Humor of the Week
*****************
A few days before Christmas, a six year old boy and his little three year old brother were watching families pause to look at and admire the life-size Nativity Scene that was set up outside of the local neighborhood church. After quite a while of silent observation, the three year old looks up at his big brother and asks, “Who IS that?”
Without so much as a pause, the “elder” sibling looks knowingly into his little brothers eyes and simply states, “That's Santa Clause when he was a Baby!”

(Think it Ain't? Think Again! ;-)

Welcome by: Pastor Daniel

Greetings my Beloved Sisters and Brothers, and welcome once again to the Church that is Within.

This year, Christmas being on Saturday, I decided to combine the Christmas and Sunday Service just because.

So… I thought I'd start with some of the words from a popular Christmas Song…

“He knows when you are sleeping,
He knows when you're awake,
He knows when you've been bad or good,
So…”

The topic of today's combined Christmas and Sunday Service, #430, is For Goodness Sake…

Quotes
*******
(From: Charles Spencer)

Genuine goodness is threatening to those at the opposite end of the moral spectrum.

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-2 Section-6)
The "richness of the goodness of God leads erring man to repentance." "Every good gift and every perfect gift comes down from the Father of lights." "God is good; he is the eternal refuge of the souls of men." "The Lord God is merciful and gracious. He is long-suffering and abundant in goodness and truth." "Taste and see that the Lord is good! Blessed is the man who trusts him." "The Lord is gracious and full of compassion. He is the God of salvation." "He heals the brokenhearted and binds up the wounds of the soul. He is man's all-powerful benefactor."

(From: Euripides (484 BC - 406 BC)
When good men die their goodness does not perish,
But lives though they are gone. As for the bad,
All that was theirs dies and is buried with them.

(From: Alfred A. Montapert)
The main source of our wealth is goodness. The affections and the generous qualities that God admires in a world full of greed.

The Sermon
***********
Goodness is not God. BUT… Goodness IS Most Certainly Godlike.

God Is Goodness, just as God is Love, is Truth, is Beauty.

I think that being “Good,” gets a bad rap these days. Know what I mean? Sometimes it's almost as if you're being caused to feel embarrassed if you just go about your life trying to be Good. Do you know why that is? Being Good isn't something that should be humiliating, is it? Maybe it's because there are those who Pretend goodness… sometimes it seems like there is a disproportionate number of those around. It hurts to be fooled… more especially if you've been fooled before… and who Hasn't? It makes Goodness hard to believe sometimes… But…

True Goodness is an Incredible thing to experience, is it not? …in Others? … in Yourself? Personally, I think it's Worth ANY risk of possible disappointment, don't you? Goodness is just so, Alluring… so, Appealing… so Satisfying! You do something Good with or, For someone, and it's just… The Best… isn't it? Even when you see someone do something good for another, it feels Good, doesn't it? …and when someone does something Good for You, how does that make you feel?

I just think that Goodness is Worth Trusting. The Vast Majority of people Really Are Good… at least in Intention… when given the opportunity.

Do people give you the opportunity to be Good?
Do You give Them the opportunity to be Good?

There are lots of different reasons to do or to Be Good.

For me, I think the Best reason is to…

“…be Good, for Goodness' sake.”

Be Good for the sake of Goodness!

Just Because…

Merry Christmas!

Be Good!
