It is impossible to make people understand their ignorance;
for it requires knowledge to perceive it and therefore
he that can perceive it
hath it not.

Greetings my Beloved Sisters and Brothers, and welcome once again to the Church that is Within.

There is one thing besides Personality that each of us has and yet None of us have alike…

The topic of today's Sunday Service, #563, is Perception…

Quotes
*******
(From: Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803 - 1882)

Some men's words I remember so well that I must often use them to express my thought. Yes, because I perceive that we have heard the same truth, but they have heard it better.

(From: Albert Einstein (1879 - 1955)
Teaching should be such that what is offered is perceived as a valuable gift and not as a hard duty.

(From: Ansel Adams (1902 - 1984)
No man has the right to dictate what other men should perceive, create or produce, but all should be encouraged to reveal themselves, their perceptions and emotions, and to build confidence in the creative spirit.

(From: “Jesus” - The Urantia Papers - Paper-159 Section-3)
When my children once become self-conscious of the assurance of the divine presence, such a faith will expand the mind, ennoble the soul, reinforce the personality, augment the happiness, deepen the spirit perception, and enhance the power to love and be loved.

(From: Jeffrey Edwin Ross)
We cannot view the world through another being's eyes. Love is knowing, without a doubt, another's perception of the world and being content with having no evidence.

(From: Cardinal John Newman)
Half the controversies in the world are verbal ones; and could they be brought to a plain issue they would be brought to a prompt termination. Parties engaged in them would then perceive either that in substance they agreed together, or that their difference was one of first principles. We need not dispute, we need not prove, we need but define. At all events, let us, if we can, do this first of all and then see who are left for us to dispute; what is left for us to prove.

(From: Hans Margolius)
Only in quiet waters do things mirror themselves undistorted. Only in a quiet mind is adequate perception of the world.

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-106 Section-9)
Time, space, and experience are man's greatest aids to relative reality perception and yet his most formidable obstacles to complete reality perception.

(From: Aaron - 11/16/93 – The Spokane TeaM)
See your brilliance that is trying to reach the surface. Do not cauterize yourself any longer. Open and herald to the echo in your mind that states for you and imparts upon you the trueness of your being. Do not keep yourself locked up, but allow yourself to just break through as a bird breaking through his shell, that once that first crack, that opening, is made the brilliance of the light that is shining upon you is there for you to see. Simply start cracking open that shell to gaze about in wonderment of what it would be like to see the world for the first time. To not view it through your perception of keeping yourself closed in the manner that you sometimes hide behind old patterns, traits, or mannerisms that will not allow you to see this brilliant light. You have been striving to see this light and when it is almost there for you, you shield your eyes. Just allow yourselves to step forth into this brilliance. It is but a small step for you all. You are so close. Do not allow the material part of you to hold you back any longer.

(From: “Jesus” - The Urantia Papers - Paper-133 Section-4)
"My brother, I perceive you are seeking for truth, and I suggest that the spirit of the Father of all truth may chance to dwell within you. Did you ever sincerely endeavor to talk with the spirit of your own soul? Such a thing is indeed difficult and seldom yields consciousness of success; but every honest attempt of the material mind to communicate with its indwelling spirit meets with certain success, notwithstanding that the majority of all such magnificent human experiences must long remain as superconscious registrations in the souls of such God-knowing mortals."

(From: The RSV Bible - Mark 2:8)
And immediately Jesus, perceiving in his spirit that they thus questioned within themselves, said to them, "Why do you question thus in your hearts?

(From: Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803 - 1882)
Our life is not so much threatened,
As our perception.

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-48 Section-7)
You cannot perceive spiritual truth until you feelingly experience it, and many truths are not really felt except in adversity.

(From: Anitob - 11/16/93 – The Spokane TeaM)
But always ground yourself to the fact that you are trying to increase your perception and communication with your Indwelling Spirit. Your burdens will be lighter if this is so.

(From: William Blake (1757 - 1827)
When the doors of perception are cleansed, man will see things as they truly are, infinite.

(From: Henry David Thoreau (1817 - 1862)
When we are unhurried and wise, we perceive that only great and worthy things have any permanent and absolute existence, that petty fears and petty pleasures are but the shadow of the reality.

(From: Ayn Rand (1905 - 1982), Atlas Shrugged)
Rationality is the recognition of the fact that nothing can alter the truth and nothing can take precedence over that act of perceiving it.

(From: Anatole France (1844 - 1924), Thais)
...it is not by reflection and intelligence, but by perception, that the highest and purest truths are attained.

(From: Cato the Elder (234 BC - 149 BC)
Anger so clouds the mind, that it cannot perceive the truth.

(From: The RSV Bible - Matthew 13:15)
For this people's heart has grown dull, and their ears are heavy of hearing, and their eyes they have closed, lest they should perceive with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart…'

(From: Anthony J. D'Angelo, The College Blue Book)
Reality doesn't bite, rather our perception of reality bites.

(From: Bob Conklin)
If human beings are perceived as potentials rather than problems, as possessing strengths instead of weaknesses, as unlimited rather that dull and unresponsive, then they thrive and grow to their capabilities.

(From: Sidney Madwed)
Everyone values things differently. In other words, they place their own value on everything that affects their lives. Also from moment to moment they may even change their values. Such as a person, who values diamonds above all else, might be willing to trade a gallon of diamonds for a drink of water to save his life in a desert. What this means is value is a relative thing depending on a need or a perceived need. Yet, how many people will argue and even violently fight over the perceived value of something or some idea only later have an entirely different view point or value.

(From: “Jesus” - The Urantia Papers - Paper-191 Section-6)
"Peace be upon you. That which my Father sent me into the world to establish belongs not to a race, a nation, nor to a special group of teachers or preachers. This gospel of the kingdom belongs to both Jew and gentile, to rich and poor, to free and bond, to male and female, even to the little children. And you are all to proclaim this gospel of love and truth by the lives which you live in the flesh. You shall love one another with a new and startling affection, even as I have loved you. You will serve mankind with a new and amazing devotion, even as I have served you. And when men see you so love them, and when they behold how fervently you serve them, they will perceive that you have become faith-fellows of the kingdom of heaven, and they will follow after the Spirit of Truth which they see in your lives, to the finding of eternal salvation.

(From: Albert Einstein (1879 - 1955)
My religion consists of a humble admiration of the illimitable superior spirit who reveals himself in the slight details we are able to perceive with our frail and feeble mind.

The Sermon
***********
It is impossible for me to Perceive things in exactly the same way that you. It is Equally impossible for you to Perceive things in exactly the same way as I do. Our perceptions of the world and in fact of Reality itself, are as Unique and Unfathomable to each other as are our Individual Personalities. Our Personal Experiences and overall Perceptions of the Truth are deep and impenetrable… quite often even to ourselves.

Notwithstanding the impossibility of complete and total comprehension of ourselves and others, it is noteworthy to discover that indeed we share Many of our individual Perceptions with others. But… not only does it matter in our relationships with each other, how Many different perceptions we seem to have in common, it also seems to matter a great deal specifically “Which” of our personal perceptions we share with each other And, the level of importance we each assign to our own particular individual perceptions. Some of our perceptions feel non-negotiable to us and others we may be willing to adjust with little if any remorse whatsoever. What I might consider to be one of my inflexible perceptions, you might consider to be one of your more “disposable” ones… and visa-versa.

For example… two people may both perceive that Spirituality and Material Success have value in this life… a rather Common Perception. And yet if one deems Spirituality to be of Primary importance and Material Success to be of minimal significance, while the other sees Material Success to be the priority and Spirituality to be of nominal concern, their overall perceptions of Reality may happen to be at complete odds with each other.

The personal experience that is associated with a specific perception is indispensable to how it is personally perceived. If “Evangelical Fundamentalist Christianity” has seemed to provide a person with an experience of “God Consciousness” then, that person may perceive “Evangelical Fundamentalist Christianity” to be of vital importance to God Consciousness. In another's experience it may have been Catholicism… another's Judaism… and yet in another's it may have been Islam that gave them that personal experience of God's Presence in their life. Each of these particular Theologies would be quick to endorse the experience of their own followers, but equally swift to deny the legitimacy of the “other's” experience. Indeed, it is only a matter of Perception.

Some would consider it appropriate to “Agree to Disagree” but I do not see it that way… that still holds on to an “I'm Right, You're Wrong” perception… a “Black or White” perspective view of an Infinite Color Spectrum.

Our Personal Perceptions are no more valid than anyone else's… but then, neither are they any less valid.

There was an old cowhand who owned a small ranch in Montana. The Montana Wage & Hour Dept. claimed he was not paying proper wages to his help and sent an agent out to interview him.

"I need a list of your employees and how much you pay them," demanded the agent.

"Well," replied the rancher, "There's my ranch hand who's been with me for 3 years. I pay him $600 a week plus free room and board."
"The cook has been here for 18 months, and I pay her $500 per week plus free room and board."
"Then there's the half-wit who works about 18 hours every day and does about 90% of all the work around here. He makes about $10 per week, pays his own room and board and I buy him a bottle of bourbon every Saturday night."

"That's the guy I want to talk to, the half-wit," says the agent.

"That would be me," replied the rancher.

Greetings my Beloved Sisters and Brothers, and welcome once again to the Church that is Within.

Well… I have absolutely No Idea what I am going to write about today. I got “The Bump” to start right here in the 'Welcome' and thank Everybody who wrote in to comment on last week's Service #563 that was on “Perception.” These past few weeks (on days that I am not working in the leather shop), I have been very busy on the backhoe taking about 800+ yards of dirt and rock (more rock than dirt) out of a hill that was once in the way of a 20'X40' shop/garage that we need to put there within a few weeks. The consequence of all this extra physical labor is that… [hmmm… Consequence… yeah, that could work] …ok, so anyway, the consequence is, I have been too exhausted afterwards to do much e-mail responding (I am not nearly so durable as I once was ;-).

Please know that I truly Appreciate Each and Every One of You, and what you share with me!

So… now that I got the Topic word from what I just wrote (funny how that can happen), I guess I had better get busy searching for some quotes…

The topic of today's Sunday Service, #564 , is “Consequences…

Quotes
*******
(From: Voltaire (1694 - 1778)

Indolence is sweet, and its consequences bitter.

(From: John Abrams)
If the people who make the decisions are the people who will also bear the consequences of those decisions, perhaps better decisions will result.

(From: Abraham 2/17/02 – the Woods Cross TeaM)
We need not to serve out of spiritual obligation, no. We need to serve because that is the energy that moves life. Service is the act and love is the consequence. We become more humbled in true service, not exalted because we show ourselves to be good and highly worthy of our fellows praise. Service becomes an honor--not a duty. It becomes a feeling that you stand side-by-side working with Father.

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-176 Section-3)
Truth is living; the Spirit of Truth is ever leading the children of light into new realms of spiritual reality and divine service. You are not given truth to crystallize into settled, safe, and honored forms. Your revelation of truth must be so enhanced by passing through your personal experience that new beauty and actual spiritual gains will be disclosed to all who behold your spiritual fruits and in consequence thereof are led to glorify the Father who is in heaven.

(From: Robert Ingersoll (1833 - 1899)
There are in nature neither rewards nor punishments, there are consequences.

(From: Alfred A. Montapert)
Every person has free choice. Free to obey or disobey the Natural Laws. Your choice determines the consequences. Nobody ever did, or ever will, escape the consequences of his choices.

(From: Marcus Aurelius Antoninus (121 AD - 180 AD)
How much more grievous are the consequences of anger than the causes of it.

(From: Midori Koto)
Honor isn't about making the right choices. It's about dealing with the consequences.

(From: J. K. Rowling, J. K. Rowling Official Website)
Destiny is a name often given in retrospect to choices that had dramatic consequences.

(From: Lois McMaster Bujold, "Memory", 1996)
His mother had often said, When you choose an action, you choose the consequences of that action. She had emphasized the corollary of this axiom even more vehemently: when you desired a consequence you had damned well better take the action that would create it.

(From: Thomas H. Huxley (1825 - 1895)
Make up your mind to act decidedly and take the consequences. No good is ever done in this world by hesitation.

(From: Holly Lisle, Fire In The Mist, 1992)
Actions have consequences...first rule of life. And the second rule is this - you are the only one responsible for your own actions.

(From: W. H. Murray, The Scottish Himalaya Expedition 1951)
This may sound too simple, but is great in consequence. Until one is committed, there is hesitancy, the chance to draw back, always ineffectiveness. Concerning all acts of initiative (and creation), there is one elementary truth the ignorance of which kills countless ideas and splendid plans: that the moment one definitely commits oneself, then providence moves too. A whole stream of events issues from the decision, raising in one's favor all manner of unforeseen incidents, meetings and material assistance, which no man could have dreamt would have come his way."

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-48 Section-7)
The weak indulge in resolutions, but the strong act. Life is but a day's work--do it well. The act is ours; the consequences God's.

(From: Elyon 4/8/2004 – the Lightline TeaM)
The spiritual principle that says that the act is ours and the consequence is God's suggests that in faith we can serve, we can share what it is that we know, but we are not to be overly concerned with the result. And yet, if you could stand back, much as your Jimmy Stewart portrayed (It's a Wonderful Life), and look upon the events of your life, you might see the people you've touched, but never knew you touched.

(From: John Ruskin (1819 - 1900)
What we think, or what we know, or what we believe is, in the end, of little consequence. The only consequence is what we do.

*******************************************
The Sermon
***********
Often in life, consequences seem to follow relatively closely upon the heels of our actions. But Ore often it seems like that doesn't happen nearly often Enough… especially when it comes to the consequences of our Good Actions.

Good consequences (or at least the consequences one perhaps had Hoped for from a particular action), take more time to unfold than do the consequences one does Not like from actions that they were Not proud of. Does it seem like that to you at times? Why is that do you think?

Do something ya know is wrong and, Wham-Bang! Negative consequences just start piling up on top of each other… starting with the fear of getting caught and building from there. Many times it appears that people get away with or even benefit from doing bad things, but in the Big Picture, they Don't. The law of “reap what you sow” is inescapable even if delayed.

Do something you know is Good and Loving and… “OK…where's my Prize?” …like the Pure Joy of doing it isn't enough. …or, the pleasure of seeing others benefit from your actions is insufficient. Well, hey… Those are but the first of a long continuous line of beneficial consequences that follow Good and Loving Actions. The Good consequences need time to unfold… often it is that one needs the time to personally grow and mature in order to completely Appreciate and Benefit from the Full Reward of Good and Loving actions.

I especially like the quote: “The act is ours; the consequences God's.”

God knows Exactly what we want, and exactly what we Need. Even more importantly, God knows the Perfect Moment to give us those things.

“Wait for it… here it comes… wait for it…”

"What happened, Mother?" the daughter asked.

 "You mean he got fresh?"

"No," she answered, "I thought he was dead."

Quotes

(From: The RSV Bible - Romans 13:10-11)
Love does no wrong to a neighbor; therefore love is the fulfilling of the law. Besides this you know what hour it is, how it is full time now for you to wake from sleep. For salvation is nearer to us now than when we first believed;

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-195 Section-5)
We find God through the leadings of spiritual insight, but we approach this insight of the soul through the love of the beautiful, the pursuit of truth, loyalty to duty, and the worship of divine goodness. But of all these values, love is the true guide to real insight.

(From: The RSV Bible - Corinthians I 13:4-7)
Love is patient and kind; love is not jealous or boastful; it is not arrogant or rude. Love does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrong, but rejoices in the right. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

(From: Socrates (469 BC - 399 BC)
The shortest and surest way to live with honour in the world, is to be in reality what we would appear to be; and if we observe, we shall find, that all human virtues increase and strengthen themselves by the practice of them.

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-2 Section-7)
Truth is coherent, beauty attractive, goodness stabilizing. And when these values of that which is real are co-ordinated in personality experience, the result is a high order of love conditioned by wisdom and qualified by loyalty.

(From: Robert H. Goddard (1882 - 1945)
It is difficult to say what is impossible, for the dream of yesterday is the hope of today and the reality of tomorrow.

(From: The ASB Bible - Romans 5:5)
…and hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out within our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us.

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-180 Section-4)
This new teacher is the Spirit of Truth who will live with each one of you, in your hearts, and so will all the children of light be made one and be drawn toward one another. And in this very manner will my Father and I be able to live in the souls of each one of you and also in the hearts of all other men who love us and make that love real in their experiences by loving one another, even as I am now loving you."

(From: The ASB Bible - Romans 12:10)
Be devoted to one another in brotherly love; give preference to one another in honor;

(From: Frank Herbert (1920 - 1986), Dune)
The mystery of life isn't a problem to solve, but a reality to experience.

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-56 Section-10)
To finite man truth, beauty, and goodness embrace the full revelation of divinity reality. As this love-comprehension of Deity finds spiritual expression in the lives of God-knowing mortals, there are yielded the fruits of divinity: intellectual peace, social progress, moral satisfaction, spiritual joy, and cosmic wisdom.

(From: Henry David Thoreau (1817 - 1862)
When we are unhurried and wise, we perceive that only great and worthy things have any permanent and absolute existence, that petty fears and petty pleasures are but the shadow of the reality.

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-117 Section-4)
The more closely man approaches God through love, the greater the reality--actuality--of that man.

(From: Martin Luther King Jr. (1929 - 1968)
I believe that unarmed truth and unconditional love will have the final word in reality. That is why right, temporarily defeated, is stronger than evil triumphant.

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-117 Section-6)
All true love is from God, and man receives the divine affection as he himself bestows this love upon his fellows. Love is dynamic. It can never be captured; it is alive, free, thrilling, and always moving. Man can never take the love of the Father and imprison it within his heart. The Father's love can become real to mortal man only by passing through that man's personality as he in turn bestows this love upon his fellows.

(From: The ASB Bible - John 13:34-35)
"A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another, even as I have loved you, that you also love one another. "By this all men will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another."

He who tells a lie is not sensible of how great a task he undertakes; for he must be forced to invent twenty more to maintain that one.

Welcome by: Pastor Daniel
************************
Greetings my Beloved Sisters and Brothers, and welcome once again to the Church that is Within.

Ever notice how every once in a while things seem like they are starting to fall apart?

The topic of today's Sunday Service, #566, is Maintenance…

*******************************************
The Sermon
***********
Anyone who has ever owned a vehicle, or a home… or has grown a garden, or a marriage… or has had a family, or a physical body [I would guess that pretty well covers just about everybody now, don't you think? ;-)]… should be relatively familiar with the necessity of semi-regular Maintenance.

Maintenance, it would seem, is necessary… or rather Essential, to just about Everything one can imagine concerning the human material experience. Regular Maintenance is key to insuring adequate Protection and to providing continual Preservation of all things. Maintenance is also a Safeguard against being subjected to many avoidable problems.

I imagine by now you may have conjectured that I am not here to talk about changing your oil, or painting your house… or pulling weeds, or having a night out… or earning a living, or doing your stretching exercises… although any of them would provide an adequate analogy in regard to the Higher form of Maintenance that sometimes gets overlooked here in the physical realm.

Yes Indeedy… I am talking about Spiritual Maintenance.

Spiritual Maintenance, helps us to keep our attitudes healthy and our emotions in balance… helps us to keep our faith operating effectively and our inner peace functioning at optimum… helps us to keep our thoughts flowing and our Wisdom Growing.

Now many might think that simply attending a theological service for an hour or two once a week is adequate to provide for one's Spiritual Maintenance, but I rather see that more as going to the gas station and filling up your tank once a week. Eventually the fuel will be depleted and you'll have to fill up again… and again… and again. Some fuels may help your vehicle run better than others, and some might give you better mileage than others, but Adequate Maintenance requires much more than just filling up the gas whenever you run out.

Spiritual Maintenance requires regular lubrication with Truth. One needs to check their Truth often and top it up as necessary and even change it periodically [Fresh Truth does wonders for enhancing the attitude and freeing up the emotions]. Failure to do so will eventually cause sluggishness and eventually even attitude or emotional decay.

Another essential to Good Spiritual Maintenance is making sure you have enough Beauty in your life to keep your Soul continuously Charged up. The regular experience of Beauty keeps the light of faith shining brightly and augments one's capacity for the enjoyment of inner peace.

And where would our Spiritual Health be without recognizing and being a part of Goodness? The experience of Goodness enhances the thought process and inspires further attainment of Wisdom.

Truth, Beauty and Goodness are Indispensable to ones regular Spiritual Maintenance. They are Also like fuel, air, and oil filters in that they help to keep out many of the impurities that impair proper function.

Humility and Thankfulness need to be added each time you finish up a journey of any length… they help to keep the Spiritual Filters clean and free-flowing. Failure to replenish them eventually can result in hesitation, misfire and sludge build up causing poor performance and lack of power [and who of us doesn't know what That feels like ;-)].

What about Love you say? Is Love not equally, nay even More important than all of the others?
Uh… well Yeah!
Love my dears is…

“The Road.”

So…
Is anyone due for some Spiritual Maintenance right now?

…or perhaps the better question…
Is anyone Not due for some Spiritual Maintenance right now?

Maintenance… So easy to overlook… so Crucial Not to.

(From: Oprah Winfrey (1954 - ), O Magazine, July 2003)
Energy is the essence of life. Every day you decide how you're going to use it by knowing what you want and what it takes to reach that goal, and by maintaining focus.

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-100 Section-2)
Spiritual development depends, first, on the maintenance of a living spiritual connection with true spiritual forces and, second, on the continuous bearing of spiritual fruit: yielding the ministry to one's fellows of that which has been received from one's spiritual benefactors. Spiritual progress is predicated on intellectual recognition of spiritual poverty coupled with the self-consciousness of perfection-hunger, the desire to know God and be like him, the wholehearted purpose to do the will of the Father in heaven.

(From: Francis J. Braceland)
We can be sure that the greatest hope for maintaining equilibrium in the face of any situation rests within ourselves.

(From: Dorothy Thompson (1894 - 1961)
Peace has to be created, in order to be maintained. It is the product of Faith, Strength, Energy, Will, Sympathy, Justice, Imagination, and the triumph of principle. It will never be achieved by passivity and quietism.

(From: John Russell)
If peace cannot be maintained with honor, it is no longer peace.

(From: Cicero (106 BC - 43 BC)
We are obliged to respect, defend and maintain the common bonds of union and fellowship that exist among all members of the human race.

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-70 Section-9)
It is the business and duty of society to provide the child of nature with a fair and peaceful opportunity to pursue self-maintenance, participate in self-perpetuation, while at the same time enjoying some measure of self-gratification, the sum of all three constituting human happiness.

(From: Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi)
Pleasure is an important component of the quality of life, but by itself it does not bring happiness. Pleasure helps to maintain order, but by itself cannot create a new order in consciousness.

(From: Mark Twain (1835 - 1910)
Time cools, time clarifies; no mood can be maintained quite unaltered through the course of hours.

(From: Sir Thomas Browne (1605 - 1682)
Sure there is music even in the beauty, and the silent note which Cupid strikes, far sweeter than the sound of an instrument. For there is music wherever there is harmony, order and proportion; and thus far we may maintain the music of the spheres; for those well ordered motions, and regular paces, though they give no sound unto the ear, yet to the understanding they strike a note most full of harmony.

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-160 Section-2)
Isolation tends to exhaust the energy charge of the soul. Association with one's fellows is essential to the renewal of the zest for life and is indispensable to the maintenance of the courage to fight those battles consequent upon the ascent to the higher levels of human living. Friendship enhances the joys and glorifies the triumphs of life. Loving and intimate human associations tend to rob suffering of its sorrow and hardship of much of its bitterness. The presence of a friend enhances all beauty and exalts every goodness.

(From: George Washington (1732 - 1799)
I hope I shall possess firmness and virtue enough to maintain what I consider the most enviable of all titles, the character of an honest man.

(From: Paramahansa Yogananda)
Trust more in God. Believe that He who created you will maintain you.
