A Sunday school teacher was discussing the Ten Commandments with her five and six year olds.
After explaining the commandment to 'honour' thy Father and thy Mother, she asked, 'Is there a commandment that teaches us how to treat our brothers and sisters?'
Without missing a beat one little boy (the oldest of a family) answered, 'Thou shall not kill.'

Greetings my Beloved Sisters and Brothers, and welcome once again to the Church that is Within.

Well, Happy Easter everyone!

The topic of today's Easter Sunday Service, #702, is (wouldn't you know it), Resurrection…

********************************************
Quotes

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-190 Section-0)
All this power which is inherent in Jesus--the endowment of life--and which enabled him to rise from the dead, is the very gift of eternal life which he bestows upon kingdom believers, and which even now makes certain their resurrection from the bonds of natural death.

*******************************************
The Sermon
***********
This is the day, Easter Sunday, that those who believe in the Divinity of Jesus Celebrate his Resurrection from his mortal death on the cross. There are many different perceptions as to the true significance of this occurrence, perhaps even as many as there are believers… who's to say with any genuine certainty? Even my own personal perception has altered numerous times over the 56 years of my life.

Now as some of you may have noticed over the years, I don't like to do repeats of past Sunday Services, and thinking of a new topic for the Easter Service presents a bit of a problem in that area, so at first I thought… just give the links to all our past Easter services (no I wouldn't really, it was just a lazy thought ;-). So then I got to thinking that, the whole reason Jesus did all this was for Our personal resurrections, and rather than wait 'till death for the Big one, why not mention personal resurrections that we each can do here on earth while we are still alive. What better Easter Gift could a person give to Jesus after all???

So how about a resurrection of:

Ideals,
Compassion or,
Love?

What about a resurrection of:

Personal Dreams or,
Service Projects or,
Relationships?

Maybe even a resurrection of:

Hope,
Attitude,
Principles or even,
Faith?

Now I am sure that hardly any of you reading this actually have any need for a personal resurrection of any of these things, or if so maybe only one… or perhaps two or three at most. But hey… I thought I'd mention them all just in case. I've needed resurrections in each of them at one time or another in my life, and I remember at least one instance where I need a resurrection in all of them at the same time. Only you can be the judge of your own needs.

The ball's in your court…

One day a little girl was sitting and watching her mother do the dishes at the kitchen sink. She suddenly noticed that her mother had several strands of white hair sticking out in contrast on her brunette head.
She looked at her mother and inquisitively asked, 'Why are some of your hairs white, Mum?'
Her mother replied, 'Well, every time that you do something wrong and make me cry or unhappy, one of my hairs turns white.'
The little girl thought about this revelation for a while and then said, 'Mummy, how come ALL of grandma's hairs are white?'

Greetings my Beloved Sisters and Brothers, and welcome once again to the Church that is Within.

Jesus regularly ministered to the sick, the afflicted, the poor and the downtrodden. He gave Hope to the Hopeless and comfort to the oppressed… a true Champion of social service he was. Why is it that some of his professed followers so disdain these things?

The topic of today's Sunday Service, #702, is “To Minister and Serve…

The Sermon

To Minister to others is to Serve them.
To Serve others is to Minister to their needs.

As…

A Parent to a Child…
A Spouse to a Spouse…
A Friend to a Friend…
A Child of God to another Child of God.

With…

A smile,
A shoulder,
An ear,
A hand…

In…

Understanding,
Consideration,
Compassion,
Brotherhood.

For…

Them,
God,
You,
All.

(From:
Woodrow Wilson (1856 - 1924)

There is no higher religion than human service. To work for the common good is the greatest creed.

(From: Seneca (5 BC - 65 AD)
Be silent as to services you have rendered, but speak of favours you have received.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-147 Section-8)
"`Then shall your light break forth as the morning while your health springs forth speedily. Your righteousness shall go before you while the glory of the Lord shall be your rear guard. Then will you call upon the Lord, and he shall answer; you will cry out, and he shall say--Here am I. And all this he will do if you refrain from oppression, condemnation, and vanity. The Father rather desires that you draw out your heart to the hungry, and that you minister to the afflicted souls; then shall your light shine in obscurity, and even your darkness shall be as the noonday. Then shall the Lord guide you continually, satisfying your soul and renewing your strength. You shall become like a watered garden, like a spring whose waters fail not. And they who do these things shall restore the wasted glories; they shall raise up the foundations of many generations; they shall be called the rebuilders of broken walls, the restorers of safe paths in which to dwell.'"

(From: Og Mandino (1923 - 1996)
Always render more and better service than is expected of you, no matter what your task may be.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-133 Section-4)
"Minister your hospitality as one who entertains the children of the Most High. Elevate the drudgery of your daily toil to the high levels of a fine art through the increasing realization that you minister to God in the persons whom he indwells by his spirit which has descended to live within the hearts of men, thereby seeking to transform their minds and lead their souls to the knowledge of the Paradise Father of all these bestowed gifts of the divine spirit."

(From: The ASB Bible - Galatians 5:22-23)
the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-193 Section-2)
Salvation is the free gift of God, but those who are born of the spirit will immediately begin to show forth the fruits of the spirit in loving service to their fellow creatures. And the fruits of the divine spirit which are yielded in the lives of spirit-born and God-knowing mortals are: loving service, unselfish devotion, courageous loyalty, sincere fairness, enlightened honesty, undying hope, confiding trust, merciful ministry, unfailing goodness, forgiving tolerance, and enduring peace.

(From: Hadewijch of Antwerp)
May your service of love a beautiful thing; want nothing else, fear nothing else and let love be free to become what love truly is.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-178 Section-1)
Let all mankind benefit from the overflow of your loving spiritual ministry, enlightening intellectual communion, and uplifting social service

(From: Sir Wilfred T. Grenfell)
The service we render to others is really the rent we pay for our room on this earth. It is obvious that man is himself a traveler; that the purpose of this world is not "to have and to hold" but "to give and serve." There can be no other meaning.

(From: The ASB Bible - Matthew 25:42-45)
for I was hungry, and you gave Me nothing to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave Me nothing to drink; I was a stranger, and you did not invite Me in; naked, and you did not clothe Me; sick, and in prison, and you did not visit Me.'
"Then they themselves also will answer, "Lord, when did we see You hungry, or thirsty, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not take care of You?'
"Then He will answer them, "Truly I say to you, to the extent that you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to Me.'

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-176 Section-3)
And remember that, inasmuch as you minister to one of the least of my brethren, you have done this service to me.

(From: Thomas Fuller (1608 - 1661)
An ounce of cheerfulness is worth a pound of sadness to serve God with.

(From: “Jesus” - The Urantia Book - Paper-140 Section-1)
"Whosoever would become great in my Father's kingdom shall become a minister to all; and whosoever would be first among you, let him become the server of his brethren. But when you are once truly received as citizens in the heavenly kingdom, you are no longer servants but sons, sons of the living God. And so shall this kingdom progress in the world until it shall break down every barrier and bring all men to know my Father and believe in the saving truth which I have come to declare.

(From: Robert Collier)
The great thing is the start - to see an opportunity for service, and to start doing it, even though in the beginning you serve but a single customer - and him for nothing.

Quotes
*******
(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-155 Section-6)
When you once begin to find God in your soul, presently you will begin to discover him in other men's souls and eventually in all the creatures and creations of a mighty universe. But what chance does the Father have to appear as a God of supreme loyalties and divine ideals in the souls of men who give little or no time to the thoughtful contemplation of such eternal realities? While the mind is not the seat of the spiritual nature, it is indeed the gateway thereto.

(From: Berca - 1/22/98– the Arcadia CA TeaM)
From your soul does your true nature spring. The soul is the spring of eternal life; become a spigot to dispense this water of eternal life freely amongst mankind. The soul is celestial fragrance; become a rose that you may attract others by your scent. The soul is the gateway to heaven; open it up that all may enter. The soul is evidence that God lives within; become a mirror of living truth that all may see who they truly are.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-152 Section-6)
“You see, my children, the appeal to human feelings is transitory and utterly disappointing; the exclusive appeal to the intellect of man is likewise empty and barren; it is only by making your appeal to the spirit which lives within the human mind that you can hope to achieve lasting success and accomplish those marvelous transformations of human character that are presently shown in the abundant yielding of the genuine fruits of the spirit in the daily lives of all who are thus delivered from the darkness of doubt by the birth of the spirit into the light of faith — the kingdom of heaven.”
Jesus taught the appeal to the emotions as the technique of arresting and focusing the intellectual attention. He designated the mind thus aroused and quickened as the gateway to the soul, where there resides that spiritual nature of man which must recognize truth and respond to the spiritual appeal of the gospel in order to afford the permanent results of true character transformations.

(From: Eugene Ionesco (1909 - 1994), Decouvertes (1969)
Explanation separates us from astonishment, which is the only gateway to the incomprehensible.

(From: J. R. R. Tolkien (1892 - 1973)
Still round the corner there may wait,
A new road or a secret gate.

(From: Eknath Easwaran)
The Sufis advise us to speak only after our words have managed to pass through three gates. At the first gate we ask ourselves, Are these words true? If so, we let them pass on; if not, back they go. At the second gate we ask, Are they necessary? At the last gate we ask, Are they kind?

(From: Klemens Von Metternich)
It is useless to close the gates against ideas; they overlap them.

(From: Ham 2/29/2004 – the Nashville TeaM)
Faith is the gateway by which man feels himself to be entering into a greater and more meaningful expanded existence. Faith is the hand which receives the bread of life. Faith is the mouth by which you imbibe spiritual water and the bread of truth.

(From: Marcus Terentius Varro (116 BC - 27 BC)
The longest part of the journey is said to be the passing of the gate.

(From: The Book of Runes - #21 - Gateway / Place Of Non-Action (Thurisaz))
Visualize yourself standing before a gateway on a hilltop. Your entire life lies out behind you and below. Before you step through, pause and review the past: the learning and the joys, the victories and the sorrows---everything it took to bring you here. Observe it all, bless it all, release it all. For in letting go of the past, you reclaim your power.

Step through the gateway now.

*******************************************
The Sermon
***********
Ah… life's Gateways, they are many and varied.

“Should I pass through or should I not?”

Gateways can lead to uncertainty…
Gateways may lead to struggle…
Gateways might require effort.

Do I want that right now?

At the same time…

Gateways lead to opportunity.
Gateways lead to progress
Gateways lead to growth.

Do I need that right now?

Is it a Gateway that is always present… like a well to draw from whenever needed?
Is it a Gateway that I may return to and use later if I pass it by?
Is it a Gateway that will only open to me in this moment and never again?

If I go in, can I come back out?
If I go in, will I Want to come back out?

I cannot pass through your Gateways… you cannot pass through mine.
Each must use the individual and unique Gateways provided them… each must pass through unaccompanied, there is no other way through.

“But I do not want to be alone!”

And still I go through the Gate…

“I Know This Place!”
“It is the Playground!”
“And You are all here Too!”

“Weren't you just back there on the other side of that Gateway???”

“What do you Mean, What Gateway?” “Why, That one Right over…”

“Oh, Never mind… let's just play.”

*******************************************
The Prayer
**********
Dear God,
Though I must go through many things alone, I know that I am never alone because You are always with me.

You ALL are Within the Infinitely Loving Embrace of our Universal
Parent,

The Creator's Infinite Love to all of You,

"Some cause happiness wherever they go; others, whenever they go."
(Oscar Wilde )

********************************************
Welcome by: Pastor Daniel
************************
Greetings my Beloved Sisters and Brothers, and welcome once again to the Church that is Within.

It is what we all seek…
You cannot buy it though many have tried and failed…

The topic of today's Sunday Service, #705, is True Happiness…

*******************************************
The Sermon
***********
Has anyone ever tried to make you happy against your will? How'd that work out for them?
Have you ever tried it on someone else? Did you get different results?

I guess you can't force Happiness upon another anymore than you can force it on yourself.

Why is it so instinctive for us to expect that another, or others can supply our Happiness, or we theirs? Perhaps it is because many of our most memorable experiences of genuine Happiness are those we have shared with others. Do you think?? But no one else can provide all of your Happiness for you now, Can they? No of course not… how unrealistic an expectation. You must as well provide for your own, or am I mistaken?

Can you experience True Happiness while you are by yourself? Can you not? How about while listening to music… or appreciating art… or creating something? Anything that you allow yourself to enjoy can facilitate your Happiness. Happiness is such a rare and precious thing… all opportunities for it should be welcomed.

True Happiness comes from Within. Happiness is a living thing. Happiness is a loving thing.

It must be allowed… it must be accepted… it must be embraced… it must be valued.
You cannot create it, but you Can create opportunities for it… for yourself and for others.

You can avoid Happiness, you can reject Happiness, you can prevent Happiness. But why Would you?

God is the True Source of Happiness. If you have experienced Happiness, you have experienced God… knowingly or not… God within Yourself and God within Others.

If Happiness were a Choice, how would you choose?

Happiness Is a Choice… so Now what?

(From:
C. S. Lewis (1898 - 1963)
God cannot give us a happiness and peace apart from Himself, because it is not there. There is no such thing.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-140 Section-5)
The poor in spirit seek for goals of spiritual wealth — for God. And such seekers after truth do not have to wait for rewards in a distant future; they are rewarded now. They find the kingdom of heaven within their own hearts, and they experience such happiness now.

(From: Bertrand Russell (1872 - 1970)
If there were in the world today any large number of people who desired their own happiness more than they desired the unhappiness of others, we could have paradise in a few years.

(From: Dr. Smiley Blanton)
The truth is that all of us attain the greatest success and happiness possible in this life whenever we use our native capacities to their greatest extent.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-48 Section-7)
Effort does not always produce joy, but there is no happiness without intelligent

Happiness is not achieved by the conscious pursuit of happiness; it is generally the by-product of other activities.

(From: Dale Carnegie)
Many people think that if they were only in some other place, or had some other job, they would be happy. Well, that is doubtful. So get as much happiness out of what you are doing as you can and don't put off being happy until some future date.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-140 Section-4)
Happiness is little dependent on environment, though pleasing surroundings may greatly contribute thereto.

(From: C. P. Snow (1905 - 1980)
The pursuit of happiness is a most ridiculous phrase; if you pursue happiness you'll never find it.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-111 Section-4)
Happiness and joy take origin in the inner life. You cannot experience real joy all by yourself. A solitary life is fatal to happiness. Even families and nations will enjoy life more if they share it with others.

(From: Buddha (563 BC - 483 BC)
Thousands of candles can be lighted from a single candle, and the life of the candle will not be shortened. Happiness never decreases by being shared.

Many persons have a wrong idea of what constitutes true happiness. It is not attained through self-gratification but through fidelity to a worthy purpose.

(From: Alexander Humboldt (1769 - 1859)
I am more and more convinced that our happiness or unhappiness depends more on the way we meet the events of life than on the nature of those events themselves.

(From: Victor Hugo (1802 - 1885), Les Miserables, 1862)
Life's greatest happiness is to be convinced we are loved.

(From: “Jesus” - The Urantia Book - Paper-159 Section-3)
When my children once become self-conscious of the assurance of the divine presence, such a faith will expand the mind, ennoble the soul, reinforce the personality, augment the happiness, deepen the spirit perception, and enhance the power to love and be loved.
