Quotes
*******
(From: John Caird [1880] – An Introduction to the Philosophy of Religion)
It may be said to be the essential characteristic of religion as contrasted with morality, that it changes aspiration into fruition, anticipation into realization; that instead of leaving man in the interminable pursuit of a vanishing ideal, it makes him the actual partaker of a divine or infinite life. Whether we view religion from the human side or the divine—as the surrender of the soul to God, or as the life of God in the soul—in either aspect it is of its very essence that the Infinite has ceased to be a far-off vision, and has become a present reality. The very first pulsation of the spiritual life, when we rightly apprehend its significance, is the indication that the division between the Spirit and its object has vanished, that the ideal has become real, that the finite has reached its goal and become suffused with the presence and life of the Infinite.

(From: Henrik Ibsen)
Money may be the husk of many things, but not the kernel. It buys you food, but not appetite; medicine, but not health; acquaintances, but not friends; servants, but not loyalty; days of joy, but not peace or happiness.

(From: Francis of Assisi)
Where there is charity and wisdom, there is neither fear nor ignorance. Where there is patience and humility, there is neither anger nor vexation. Where there is poverty and joy, there is neither greed nor avarice. Where there is peace and meditation, there is neither anxiety nor doubt.

(From: Welmek – July '98)
Your lives are filled with many demands and pressures, and so where is the joy? The secret of learning to live is to enjoy life. What does enjoy mean? It means to be in joy. And what is joy? Joy is a feeling of love, happiness, serenity, and exhilaration. All of these elements radiate through this gem; all are facets of this gem we call joy. As was said, you must search in your experience for what brings you joy. You must begin by answering this question for yourself. Perhaps you find barriers. Perhaps you think if you had more money or better health. Whatever it is, these things would allow you to experience more joy.         But, you see my friends, if you begin to look at life in this way, you will never find the happiness and joy because there is always something else that must be there first. It is as if you have always put up a new barrier before you allow yourself to find and experience joy. Where does joy come from? Joy comes from learning and loving.

(From: Lucius Annaeus Seneca - 5BC-65AD)
Even if it is to be, what end do you serve by running to distress.

(From: The Urantia Papers – Paper-100 Section-7)
Jesus was an unusually cheerful person, but he was not a blind and unreasoning optimist. His constant word of exhortation was, "Be of good cheer." He could maintain this confident attitude because of his unswerving trust in God and his unshakable confidence in man. He was always touchingly considerate of all men because he loved them and believed in them. Still he was always true to his convictions and magnificently firm in his devotion to the doing of his Father's will.

(From: The American Standard Bible - John 15:9-12)
"Just as the Father has loved Me, I have also loved you; abide in My love. "If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love; just as I have kept My Father's commandments and abide in His love. "These things I have spoken to you so that My joy may be in you, and that your joy may be made full. "This is My commandment, that you love one another, just as I have loved you.

(From: The Urantia Papers – Paper-130 Section-2)
And Jesus answered: "Ganid, no man is a stranger to one who knows God. In the experience of finding the Father in heaven you discover that all men are your brothers, and does it seem strange that one should enjoy the exhilaration of meeting a newly discovered brother? To become acquainted with one's brothers and sisters, to know their problems and to learn to love them, is the supreme experience of living."

(From: Welmek – June '98)
You must first see yourself as a child of God. These are words that everyone has heard, but they do not understand the true meaning. When you see yourself as a child of God, as a loving parent, you feel that love, that zest for life. You feel that if you make mistakes as a child you will be forgiven. So there is an attitude, there is an understanding in this meaning of a child of God that would help you be more forgiving of yourself. And many of your brothers and sisters do not see themselves as a child or as a child of God. They are judgmental and very hard on themselves, and are very lost. When you view yourself as this child, does it not make you feel freer? Do you not feel that if you make a mistake that your parent will still love you? There is no reason to give up this feeling, for in the universe sense you are truly just a child. To recapture, to understand the essence of this is to understand the essence of what it means to be a child of God. And that is an understanding that will make life more meaningful and loving for you.

(From: Lucius Annaeus Seneca - 5BC-65AD)
It is not because things are difficult that we do not dare; it is because we do not dare that they are difficult.

The Sermon
***********
In ten days I will have been on this planet for 47 years... so I got to reflecting, "What are some significant lessons I have learned so far in this almost 47 years of mortal life?"

One that it has taken me a significant majority of that 47 years to discover and begin to learn, is that if I Sincerely Look for something Lovable within a person, Any person, I can Invariably and Without Exception, Find it.
        You ever notice that?
Sure, you can find something Not to love about someone... that's Easy. The Significance of the discovery for me was that it is Just as Easy, Easier actually when ya get the Hang of it, to find something TO Love about others.
Being Courageously and Unselfishly Loving begets Loving Experiences... and to Experience Love is to experience Joy.

Another significant lesson I have learned is that blame, distrust, prejudice and the Fear that causes them, are the Chief Inhibitors of Love and of Joy. They are also somewhat easy to get caught up in and rather difficult to eradicate once entrenched by habit. It requires a Supreme Dedication to Love in order to dislodge them from one's Life.

Undoubtedly the Most Significant thing I have discovered in my short 47 years of existence, is that Everywhere I Look, I can discover God. And where God is, there is Love. And where Love is, there is Joy.

I choose to live a Life of Joy, a Life in Love, a Life With God.

How 'bout You?

(From: Sir Winston Churchill)
Men occasionally stumble on the truth, but most of them pick themselves up and hurry off as if nothing had happened.

(From: Dag Hammarskjold)
Life demands from you only the strength you posses. One feat is possible - not to have run away.

(From: Eleanor Roosevelt)
Life was meant to be lived and curiosity must be kept alive. One must never, for whatever reason, turn his back on life.

(From: Franklin D. Roosevelt)
The only thing we have to fear is fear itself: nameless, unreasoning, unjustified terror which paralyzes needed efforts to convert retreat into advance.

(From: Welmek – November '98)
As the light replaces the darkness within you, every situation that you see will not be in a shadow, but in its true light; it will no longer have the despair, anxiety and fear that is associated with the darkness. It will only be seen as an opportunity to grow, love and share. In time, it will be your life and be in your life forever. When you see things in the shadows of darkness say to yourself, "I see this in darkness. How can I see it in light?"

(From: Dag Hammarskjold)
The more faithfully you listen to the voice within you, the better you hear what is sounding outside. And only he who listens can speak.

(From: The Urantia Papers – Paper-130 Section-6)
“But most valuable of all, your potential of real achievement is the spirit which lives within you, and which will stimulate and inspire your mind to control itself and activate the body if you will release it from the fetters of fear and thus enable your spiritual nature to begin your deliverance from the evils of inaction by the power-presence of living faith. And then, forthwith, will this faith vanquish fear of men by the compelling presence of that new and all-dominating love of your fellows which will so soon fill your soul to overflowing because of the consciousness which has been born in your heart that you are a child of God.”

(From: The Urantia Papers – Paper-191 Section-5)
“As I have revealed the Father, so shall you reveal the divine love, not merely with words, but in your daily living. I send you forth, not to love the souls of men, but rather to love men. You are not merely to proclaim the joys of heaven but also to exhibit in your daily experience these spirit realities of the divine life since you already have eternal life, as the gift of God, through faith. When you have faith, when power from on high, the Spirit of Truth, has come upon you, you will not hide your light here behind closed doors; you will make known the love and the mercy of God to all mankind.”

(From: The American Standard Bible - John I 4:7)
Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God.

(From: Welmek – June '98)
If I were to summarize all that you have said, I would say the purpose of life is to learn, to love and to learn to love life. Imagine in your mind a triangle and the three words are learn, love and live. Now begin to see them in combination. We learn to live, we must learn to love. We must love to live. We must love to learn. We must live to learn and we must live to love. All of these interact. Each is important. Life is not complete, life is not full, life is not real if any of these are missing.

(From: Franklin D. Roosevelt)
The only limit to our realization of tomorrow will be our doubts of today. Let us move forward with strong and active faith.

(From: Eleanor Roosevelt)
You gain strength, courage, and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You must do the thing which you think you cannot do.

(From: Bruce Lee)
“As long as I can remember I feel I have had this great creative and spiritual force within me that is greater than faith, greater than ambition, greater than confidence, greater than determination, greater than vision. It is all these combined. My brain becomes magnetized with this dominating force which I hold in my hand.”

(From: Ham – Nashville TeaM 12/5/2000)
“God is an active spirit, he is not distant nor is he silent but he is close, so close as to be within you and he is ever speaking unto you that you should hear and seek after the better way that he shows forth. Take care that you pledge yourselves to him even as he has pledged himself to you and put nothing between you and him. Keep this relationship sacred.”

(From: Ernest Hemingway)
“The man who has begun to live more seriously within begins to live more simply without.”

(From: Abraham – Woods Cross TeaM 12/11/2000)
“We work for the glory of our Heavenly Caretakers. We move destiny for them. Through natural evolution they provide opportunities for us to further the Kingdom work. Circumstances with your fellows may not be what you can see with the material eye, but more perhaps felt on a soul-energy-mind level. To make rash judgments regarding your fellows is closing off the continuous flow of divine information. To relax in compassion with an eye single to the glory of God is to serve in a most effective manner.”

(From: The Urantia Papers – Paper-195 Section-10)
In winning souls for the Master, it is not the first mile of compulsion, duty, or convention that will transform man and his world, but rather the second mile of free service and liberty-loving devotion that betokens the Jesusonian reaching forth to grasp his brother in love and sweep him on under spiritual guidance toward the higher and divine goal of mortal existence.

(From: The American Standard Bible - Galatians 5:13-14)
For you were called to freedom, brethren; only do not turn your freedom into an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another. For the whole Law is fulfilled in one word, in the statement, "You shall love your neighbor as yourself."

(From: Jesse Jackson)
“It is in struggle and service with our brothers and sisters, individually and collectively, that we find the meaning of life.”

(From: The Urantia Papers – Paper-188 Section-4)
Jesus taught that service to one's fellows is the highest concept of the brotherhood of spirit believers. Salvation should be taken for granted by those who believe in the fatherhood of God. The believer's chief concern should not be the selfish desire for personal salvation but rather the unselfish urge to love and, therefore, serve one's fellows even as Jesus loved and served mortal men.

(From: The American Standard Bible - Peter I 4:8-11)
Above all, keep fervent in your love for one another, because love covers a multitude of sins. Be hospitable to one another without complaint. As each one has received a special gift, employ it in serving one another as good stewards of the manifold grace of God. Whoever speaks, is to do so as one who is speaking the utterances of God; whoever serves is to do so as one who is serving by the strength which God supplies; so that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom belongs the glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.

(From: Albert Schweitzer)
“I don't know what your destiny will be, but one thing I know: the only ones among you who will be really happy are those who will have sought and found how to serve. ”

(From: The Urantia Papers – Paper-171 Section-7)
Jesus could help men so much because he loved them so sincerely. He truly loved each man, each woman, and each child.

(From: A Bumper Sticker)
Jesus is the Reason for the Season

(From: The Urantia Papers – Paper-155 Section-3)
Increasingly they learned from Jesus to look upon human personalities in terms of their possibilities in time and in eternity. They learned that many souls can best be led to love the unseen God by being first taught to love their brethren whom they can see. And it was in this connection that new meaning became attached to the Master's pronouncement concerning unselfish service for one's fellows: "Inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of my brethren, you did it to me."

The Sermon
***********

'Tis the Week before Christmas,
        and all through the Land,
People's Thoughts are on Giving,
        isn't it Grand?

I would be willing to bet that Jesus, from his present vantagepoint, just Loves this time of year that many celebrate on our world... this time of Giving... this time of Serving... this time of Caring and Loving. Wouldn't ya Think?

Sure, there's an over-abundance of commercialism, giving out of obligation rather than love, still a more than acceptable amount of selfishness, pain remembered, stress in the moment and fear of disappointments which may or may not come. But, even though these things may yet be present in one's life at this season, still there appears, at Least once within most Every Heart and Soul, a Genuine desire to give, even if perhaps anonymously, a bit of Happiness to another or others.

Is there a better feeling in all the world than knowing you have helped to provide a moment of Happiness for someone you care about... knowing that Your Love has made a difference in their life? That feeling, in my experience, is only equaled by the feelings of Being Loved and having your Love Accepted.

Is Jesus on Your Christmas Gift Giving List?

What do you think Jesus would like for a birthday gift? Do you think about that?

Let's see... What could you give to the Person who Literally DOES have Everything?

I thought of Adoration. That's a good one. And I don't have to go out of my way too awfully much to be able to Give it and I'm sure he would Appreciate it... but then I got to thinkin'... maybe the Better Gift would be in The Way I Show him that Adoration. Now There's something to Consider...

Would he like it better...
...if I were on my knees?
...if I was deep in Meditation?
...if I were in a Church building?
...if I was out in the Beauty of Nature?

Maybe... Any and All of those are Good I guess... fairly standard, rather like a tie, but... this "still small voice" inside of me keeps repeating, "What you do for Others, you do for Me." What's That all about?
OK, I Heard it already... Is this somehow applicable to 'The Way I Show him that Adoration' or somethin'? Oh?... it has EVERYTHING to do with how I show him that Adoration? Hmmm... Now that I Think about it, that makes Perfect Sense! "What you do for Others, you do for Me." He Would like that, Wouldn't he! That Would be the Best gift I could give him! Doing things for Others out of Love... Just like He did!!! [Well... it Works for Me Anyways. ;-)]

The Truest and most Appreciated Gift you can give to Anyone... is Unconditional Love. The material gift item itself is but another form of Wrapping.

The Gift of Love---Wrapped or Unwrapped, Give it to Everyone!

Quotes

(From: The Urantia Papers – Paper-117 Section-4)
God first loves man and confers upon him the potential of immortality--eternal reality. And as man loves God, so does man become eternal in actuality. And here is mystery: The more closely man approaches God through love, the greater the reality--actuality--of that man. The more man withdraws from God, the more nearly he approaches nonreality--cessation of existence. When man consecrates his will to the doing of the Father's will, when man gives God all that he has, then does God make that man more than he is.

(From: The KJV Bible - John 4:23-24)
"But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. "God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth."

(From: The Urantia Papers – Paper-117Section-6)
Men all too often forget that God is the greatest experience in human existence. Other experiences are limited in their nature and content, but the experience of God has no limits save those of the creature's comprehension capacity, and this very experience is in itself capacity enlarging. When men search for God, they are searching for everything. When they find God, they have found everything. The search for God is the unstinted bestowal of love attended by amazing discoveries of new and greater love to be bestowed.
All true love is from God, and man receives the divine affection as he himself bestows this love upon his fellows. Love is dynamic. It can never be captured; it is alive, free, thrilling, and always moving. Man can never take the love of the Father and imprison it within his heart. The Father's love can become real to mortal man only by passing through that man's personality as he in turn bestows this love upon his fellows.

*******************************************
The Sermon
***********
Much of our world Celebrates the birth of Jesus on December the 25th... Christmas Day. Many Celebrate it with little conscious thought about Jesus, Son of God and Son of Man, whose Life, and the Way he lived it, is the whole reason we celebrate his Birth.

He Lived among us not Like a man, but AS a man... a man Dedicated to doing the Father's Will. He showed us God's Compassion, he Demonstrated to us God's Love, he Taught us that we were all God's Children and that we should Love One Another as He loved Us. He cared for the sick and the afflicted, the unloved, the forgotten; He gave Hope where there was none. He showed us how to Live in Love, how to Live with Passion and Purpose.

Jesus Loved people and people loved Him. He Cherished the Children and the Children Cherished Him. And This is why the world remembers him, This is why the world Celebrates his Birth.

He told us he would send his Spirit to dwell with us... The Spirit of Truth, of Compassion, of Love. Do you Feel it? Are you aware of it Right Now? That Spirit of acting the part of Santa Clause, of sharing your Love and of bringing Joy to others (You know the one), is but a partial reflection, a human representation, of that Loving and Giving Spirit of the one whose birth is celebrated on Christmas Day.

Today,
        Let that Spirit flow In...
        Let that Spirit Encompass...
        Let that Spirit flow Out...
...and Tomorrow, and the day after, and the next, let us do the same.
        Let it Transform Life...
        Let it Motivate Purpose...
Let it Radiate from the Core of our very Being...

It is the "Way" toward "Peace on Earth and Goodwill to Men."

Merry Christmas to All,
and to All a Good Life!

(From: The Urantia Papers – Paper-196 Section-3)
Some men's lives are too great and noble to descend to the low level of being merely successful. The animal must adapt itself to the environment, but the religious man transcends his environment and in this way escapes the limitations of the present material world through this insight of divine love. This concept of love generates in the soul of man that superanimal effort to find truth, beauty, and goodness; and when he does find them, he is glorified in their embrace; he is consumed with the desire to live them, to do righteousness.

*******************************************
The Sermon
***********
Today is the Last day of the calendar year 2000... the Last day of the 20th Century... the Last day of the 2nd Millennium A.D.

Sure... we celebrated "The New Millennium" Last year... even though Many knew that "The New Millennium" didn't Actually begin 'till 2001. But what the Heck... the Majority Wanted to. I wanted to, didn't You? The Three "E's" were High---Energy; Excitement; Expectations. The Year 2000 seemed like such a Long Awaited Milestone! It was a Grand Celebration! Even the fear of Y2K, and the Relief of surviving it pretty much entirely unscathed, added to the Thrill.
Somehow the Human race had managed to survive... to not Destroy itself... even though it had very recently (within the last half century), learned that it Could, and How to Do so. There were too many times during the last 40 or so years where our Survival as a World was in Grave Doubt. At least it Seemed as such, didn't it? Worldwide Nuclear Destruction felt almost Imminent at times, but against the odds The Human Race managed to muster just enough Wisdom, just enough Maturity, Just enough Soul, to avoid it. At least... So far.

The Last Thousand Years was rather Significant in the history of Humankind... wouldn't you Say? We discovered that the World was Round and that we are Not the Center of the Universe. We discovered Gravity and Evolution, we even discovered Air in the last thousand years. The Advances in Science, Medicine, and Technology in the last millennium (in comparison to the previous Million+ years of human history), have been Astounding. And the discoveries of just the 20th Century alone are nothing short of Miraculous!

Tomorrow is not just the Beginning of a New Year. It is the Beginning of the 21st century, and the Beginning of the 3rd Millennium.

What will it bring us? New Advances in Science, Medicine, and Technology? Undoubtedly. But will it bring us what we need the Most?

When will we as a People learn Peace?
When will we as a People learn Brotherhood?
When will we as a People learn the Value of Honesty and the Crucial Skill of Self Control?
When will we as a People learn Maturity?

2000 years ago a Very Special Person showed us "the Way" to these things. The Way of Compassion... the Way of Love... the Way of seeking God's Will, First and Foremost. We haven't really progressed all that far along THAT Way, Have we?

Many Still make War...
Many Still fear to see one another as Brothers and Sisters...
Many Still lie whenever it's convenient and try to Control Others rather than Themselves, and...
Most Still act more like Spoiled Teenagers than like Mature Adults.

Why Is that d'ya think? Is there no Answer? Is there no Solution?

Of Course there is! Ya just have to Know where to look.

The "Answer" and the Solution Dwells Within Each and Every One of us.

Look Within and let Love be your Guide.

I wish you All a Love filled New Year and a God filled Life.

We CAN make a Difference, if Only we Will...

*******************************************
