Greetings my Beloved Sisters and Brothers, and welcome once again to the Church that is Within.

In the 60's it was a word often used to describe a car, perhaps a wave, maybe even a song or work of art… if you were there then you undoubtedly will be able to remember other things that were just, “Totally…

(From: Carl G. Jung)

Observance of customs and laws can very easily be a cloak for a lie so subtle that our fellow human beings are unable to detect it. It may help us to escape all criticism, we may even be able to deceive ourselves in the belief of our obvious righteousness. But deep down, below the surface of the average man's conscience, he hears a voice whispering, "There is something not right," no matter how much his rightness is supported by public opinion or by the moral code.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-54 Section-1)
True liberty is the associate of genuine self-respect; false liberty is the consort of self-admiration. True liberty is the fruit of self-control; false liberty, the assumption of self-assertion. Self-control leads to altruistic service; self-admiration tends towards the exploitation of others for the selfish aggrandizement of such a mistaken individual as is willing to sacrifice righteous attainment for the sake of possessing unjust power over his fellow beings.

(From: Confucius (551 BC - 479 BC), The Confucian Analects)
The man who in view of gain thinks of righteousness; who in the view of danger is prepared to give up his life; and who does not forget an old agreement however far back it extends - such a man may be reckoned a complete man.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-150 Section-5)
…Jesus said: "You cannot buy salvation; you cannot earn righteousness. Salvation is the gift of God, and righteousness is the natural fruit of the spirit-born life of sonship in the kingdom. You are not to be saved because you live a righteous life; rather is it that you live a righteous life because you have already been saved, have recognized sonship as the gift of God and service in the kingdom as the supreme delight of life on earth.

(From: The RSV Bible - Matthew 5:6)
"Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-140 Section-10)
That evening while teaching in the house, for it had begun to rain, Jesus talked at great length, trying to show the twelve what they must be, not what they must do. They knew only a religion that imposed the doing of certain things as the means of attaining righteousness--salvation. But Jesus would reiterate, "In the kingdom you must be righteous in order to do the work." Many times did he repeat, "Be you therefore perfect, even as your Father in heaven is perfect." All the while was the Master explaining to his bewildered apostles that the salvation which he had come to bring to the world was to be had only by believing, by simple and sincere faith. Said Jesus: "John preached a baptism of repentance, sorrow for the old way of living. You are to proclaim the baptism of fellowship with God. Preach repentance to those who stand in need of such teaching, but to those already seeking sincere entrance to the kingdom, open the doors wide and bid them enter into the joyous fellowship of the sons of God." But it was a difficult task to persuade these Galilean fishermen that, in the kingdom, being righteous, by faith, must precede doing righteousness in the daily life of the mortals of earth.

(From: The ASB Bible - Isaiah 32:17)
And the work of righteousness will be peace, And the service of righteousness, quietness and confidence forever.

(From: Theodore Roosevelt (1858 - 1919)
If I must choose between righteousness and peace, I choose righteousness.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-39 Section-4)
There is no material reward for righteous living, but there is profound satisfaction--consciousness of achievement--and this transcends any conceivable material reward.

(From: John Foster Dulles)
Peace, no less than war, requires idealism and self-sacrifice and a righteous and dynamic faith.

(From: “Jesus” - The Urantia Book - Paper-140 Section-3)
“Discern the truth clearly; live the righteous life fearlessly; and so shall you be my apostles and my Father's ambassadors. You have heard it said: `If the blind lead the blind, they both shall fall into the pit.' If you would guide others into the kingdom, you must yourselves walk in the clear light of living truth.”

(From: Euripides (484 BC - 406 BC), Aegeus)
The company of just and righteous men is better than wealth and a rich estate.

(From: The ASB Bible - Psalm 85:10)
Loving kindness and truth have met together; Righteousness and peace have kissed each other.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-2 Section-7)
The religious challenge of this age is to those farseeing and forward-looking men and women of spiritual insight who will dare to construct a new and appealing philosophy of living out of the enlarged and exquisitely integrated modern concepts of cosmic truth, universe beauty, and divine goodness. Such a new and righteous vision of morality will attract all that is good in the mind of man and challenge that which is best in the human soul. Truth, beauty, and goodness are divine realities, and as man ascends the scale of spiritual living, these supreme qualities of the Eternal become increasingly co-ordinated and unified in God, who is love.

(From: Ham 9/19/95 – the Nashville TeaM)
Doubt not the effectiveness of individual righteousness. It is the most effective reality that you can impart/possess. Always is the seed of individual righteousness growing and multiplying in the world. Righteousness is an attractive force for you. The growth of your souls in righteousness itself is a potent attractor of good and repeller of evil.

(From: Anthony J. D'Angelo, The College Blue Book)
Transcend political correctness and strive for human righteousness.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-131 Section-3)
“A righteous soul is more to be desired than the sovereignty of all the earth.”

Dear God,
I do not at all question the reality of Life After Death… It is life Before death that gives me question. Show me Your Answers that I may grow in Maturity, Love and Compassion while I continue to tarry in This world.

(From: Church Within Easter Service Prayer of 2007)
Dear God,
Those who teach that You must be Feared, really don't Know You very well, Do they? And they who would knowingly Use Fear to Control and Manipulate the uninformed? Well, They just don't know You at All.

(From: Church Within Easter Service Prayer of 2008)
Dear God,
There are those who say I should fear You, but instead I choose to love You. There are those who say that Your Son died for our sins, but rather I choose to believe that he Lived so as to show us how to avoid sinning. There are those who teach that the most significant thing about Easter is that Jesus, Your Son, rose from the dead… but I choose to value the most Extraordinary thing about Easter as being that he showed us how All of Your Loving Children may one day do the same. Thank you for showing us “The Way, the Truth and the Life.”

Greetings my Beloved Sisters and Brothers, and welcome once again to the Church that is Within.

There is Gratitude, and there is Thankfulness… there is being Complimentary, and there is showing Approval. But then, there is genuine…

The topic of today's Sunday Service, #651, is Appreciation…

*******************************************
The Sermon
***********
Appreciation stimulates Appreciation which in turn gives cause for further Appreciation and greater Appreciation.

Appreciation is:

a recognition of Value,

an Increase in Value,
and…

the Highest form of Compliment.

Everyone Craves to be Appreciated.
Seldom is the Appreciation one gets, identical to the Appreciation that they crave.

Everyone Deserves to be Appreciated.
Quite often they Deserve more than they are currently Capable of receiving.

Quotes
*******
(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-56 Section-6)
On any level of existence God cannot exceed the conceptual capacity of the beings who live on such a level. Mortal man must, through the recognition of truth, the appreciation of beauty, and the worship of goodness, evolve the recognition of a God of love and then progress through ascending deity levels to the comprehension of the Supreme.

(From: Anne-Sophie Swetchine, The Writings of Madame Swetchine, 1869)
Providence has hidden a charm in difficult undertakings which is appreciated only by those who dare to grapple with them.

(From: Carl Jung (1875 - 1961)

One looks back with appreciation to the brilliant teachers, but with gratitude to those who touched our human feeling. The curriculum is so much necessary raw material, but warmth is the vital element for the growing plant and for the soul of the child.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-100 Section-1)
Give every developing child a chance to grow his own religious experience; do not force a ready-made adult experience upon him. Remember, year-by-year progress through an established educational regime does not necessarily mean intellectual progress, much less spiritual growth. Enlargement of vocabulary does not signify development of character. Growth is not truly indicated by mere products but rather by progress. Real educational growth is indicated by enhancement of ideals, increased appreciation of values, new meanings of values, and augmented loyalty to supreme values.

(From: Elizabeth Aston, The Exploits & Adventures of Miss Alethea Darcy)
It is a sadness of growing older that we lose our ardent appreciation of what is new and different and difficult.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-3 Section-4)
Finite appreciation of infinite qualities far transcends the logically limited capacities of the creature because of the fact that mortal man is made in the image of God--there lives within him a fragment of infinity. Therefore man's nearest and dearest approach to God is by and through love, for God is love.

(From: Voltaire (1694 - 1778)
Appreciation is a wonderful thing: It makes what is excellent in others belong to us as well.

(From: Christiane Northrup, M.D.)
Feeling grateful to or appreciative of someone or something in your life actually attracts more of the things that you appreciate and value into your life.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-132 Section-2)
An experience is good when it heightens the appreciation of beauty, augments the moral will, enhances the discernment of truth, enlarges the capacity to love and serve one's fellows, exalts the spiritual ideals, and unifies the supreme human motives of time with the eternal plans of the indwelling Adjuster, all of which lead directly to an increased desire to do the Father's will, thereby fostering the divine passion to find God and to be more like him.

(From: Grenville Kleiser)
There are fine things which you mean to do some day, under what you think will be more favorable circumstances. But the only time that is surely yours is the present, hence this is the time to speak the word of appreciation and sympathy, to do the generous deed, to forgive the fault of a thoughtless friend, to sacrifice self a little more for others. Today is the day in which to express your noblest qualities of mind and heart, to do at least one worthy thing which you have long postponed, and to use your God-given abilities for the enrichment of someone less fortunate. Today you can make your life - significant and worthwhile. The present is yours to do with as you will.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-100 Section-3)
Man cannot cause growth, but he can supply favorable conditions. Growth is always unconscious, be it physical, intellectual, or spiritual. Love thus grows; it cannot be created, manufactured, or purchased; it must grow. Evolution is a cosmic technique of growth. Social growth cannot be secured by legislation, and moral growth is not had by improved administration. Man may manufacture a machine, but its real value must be derived from human culture and personal appreciation. Man's sole contribution to growth is the mobilization of the total powers of his personality--living faith.

(From: Al Franken)
Mistakes are a part of being human. Appreciate your mistakes for what they are: precious life lessons that can only be learned the hard way. Unless it's a fatal mistake, which, at least, others can learn from.

(From: Margaret Cousins)
Appreciation can make a day, even change a life. Your willingness to put it into words is all that is necessary.

(From: Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803 - 1882)
To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends; to appreciate beauty; to find the best in others; to leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition; to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded.

(From: Thomas Hughes)
Blessed are they who have the gift of making friends, for it is one of God's best gifts. It involves many things, but above all, the power of going out of one's self, and appreciating whatever is noble and loving in another.

(From: William Dean Howells)
I know, indeed, of nothing more subtly satisfying and cheering than a knowledge of the real good will and appreciation of others. Such happiness does not come with money, nor does it flow from fine physical state. It cannot be brought. But it is the keenest joy, after all; and the toiler's truest and best reward.

(From: Barbra Streisand)
Imagine how boring life would be if we were all the same. My idea of a perfect world is one in which we appreciate each other's differences; one in which we are all equal but definitely not the same.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-111 Section-6)
The expansion of material knowledge permits a greater intellectual appreciation of the meanings of ideas and the values of ideals. A human being can find truth in his inner experience, but he needs a clear knowledge of facts to apply his personal discovery of truth to the ruthlessly practical demands of everyday life.

(From: Dale Carnegie)
You have it easily in your power to increase the sum total of this world's happiness now. How? By giving a few words of sincere appreciation to someone who is lonely or is discouraged. Perhaps you will forget tomorrow the kind words you say today, but the recipient may cherish them over a lifetime.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-196 Section-0)
Jesus does not require his disciples to believe in him but rather to believe with him, believe in the reality of the love of God and in full confidence accept the security of the assurance of sonship with the heavenly Father. The Master desires that all his followers should fully share his transcendent faith. Jesus most touchingly challenged his followers, not only to believe what he believed, but also to believe as he believed.

(From: Leo Tolstoy (1828 - 1910)

I know that most men, including those at ease with problems of the greatest complexity, can seldom accept even the simplest and most obvious truth if it be such as would oblige them to admit the falsity of conclusions which they have delighted in explaining to colleagues, which they have proudly taught to others, and which they have woven, thread by thread, into the fabric of their lives.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-70 Section-2)
Man will never accept peace as a normal mode of living until he has been thoroughly and repeatedly convinced that peace is best for his material welfare,

(From: The ASB Bible - Romans 12:2)
And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.

(From: Bertrand Russell (1872 - 1970)
Do not fear to be eccentric in opinion, for every opinion now accepted was once eccentric.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-101 Section-8)
Belief has attained the level of faith when it motivates life and shapes the mode of living. The acceptance of a teaching as true is not faith; that is mere belief. Neither is certainty nor conviction faith. A state of mind attains to faith levels only when it actually dominates the mode of living. Faith is a living attribute of genuine personal religious experience.

(From: Arthur Rubinstein (1886 - 1982)
Of course there is no formula for success except perhaps an unconditional acceptance of life and what it brings.

(From: Carl Jung (1875 - 1961)
We cannot change anything unless we accept it. Condemnation does not liberate, it oppresses.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-149 Section-5)
"Much of man's sorrow is born of the disappointment of his ambitions and the wounding of his pride. Although men owe a duty to themselves to make the best of their lives on earth, having thus sincerely exerted themselves, they should cheerfully accept their lot and exercise ingenuity in making the most of that which has fallen to their hands. All too many of man's troubles take origin in the fear soil of his own natural heart.

(From: Napoleon Hill)
When defeat comes, accept it as a signal that your plans are not sound, rebuild those plans, and set sail once more toward your coveted goal.

(From: Henry Miller (1891 - 1980)
Living apart and at peace with myself, I came to realize more vividly the meaning of the doctrine of acceptance. To refrain from giving advice, to refrain from meddling in the affairs of others, to refrain, even though the motives be the highest, from tampering with another's way of life - so simple, yet so difficult for an active spirit.

(From: Mahatma Gandhi (1869 - 1948)
The only tyrant I accept in this world is the still voice within.

(From: Joseph Chilton Pearce)
We must accept that this creative pulse within us is God's creative pulse itself.

(From: Bertrand Russell (1872 - 1970)
If a man is offered a fact which goes against his instincts, he will scrutinize it closely, and unless the evidence is overwhelming, he will refuse to believe it. If, on the other hand, he is offered something which affords a reason for acting in accordance to his instincts, he will accept it even on the slightest evidence.

(From: Steve Pavlina, How to Win an Argument, 08-31-05)
If someone offers you a gift, and you decline to accept it, the other person still owns that gift. The same is true of insults and verbal attacks.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-150 Section-5)
"Salvation is the gift of the Father and is revealed by his Sons. Acceptance by faith on your part makes you a partaker of the divine nature, a son or a daughter of God. By faith you are justified; by faith are you saved; and by this same faith are you eternally advanced in the way of progressive and divine perfection.

(From: Rabindranath Tagore (1861 - 1941)
Love's Gift cannot be given, it waits to be accepted.

(From: Peter McWilliams, Life 101)
Acceptance is not a state of passivity or inaction. I am not saying you can't change the world, right wrongs, or replace evil with good. Acceptance is, in fact, the first step to successful action. If you don't fully accept a situation precisely the way it is, you will have difficulty changing it. Moreover, if you don't fully accept the situation, you will never really know if the situation should be changed.

(From: Henry Miller (1891 - 1980), The Wisdom of the Heart)
Every man has his own destiny: the only imperative is to follow it, to accept it, no matter where it leads him.

*******************************************
The Sermon
***********
To Allow something is to let it happen… to not stand in it's way.
Allowing can be passive, submissive, unintentional.

To Accept something one must Decide upon it… Select it… make it their Choice.
Acceptance is not accidental or involuntary… it is Deliberate, Premeditated and Mindful.

Accept Goodness…
Accept Growth…
Accept Love…
Accept God's Will into your Life.

*******************************************
The Prayer
**********
Dear God,
I choose to accept Your guidance. Help me to follow it wisely.
