Quotes

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-152 Section-6)
Jesus taught the appeal to the emotions as the technique of arresting and focusing the intellectual attention. He designated the mind thus aroused and quickened as the gateway to the soul, where there resides that spiritual nature of man which must recognize truth and respond to the spiritual appeal of the gospel in order to afford the permanent results of true character transformations.

(From: The Book of Runes - #1 - The Self)
The starting point is the self. Its essence is water. Only clarity, willingness to change, is effective now. A correct relationship to your Self is primary, for from it flows all possible correct relationships with others and with the Divine.

Remain modest---that is the Oracle's counsel. Regardless of how great may be your merit, be yielding, devoted, and moderate, for then you have a true direction for your new way of life.

Being in the world but not of it, that is implicit here. And yet do not be closed, narrow, or judging, but remain receptive to impulses flowing from the Divine within and without. Strive to live the ordinary life in a non-ordinary way. Remember at all times what is coming to be and passing away, and focus on that which abides. Nothing less is called for from you now.

This is a time of major growth and rectification and, as a rule, rectification must come before progress. The field is tilled before the seed is planted, the garden is weeded before the flower blooms, and the self must know stillness before it can discover it's true song.

This is not a time to seek credit for accomplishments or to focus on results. Rather, be content to do your task for the task's sake. This is more a problem for those whose eyes are always on the goal than for those who have not forgotten how to play and can more easily find themselves in doing the work for its own sake. Herein lies the secret of experiencing a true present.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-2 Section-7)
Philosophers commit their gravest error when they are misled into the fallacy of abstraction, the practice of focusing the attention upon one aspect of reality and then of pronouncing such an isolated aspect to be the whole truth. The wise philosopher will always look for the creative design which is behind, and pre-existent to, all universe phenomena. The creator thought invariably precedes creative action.

(From: Oprah Winfrey )
Energy is the essence of life. Every day you decide how you're going to use it by knowing what you want and what it takes to reach that goal, and by maintaining focus.

(From: Matthias, Correction Weblog, 11-01-03 )
We get so caught up in our small daily duties and irritations that they become the only things that we can focus on. What we forget is that God's love and beauty are all around us, every day, if only we would take the time to look up and see them.

(From: Robert J. Shiller, Irrational Exuberance )
The ability to focus attention on important things is a defining characteristic of intelligence.

(From: Anthony J. D'Angelo, The College Blue Book )
Focus 90% of your time on solutions and only 10% of your time on problems.

(From: Oprah Winfrey )
The key to realizing a dream is to focus not on success but significance - and then even the small steps and little victories along your path will take on greater meaning.

(From: Arthur Golden, Memoirs of a Geisha )
A mind troubled by doubt cannot focus on the course to victory.

(From: Shakti Gawain )
As long as we focus on the outside, there will always be that empty, hungry, lost place inside that needs to be filled.

(From: Sidney Madwed )
If you want to be truly successful invest in yourself to get the knowledge you need to find your unique factor. When you find it and focus on it and persevere your success will blossom.

(From: John Haggai )
Gather in your resources, rally all your faculties, marshal all your energies, focus all your capacities upon mastery of at least one field of endeavor.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-112 Section-2)
Parts of the self may function in numerous ways--thinking, feeling, wishing--but only the co-ordinated attributes of the whole personality are focused in intelligent action; and all of these powers are associated with the spiritual endowment of the mortal mind when a human being sincerely and unselfishly loves another being, human or divine.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-100 Section-4)
Love is infectious, and when human devotion is intelligent and wise, love is more catching than hate. But only genuine and unselfish love is truly contagious. If each mortal could only become a focus of dynamic affection, this benign virus of love would soon pervade the sentimental emotion-stream of humanity to such an extent that all civilization would be encompassed by love, and that would be the realization of the brotherhood of man.

The Washington Post's Style Invitational also asked readers to take any word from the dictionary, alter it by adding, subtracting, or changing one letter, and supply a new definition.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-143 Section-2)
"By the old way you seek to suppress, obey, and conform to the rules of living; by the new way you are first transformed by the Spirit of Truth and thereby strengthened in your inner soul by the constant spiritual renewing of your mind, and so are you endowed with the power of the certain and joyous performance of the gracious, acceptable, and perfect will of God. Forget not--it is your personal faith in the exceedingly great and precious promises of God that ensures your becoming partakers of the divine nature. Thus by your faith and the spirit's transformation, you become in reality the temples of God, and his spirit actually dwells within you. If, then, the spirit dwells within you, you are no longer bondslaves of the flesh but free and liberated sons of the spirit. The new law of the spirit endows you with the liberty of self-mastery in place of the old law of the fear of self-bondage and the slavery of self-denial.

(From: The RSV Bible - Romans 12:2)
Do not be conformed to this world but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that you may prove what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.

(From: Lao-tzu (604 BC - 531 BC), The Way of Lao-tzu )
To be worn out is to be renewed.

(From: Johann Wolfgang von Goethe (1749 - 1832 )
We must always change, renew, rejuvenate ourselves; otherwise we harden.

(From: The Tao Te Ching - # 39)
In harmony with the Tao,
the sky is clear and spacious,
the earth is solid and full,
all creatures flourish together,
content with the way they are,
endlessly repeating themselves,
endlessly renewed.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-108 Section-6)
A great teacher once admonished men that they should be renewed in the spirit of their minds; that they become new men who, like God, are created in righteousness and in the completion of truth.

(From: Susan Taylor )
We need quiet time to examine our lives openly and honestly. . . spending quiet time alone gives your mind an opportunity to renew itself and create order.

(From: Pearl Buck (1892 - 1973 )
Inside myself is a place where I live all alone and that's where you renew your springs that never dry up.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-34 Section-6)
The divine Spirit is the source of continual ministry and encouragement to the children of men. Your power and achievement is "according to his mercy, through the renewing of the Spirit." Spiritual life, like physical energy, is consumed. Spiritual effort results in relative spiritual exhaustion. The whole ascendant experience is real as well as spiritual; therefore, it is truly written, "It is the Spirit that quickens." "The Spirit gives life."

(From: The RSV Bible - Corinthians II 4:16)
So we do not lose heart. Though our outer nature is wasting away, our inner nature is being renewed every day.

(From: Shana Alexander )
We strain to renew our capacity for wonder, to shock ourselves into astonishment once again.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-156 Section-5)
Believers must increasingly learn how to step aside from the rush of life--escape the harassments of material existence--while they refresh the soul, inspire the mind, and renew the spirit by worshipful communion.

(From: Anais Nin)
“It is the function of art to renew our perception. What we are familiar with we cease to see.”

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-160 Section-2)
Isolation tends to exhaust the energy charge of the soul. Association with one's fellows is essential to the renewal of the zest for life and is indispensable to the maintenance of the courage to fight those battles consequent upon the ascent to the higher levels of human living. Friendship enhances the joys and glorifies the triumphs of life. Loving and intimate human associations tend to rob suffering of its sorrow and hardship of much of its bitterness. The presence of a friend enhances all beauty and exalts every goodness.

(From: Deepak Chopra, The Path to Love )
The spiritual meaning of love is measured by what it can do. Love is meant to heal. Love is meant to renew. Love is meant to bring us closer to God.

(From: “Jesus” - The Urantia Book - Paper-147 Section-8)
“Is not this the fast I should choose: to loose the bonds of wickedness, to undo the knots of heavy burdens, to let the oppressed go free, and to break every yoke? Is it not to share my bread with the hungry and to bring those who are homeless and poor to my house? And when I see those who are naked, I will clothe them.
“Then shall your light break forth as the morning while your health springs forth speedily. Your righteousness shall go before you while the glory of the Lord shall be your rear guard. Then will you call upon the Lord, and he shall answer; you will cry out, and he shall say--Here am I. And all this he will do if you refrain from oppression, condemnation, and vanity. The Father rather desires that you draw out your heart to the hungry, and that you minister to the afflicted souls; then shall your light shine in obscurity, and even your darkness shall be as the noonday. Then shall the Lord guide you continually, satisfying your soul and renewing your strength. You shall become like a watered garden, like a spring whose waters fail not. And they who do these things shall restore the wasted glories; they shall raise up the foundations of many generations; they shall be called the rebuilders of broken walls, the restorers of safe paths in which to dwell.”

(From: Abraham Lincoln )
“Having thus chosen our course, without guile and with pure purpose, let us renew our trust in God, and go forward without fear and with manly hearts.”

(From: Buddha )
“Teach this triple truth to all: A generous heart, kind speech, and a life of service and compassion are the things which renew humanity.”

(From: Ralph Marston )
“Rest when you're weary. Refresh and renew yourself, your body, your mind, your spirit. Then get back to work.”

(From:
Sir Francis Bacon (1561 - 1626 )
They are ill discoverers that think there is no land, when they can see nothing but sea.

(From: Andre Gide (1869 - 1951 )
One doesn't discover new lands without consenting to lose sight of the shore for a very long time.

(From: Alan Alda )
The creative is the place where no one else has ever been. You have to leave the city of your comfort and go into the wilderness of your intuition. What you'll discover will be wonderful. What you'll discover will be yourself.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-101 Section-9)
The enlightened spiritual consciousness of civilized man is not concerned so much with some specific intellectual belief or with any one particular mode of living as with discovering the truth of living, the good and right technique of reacting to the ever-recurring situations of mortal existence.

(From: Pascal )
The more intelligent a man is, the more originality he discovers in men. Ordinary people see no difference between men.

(From: “Jesus” - The Urantia Book - Paper-130 Section-2)
“...no man is a stranger to one who knows God. In the experience of finding the Father in heaven you discover that all men are your brothers, and does it seem strange that one should enjoy the exhilaration of meeting a newly discovered brother? To become acquainted with one's brothers and sisters, to know their problems and to learn to love them, is the supreme experience of living.”

(From: William James (1842 - 1910 )
The greatest discovery of my generation is that a human being can alter his life by altering his attitudes of mind.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-2 Section-7)
Intellectual self-consciousness can discover the beauty of truth, its spiritual quality, not only by the philosophic consistency of its concepts, but more certainly and surely by the unerring response of the ever-present Spirit of Truth. Happiness ensues from the recognition of truth because it can be acted out; it can be lived. Disappointment and sorrow attend upon error because, not being a reality, it cannot be realized in experience. Divine truth is best known by its spiritual flavor.

(From: Galileo Galilei (1564 - 1642 )
All truths are easy to understand once they are discovered; the point is to discover them.

(From: M. C. Escher (1898 - 1972 )
He who wonders discovers that this in itself is wonder.

(From: Marcel Proust (1871 - 1922 )
We don't receive wisdom; we must discover it for ourselves after a journey that no one can take for us or spare us.

(From: Albert Szent-Gyorgyi (1893 - 1986 )
Discovery consists of seeing what everybody has seen and thinking what nobody has thought.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-132 Section-3)
Revealed truth, personally discovered truth, is the supreme delight of the human soul; it is the joint creation of the material mind and the indwelling spirit.

(From: Blaise Pascal (1623 - 1662 )
We are generally the better persuaded by the reasons we discover ourselves than by those given to us by others.

(From: The Book of Runes -#1 - The Self)
The field is tilled before the seed is planted, the garden is weeded before the flower blooms, and the self must know stillness before it can discover it's true song.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-130 Section-5)
Creation is in the Creator and the Creator in his creation. We search for the Most High and then find him in our hearts. You go in quest of a dear friend, and then you discover him within your soul.

(From: Arthur Koestler (1905 - 1983 )
The more original a discovery, the more obvious it seems afterwards.

(From: Joseph Priestley )
In completing one discovery we never fail to get an imperfect knowledge of others of which we could have no idea before, so that we cannot solve one doubt without creating several new ones.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-146 Section-3)
While you cannot observe the divine spirit at work in your minds, there is a practical method of discovering the degree to which you have yielded the control of your soul powers to the teaching and guidance of this indwelling spirit of the heavenly Father, and that is the degree of your love for your fellow men.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-100 Section-2)
Spirituality enhances the ability to discover beauty in things, recognize truth in meanings, and discover goodness in values. Spiritual development is determined by capacity therefore and is directly proportional to the elimination of the selfish qualities of love.

The Sermon
***********
Are you constantly Discovering new things about yourself and who you are?
...frequently?
...occasionally?
...seldom?
...never?

It is a personally satisfying experience to Discover...
abilities you didn't know you had...
talents that you hadn't previously Discovered...
willpower that you didn't think yourself capable of...
endurance that you considered beyond you...

Of course you can't just sit around and wait for those things to happen, Can you?
You actually have to actively attempt something that tests your abilities in order to discover New things about yourself, Right?

It's not always comfortable to put yourself out there like that... in fact it is more or less Uncomfortable. The human tendency is to avoid anything that might be the cause of discomfort.

There is a Pathway to Self Discovery. When you are willingly traveling upon it, the personal rewards are great. Indeed it draws upon your personal store of energy, both physical and spiritual, but personal Discovery is the means whereby we restore our spiritual energy.

Self Discovery is the Reward you get for challenging yourself.

Are you up for the challenge?

Greetings my Beloved Sisters and Brothers, and welcome once again to the Church that is Within. You are the Temple. You are the Congregation. Any and All Truth is the Gospel. The Divine Spirit within you is your True Minister.

In days past, I used to be able to relate to the lyrics,
“I can't Get No..............”

The topic of today's Sunday Service, #879, is Satisfaction…

*******************************************
The Sermon
***********
...but at some point in my life's Journey I realized that my own Personal Satisfaction, or lack of it, was not in any way dependent upon what others did or did not do To, or For me. It was all up to Me to provide for and achieve my Own Personal Satisfaction... it's what I do, what I accomplish, that provides me with True Personal Satisfaction. Go Figure That, huh?

Of course, the Type of Satisfaction I am referring to here is not the same as that Satisfaction that is felt while and after consuming an Extraordinary Meal, or experienced when appreciating any Other Fine work of Artistic talent. Rather do I refer to the type of Satisfaction that comes from participation in the Creating of that Extraordinary Meal or Fine Work of Art... the type of Satisfaction that one experiences from doing Anything to the best of their ability. It is a feeling of accomplishment and of personal value and purposefulness.

Any work that you do...
Any creation that you attempt...
Any activity that you choose to perform...
...Doing it as if it is a Personal Gift to Your Divine Parent will inevitably provide you with the most dependable means of attaining Personal Satisfaction and at the same time it will continually improve the quality of all the things that you do.

Get some Satisfaction!

You know where to look for it...

Quotes
*******
(From: The Book of Runes - #11 - Possessions / Nourishment / Cattle (Fehu) )

a Rune of fulfillment: ambition satisfied, love fulfilled, rewards received. It promises nourishment, from the most worldly to the sacred and Divine. For if the ancient principle “As above so below” is true, then we are also here to nourish God.

This Rune calls for a deep probing of the meaning of profit and gain in your life. Look with care to know whether it is wealth and possessions you require for your well-being, or rather self-rule and the growth of a will.

Another concern of Fehu is with conserving what has already been gained. It urges vigilance and continual mindfulness, especially in times of good fortune, for it is then that we are likely to collapse ourselves into our success on the one hand, or to behave recklessly on the other. Enjoy your good fortune and remember to share it; the mark of a well-nourished self is the willingness to nourish others.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-28 Section-6)
Service — purposeful service, not slavery — is productive of the highest satisfaction and is expressive of the divinest dignity. Service — more service, increased service, difficult service, adventurous service, and at last divine and perfect service — is the goal of time and the destination of space.

(From: Desmond Morris)
We never stop investigating. We are never satisfied that we know enough to get by. Every question we answer leads on to another question. This has become the greatest survival trick of our species.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-56 Section-10)
To finite man truth, beauty, and goodness embrace the full revelation of divinity reality. As this love-comprehension of Deity finds spiritual expression in the lives of God-knowing mortals, there are yielded the fruits of divinity: intellectual peace, social progress, moral satisfaction, spiritual joy, and cosmic wisdom.

(From: Maxwell Maltz )
We find no real satisfaction or happiness in life without obstacles to conquer and goals to achieve.

(From: William Raspberry)
Your best shot at happiness, self-worth and personal satisfaction - the things that constitute real success - is not in earning as much as you can but in performing as well as you can something that you consider worthwhile.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-134 Section-9)
[ed: referring to Jesus] He took great pains with all his handiwork and seemed to experience the satisfaction of human achievement when he had completed a commendable piece of work.

(From: Pythagoras (582 BC - 507 BC )
Rest satisfied with doing well, and leave others to talk of you as they please.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-181 Section-1)
The peace of Jesus is the joy and satisfaction of a God-knowing individual who has achieved the triumph of learning fully how to do the will of God while living the mortal life in the flesh.

(From: Sir William Osler (1849 - 1919), to his students )
Live neither in the past nor in the future, but let each day's work absorb your entire energies, and satisfy your widest ambition.

(From: Anne Frank (1929 - 1945 )
Laziness may appear attractive, but work gives satisfaction.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-39 Section-4)
There is no material reward for righteous living, but there is profound satisfaction — consciousness of achievement — and this transcends any conceivable material reward.

(From: Johnson )
The real satisfaction which praise can afford, is when what is repeated aloud agrees with the whispers of conscience, by showing us that we have not endeavored to deserve well in vain.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-4 Section-6)
God is a Father in the highest sense of the term. He is eternally motivated by the perfect idealism of divine love, and that tender nature finds its strongest expression and greatest satisfaction in loving and being loved.

(From: Wayne Dyer )
Love is the ability and willingness to allow those that you care for to be what they choose for themselves without any insistence that they satisfy you.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-34 Section-6)
It is the presence of the divine Spirit, the water of life, that prevents the consuming thirst of mortal discontent and that indescribable hunger of the unspiritualized human mind. Spirit-motivated beings "never thirst, for this spiritual water shall be in them a well of satisfaction springing up into life everlasting." Such divinely watered souls are all but independent of material environment as regards the joys of living and the satisfactions of earthly existence.
