12-25-98 '98 Christmas Service of Church Within *******************************************
Today's Service is offered by: Pastor Daniel J. Megow

Greetings my Dearest Sisters and Brothers, and welcome once again to The Church that is Within.

Ahh... Christmas Morning! What Incredible Memories it stirs within the repository of my Soul! Does it yours? Regardless of what the rest of the day may have to offer, that very first instant of awareness that it is Christmas Day is rather Special... is it Not?

(from: the Urantia Papers - Paper-122 Section-8)
Jesus of Nazareth was born into the world, was wrapped in the clothes which Mary had brought along for such a possible contingency, and laid in a near-by manger.
In just the same manner as all babies before that day and since have come into the world, the promised child was born; and on the eighth day, according to the Jewish practice, he was circumcised and formally named Joshua (Jesus).

(from: the KJV Bible - Luke 2:10-14)
And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger. And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.

The Sermon
Of my first Christmas in 1953, I remember nothing. At least I don't think I do... one never really knows what memories may lie buried deep within us do they? I was only 12 days old but I imagine there must have been some great deal of external stimulus impinging upon my undeveloped senses that day. My entire World was an undecipherable jumble of lights and smells and sounds... that day, to Me was little different than any other.

Ah! But my Second Christmas... now That day was very Different indeed! I had had my first birthday already... I had been walking for some months now... I was all grown Up by That time. Well, I guess I Still don't remember a Whole lot about that second Christmas, but One memory is quite Vivid. I remember the elaborate Nativity Scene that was beneath the tree all aglitter with lights. The little animals and little people frozen in adoration... all looking at one thing... one thing that my own attention was immediately drawn to glowing in the soft white light of a star... a little baby Just like Me laying upon a bed of straw between his mommy and daddy. "That's the little baby Jesus." mommy told me. I Too was enthralled, just as were all the little motionless figures stationed carefully about. I recall my family singing songs to the little baby... I liked That! I was born into a family of Singers, so while music was practically an everyday occurrence in my life, somehow These songs were Different. My family Acted different when they sang them. There was a distinct Reverence about them that, while I didn't quite know what it meant at the time, I recognized the Awe and the Love that was coming forth. I don't remember anything about presents or Santa from that year... guess there just wasn't any more Room in that innocent one year old memory of mine for anything additional to the Manger scene which so captivated me that Special day.

Many Christmas's have passed since that emotion inspiring day in my life... each of them memorable in their own special way... but None moreso than that first infant encounter with the True Meaning of, and Reason for, Christmas.

The Prayer
Dear Infinitely Loving Parent,
Help me to greet each and every morning from This day forward, with the same Anticipation... Excitement... Wonder... and Love that I feel in that first aware moment of every Christmas Morning. And help me to discover the Gift of each day that You leave for me to find and unwrap.

You ALL are Within the Infinitely Loving Embrace of our Universal

The Creator's Infinite Love, through me, to all of You,
Pastor Daniel
