, is “Recognizing God's Love”…

*******************************************
The Sermon
***********
You've most likely heard it before, and More than likely you've even said it to someone before.
You'll more than likely hear it again, And, it's highly probable you'll Say it to someone again.

“What's that you say?”
“What's That?” you say.

Why that, “God Loves You.” Of course.

The most Fortunate among us have actually Felt it… coming in, and going out… flowing… Overflowing… Embracing… becoming a Part of them… recognizing it as a part of Everything.
“God Loves You.” “Yes I Know, of Course!”

I think that many Think that they probably have felt it, but aren't really sure… sometimes I think I have… but oftentimes I Don't… I Want to believe it… but then there's all the suffering, pain and sorrow… I wish I could Tell for positive… but I Can't really.
“God Loves You.” “I hope so…”

Some are pretty sure they have Never felt it… I'd like to believe it, but everything I can remember says it is not true… if you knew what I've been through… it doesn't Feel like it… I'm not good enough… why would he love Me?
“God Loves You.” “How Could he?”

Some don't seem to care… I'm busy… don't bother me… I don't have time for it… go tell someone else… wealth and power are all that matters… I take care of Myself.
“God Loves You.” “Yeah, so what's your Point?”

Some believe there Is no God… no original cause… nothing we can't see and touch and prove… love is just a human survival mechanism.
“God Loves You.” “You're deluded.”

OK so… If you don't believe or don't care, then what follows probably won't make any sense to you, so you can stop here if you want. [Come to think of it, if you don't care, then you are not here reading this… you are off practicing control and indifference.]

For everyone that's left, how Can you tell that God Loves you? How can you recognize it; how Do you recognize it? How much do you Want to be able to recognize it? How much do you Crave to recognize it? I would Love to give you “The Definitive Answer” but I can only give you My definitive answer.

There have been times I didn't believe… times I didn't care… times I was pretty sure I hadn't… times I thought that Maybe I had, but…

Now I am sure that I Do feel God's Love. Now I know that it was Always There… even when I wasn't sure… even when I thought not… even when I didn't believe… Even when I didn't care.

I recognize God's Love when…

…I see people acting out of Compassion.
…I feel Compassion for Others.
…I feel compassion for myself.

I recognize God's Love when…

…I see people caring about others.
…I can't help caring about others.
…I recognize others caring about me.

I recognize God's Love when…

…I see people unselfishly helping others.
…I get the urge to help others.
…others choose to help me.

I recognize God's Love when…

…I am with or observing my spouse.
…I am with or observing my child.
…I am with or observing my friends.

I recognize God's Love when…

…I recognize and appreciate the Gifts that others have been given.
…I recognize and appreciate the Gifts that I have been given.
…I recognize and appreciate that the Gifts I have been given, I could Not effectively use without God's help and guidance.

I recognize God's Love when…

…I want to.
…I choose to.
…I Allow myself to.

I recognize God's Love when…

…I am Fully Awake and Aware.

I Love you… because God loves You, and Shows me Why he Loves you.

I Love you like a Parent…
I Love you like a Child…
I Love you like a Sibling…
I Love you like a Friend…

Love is a Good thing.
Love is a God thing.

Let it In…
Let it Out.

Quotes
*******
(From: “Women Who Run With the Wolves” by Clarissa Pinkola Estes)

A Native American grandfather was talking to his grandson about how he felt. He said, "I feel as if I have two wolves fighting in my heart. One wolf is the vengeful, angry, violent one. The other wolf is the loving, compassionate one. The grandson asked him, Which wolf will win the fight in your heart? The grandfather answered, The one I feed.

(From: Ken Keyes Jr., Handbook of Higher Consciousness)
A loving person lives in a loving world. A hostile person lives in a hostile world. Everyone you meet is your mirror.

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-131 Section-1)
"In your lives overthrow error and overcome evil by the love of the living truth. In all your relations with men do good for evil. The Lord God is merciful and loving; he is forgiving. Let us love God, for he first loved us. By God's love and through his mercy we shall be saved. Poor men and rich men are brothers. God is their Father. The evil you would not have done you, do not to others.

(From: J. E. Buchrose)
Happiness comes more from loving than being loved; and often when our affection seems wounded it is only our vanity bleeding. To love, and to be hurt often, and to love again - this is the brave and happy life.

(From: Antonia Brenner)
I lived what most people call the good life. I was happy, but deep inside I always felt that, with the short amount of time we are given to live and love in this world, we spend too much time loving things instead of people.

(From: The ASB Bible - John 13:34-35 )
A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another,
even as I have loved you, that you also love one another.”
By this all men will know that you are My disciples,
if you have love for one another.

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-2 Section-5)
When man loses sight of the love of a personal God, the kingdom of God becomes merely the kingdom of good. Notwithstanding the infinite unity of the divine nature, love is the dominant characteristic of all God's personal dealings with his creatures.

(From: Mary Howitt)
God sends children for another purpose than merely to keep up the race - to enlarge our hearts; and to make us unselfish and full of kindly sympathies and affection; to give our shoulds higher aims; to call out all our faculties to extended enterprise and exertion and to bring round our firesides bright faces, happy smiles, and loving, tender hearts. My soul blesses the great Father, every day, that he has gladdened the earth with little children

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-174 Section-1)
"When a wise man understands the inner impulses of his fellows, he will love them. And when you love your brother, you have already forgiven him. This capacity to understand man's nature and forgive his apparent wrongdoing is Godlike. If you are wise parents, this is the way you will love and understand your children, even forgive them when transient misunderstanding has apparently separated you. The child, being immature and lacking in the fuller understanding of the depth of the child-father relationship, must frequently feel a sense of guilty separation from a father's full approval, but the true father is never conscious of any such separation. Sin is an experience of creature consciousness; it is not a part of God's consciousness.

(From: Anne-Sophie Swetchine)
To love deeply in one direction makes us more loving in all others.

(From: Mary S. Calderone)
I truly feel that there are as many ways of loving as there are people in the world and as there are days in the life of those people.

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-130 Section-2)
And Jesus answered: "Ganid, no man is a stranger to one who knows God. In the experience of finding the Father in heaven you discover that all men are your brothers, and does it seem strange that one should enjoy the exhilaration of meeting a newly discovered brother? To become acquainted with one's brothers and sisters, to know their problems and to learn to love them, is the supreme experience of living."

(From: George Eliot (1819 - 1880)
Blessed is the influence of one true, loving human soul on another.

(From: Abdul Baha, Paris Talks, p. 15)
Do not be content with showing friendship in words alone, let your heart burn with loving kindness for all who may cross your path.

(From: Lao Tzu)
Being deeply loved by someone gives you strength; while loving someone deeply gives you courage.

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-100 Section-4)
In physical life the senses tell of the existence of things; mind discovers the reality of meanings; but the spiritual experience reveals to the individual the true values of life. These high levels of human living are attained in the supreme love of God and in the unselfish love of man. If you love your fellow men, you must have discovered their values. Jesus loved men so much because he placed such a high value upon them. You can best discover values in your associates by discovering their motivation. If some one irritates you, causes feelings of resentment, you should sympathetically seek to discern his viewpoint, his reasons for such objectionable conduct. If once you understand your neighbor, you will become tolerant, and this tolerance will grow into friendship and ripen into love.

(From: The RSV Bible - Matthew 22:37-40)
And he said to him, "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it, You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments depend all the law and the prophets."

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-140 Section-5)
Jesus did not expect his followers to achieve an impossible manifestation of brotherly love, but he did expect them to so strive to be like God--to be perfect even as the Father in heaven is perfect--that they could begin to look upon man as God looks upon his creatures and therefore could begin to love men as God loves them--to show forth the beginnings of a fatherly affection.

(From: The RSV Bible - Corinthians I 13:1-13 )
If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. If I give away all I have, and if I deliver my body to be burned, but have not love, I gain nothing.
Love is patient and kind; love is not jealous or boastful; it is not arrogant or rude. Love does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrong, but rejoices in the right. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
Love never ends; as for prophecies, they will pass away; as for tongues, they will cease; as for knowledge, it will pass away. For our knowledge is imperfect and our prophecy is imperfect; but when the perfect comes, the imperfect will pass away.
When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child; when I became a man, I gave up childish ways. For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall understand fully, even as I have been fully understood. So faith, hope, love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love.

(From: “Jesus” - The Urantia Papers - Paper-192 Section-2)
Then said Jesus: "If you would serve me, serve my brethren in the flesh even as I have served you. And be not weary in this well-doing but persevere as one who has been ordained by God for this service of love.

Greetings my Beloved Sisters and Brothers, and welcome once again to the Church that is Within.

Usually on Easter Sunday, I do a Service on Resurrection. This being our 10th Church Within Easter Service, the “pickings” for new material are seemingly getting a bit thin. Though using a few excerpts from our past Easter Services as quotes for Today's service, I think I still may have gotten one more Fresh one out of the topic…

The topic of today's Easter Sunday Service, #546, is once again. Resurrection…

Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, and whoever lives and believes in me shall never die. Do you believe this?"

(From: The 2005 Easter Service of the Church Within)
May the Son-Rise…
Inspire Your Sunrise!

(From: “Jesus” - The Urantia Papers - Paper-147 Section-3)
“If you could all be healed of your physical afflictions, you would indeed marvel, but it is even greater that you should be cleansed of all spiritual disease and find yourselves healed of all moral infirmities. You are all God's children; you are the sons of the heavenly Father. The bonds of time may seem to afflict you, but the God of eternity loves you. And when the time of judgment shall come, fear not, you shall all find, not only justice, but an abundance of mercy. Verily, verily, I say to you: He who hears the gospel of the kingdom and believes in this teaching of sonship with God, has eternal life; already are such believers passing from judgment and death to light and life. And the hour is coming in which even those who are in the tombs shall hear the voice of the resurrection."

(From: Sr. Joan Chittester, a Roman Catholic, Benedictine nun)
“ The old news about Easter is that it is about the resurrection. The new news may be that it is not so much about the resurrection of Jesus as it is about our own.”

(From: “Jesus” - The Urantia Papers - Paper-193 Section-0)
"I lived my life in the flesh to show how you can, through loving service, become God-revealing to your fellow men even as, by loving you and serving you, I have become God-revealing to you. I have lived among you as the Son of Man that you, and all other men, might know that you are all indeed the sons of God.

(From: Olfana 4/17/95 - Half Moon Bay TeaM - www.hmbtm.com)
He showered this world with forgiveness and compassion! He saw, with sinless eyes, the drama unfolding before him. His heart opened to the pain and suffering, the fear and turmoil, that surrounded him in these final moments of his life--and with his compassionate heart, he offered forgiveness to all who sought to see him suffer. His nobility within this tragic drama was remarkable. His kind regard to all who judged him was most amazing. He did not look with anger upon any who condemned him. He saw them as the immature, and struggling, confused Children of God that they were. His focus was upon the Father. He redeemed this world through the power of the Father's Love!

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-187 Section-2)
Jesus' only words, as they nailed him to the crossbeam, were, "Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do."

(From: The 2005 Easter Service of the Church Within)
Resurrection isn't so much about “coming back from the dead,” I think…
As it is…
About the Continuance… the Revitalization… the Transformation… the Renewal of Life…
…after what only Looked, like death.

*******************************************
The Sermon
***********
For Many, Easter is about the Resurrection of Jesus. For others it is about the coming of Spring and New Life unfolding. For others still, Easter is about candy and Easter Egg Hunts. Even there are those who think of Easter as, “The Other day each year that I have to dress up and go to church.”

I think that this year, I will discourse upon Resurrection of a different sort…

The personal Resurrection from: Fear, Anger, Hatred, Resentment, Prejudice, Jealousy, Distrust and Fear.

Now, some may read that last line and think, “Oops! Pastor Daniel accidentally used the word Fear twice.” Others may have read it and thought, “I wonder if there is a Reason that he used the word Fear two times?” A few might look at it and just nod and smile.

So OK, I Did use the word Fear twice and… I did have a reason and… if you will look again…

“Fear, Anger, Hatred, Resentment, Prejudice, Jealousy, Distrust and Fear”

…you will notice that “Anger, Hatred, Resentment, Prejudice, Jealousy, Distrust” lie in between Fear and Fear. It is my observation, that Fear always comes Before “Anger, Hatred, Resentment, Prejudice, Jealousy, Distrust” and Fear is most often what immediately Follows “Anger, Hatred, Resentment, Prejudice, Jealousy, Distrust” as well. “Anger, Hatred, Resentment, Prejudice, Jealousy, Distrust”… they are but Symptoms. Fear is the Disease.

To one who is Truly without Fear… Anger, Hatred, Resentment, Prejudice, Jealousy and Distrust have no place in which to function.

Where there is Fear, there is no True Peace. Where there is True Peace, there is no Fear.

“I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear... And when it is gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear is gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.”

(From: Frank Herbert - “Dune”)

Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.
(From: The KJV Bible - Matthew 5:9 )

It's Easter and Time for a Resurrection!!!

…Time for a “Resurrection from the Dead!”
…from the dead weight of Fear.

Fear is the Disease, Love Is The Antidote.

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-101 Section-8)
Faith has falsified its trust when it presumes to deny realities and to confer upon its devotees assumed knowledge. Faith is a traitor when it fosters betrayal of intellectual integrity and belittles loyalty to supreme values and divine ideals. Faith never shuns the problem-solving duty of mortal living. Living faith does not foster bigotry, persecution, or intolerance.

(From: Michael 12/22/02 – the Woods Cross TeaM)
One who has vowed to live the spirit life really must choose to live with integrity and honor at all times. This is not to say there will be no mistakes made. This is to discover what you believe in and live that life.

Focusing your life solely on making a buck shows a certain poverty of ambition. It asks too little of yourself.

(From: Barack Obama, speech, Jul. 12, 2006)
We live in a culture that discourages empathy. A culture that too often tells us our principle goal in life is to be rich, thin, young, famous, safe, and entertained.

Winning is nice if you don't lose your integrity in the process.

(From: Alan Simpson)
If you have integrity, nothing else matters. If you don't have integrity, nothing else matters.

The Sermon

Is Integrity important to you?

Do you expect Integrity from others?
Do you demand Integrity from yourself?
Do you insist upon Integrity from your children?
Do they see that Integrity in you?

Can you envision a situation where Integrity is undesirable… harmful… a bad choice?

Is there ever any true justification for a lack of Integrity?

If you have complete confidence and steadfastness in your own Integrity, can others see it in you without you telling them that it is there?

Integrity…
Ya' gotta' Love it…

Welcome by: Pastor Daniel

Greetings my Beloved Sisters and Brothers, and welcome once again to the Church that is Within.

I was told once before, “You think real differently than a lot of people.” Ok… so I've been told it More than once, maybe a couple… or even a few times… Alright, alright, I've been told it a Lot, so What about it? I think that some of those times the people might really have meant “strangely” or “oddly” or “weirdly” but used the word differently in an attempt to be a bit kinder. ;-) Anyway, over the years I've not only learned to accept the fact, but have actually grown to appreciate it (Usually). My standard response, regardless of which word they actually meant, is “Thank You!” Sometimes I even notice it on my own without anyone telling me about it…

For example, when I sat down to do this Sunday Service the word “Gratitude” came to mind. My next thought was, “Well that's the same as being Thankful, isn't it?” …with fingers motionless upon the keyboard I thought about it for about an hour or more…

The topic of today's Sunday Service, #548, is Gratitude…

Quotes

(From: Carl Jung (1875 - 1961)
One looks back with appreciation to the brilliant teachers, but with gratitude to those who touched our human feeling. The curriculum is so much necessary raw material, but warmth is the vital element for the growing plant and for the soul of the child.

(From: Ann Frank, Diary of Ann Frank)
I want to go on living even after my death,
And therefore I am grateful to God
For giving this gift…
Of expressing all that is in me.

(From: Melody Beattie)
Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos to order, confusion to clarity. It can turn a meal into a feast, a house into a home, a stranger into a friend. Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today, and creates a vision for tomorrow.

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-91 Section-8)
To some individuals prayer is the calm expression of gratitude; to others, a group expression of praise, social devotions; sometimes it is the imitation of another's religion, while in true praying it is the sincere and trusting communication of the spiritual nature of the creature with the anywhere presence of the spirit of the Creator.

(From: Terry Lynn Taylor)
Gratitude is our most direct line to God and the angels. If we take the time, no matter how crazy and troubled we feel, we can find something to be thankful for.

(From: G. E. Lessing (1729 - 1781)
One single grateful thought raised to heaven is the most perfect prayer.

(From: Cicero (106 BC - 43 BC)
Gratitude is not only the greatest of virtues, but the parent of all others.

(From: Olfana - 5/23/04 – The North Idaho TeaM)
The awakening of the spirit can come in many ways. It can come through music; it can come through the appreciation of nature; it can come from an appreciation of art. Any upliftment of the spirit can draw the soul Godward. It is not necessary to sit in deep meditation to contact the divine. All appreciation of goodness, beauty, and truth sends the soul heavenward and allows the spirit to lift up from the density of your environment and allows the soul to communicate briefly with the spirit of truth, beauty, and goodness. So, as you engage in your daily tasks and daily requirements of living, you can always at every moment lift up your spirit and the spirits of others by paying attention to these moments of gratitude, of appreciation, of thanksgiving.

(From: Denis Waitley)
Happiness cannot be traveled to, owned, earned, worn or consumed. Happiness is the spiritual experience of living every minute with love, grace and gratitude.

(From: Marcel Proust (1871 - 1922)
Let us be grateful to people who make us happy: They are the charming gardeners who make our souls blossom.

(From: Celia Thaxter)
There shall be eternal summer in the grateful heart.

The Sermon
***********
People often use the terms---Thankfulness and Gratitude, or Thankful and Grateful, or Thankfully and Gratefully---interchangeably, as if they have exactly the same meaning.

Well… maybe they do, but I think that perhaps maybe they Don't have exactly the same meaning. Here's what I mean…

Thankfulness is pretty much always expressed in words, and words are usually adequate to convey it… as in, “Thank You!” or, “What a nice surprise!” or, “That was really Thoughtful!”

Gratitude on the other hand can often be unspoken… Sincere Gratitude can leave one speechless. When paying attention, you can see it in a person's eyes, observe it in their expressions, feel it in their emotions… witness it in their body language.

…as in that silent, “Oh Thank God!” or, “You are an answer to a prayer!” or, “How could you possibly have known?”

I usually have to think about saying “Thank You” even if only for a moment… sometimes it's, “Did I say Thank You?”

The expression of genuine Gratitude is an immediate response/reaction. It manifests without thought… it actually appears before thinking about saying “Thank You.” You couldn't hide it even if for some reason you wanted to… not without actually thinking about trying to hide it anyway. Gratitude is a sensation, a feeling, an emotion, an attitude… a consciousness of the participation of Divinity.

The next time you experience a deep sense of personal Gratitude welling up within you, observe it. Where did it come from?

The next time you experience a deep sense of Gratitude from another, observe It as well. Perhaps you will consider that the True Source of Gratitude is the Same, whether incoming or outgoing.

When I am just going about my daily routine without any specific Spiritual Purpose and I experience a moment of Gratitude, it feels to me like “God is knocking on my door.” When I consciously and purposefully share my day with God, that Doorway is always Open and there is a pervading “Attitude of Gratitude.”

The “Attitude of Gratitude” Feels Love, Embraces Goodness, Recognizes Beauty, and Discovers Truth.

Next time you feel like coping an attitude, let it be an Attitude of Gratitude.

Quotes
*******
(From: Socrates (469 BC - 399 BC), quoted by Plato, 'The Death of Socrates)
I do nothing but go about persuading you all, old and young alike, not to take thought for your persons or your properties, but and chiefly to care about the greatest improvement of the soul. I tell you that virtue is not given by money, but that from virtue comes money and every other good of man, public as well as private. This is my teaching, and if this is the doctrine which corrupts the youth, I am a mischievous person. '

(From: James F. Hind)
People want to know how much you care before they care how much you know.

(From: Katherine Mansfield (1888 - 1923)
Care no more for the opinions of others, for those voices. Do the hardest thing on earth for you. Act for yourself. Face the truth.

(From: The RSV Bible - Peter I 5:6-7)
Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that in due time he may exalt you. Cast all your anxieties on him, for he cares about you.

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-133 Section-2)
The loving care and consideration which a man is willing to bestow upon his wife and their children are the measure of that man's attainment of the higher levels of creative and spiritual self-consciousness.

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-84 Section-7)
Respect of the child for his parents arises, not in knowledge of the obligation implied in parental procreation, but naturally grows as a result of the care, training, and affection which are lovingly displayed in assisting the child to win the battle of life. The true parent is engaged in a continuous service-ministry which the wise child comes to recognize and appreciate.

(From: Trey Parker and Matt Stone)
Family isn't about whose blood you have. It's about who you care about.

(From: Wayne Dyer)
Love is the ability and willingness to allow those that you care for to be what they choose for themselves without any insistence that they satisfy you.

(From: Randy K. Milholland)
Why do we have to wait for special moments to say nice things or tell people we care about them?

(From: The New KJV Bible - Job 10:12 )
You have granted me life and favor, And Your care has preserved my spirit.

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-181 Section-1)
The peace of Jesus is, then, the peace and assurance of a son who fully believes that his career for time and eternity is safely and wholly in the care and keeping of an all-wise, all-loving, and all-powerful spirit Father. And this is, indeed, a peace which passes the understanding of mortal mind, but which can be enjoyed to the full by the believing human heart.

The Sermon
***********
God does not ask how much you control,

God does not ask how much you have,

God does not ask how much you know,

God does not ask how much you understand,

God does not ask how much you give,

What matters to God… and to others… and to Yourself,

Is How Much You Care!
