People often say that motivation doesn't last. Well, neither does bathing—that's why we recommend it daily.

Welcome by: Pastor Daniel
************************
Greetings my Beloved Sisters and Brothers, and welcome once again to the Church that is Within. You are the Temple. You are the Congregation. Any and All Truth is the Gospel. The Divine Spirit within you is your Insight.

This is the first time in 772 services that I have used only quotes from The Urantia Book for the Church Within Sunday Service Quotes. I ordinarily prefer to use quotes from as many different sources as possible to express my concept for the day. But these particular quotes just seemed to work for me on their own this morning.
So…

The topic of today's Sunday Service, #772, is Motivation…

Quotes
*******
(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-71 Section-6)
Present-day profit-motivated economics is doomed unless profit motives can be augmented by service motives. Ruthless competition based on narrow-minded self-interest is ultimately destructive of even those things which it seeks to maintain. Exclusive and self-serving profit motivation is incompatible with Christian ideals--much more incompatible with the teachings of Jesus.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-54 Section-1)
Even wisdom is divine and safe only when it is cosmic in scope and spiritual in motivation.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-99 Section-3)
Many individual social deconstructionists, while vehemently repudiating institutionalized religion, are, after all, zealously religious in the propagation of their social reforms. And so it is that religious motivation, personal and more or less unrecognized, is playing a great part in the present-day program of social reconstruction.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-48 Section-6)
No act of good is ever wholly lost; it may be long thwarted but never wholly annulled, and it is eternally potent in proportion to the divinity of its motivation.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-34 Section-6)
It is the presence of the divine Spirit, the water of life, that prevents the consuming thirst of mortal discontent and that indescribable hunger of the unspiritualized human mind. Spirit-motivated beings "never thirst, for this spiritual water shall be in them a well of satisfaction springing up into life everlasting." Such divinely watered souls are all but independent of material environment as regards the joys of living and the satisfactions of earthly existence. They are spiritually illuminated and refreshed, morally strengthened and endowed.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-100 Section-2)
Spiritual growth is first an awakening to needs, next a discernment of meanings, and then a discovery of values. The evidence of true spiritual development consists in the exhibition of a human personality motivated by love, activated by unselfish ministry, and dominated by the wholehearted worship of the perfection ideals of divinity. And this entire experience constitutes the reality of religion as contrasted with mere theological beliefs.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-101 Section-8)
Belief has attained the level of faith when it motivates life and shapes the mode of living. The acceptance of a teaching as true is not faith; that is mere belief. Neither is certainty nor conviction faith. A state of mind attains to faith levels only when it actually dominates the mode of living.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-100 Section-4)
You can best discover values in your associates by discovering their motivation. If some one irritates you, causes feelings of resentment, you should sympathetically seek to discern his viewpoint, his reasons for such objectionable conduct. If once you understand your neighbor, you will become tolerant, and this tolerance will grow into friendship and ripen into love.
In the mind's eye conjure up a picture of one of your primitive ancestors of cave-dwelling times--a short, misshapen, filthy, snarling hulk of a man standing, legs spread, club upraised, breathing hate and animosity as he looks fiercely just ahead. Such a picture hardly depicts the divine dignity of man. But allow us to enlarge the picture. In front of this animated human crouches a saber-toothed tiger. Behind him, a woman and two children. Immediately you recognize that such a picture stands for the beginnings of much that is fine and noble in the human race, but the man is the same in both pictures. Only in the second sketch you are favored with a widened horizon. You therein discern the motivation of this evolving mortal. His attitude becomes praiseworthy because you understand him. If you could only fathom the motives of your associates, how much better you would understand them. If you could only know your fellows, you would eventually fall in love with them.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-196 Section-3)
Love is the highest motivation which man may utilize in his universe ascent.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-140 Section-4)
The happy and effective person is motivated, not by fear of wrongdoing, but by love of right doing.

*******************************************
The Sermon
***********
Do all that you are able, to Discern and Understand the Motivations of others… Judge only your own.

When Spirit Motivation seems to elude you, Love someone… anyone… everyone. There, in Love, may that Motivation find and energize you.

*******************************************
The Prayer
**********
Dear God,
Let me never be motivated by fear… only by Love.

You ALL are Within the Infinitely Loving Embrace of our Universal
Parent,

The Creator's Infinite Love to all of You,

When the highest type of men hear Tao,
They diligently practice it.
When the average type of men hear Tao,
They half believe in it.
When the lowest type of men hear Tao,
They laugh heartily at it.
Without the laugh, there is no Tao.

Greetings my Beloved Sisters and Brothers, and welcome once again to the Church that is Within. You are the Temple. You are the Congregation. Any and All Truth is the Gospel. The Divine Spirit within you is your True Minister.

Those of you who consider themselves followers of Jesus should be rather familiar with his injunction, “Be you perfect, even as your Father in heaven is perfect.” Now is that something that you have ever really seriously considered? I mean Look at us Humans… how likely is That? But then… you know what it is that is said, “Makes Perfect” right?….

The topic of today's Sunday Service, #773, is Practice…

Peter I 4:9-10)
Practice hospitality ungrudgingly to one another. As each has received a gift, employ it for one another, as good stewards of God's varied grace:

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-103 Section-5)
And then Jesus enlarged the neighbor scope to embrace the whole of humanity, even that we should love our enemies. And there is something inside of every normal human being that tells him this teaching is moral--right. Even those who practice this ideal least, admit that it is right in theory.

(From: Socrates (469 BC - 399 BC)
The shortest and surest way to live with honour in the world, is to be in reality what we would appear to be; and if we observe, we shall find, that all human virtues increase and strengthen themselves by the practice of them.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-103 Section-4)
And this is the prelude to true worship--the practice of the presence of God which eventuates in the emergence of the brotherhood of man.

(From: Augustus Octavius)
Practice, the master of all things.

(From: Bertrand Russell (1872 - 1970)
We have, in fact, two kinds of morality side by side: one which we preach but do not practice, and another which we practice but seldom preach.

(From: Titus Maccius Plautus (254 BC - 184 BC), Asinaria)
Practice yourself what you preach.

(From: Hyman Rickover (1900 - 1986)
Good ideas are not adopted automatically. They must be driven into practice with courageous patience.

(From: Chuck Reid)

(From: Confucius (551 BC - 479 BC), The Confucian Analects)
By nature, men are nearly alike; by practice, they get to be wide apart.

(From: The Dalai Lama (1935 -)
If you want others to be happy, practice compassion. If you want to be happy, practice compassion.

(From: Henry Ward Beecher (1813 - 1887)
To become an able and successful man in any profession, three things are necessary, nature, study and practice.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-131 Section-10)
But first of all I am going to practice worshiping God by learning how to do the will of God on earth; that is, I am going to do my best to treat each of my fellow mortals just as I think God would like to have him treated. And when we live this sort of a life in the flesh, we may ask many things of God, and he will give us the desire of our hearts that we may be the better prepared to serve our fellows.

(From: Evenus)
Habit, my friend, is practice long pursued, that at last becomes man himself.

*******************************************
The Sermon
***********
No matter how good you are at something, you can always get better at it when you Practice it. This is true with All things. It is true with work, with art, with sports… It is true with Love, and with Life itself.

What would it feel like to have Love as your constant companion? …no hatred, no revenge, no prejudice, no judgment… No Fear. …Simply Love. Is that possible do you think? If you Love what you do, you don't really mind Practicing it, do you? Practice just gives you more opportunity to enjoy it, right?

Are there ever times that you find it difficult to Love? I wonder if Practicing Love at those times would help?

I Wonder…

*******************************************
The Prayer
**********
Dear God,
It is easier to Love when I feel You with me… I need to practice feeling that more.

You cannot teach a man anything; you can only help him find it within himself.

(From: Francois de La Rochefoucauld (1613 - 1680)
When we are unable to find tranquility within ourselves, it is useless to seek it elsewhere.

(From: Elisabeth Kubler-Ross)
Learn to get in touch with the silence within yourself and know that everything in this life has a purpose.

(From: Belle Livingstone)
I looked always outside of myself to see what I could make the world give me instead of looking within myself to see what was there.

(From: “Jesus” - The Urantia Book - Paper-133 Section-4)
Know you not that the mystery of eternal salvation dwells within your own soul? Do you not know that the God of heaven has sent his spirit to live within you, and that this spirit will lead all truth-loving and God-serving mortals out of this life and through the portals of death up to the eternal heights of light where God waits to receive his children?

(From: Helen Keller (1880 - 1968)
The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched. They must be felt within the heart.

(From: Joseph Chilton Pearce)
We must accept that this creative pulse within us is God's creative pulse itself.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-131 Section-1)
Creation is in the Creator and the Creator in his creation. We search for the Most High and then find him in our hearts. You go in quest of a dear friend, and then you discover him within your soul.

(From: Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803 - 1882)
What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-34 Section-6)
Those who have received and recognized the indwelling of God have been born of the Spirit. “You are the temple of God, and the spirit of God dwells in you.” It is not enough that this spirit be poured out upon you; the divine Spirit must dominate and control every phase of human experience.
It is the presence of the divine Spirit, the water of life, that prevents the consuming thirst of mortal discontent and that indescribable hunger of the unspiritualized human mind. Spirit-motivated beings “never thirst, for this spiritual water shall be in them a well of satisfaction springing up into life everlasting.” Such divinely watered souls are all but independent of material environment as regards the joys of living and the satisfactions of earthly existence. They are spiritually illuminated and refreshed, morally strengthened and endowed.

(From: “Jesus” - The Urantia Book - Paper-130 Section-6)
And when you become so readjusted to life within yourself, you become likewise readjusted to the universe; you have been born again — born of the spirit — and henceforth will your whole life become one of victorious accomplishment. Trouble will invigorate you; disappointment will spur you on; difficulties will challenge you; and obstacles will stimulate you.

(From: Jean Houston)
We all have the extraordinary coded within us, waiting to be released.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-109 Section-5)
It is sometimes possible to have the mind illuminated, to hear the divine voice that continually speaks within you, so that you may become partially conscious of the wisdom, truth, goodness, and beauty of the potential personality constantly indwelling you.

(From: The Tao Te Ching - #6)
The Tao is called the Great Mother:
empty yet inexhaustible, it gives birth to infinite worlds.

It is always present within you.
You can use it any way you want.

(From: Franz Kafka (1883 - 1924)
Anything that has real and lasting value is always a gift from within.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-34 Section-6)
There truly exists within you a conspiracy of spiritual forces, a confederation of divine powers, whose exclusive purpose is to effect your final deliverance from material bondage and finite handicaps.

(From: Charlotte Bronte (1816 - 1855)
Cheerfulness, it would appear, is a matter which depends fully as much on the state of things within, as on the state of things without and around us.

(From: The KJV Bible - Luke 17: 21)
The kingdom of God cometh not with observation: Neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is within you.

(From: Rodney Yee)
As we look deeply within, we understand our perfect balance. There is no fear of the cycle of birth, life and death. For when you stand in the present moment, you are timeless.

(From: C. S. Lewis (1898 - 1963)
If we discover a desire within us that nothing in this world can satisfy, also we should begin to wonder if perhaps we were created for another world.

(From: Edward Bulwer-Lytton (1803 - 1873)
Our great object in time is not to waste our passions and gifts on the things external that we must leave behind, but that we cultivate within us all that we can carry into the eternal progress beyond.

(From: “Jesus” - The Urantia Book - Paper-133 Section-4)
Remember that the Father's spirit ever lives within you and always points your soul-direction heavenward. If you follow the unconscious leadings of this immortal spirit, you are certain to continue on in the uplifted way of finding God.

Quotes
*******
(From:
Pat Conroy (1945 - ), "The Lords of Discipline")

I wanted to become the seeker, the aroused and passionate explorer, and it was better going at it knowing nothing at all, always choosing the unmarked bottle, always choosing your own unproven method, armed with nothing but faith and a belief in astonishment.

(From: Victor Hugo (1802 - 1885)
A faith is a necessity to a man. Woe to him who believes in nothing.

(From: Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803 - 1882)
The faith that stand on authority is not faith.

(From: Reinhold Niebuhr (1892 - 1971)
Frantic orthodoxy is never rooted in faith but in doubt.

(From: Martin Luther King Jr. (1929 - 1968)
Faith is taking the first step, even when you don't see the whole staircase.

(From: Rabbi David Wolpe)
Faith is not the knowledge of what the mystery of the universe is, but the conviction that there is a mystery, and that it is greater than us.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-101 Section-8)
Belief is always limiting and binding; faith is expanding and releasing. Belief fixates, faith liberates. But living religious faith is more than the association of noble beliefs; it is more than an exalted system of philosophy; it is a living experience concerned with spiritual meanings, divine ideals, and supreme values; it is God-knowing and man-serving. Beliefs may become group possessions, but faith must be personal. Theologic beliefs can be suggested to a group, but faith can rise up only in the heart of the individual religionist.

(From: Henry S. Haskins)
Treat the other man's faith gently; it is all he has to believe with. His mind was created for his own thoughts, not yours or mine.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-102 Section-6)
Belief may not be able to resist doubt and withstand fear, but faith is always triumphant over doubting, for faith is both positive and living.

(From: The RSV Bible - Peter II 1:5-7)
For this very reason make every effort to supplement your faith with virtue, and virtue with knowledge, and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with steadfastness, and steadfastness with godliness, and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-155 Section-6)
Your religion shall change from the mere intellectual belief in traditional authority to the actual experience of that living faith which is able to grasp the reality of God and all that relates to the divine spirit of the Father. The religion of the mind ties you hopelessly to the past; the religion of the spirit consists in progressive revelation and ever beckons you on toward higher and holier achievements in spiritual ideals and eternal realities.

(From: George E. Woodberry)
If you can't have faith in what is held up to you for faith, you must find things to believe in yourself, for a life without faith in something is too narrow a space to live.

(From: The RSV Bible - Peter I 1:9)
As the outcome of your faith you obtain the salvation of your souls.

(From: Norman Vincent Peale (1898 - 1993)
Believe in yourself! Have faith in your abilities! Without a humble but reasonable confidence in your own powers you cannot be successful or happy

(From: William Hazlitt (1778 - 1830)
If you think you can win, you can win. Faith is necessary to victory.

(From: Helen Keller (1880 - 1968)
Optimism is the faith that leads to achievement. Nothing can be done without hope and confidence.

Faith is a living attribute of genuine personal religious experience. One believes truth, admires beauty, and reverences goodness, but does not worship them; such an attitude of saving faith is centered on God alone, who is all of these personified and infinitely more.

(From: Alan Watts)
Faith is, above all, openness; an act of trust in the unknown.

(From: Helen Keller (1880 - 1968)
Faith is the strength by which a shattered world shall emerge into the light.

(From: “Jesus” - The Urantia Book - Paper-191 Section-5)
“Let faith reveal your light to the world; let the revelation of truth open the eyes blinded by tradition; let your loving service effectually destroy the prejudice engendered by ignorance.”

*******************************************
The Sermon
***********
Faith is the conviction to live your daily life as if those things that you sincerely believe in are in fact, Reality. Faith is acting upon those beliefs… trying them out… testing them… proving their reality, their validity, to your own Soul… yet ever willing to discover that sometimes your beliefs may be in error and you will have to make adjustments to them. No matter… it is Truth after all that we seek rather than proof that we were right… is that not So?

Faith is the Revealer of Truth.
Let it show you yours…
