“A Modern Lord's Prayer”
Our Father, who shall be termed party of the first part, whose place of business is in Heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy Kingdom, pursuant to terms and conditions, come. Thy will, duly uncontested, be done on earth, in as far as existing statutes permit, as it is in Heaven. Give us this Thirty-first day of December, 2000, our daily bread. Forgive us our debts, notwithstanding claims, liens and legal costs, as we, who shall be termed party of the second part, forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, i.e. sin, corruption, greed, gluttony, etc., but deliver us from evil, the nature of which shall be determined by the court. For thine is the Kingdom, and the Power, and, pending appeal, the Glory forever. Amen.

Greetings my Beloved Sisters and Brothers, and welcome once again to the Church that is Within.

Good Morning Friends! August already and… Wasn't it just New Years??? I am on day 3 of a 5 day “Road Trip” to Southwestern Washington near Portland OR at the present, visiting dear old and new friends. Today we'll be visiting The Willamette Valley Wine region for a bit of Pinot Noir tasting.

I would very much like to thank our own Minister Mark Rogers for providing the Great Service for today so that I would be able to have the additional 8 hours time saved to put towards my R&R tour.

Thank you Mark!

The topic of today's Sunday Service, #719 by Minister Mark Rogers, is Acting in Faith …

The Sermon
***********
Hello Fine Folks,

It's a pleasure to be here again with you as we explore the ever deeper dimensions of spiritual awareness.

This week I have been struck with the sense of just how important it is for us take an active roll in the impact of all that's going on "out there" on our inner being. That is to say that so much of what impacts us is up to us--- at least as far as how it impacts us. We choose the lens we will look out at life through and in so doing we see only what will come into focus with any given lens, perspective or preconception.

Given that this truth is self evident it then becomes our challenge and opportunity to actively cultivate the attitude, develop the perspective of right-mindedness and polish the lens of our observation to in turn create the truth we would see and see the truth we would create.

So how does one so tend this internal garden of self to yield the greatest fruits?

I believe it is achieved when one is safe and secure in their personal relationship as a spiritual being to all that is spiritual.  That is - the security of who you are - you are the child of Divine parents who know you and love you with a Divine affection. You are also a member of the family of man and as such are equally deserving of all rights and privileges inherent in being a member of the family. Given where you came from and what your destiny is, how then can you not have a positive outlook or predisposition? If you will take for granted these truths then you will rest in confidence that the universe and this grand plan are friendly to you, and so it will be.

It's really that easy to "make your way" through all that goes on out there - simply remain in a state of right mindedness and all the world will be right to you.

So easy to say, such a different thing to do.

Lord grant me the strength to do what is so easy to say,

Wishing blessings for you all,

Mark Rogers

The Prayer
**********
Dear God,
Help us to be faithful stewards of the lenses we have and use to "see" what's going on "out there". May we, in pursuit of our spiritual dimension, polish our lenses to perfection with our efforts to pursue spiritual vision. And may we be ever willing to share the view we have through our lens with you - our Divine Parents and partners on this extraordinary journey through time and space.
Our own view may be unique in all time but we are also part of the big picture overall which includes all the different views to make the whole picture complete.
It is our will that your will be done, help us to make it so.

InA gratitude, Mark

Greetings my Beloved Sisters and Brothers, and welcome once again to the Church that is Within.

Last Sunday my friends that I stayed with took me to see some of the Oregon Wine Country and we visited some of their Vineyards. The views were extraordinary and the rows upon rows of well tended and perfectly pruned grape vines inspired me to think about pruning my own grape vines when I returned home from my journey. The last time I had considered the task, it looked to me as if I could afford to postpone it a bit longer until I had a little more time to devote to it. When I got back and looked at my vines, it looked more like I would need a machete than pruning shears. How could they possibly have gotten so out of control in so short of a time?

The topic of today's Sunday Service, #720, is Convenience…

********************************************
Quotes
*******
(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-65 Section-5)
The universe of universes, including this small world called Urantia, is not being managed merely to meet our approval nor just to suit our convenience, much less to gratify our whims and satisfy our curiosity. The wise and all-powerful beings who are responsible for universe management undoubtedly know exactly what they are about; and so it becomes Life Carriers and behooves mortal minds to enlist in patient waiting and hearty co-operation with the rule of wisdom, the reign of power, and the march of progress.

(From: Martin Luther King Jr. (1929 - 1968)
The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.

(From: G. K. Chesterton (1874 - 1936)
An adventure is only an inconvenience rightly considered. An inconvenience is an adventure wrongly considered.

(From: Hugh Macleod, How To Be Creative: 24, 08-22-04)
You have to find a way of working that makes it dead easy to take full advantage of your inspired moments. They never hit at a convenient time, nor do they last long.

*******************************************
The Sermon
***********
Does the successful farmer care for his crops, or the gardener his garden only when it is convenient for them to do so?
Does the good shepherd tend his flock, or the rancher his herds in deference to their own convenience?

Of Course not… Necessity determines which convenience takes priority.

Do you come to the aid of a beloved friend, or attend to the needs of your child only when your own convenience is served?

They who would truly serve God, and be in Service to their human brothers and sisters, do so without concern toward their own personal convenience.

Love Makes it convenient.

An old Jew got a parrot from his sons after his wife died, to keep him company. Eventually he discovered that the parrot had heard him pray so often that it, too, had learned to pray. The old man was so thrilled that he took his parrot to the synagogue on Rosh Hashanah (Jewish new year). When he entered with the bird, the rabbi tried to protest, but when the old man told them all that the parrot could pray, they got interested--though skeptical. People started betting on whether the parrot would pray, and the old man happily took all the bets. The prayer started--the bird was silent. The prayer continued--not a word from the bird. The prayer ended, and the old man, crestfallen, paid out the bets. On the way home he asked his parrot: “What did you do to me? I know you can pray, you know you can pray, and I bet you can pray--and you let me down!” Said the parrot: “Hey, look ahead--can you imagine what the odds will be like on Yom Kippur?”

Greetings my Beloved Sisters and Brothers, and welcome once again to the Church that is Within.

Do you let others tell you how and what to think or do you prefer to find those things out for yourself?

The topic of today's Sunday Service, #721, is Perception…

*******************************************
The Sermon
***********
A person's Perception is as unique and individual as is his personality. No two are exactly alike. Few indeed are even similar beyond basic surface inspection.

Where one person may perceive humor and enjoyment, another may perceive only hurtfulness and pain.

Where one may perceive goodness, another may only be able to perceive evil.

Where some can perceive only chaos and conflict, others may perceive an underlying order… a larger harmony.

None are completely right… none are completely wrong. All is relative to the experience, the education, the understanding, the upbringing and the environment of the individual. Your world and your reality is almost wholly defined by your perception of it. Some would perceive that your reality is actually determined and shaped by your perceptions.

There is a human tendency to assume that others perceive things the same way we do. Another tendency is to imagine that they Should if in fact they do not. Another misperception is that they even Could if for some reason they actually Wanted to Are you wrong if you do not perceive things the way that I do? Am I wrong if I do not perceive things just as you?

Our Perceptions may/will grow and evolve if we allow them to. They will just as easily deteriorate and become stifling if we do not.

It is beneficial and loving to share your perceptions with others. It is presumptuous and conceited to attempt to impose your perceptions upon another.

Some perceive the hand of God in all things… others perceive only demons.

I choose to perceive God.

Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803 - 1882)
Some men's words I remember so well that I must often use them to express my thought. Yes, because I perceive that we have heard the same truth, but they have heard it better.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-102 Section-2)
Observing minds and discriminating souls know religion when they find it in the lives of their fellows. Religion requires no definition; we all know its social, intellectual, moral, and spiritual fruits. And this all grows out of the fact that religion is the property of the human race; it is not a child of culture. True, one's perception of religion is still human and therefore subject to the bondage of ignorance, the slavery of superstition, the deceptions of sophistication, and the delusions of false philosophy.

(From: Jeffrey Edwin Ross)
We cannot view the world through another being's eyes. Love is knowing, without a doubt, another's perception of the world and being content with having no evidence.

(From: Albert Einstein (1879 - 1955)
My religion consists of a humble admiration of the illimitable superior spirit who reveals himself in the slight details we are able to perceive with our frail and feeble mind.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-106 Section-9)
Time, space, and experience are man's greatest aids to relative reality perception and yet his most formidable obstacles to complete reality perception.

(From: Aristotle (384 BC - 322 BC)
To be conscious that we are perceiving or thinking is to be conscious of our own existence.

(From: William Blake (1757 - 1827)
When the doors of perception are cleansed, man will see things as they truly are, infinite.

The divine spirit makes contact with mortal man, not by feelings or emotions, but in the realm of the highest and most spiritualized thinking. It is your thoughts, not your feelings, that lead you Godward. The divine nature may be perceived only with the eyes of the mind.

(From: Cato the Elder (234 BC - 149 BC)
Anger so clouds the mind, that it cannot perceive the truth.

(From:
Hans Margolius)

Only in quiet waters do things mirror themselves undistorted. Only in a quiet mind is adequate perception of the world.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-48 Section-7)
You cannot perceive spiritual truth until you feelingly experience it, and many truths are not really felt except in adversity.

(From: R. A. Salvatore, Sojourn)
Most self-imposed burdens are founded on misperceptions. We - at least we of sincere character - always judge ourselves by stricter standards than we expect others to abide by. It is a curse, I suppose, or a blessing, depending on how one views it... Take it as a blessing, my friend, an inner calling that forces you to strive to unattainable heights.

(From: Ansel Adams (1902 - 1984)
No man has the right to dictate what other men should perceive, create or produce, but all should be encouraged to reveal themselves, their perceptions and emotions, and to build confidence in the creative spirit.

(From: “Jesus” - The Urantia Book - Paper-159 Section-3)
When my children once become self-conscious of the assurance of the divine presence, such a faith will expand the mind, ennoble the soul, reinforce the personality, augment the happiness, deepen the spirit perception, and enhance the power to love and be loved.

Greetings my Beloved Sisters and Brothers, and welcome once again to the Church that is Within.

So many today think of their Faith as being their Theology, or as the type of Church that they go to. Ask them of their Faith and they tell you their Beliefs.

Is That really the Faith that Saves you? Is that truly The Faith that makes you Whole?

The topic of today's Sunday Service, #722, is: is it Belief or Faith…

********************************************
Quotes
*******
(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-101 Section-8)
Belief has attained the level of faith when it motivates life and shapes the mode of living. The acceptance of a teaching as true is not faith; that is mere belief. Neither is certainty nor conviction faith. A state of mind attains to faith levels only when it actually dominates the mode of living. Faith is a living attribute of genuine personal religious experience.

(From: The RSV Bible - Romans 1:17)
For in it the righteousness of God is revealed through faith for faith; as it is written, "He who through faith is righteous shall live."

(From: Mahatma Gandhi (1869 - 1948)
You must not lose faith in humanity. Humanity is an ocean; if a few drops of the ocean are dirty, the ocean does not become dirty.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-102 Section-6)
Belief may not be able to resist doubt and withstand fear, but faith is always triumphant over doubting, for faith is both positive and living.

(From: The RSV Bible - Romans 12:3-4)
For by the grace given to me I bid every one among you not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think with sober judgment, each according to the measure of faith which God has assigned him. For as in one body we have many members, and all the members do not have the same function,

(From: George E. Woodberry)
If you can't have faith in what is held up to you for faith, you must find things to believe in yourself, for a life without faith in something is too narrow a space to live.

(From: Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803 - 1882)
The faith that stand on authority is not faith.

(From: Henry David Thoreau (1817 - 1862)
We must have infinite faith in each other. If we have not, we must never let it leak out that we have not.

(From: Helen Keller (1880 - 1968)
Optimism is the faith that leads to achievement. Nothing can be done without hope and confidence.

(From: William Hazlitt (1778 - 1830)
If you think you can win, you can win. Faith is necessary to victory.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-101 Section-1)
Religion lives and prospers, then, not by sight and feeling, but rather by faith and insight. It consists not in the discovery of new facts or in the finding of a unique experience, but rather in the discovery of new and spiritual meanings in facts already well known to mankind. The highest religious experience is not dependent on prior acts of belief, tradition, and authority; neither is religion the offspring of sublime feelings and purely mystical emotions. It is, rather, a profoundly deep and actual experience of spiritual communion with the spirit influences resident within the human mind, and as far as such an experience is definable in terms of psychology, it is simply the experience of experiencing the reality of believing in God as the reality of such a purely personal experience.

(From: The RSV Bible - Luke 16:10 )
"He who is faithful in a very little is faithful also in much;

(From:
Sydney Smith (1771 - 1845)

It is always right that a man should be able to render a reason for the faith that is within him.

(From: Alfred A. Montapert)
Why are we Masters of our Fate, the captains of our souls? Because we have the power to control our thoughts, our attitudes. That is why many people live in the withering negative world. That is why many people live in the Positive Faith world. And you don't have to be a poet or a philosopher to know which is best.

(From: Norman Henry S. Haskins)
Treat the other man's faith gently; it is all he has to believe with. His mind was created for his own thoughts, not yours or mine.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-101 Section-8)
Belief is always limiting and binding; faith is expanding and releasing. Belief fixates, faith liberates. But living religious faith is more than the association of noble beliefs; it is more than an exalted system of philosophy; it is a living experience concerned with spiritual meanings, divine ideals, and supreme values; it is God-knowing and man-serving. Beliefs may become group possessions, but faith must be personal. Theologic beliefs can be suggested to a group, but faith can rise up only in the heart of the individual religionist.

Belief is theory…
Faith is Practice.
Belief defines…
Faith validates.
Belief recognizes…

Love…

A day in the life of a human being does not go by without at least One, more likely
Several, and sometimes even All of these, needing to be focused upon. And yet how many actually attend to any phase of Renewal on a daily basis? Would they not be better off is they Did? I know I would be. Wouldn't you?

Renewal. It's not just for licenses and subscriptions any more…

(From: “Jesus” - The Urantia Book - Paper-143 Section-2)
"By the old way you seek to suppress, obey, and conform to the rules of living; by the new way you are first transformed by the Spirit of Truth and thereby strengthened in your inner soul by the constant spiritual renewing of your mind, and so are you endowed with the power of the certain and joyous performance of the gracious, acceptable, and perfect will of God. Forget not--it is your personal faith in the exceedingly great and precious promises of God that ensures your becoming partakers of the divine nature. Thus by your faith and the spirit's transformation, you become in reality the temples of God, and his spirit actually dwells within you. If, then, the spirit dwells within you, you are no longer bondslaves of the flesh but free and liberated sons of the spirit. The new law of the spirit endows you with the liberty of self-mastery in place of the old law of the fear of self-bondage and the slavery of self-denial.

(From: The ASB Bible - Romans 12:2)
And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.

(From: The Book of Runes - #6 - Initiation (Perth))
If need be, let go of everything, no exceptions, no exclusions. Nothing less than renewal of the Spirit is at stake.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-34 Section-6)
The divine Spirit is the source of continual ministry and encouragement to the children of men. Your power and achievement is "according to his mercy, through the renewing of the Spirit." Spiritual life, like physical energy, is consumed. Spiritual effort results in relative spiritual exhaustion. The whole ascendant experience is real as well as spiritual; therefore, it is truly written, "It is the Spirit that quickens." "The Spirit gives life."

(From: The RSV Bible - Isaiah 40:29-31)
He gives power to the faint, and to him who has no might he increases strength. Even youths shall faint and be weary, and young men shall fall exhausted; but they who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength, they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.

(From: Shmuley Boteach)
Renewal is the key to survival and passion in all realms of life"

(From: Bernie S. Siegel)
If you watch how nature deals with adversity, continually renewing itself, you cannot help but learn.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-160 Section-2)
Isolation tends to exhaust the energy charge of the soul. Association with one's fellows is essential to the renewal of the zest for life and is indispensable to the maintenance of the courage to fight those battles consequent upon the ascent to the higher levels of human living. Friendship enhances the joys and glorifies the triumphs of life. Loving and intimate human associations tend to rob suffering of its sorrow and hardship of much of its bitterness. The presence of a friend enhances all beauty and exalts every goodness.

(From: Deepak Chopra, The Path to Love)
The spiritual meaning of love is measured by what it can do. Love is meant to heal. Love is meant to renew. Love is meant to bring us closer to God.

(From: The KJV Bible - Ephesians 4:23-24)
And be renewed in the spirit of your mind; And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.

(From: Johann Wolfgang von Goethe (1749 - 1832)
We must always change, renew, rejuvenate ourselves; otherwise we harden.

(From: Susan Taylor)
We need quiet time to examine our lives openly and honestly. . . spending quiet time alone gives your mind an opportunity to renew itself and create order.

(From: Hermann Hesse)
Whether you and I and a few others will renew the world some day remains to be seen. But within ourselves we must renew it each day.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-156 Section-5)
Kingdom believers should possess an implicit faith, a whole-souled belief, in the certain triumph of righteousness. Kingdom builders must be undoubting of the truth of the gospel of eternal salvation. Believers must increasingly learn how to step aside from the rush of life--escape the harassments of material existence--while they refresh the soul, inspire the mind, and renew the spirit by worshipful communion.

(From: Dale E. Turner)
Dreams are renewable. No matter what our age or condition, there are still untapped possibilities within us and new beauty waiting to be born.

(From: The ASB Bible - Corinthians II 4:16)
Therefore we do not lose heart, but though our outer man is decaying, yet our inner man is being renewed day by day.

(From: Barbara Kingsolver)
Hope is a renewable option: If you run out of it at the end of the day, you get to start over in the morning.

(From: Henri Frederic Amiel)
So as long as a person is capable of self-renewal, they are a living being.

(From: C. Neil Strait)
Life lived amidst tension and busyness needs leisure. Leisure that recreates and renews. Leisure should be a time to think new thoughts, not ponder old ills.”

(From: “Jesus” - The Urantia Book - Paper-147 Section-8)
“The Father rather desires that you draw out your heart to the hungry, and that you minister to the afflicted souls; then shall your light shine in obscurity, and even your darkness shall be as the noonday. Then shall the Lord guide you continually, satisfying your soul and renewing your strength. You shall become like a watered garden, like a spring whose waters fail not. And they who do these things shall restore the wasted glories; they shall raise up the foundations of many generations; they shall be called the rebuilders of broken walls, the restorers of safe paths in which to dwell.”

(From:
Wilfred Peterson)

A man practices the art of adventure when he breaks the chain of routine and renews his life through reading new books, traveling to new places, making new friends, taking up new hobbies and adopting new viewpoints”
