Greetings my Beloved Sisters and Brothers, and welcome once again to the Church that is Within.

Today's Topic, Quotes, Sermon and Prayer are a part of this long awaited Sunday Service by our beloved newest Church Within Minister, Rick Giles. I would consider it applicable to people of all Faiths… certainly to mine.

Enjoy,
Pastor Daniel

The topic of today's Sunday Service, #511, is Essence and Expression …

Quotes
*******
(From: Matthew 7:20)
Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.

(From: Galatians 5:22)
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,

(From: Philippians 4:7)
And the peace of God, which passes all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

(From: The Urantia Book P.1096)
Jesus portrayed the profound surety of the God-knowing mortal when he said: "To a God-knowing kingdom believer, what does it matter if all things earthly crash?" Temporal securities are vulnerable, but spiritual sureties are impregnable. When the flood tides of human adversity, selfishness, cruelty, hate, malice, and jealousy beat about the mortal soul, you may rest in the assurance that there is one inner bastion, the citadel of the spirit, which is absolutely unassailable; at least this is true of every human being who has dedicated the keeping of his soul to the indwelling spirit of the eternal God.

(From: the Sutta Nipata)
This a man should do who knows what is good for him,
Who understands the meaning of the Place of Peace (Nirvana)…
May all be happy and safe!
May all beings gain inner joy-
All living beings whatever
Without exception, weak or strong,
Whether long or high
Middling or small, subtle or gross,
Seen or unseen,
Dwelling far or near,
Born or yet unborn-
May all beings gain inner joy.

(From: Elyon 07/30/06 - North Idaho TeaM)
To prune a tree changes its appearance and it does foster its development, but it is the life within the limbs that creates the growth. It may grow shapelessly; it may grow in beautiful form by your external manipulations, but it lives from within first. All your actions come from within, and all that happens about you from outside is only shaping. Be ever ready to be assisted and guided, but primarily and foremost be steadfast in that internal link to the perfect one, to the omniscient and all-loving God.

*******************************************
The Sermon
***********
There is no greater satisfaction to the human heart than an experience of God. A direct interface with God is so profound that descriptions and explanations pale in comparison. People draw together in fellowship and mutual respect recognizing the Holy One we have in common.
It is the surety of divine communion which yields an assurance from which all adversity is managed, a peace which passes all understanding.

Joy, peace, love, and faith are spiritual essences which emerge out of that divine embrace and are source points for everyday expressions. Joy and peace, for example, show through you to others in a wide range of expressions, from happiness and laughter to calmness and serenity. Love is revealed through kindness, friendliness, concern, and mercy. Faith is expressed in hope, trust, belief, and stability. When you become familiar with your essences your expressions naturally reveal these deeper states of being. Conversely working on your expressions, by changing behavior or habits, fosters the strength of these essences. It works both ways. As variable as those expressions may be your fellows sense the deeper state of your being. It is a soul recognition which is communicated through mind, emotions, and body.

Expressing the essence of being is how we are known by our fruit, the fruit of the spirit. This is the firm footing of a spiritual stance. Such orientation lessens prejudices, judgments, and fear. Essences are one in quality, while expressions are multitudinous variations of that one quality.
They are the quantification of the one quality derived from the experience of God.

*******************************************
The Prayer
**********
Dear God,
Prune my branches, shape my expressions, that the vine may grow strong in essential quality, and yield the abundant fruit of your spirit within me.
So be it.

The Creator's Infinite Love to all of You,
Minister Rick Giles

A very elderly gentleman, (mid nineties) very well dressed, hair well groomed, great looking suit, flower in his lapel smelling slightly of a good after shave, presenting a well looked-after image, walks into an upscale cocktail lounge. Seated at the bar is an elderly looking lady, in her mid-eighties.

The gentleman walks over, sits alongside of her, orders a drink, takes a sip, turns to her and says, "So tell me, do I come here often?"

The topic of today's Sunday Service, #512, is: “Change and Adjustment…”

********************************************
Quotes
*******
(From: Anna Jameson)
What we truly and earnestly aspire to be, that in some sense, we are. The mere aspiration, by changing the frame of the mind, for the moment realizes itself.

(From: William James (1842 - 1910)
Human beings, by changing the inner attitudes of their minds, can change the outer aspects of their lives.

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-180 Section-5)
Love, unselfishness, must undergo a constant and living readaptative interpretation of relationships in accordance with the leading of the Spirit of Truth. Love must thereby grasp the ever-changing and enlarging concepts of the highest cosmic good of the individual who is loved. And then love goes on to strike this same attitude concerning all other individuals who could possibly be influenced by the growing and living relationship of one spirit-led mortal's love for other citizens of the universe. And this entire living adaptation of love must be effected in the light of both the environment of present evil and the eternal goal of the perfection of divine destiny.

(From: Aldous Huxley (1894 - 1963)
I wanted to change the world. But I have found that the only thing one can be sure of changing is oneself.

(From: Peter McWilliams, Life 101)
Acceptance is not a state of passivity or inaction. I am not saying you can't change the world, right wrongs, or replace evil with good. Acceptance is, in fact, the first step to successful action. If you don't fully accept a situation precisely the way it is, you will have difficulty changing it. Moreover, if you don't fully accept the situation, you will never really know if the situation should be changed.

*******************************************
The Sermon
***********
If there were no longer taxes… If there was no longer death… Still would there remain that ever-present Core Inevitability. And That, would be Change. Not only inevitable, Change is Invaluable. Without Change there is no Growth, and without Growth there is, in essence, no Life. Living things must grow, and growing things must change (irrespective of how slowly or quickly change may happen).

Sometimes Change gets a bad rap… like when it is rather disrespectfully directed outward at others, rather than focused inward in self-respect.

Change is not about artificially changing our true inner selves in an effort to suit others, nor is it about the futile and fruitless attempt at artificially trying to change Others to suit ourselves. How many relationships/friendships are damaged or destroyed by the, “My life will be better when You change _________.” viewpoint? Heck! I have a difficult enough time making personal Changes to suit Myself muchless to suit Others. Is it any easier for you?

Personal Adjustments on the other hand help to nourish relationships… as long as they are voluntary and reciprocal.

Adjustments to our Perceptions? …without a doubt.
Adjustments to our Perspectives? …sure, sometimes.
Adjustments to our Paradigm? …rarely, but not outside of the realm of possibility.

Change Happens.

Adjustments are a Choice.

********************************************
Quotes
*******
(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-196 Section-3)
Personal, spiritual religious experience is an efficient solvent for most mortal difficulties; it is an effective sorter, evaluator, and adjuster of all human problems. Religion does not remove or destroy human troubles, but it does dissolve, absorb, illuminate, and transcend them. True religion unifies the personality for effective adjustment to all mortal requirements.

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-160 Section-4)
Success may generate courage and promote confidence, but wisdom comes only from the experiences of adjustment to the results of one's failures. Men who prefer optimistic illusions to reality can never become wise. Only those who face facts and adjust them to ideals can achieve wisdom.

(From: Martha Beck)
Any transition serious enough to alter your definition of self will require not just small adjustments in your way of living and thinking but a full-on metamorphosis.

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-81 Section-6)
Time is essential to all types of human adjustment--physical, social, or economic. Only moral and spiritual adjustments can be made on the spur of the moment, and even these require the passing of time for the full outworking of their material and social repercussions.

(From: Joseph Chilton Pearce)
We are shaped by each other. We adjust not to the reality of a world, but to the reality of other thinkers.

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-156 Section-5)
As you grow older in years and more experienced in the affairs of the kingdom, are you becoming more tactful in dealing with troublesome mortals and more tolerant in living with stubborn associates? Tact is the fulcrum of social leverage, and tolerance is the earmark of a great soul. If you possess these rare and charming gifts, as the days pass you will become more alert and expert in your worthy efforts to avoid all unnecessary social misunderstandings. Such wise souls are able to avoid much of the trouble which is certain to be the portion of all who suffer from lack of emotional adjustment, those who refuse to grow up, and those who refuse to grow old gracefully.

(From: Bertha Calloway)
We cannot direct the wind, but we can adjust the sails.

*******************************************
The Prayer
**********
Dear God,
Help me to make continual adjustments so that change is less unexpected and stressful.

You ALL are Within the Infinitely Loving Embrace of our Universal
Parent,

The Creator's Infinite Love to all of You,

Humor of the Week
*****************
Sitting by the window of her convent, Sister Barbara opened a letter from home one evening. Inside the letter was a $100 bill her parents had sent. Sister Barbara smiled at the gesture. As she read the letter by the window, she noticed a shabbily dressed stranger leaning against the lamp post below.

Quickly, she wrote, "Don't despair” on a piece of paper, and signed it, “Sister Barbara". She
wrapped the $100 bill in it, got the man's attention and tossed it out the window to him. The stranger picked it up, and with a puzzled expression and a tip of his hat, went off down the street.

The next day, Sister Barbara was told that a man was at her door, insisting on seeing her. She went down, and found the stranger waiting. Without a word, he handed her a huge wad of $100 bills.

"What's this?" she asked.

"That's the $8,000 you have coming, Sister," he replied. 'Don't Despair' paid 80-to-1."

Greetings my Beloved Sisters and Brothers, and welcome once again to the Church that is Within.

Well… I've been picking Peaches, Pears, Blackberries, Golden Raspberries and Blueberries this past week here at the Light and Life Sanctuary-Fruits of the Spirit Gardens… so when Minister Jill surprised me with this week's Sunday Service, I found her Topic to be Quite Appropriate for me (in more ways than one ;-)…

The topic of today's Sunday Service, #513, is God Provides.

*******************************************
The Sermon
***********

Good morning, all. It's a beautiful, sunny morning here in North Idaho. It has inspired morning meditation for me, and I began to muse on what message God might like me to share with all my brothers and sisters, IF I were to do the Sunday Service this week. Well… my thoughts went in many directions, and I began to see that I was using my “intellectual” instead of my “spiritual” guidance. Been there, done that? After an hour I still didn't feel certain of the message, but I received the “Angel Bump” as Daniel and I call it, to go ahead and turn on the computer and let the guidance begin to focus. As you know, our on-line Sunday Service has a standard format. It starts with “Humor of the Week”. OK, I'll go look for something humorous and maybe that will clarify the message. Well, it did. And it wasn't Any of the ideas that had been flowing through my conscious thoughts! Naturally. God works in mysterious ways to provide answers in our lives, doesn't He.

How does it happen? Is it perhaps that He IS ever-present in our lives, whether we are aware or not?

And maybe, when He provides for our “desperate need” when we haven't consciously turned to Him to provide, we call it “luck”? “Man, was That ever a stroke of luck!” one might exclaim when the answer appears “out of no where”.

Or maybe, when He provides for our “desperate need” that we have offered up to Him in prayer, saying, “Here's my problem. Your Will be done, Father,” it is really Faith, and not Luck, at all, when the solution appears “out of the Blue”? Blue… Heaven. Hmmm?

Luck or Faith? For those who have yet to develop a personal relationship with God, it is called Luck. For those who have a personal relationship with their Father in Heaven, it is called Faith.
To Our Father, I think it matters not, what we call it. He sees our needs, and He provides… but here's the kicker… He provides not only for the material need, but the spiritual need of an opportunity to achieve higher consciousness and new perceptions that are inherent in the problem. To me, that is the Ultimate Gift: an opportunity to see through God's eyes, instead of my fearful human perceptions, what the problem truly represents in my life's quest for higher and higher God consciousness.

For me, the most wondrous aspect of His answer to a problem is that it Always comes from a source we never anticipated, and it Always represents someone being given the Gift of an opportunity to give, in order for another to be given the Gift of allowing himself or herself to receive. And I keep discovering over, and over, and over… the problem is not really about the material need, but rather, it is about the Opportunity for spiritual growth.

There are some sayings I have learned that provide inspiration for me whenever I am wrestling with a problem. They make me shift my consciousness to that higher spiritual consciousness level. I ask myself, “What is it You Really want me to see and understand from having this problem, God?” Maybe these simple sayings will challenge you to do the same. What do they Really mean?

Humor of the Week
*****************
Recently, I was diagnosed with A. A. A. D. D. - Age Activated Attention Deficit Disorder. This is how it manifests:

I decide to water my garden.

. As I turn on the hose in the driveway, I look over at my car and decide my car needs washing.

. As I start toward the garage, I notice that there is mail on the porch table that I brought up from the mail box earlier.

. I decide to go through the mail before I wash the car.

. I lay my car keys down on the table, put the junk mail in the garbage can under the table, and notice that the can is full.

. So, I decide to put the bills back on the table and take out the garbage first.

. But then I think, since I'm going to be near the mailbox when I take out the garbage anyway, I may as well pay the bills first. I take my check book off the table, and see that there is only 1 check left.

. My extra checks are in my desk in the study, so I go inside the house to my desk where I find the can of Coke that I had been drinking.

. I'm going to look for my checks, but first I need to push the Coke aside so that I don't accidentally knock it over I see that the Coke is getting warm, and I decide I should put it in the refrigerator to keep it cold.

. As I head toward the kitchen with the Coke, a vase of flowers on the counter catches my eye--they need to be watered.

. I set the Coke down on the counter, and I discover my reading glasses that I've been searching for all morning.

. I decide I better put them back on my desk, but first I'm going to water the flowers.

. I set the glasses back down on the counter, fill a container with water and suddenly I spot the TV remote. Someone left it on the kitchen table.

. I realize that tonight when we go to watch TV, I will be looking for the remote, but I won't remember that it's on the kitchen table, so I decide to put it back in the den where it belongs, but first I'll water
the flowers.

. I pour some water in the flowers, but quite a bit of it spills on the floor.

. So, I set the remote back down on the table, get some towels and wipe up the spill.

. Then, I head down the hall trying to remember what I was planning to do.

. At the end of the day:

*          the car isn't washed

*          the bills aren't paid

*          there is a warm can of Coke sitting on the counter

*          the flowers don't have enough water,

*          there is still only 1 check in my check book,

*          I can't find the remote,

*          I can't find my glasses,

*          and I don't remember what I did with the car keys.

. Then, when I try to figure out why nothing got done today, I'm really baffled because I know I was busy all day long, and I'm really tired.

. I realize this is a serious problem, and I'll try to get some help for it, but first I'll check my e-mail.

. Do me a favor, will you? Forward this message to everyone you know, because I don't remember to whom it has been sent.

Don't laugh -- if this isn't you yet, your day is coming!!

Growing older is mandatory.  Growing up is optional.  Laughing at Yourself is therapeutic.

The topic of today's Sunday Service, #514, is Fearfulness…

*******************************************
The Sermon
***********
It has been said that, “Ignorance breeds Fear.”

Fear in itself has value in that it may alert us to imminent danger and stimulate us to use our acquired knowledge and wisdom to take action and avert the danger. With knowledge and wisdom, fear may be used as a valuable survival tool.

I would suggest rather that Ignorance is a breeding ground for Fearfulness.

The state of Fearfulness often causes inaction and can be paralyzing to the unaware. Ignorance and Fearfulness allow one to more easily be controlled and manipulated by outside influences. Truly sad it is when those “outside influences” are governments and churches… and sadder yet when they knowingly Implant fearfulness and encourage ignorance rather than dispel them.

The antidote to ignorance is the continual acquiring of Knowledge.

Knowledge can supplant Fear with Wariness and greater knowledge can supercede Wariness with Alertness. When you fully understand something, it is far less likely that you will have reason to fear it. There is no such thing as too much knowledge… there is ever only enough for this present moment in time. And yet… even Knowledge by itself is not enough to drive out all fears…

Truly… it is the Experiential attainment of Wisdom through applied Knowledge that fosters the Discernment, Intuition and Awareness that are Far more effective at neutralizing fear than is Knowledge alone. One can study to attain Knowledge, but Wisdom must indeed be earned and secured through continual experience.

In my own experience, I have found that an Unconditional Trust in the everpresent Love of God eliminates fear altogether.

God Cares about you.

God Loves you.
Fear Not!

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me

(From: Sophocles (496 BC - 406 BC)

To him who is in fear everything rustles.

In obedience there is always fear, and fear darkens the mind.

(From: Amy Tan)
You see what power is - holding someone else's fear in your hand and showing it to them!

(From: Yoda, Star Wars: Return of the Jedi)
Fear leads to anger, anger leads to hate, hate leads to suffering.

(From: Bertrand Russell (1872 - 1970)
Fear is the main source of superstition, and one of the main sources of cruelty. To conquer fear is the beginning of wisdom.

(From: Marilyn C. Barrick)
For the most part, fear is nothing but an illusion. When you share it with someone else, it tends to disappear.

(From: Sidd'hartha Gautama)
The Way is, harshness greeted with kindness, fear greeted with fortitude.

(From: The Bhagavad Gita as translated by Eknath Easwaran)
Fear Not. What is not real, never was and never will be. What is real, always was and cannot be destroyed.

(From: Marie Curie (1867 - 1934)
Nothing in life is to be feared, it is only to be understood. Now is the time to understand more, so that we may fear less.

(From: Frank Herbert (1920 - 1986), Bene Gesserit Litany Against Fear, "Dune")
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-118 Section-8)
As man shakes off the shackles of fear, as he bridges continents and oceans with his machines, generations and centuries with his records, he must substitute for each transcended restraint a new and voluntarily assumed restraint in accordance with the moral dictates of expanding human wisdom. These self-imposed restraints are at once the most powerful and the most tenuous of all the factors of human civilization--concepts of justice and ideals of brotherhood. Man even qualifies himself for the restraining garments of mercy when he dares to love his fellow men, while he achieves the beginnings of spiritual brotherhood when he elects to mete out to them that treatment which he himself would be accorded, even that treatment which he conceives that God would accord them.

(From: Bertrand Russell (1872 - 1970)
Men fear thought as they fear nothing else on earth -- more than ruin -- more even than death.... Thought is subversive and revolutionary, destructive and terrible, thought is merciless to privilege, established institutions, and comfortable habit. Thought looks into the pit of hell and is not afraid. Thought is great and swift and free, the light of the world, and the chief glory of man.

(From: Albert Einstein (1879 - 1955)
The further the spiritual evolution of mankind advances, the more certain it seems to me that the path to genuine religiosity does not lie through the fear of life, and the fear of death, and blind faith, but through striving after rational knowledge.

(From: David Ben-Gurion)
Courage is a special kind of knowledge; the knowledge of how to fear what ought to be feared and how not to fear what ought not to be feared.

(From: Ham 11/24/02 – the Nashville TeaM)
The higher mind is never fearful. That is your test. It is the lower mind which succumbs to fear and all its attendant illusions. The higher mind is immovable. It is peaceful, and it is ever showing the way toward personality change and unification. The more you can let go of the lower mind and grasp the higher mind with you will, the less you will be troubled by anxiety, sudden panic, overwhelming fears, and the more you will have a steady peace, a reasonable optimism, and a quiet confidence.

(From: “Jesus” - The Urantia Papers - Paper-181 Section-1)
Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. I make these gifts not as the world gives--by measure--I give each of you all you will receive. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be fearful.

(From: Marilyn Ferguson)
Ultimately we know deeply that the other side of fear is a freedom.

(From: A. S. Neill, Summerhill)
Indeed, the absence of fear is the finest thing that can happen to a child.

(From: Bryant McGill, Stanford Lectures on Poetry, 1990890)
In order to deserve, we must pay our dues and steadily work for perfection. We must relish in struggle, and relinquish pride. We must dispel fear and seek enlightenment. We must shun division and honor love. We must know our hearts and seek to understand others. We must try, live, create, feel, grow and love.

(From: Ham 10/4/98 – the Nashville TeaM)
When you feel yourself becoming angry, hateful, fearful, distraught, anxious, these are spirit poisons that pull you even further away from your conscious contact with the Father. So, you must be able to recognize what is happening within you and this is not to say that you must suppress your human emotions. On the contrary, you must explore them, work through them in order to dispel them and all of this is difficult and takes time. But, I say to you that the more you are able to work through these emotions and dispel the spirit poisons, the closer you will be able to align your will with the Father's and the more you will be able to feel God's presence during your day.

(From: James Thurber (1894 - 1961)
Let us not look back in anger, nor forward in fear, but around in awareness.

(From: The ASB Bible - John I 4:16-21)
God is love, and the one who abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him. By this, love is perfected with us, so that we may have confidence in the day of judgment; because as He is, so also are we in this world. There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves punishment, and the one who fears is not perfected in love. We love, because He first loved us. If someone says, "I love God," and hates his brother, he is a liar; for the one who does not love his brother whom he has seen, cannot love God whom he has not seen. And this commandment we have from Him, that the one who loves God should love his brother also.
