Humor of the Week
It was the day after Christmas at a church in Los Angeles. The pastor of the church was looking over at the cradle in the Nativity scene when he noticed that the Baby Jesus was missing from among the figurines. He ran outside immediately and saw a little boy with a red wagon. In the wagon was the figure of the little infant.

He walked up to the boy and asked ," Well, where did you get Him, my friend ?"

The little boy replied," I got Him from the church "

" And why did you take Him ?", the pastor continued.

The little boy replied, " Well about a week before Christmas I prayed to the little Lord Jesus and told Him if he would bring me a red wagon for Christmas I would give Him a ride around the block in it. "

Greetings my Beloved Sisters and Brothers, and welcome once again to the Church that is Within.

I was musing upon what “Adam” would say on a day like today if he were still around, and then it came to me. He would say, “Merry Christmas Eve!” …and I shall do likewise.

Merry Christmas Eve!

Lo and Behold, this is our 10th Church Within on-line Christmas Service!

I thought it would be fun for this 10th anniversary Christmas Service to start with an excerpt from each of our previous Christmas Services starting with our first one in 1996… so I did, and it Was. ;-)

They are then followed by the Quotes and Sermon for 2006…

Quotes from Our Past
(From: the Christmas Service from "Church Within" 1996)
On this day that the world celebrates the birth of the Christ Child , let us give to him a gift. The greatest gift we could possibly give to the one who has everything. Let us Love each other Unconditionally and Serve each other Unselfishly as He asked us to.

(From: the Christmas Service from "Church Within" 1997)
Dearest Father [please fill in your own favorite name for the Universal Source],
Thank You for the gift of Your Child, our Master and brother. His life was such an incredible example of Supreme and loving devotion to the doing of Your Divine Will. Help us to follow in his footsteps of Love and Compassionate Service to all of our fellow beings. Give us the Courage to maintain the spirit of this season tomorrow and the next day and for the rest of our lives. Let us each be a unique revelation of Your Eternal Love to one another, and help us also to accept it in return. So very many of us feel unworthy of this precious gift that You so freely give to us. Show us the error of
this way of thinking.

(From: the Christmas Service from "Church Within" 1998)
Dear Infinitely Loving Parent,
Help me to greet each and every morning from This day forward, with the same Anticipation... Excitement... Wonder... and Love that I feel in that first aware moment of every Christmas Morning. And help me to discover the Gift of each day that You leave for me to find and unwrap.

(From: the Christmas Service from "Church Within" 1999)
I identified with the baby Jesus. Tiny, dependent, nurtured, loved. I don't think it was an accident that God chose to manifest as a child. It is as a child that I can allow my heavenly parent to care for me, nurture me, guide me and love me.

(From: the Christmas Service from "Church Within" 2000)
Jesus Loved people and people loved Him. He Cherished the Children and the Children Cherished Him. And This is why the world remembers him, This is why the world Celebrates his Birth.

He told us he would send his Spirit to dwell with us... The Spirit of Truth, of Compassion, of Love. Do you Feel it? Are you aware of it Right Now? That Spirit of acting the part of Santa Claus, of sharing your Love and of bringing Joy to others (You know the one), is but a partial reflection, a human representation, of that Loving and Giving Spirit of the one whose birth is celebrated on Christmas Day.

(From: the Christmas Service from "Church Within" 2001)
Who Loves All the Children?
Who knows if you are sleeping or awake?
Who knows if you've been bad or Good?
Who can be in every home… Who can be in Every Heart… all in one single night?
Who is the True Gift Giver?
“Who Loves ya baby?”

Ask a little child, the answer would Likely be Santa Claus, right?
Yes, yes… and it also Perfectly would describe Jesus as well… don't ya Think?
But then, who do you think was the Inspiration for Santa Claus… I mean Really?
Inspired Men? Certainly… Inspired by Whom?

(From: the Christmas Service from "Church Within" 2002)
So very little has been humanly recorded over the ages about the superb and exquisite life that followed this momentous entrance of our dearly beloved Sovereign into your world. If only you could have personally witnessed the unconditional love and benign service which characterized his life in the flesh, your world would be such a wonderfully different place than it is now at this point in time. And yet... Still, we have much hope for you. For this brief time in each year, the majority of you enter truly into the spirit of love and compassion and giving that characterized his entire life. How exquisitely marvelous would your world become if only you could, if only you Would, carry the Spirit of this Christmas Season into and throughout the coming year. You have the latent ability to do it you know... it is not in any way beyond your God Given capabilities.

If only you Would...

(From: the Christmas Service from "Church Within" 2003)
I always wondered what you could give a guy like Jesus for his Birthday (even if it's only the actual day that most people celebrate it). My mom always said, “Give Him your Love!” That worked for me. I really Did Love Him and Christmas just helped me to remember it more often!

One year… not too long ago… I thought that there should be some Other way I could give a gift to Jesus in celebration of His Birthday. What would make Him Happier than Anything Else that I could Think of besides Loving Him? AH-HAA!! I could love His Children!!! Not just Some of them… but All of them!!! The Un-loved… the Un-fortunate… the Disheartened… as Well as those that I already found to be Lovable. Love All of His Children! …can't give Him a much better birthday Present than That, can you? Can you?

The Great Gift for the One who really Does have Everything…

(From: the Christmas Service from "Church Within" 2004)
I think that being “Good,” gets a bad rap these days. Know what I mean? Sometimes it's almost as if you're being caused to feel embarrassed if you just go about your life trying to be Good. Do you know why that is? Being Good isn't something that should be humiliating, is it? Maybe it's because there are those who Pretend goodness… sometimes it seems like there is a disproportionate number of those around. It hurts to be fooled… more especially if you've been fooled before… and who Hasn't? It makes Goodness hard to believe sometimes… But…

True Goodness is an Incredible thing to experience, is it not? …in Others? … in Yourself? Personally, I think it's Worth ANY risk of possible disappointment, don't you? Goodness is just so, Alluring… so, Appealing… so Satisfying! You do something Good with or, For someone, and it's just… The Best… isn't it? Even when you see someone do something good for another, it feels Good, doesn't it? …and when someone does something Good for You, how does that make you feel?

I just think that Goodness is Worth Trusting. The Vast Majority of people Really Are Good… at least in Intention… when given the opportunity.

(From: the Christmas Service from "Church Within" 2005)
I believe that the “fruits” of our Individual and Unique “Gifts” are intended to be for the benefit of all of Creation… for the benefit of This world as well as the Next. Any time Your God Given Gift directly benefits another single person, it Indirectly benefits Many, Many Others as well… Exponentially. Every time we use our Gifts with loving intent, the World is Changed because of it. Indeed we may not be able to See the extent of the change (in fact it is likely that most will not), but never the less, it is a Reality.

The Greatest Gift that any of us can give, is the Gift of Our Self. It may or may not be a gift that all are able to appreciate… but if only even One appreciates it, then it is a gift well Given.

Give the Gift of Yourself this Christmas. The Wealthiest person on Earth is incapable of giving Anything of greater value!!!

Quotes for 2006

(From: The RSV Bible - Luke 2:6-7)
And while they were there, the time came for her to be delivered. And she gave birth to her first-born son and wrapped him in swaddling cloths, and laid him in a manger, because there was no place for them in the inn.

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-140 Section-8)
The Master came to create in man a new spirit, a new will--to impart a new capacity for knowing the truth, experiencing compassion, and choosing goodness--the will to be in harmony with God's will, coupled with the eternal urge to become perfect, even as the Father in heaven is perfect.

(From: Arthur Jersild)
Compassion is the ultimate and most meaningful embodiment of emotional maturity. It is through compassion that a person achieves the highest peak and deepest reach in his or her search for self-fulfillment.

(From: Dalai Lama, (in exile) Associated Press, 5/14/01)
It is essential to know that to be a happy person, a happy family, a happy society, it is very crucial to have a good heart, that is very crucial. World peace must develop from inner peace. Peace is not just the absence of violence but the manifestation of human compassion.

(From: Dalai Lama, The Times (1999)
Compassion and love are not mere luxuries. As the source of both inner and external peace, they are fundamental to the continued survival of our species.

(From: Martin Luther King)
True compassion is more than flinging a coin to a beggar; it is not haphazard and superficial. It comes to see that an edifice that produces beggars needs restructuring.

(From: The Dalai Lama (1935 -)
If you want others to be happy, practice compassion. If you want to be happy, practice compassion.

The Sermon
Is it true that when I feel Compassion for another that I perhaps do not even know, that it is indeed God's Love for that person that I am able to feel? It truly feels that way to me.

When you feel Compassion, do you not also feel a certain sense of Love as well?

The next time I am having any difficulty feeling God's Love… maybe it would help me to remember that.

Compassion is Love Recognized.
Love is Compassion Attained.

This Christmas, Give the Gift of Love to all whom you know and care about and the Gift of Compassion to All Others. I'm pretty sure that Jesus would consider it the best Birthday Present he'd ever been given.

The Prayer
Dear God,
Show me Your Compassion and teach me to turn it into Love.

You ALL are Within the Infinitely Loving Embrace of our Universal

The Creator's Infinite Love to all of You,
Pastor Daniel
