It seems the priest and pastor from the local churches of a small village are standing by the side the road pounding a sign into the ground that reads:

"The End is Near! Turn Yourself Around Now Before It Is Too Late!."

"Leave us alone you religious nuts.", yelled a driver as he sped past them. From around the curve, they next heard screeching tires and a big splash.

The priest turned toward the pastor and said, "Don't you think the sign should only say 'Bridge Out?'"

Greetings my Beloved Sisters and Brothers, and welcome once again to the Church that is Within.

How much do you crave Goodness?
Is Goodness Important to you?

How much would you be willing to give or to do just for the Sake of Goodness?

If necessary, would you be willing even to Change Yourself for Goodness Sake?

The topic of today's Sunday Service, #375, is Goodness…

Quotes
*******
(From: Josephine Hart, "Sin")
We are here to add to the sum of human goodness. To prove the thing exists. And however futile each individual act of courage or generosity, self-sacrifice or grace---it still proves the thing exists. Each act adds to the fund. It needs replenishment. Not only because evil flourishes, and is, most indefensibly, defended. But because goodness is no longer a respectable aim in life. The hound of hell, envy, has driven it from the house.

(From: Charles Spencer)
Genuine goodness is threatening to those at the opposite end of the moral spectrum.

(From: The KJV Bible - Romans 12:2)
And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

(From: Alfred A. Montapert)
The main source of our wealth is goodness. The affections and the generous qualities that God admires in a world full of greed.

(From: John Dryden (1631 - 1700)
Let grace and goodness be the principal loadstone of thy affections. For love which hath ends, will have an end; whereas that which is founded on true virtue, will always continue.

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-132 Section-2)
Goodness is living, relative, always progressing, invariably a personal experience, and everlastingly correlated with the discernment of truth and beauty.

(From: Henry David Thoreau (1817 – 1862)
Goodness is the only investment that never fails.

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-156 Section-5)
Spiritual living mightily increases true self-respect. But self-respect is not self-admiration. Self-respect is always co-ordinate with the love and service of one's fellows. It is not possible to respect yourself more than you love your neighbor; the one is the measure of the capacity for the other.
As the days pass, every true believer becomes more skillful in alluring his fellows into the love of eternal truth. Are you more resourceful in revealing goodness to humanity today than you were yesterday? Are you a better righteousness recommender this year than you were last year? Are you becoming increasingly artistic in your technique of leading hungry souls into the spiritual kingdom?

(From: The RSV Bible - Matthew 5:16)
Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.

(From: Teacher Daniel - 10/18/92– the S.E.Idaho TeaM)
Goodness is a wonderful avenue for transgressing to a higher level in human relationships. This week with those whom you meet, I ask that you recall, you search, you observe, you find some quality that will show the goodness of this person. You see, when you can begin to see the good in others, when you can understand and believe that all of your brothers and sisters manifest good, you will begin to see all life in this greater Godlike perspective.

(From: Sue Patton Thoele, The Courage To Be Yourself Journal)
At the center of each human heart is goodness, layered over with hurt, confusion, and mistaken ideas. Our task is to gently peel off layer after layer until the unfettered heart can shed its love upon the world.

Muldoon lived alone in the Irish countryside with only his pet dog for company. One day the dog died, and Muldoon went to the parish priest and asked, "Father, me dog is dead. Could ya' be sayin' a mass for the poor creature?"

Father Patrick replied, "I'm afraid not me lad; we cannot have services for an animal in the church. But there are some Baptists down the lane, and there's no tellin' what they believe. Maybe they'll do somethin' for the creature."

Muldoon said, "I'll go right away Father. Do ya' think $5,000 is enough to donate to them for the service?"

Father Patrick exclaimed, "Sweet Mary, Mother of Jesus! me lad; Why didn't ya' tell me the dog was Catholic?"

Greetings my Beloved Sisters and Brothers, and welcome once again to the Church that is Within.

When I was in Catholic grade school I thought that Communion was bread and wine… little did I know then that it was Really what came afterward in stillness with God…

The topic of today's Sunday Service, #376, is Communion…

********************************************
Quotes
*******
(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-5 Section-1)
The Father is not in spiritual hiding, but so many of his creatures have hidden themselves away in the mists of their own willful decisions and for the time being have separated themselves from the communion of his spirit and the spirit of his Son by the choosing of their own perverse ways and by the indulgence of the self-assertiveness of their intolerant minds and unspiritual natures.

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-156 Section-5)
Kingdom believers should possess an implicit faith, a whole-souled belief, in the certain triumph of righteousness. Kingdom builders must be undoubting of the truth of the gospel of eternal salvation. Believers must increasingly learn how to step aside from the rush of life--escape the harassments of material existence--while they refresh the soul, inspire the mind, and renew the spirit by worshipful communion.

(From: Eddie Myers)
Words were never invented to fully explain the peaceful aura that surrounds us when we are in communion with minds of the same thoughts.

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-5 Section-0)
Man does not have to go farther than his own inner experience of the soul's contemplation of this spiritual-reality presence to find God and attempt communion with him.

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-1 Section-7)
Man does not achieve union with God as a drop of water might find unity with the ocean. Man attains divine union by progressive reciprocal spiritual communion, by personality intercourse with the personal God, by increasingly attaining the divine nature through wholehearted and intelligent conformity to the divine will.

(From: Teacher Daniel - 9/7/97– the North Idaho TeaM)
Worshipful embrace of God is all-satisfying to the soul who seeks His company, and if that were but its only purpose stillness would be the only requirement we ask of you, for no other activity holds the value that this does. However, this is not the end, for the experience itself had a multiplying factor about it which inspires and invigorates and infuses all other experiences of your life, increasing the value of these experiences. Unbroken communion with God is an attainment you can make. I stress unbroken; it is possible for you to experience no lapse in connectivity with the Father. Already there exists His connecting link to you; half the job is done. Now do you work on your connecting link in return. Prayer is a valuable process for establishing and strengthening your link.

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-91 Section-2)
When man learned that prayer could not coerce the gods, then it became more of a petition, favor seeking. But the truest prayer is in reality a communion between man and his Maker.

*******************************************
The Sermon
***********
Communion is an Intimate and Wholehearted Sharing of yourself with another.

True Communion with God eventually, if not Immediately, yields Love, Understanding and Peace.

Got Love, Understanding and Peace?

Communion with You is the Supreme Attitude Adjustment. I just Can't be in Communion with You and have a bad attitude at the same time.

Greetings my Beloved Sisters and Brothers, and welcome once again to the Church that is Within.

I'd like to start today's Service by asking you a very personal question.

What is it that you Value more than Anything Else?

The topic of today's Sunday Service, #377, is Personal Relationships…

********************************************
Quotes
*******
(From: A. J. Toynbee)

Religion holds the solution to all problems of human relationship, whether they are between parents and children or nation and nation. Sooner or later, man has always had to decide whether he worships his own power or the power of God.

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-112 Section-2)
Everything nonspiritual in human experience, excepting personality, is a means to an end. Every true relationship of mortal man with other persons--human or divine--is an end in itself. And such fellowship with the personality of Deity is the eternal goal of universe ascension.

(From: Anthony J. D'Angelo)
Treasure your relationships, not your possessions.

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-134 Section-4)
The kingdom of heaven is neither material nor merely intellectual; it is a spiritual relationship between God and man.

(From: Rosalene Glickman, Ph.D., Optimal Thinking: How to Be Your Best Self)
Your purpose in relationships is simply to be your best self, regardless of the circumstances.

(From: Sidney Madwed)
Without relationships, no matter how much wealth, fame, power, prestige and seeming success by the standards and opinions of the world one has, happiness will constantly eluded him.

(From: Henry David Thoreau (1817 - 1862)
Not till we are lost, in other words, not till we have lost the world, do we begin to find ourselves, and realize the infinite extent of our relations.

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-103 Section-)
God the Father deals with man his child on the basis, not of actual virtue or worthiness, but in recognition of the child's motivation--the creature purpose and intent. The relationship is one of parent-child association and is actuated by divine love.

(From: Jar-El - 12/14/97– the Arcadia TeaM)
Man's relationship to God is a personal relationship; your spiritual growth, the growth of your soul, is an extremely intimate and personal phenomena. There are no guidelines for its development other than once you begin to attune to the presence of the God within, your activities will take on a nature that is compelling of knowing God, finding aspects of God in your life, and getting to know God in others.

"If I sold my house and my car, had a big garage sale, and gave all my money to the church, would that get me into heaven?" I asked the children in my Sunday school class. "NO!" the children all answered.

"If I cleaned the church every day, mowed the yard, and kept everything neat and tidy, would that get me into heaven?" Again the answer was, "NO!"

"Well, then, if I was kind to animals and gave candy to all the children and loved my wife, would that get me into heaven?" I asked them again. Once more they all answered, "NO!"

"Well," I continued, thinking they were a good bit more theologically sophisticated than I had given them credit for, "then how can I get into heaven?"

A five-year-old boy shouted out, "You gotta be dead!"

Greetings my Beloved Sisters and Brothers, and welcome once again to the Church that is Within.

This week's/year's Christmas Service concerned the giving of a personal gift to Jesus---the giving of Love to all of his children… to one another…

The topic of today's Sunday Service, #378, is Receiving Gifts…

********************************************
Quotes
*******
(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-117 Section-4)
God's gifts--his bestowal of reality--are not divorcements from himself; he does not alienate creation from himself, but he has set up tensions in the creations circling Paradise. God first loves man and confers upon him the potential of immortality--eternal reality. And as man loves God, so does man become eternal in actuality. And here is mystery: The more closely man approaches God through love, the greater the reality--actuality--of that man. The more man withdraws from God, the more nearly he approaches nonreality--cessation of existence. When man consecrates his will to the doing of the Father's will, when man gives God all that he has, then does God make that man more than he is.

(From: Frederick Buechner)
The grace of God means something like: Here is your life. You might never have been, but you are because the party wouldn't have been complete without you. Here is the world. Beautiful and terrible things will happen. Don't be afraid. I am with you. Nothing can ever separate us. It's for you I created the universe. I love you. There's only one catch. Like any other gift, the gift of grace can be yours only if you'll reach out and take it. Maybe being able to reach out and take it is a gift too.

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-131 Section-10)
"I will every day thank God for his unspeakable gifts; I will praise him for his wonderful works to the children of men.

(From: The RSV Bible - Romans 12:6-18)
Having gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, in proportion to our faith; if service, in our serving; he who teaches, in his teaching; he who exhorts, in his exhortation; he who contributes, in liberality; he who gives aid, with zeal; he who does acts of mercy, with cheerfulness. Let love be genuine; hate what is evil, hold fast to what is good; love one another with brotherly affection; outdo one another in showing honor. Never flag in zeal, be aglow with the Spirit, serve the Lord. Rejoice in your hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer. Contribute to the needs of the saints, practice hospitality. Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse them. Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep. Live in harmony with one another; do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly; never be conceited. Repay no one evil for evil, but take thought for what is noble in the sight of all. If possible, so far as it depends upon you, live peaceably with all.

(From: Thomas Hughes)
Blessed are they who have the gift of making friends, for it is one of God's best gifts. It involves many things, but above all, the power of going out of one's self, and appreciating whatever is noble and loving in another.

(From: Dr. Elizabeth Kubler-Ross)
If we could raise one generation with unconditional love, there would be no Hitlers. We need to teach the next generation of children from Day One that they are responsible for their lives. Mankind's greatest gift, also its greatest curse, is that we have free choice. We can make our choices built from love or from fear.

(From: Teacher Daniel - 12/17/93– the S.E. Idaho TeaM)
When one walks in the Spirit, when one opens up to the gifts of the Spirit, one is filled in so many different areas, so many different avenues and in so many ways that are different from your previous state. As the divine gifts fill in, those things that appear to be needed on a material or human existence often cease to be necessary.

(From: Marie Curie (1867 - 1934)
Life is not easy for any of us, but what of that? We must have perseverance and above all confidence in ourselves. We must believe that we are gifted in something, and that this thing, at whatever cost, must be attained.

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-149 Section-6)
"Humility, indeed, becomes mortal man who receives all these gifts from the Father in heaven, albeit there is a divine dignity attached to all such faith candidates for the eternal ascent of the heavenly kingdom. The meaningless and menial practices of an ostentatious and false humility are incompatible with the appreciation of the source of your salvation and the recognition of the destiny of your spirit-born souls. Humility before God is altogether appropriate in the depths of your hearts; meekness before men is commendable; but the hypocrisy of self-conscious and attention-craving humility is childish and unworthy of the enlightened sons of the kingdom.

(From: Edward Bulwer-Lytton (1803 - 1873)
"Know thyself," said the old philosopher, "improve thyself," saith the new. Our great object in time is not to waste our passions and gifts on the things external that we must leave behind, but that we cultivate within us all that we can carry into the eternal progress beyond.

(From: Ruth Ann Schabaker)
Each day comes bearing its own gifts. Untie the ribbons.

(From: Franz Kafka (1883 - 1924)
Anything that has real and lasting value is always a gift from within.

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-165 Section-5)
"You are only a small group, but if you have faith, if you will not stumble in fear, I declare that it is my Father's good pleasure to give you this kingdom. You have laid up your treasures where the purse waxes not old, where no thief can despoil, and where no moth can destroy. And as I told the people, where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.

(From: Homer (800 BC - 700 BC), The Iliad)
The glorious gifts of the gods are not to be cast aside.

(From: Gilda Radner (1946 - 1989)
While we have the gift of life, it seems to me that the only tragedy is to allow part of us to die - whether it is our spirit, our creativity, or our glorious uniqueness.

*******************************************
The Sermon
***********
'Tis the Season for Giving… Gifts of Love, Gifts of Compassion, Gifts of Thanksgiving, Gifts of Delight… Gifts from the Soul. True it is that materialism and Commercialism seem to have taken a rather firm grasp upon this season that many hold so dear… and also true is it that many get caught in the grip of “obligatory” gift giving (giving under pressure of one sort or another)… rather than giving for the pure joy of seeing another experience that sincere instant of surprise and delight. The Quality of Experience in Gift Giving is determined entirely by one's Attitude. This is true of both the gift Giver, And the gift Receiver… and it is advantageous to the fullness of the experience when the attitudes of both giver and receiver are in synchrony.

Sometimes it seems easier to give a gift than to receive one. Why Is that do you think? You've noticed it at some point or another, haven't you? Why should there be any resistance when it comes to the receiving of gifts? Is it a struggle of feeling entitled to more… or of feeling unworthy… or of evaluating the cost or the value… or of But “I” wanted something different?

Are you ever resistant to receiving God's Gifts to you? I know I am sometimes… for the Life of me I can't figure out Why. I Know I should Embrace All of God's Gifts with Childlike Open Arms… what is the difficulty? Sometimes it is impatience I admit. God's gifts, more often than not, must unfold over a period of time… they are too encompassing to be able to receive all at once, and I must continually remind myself to wait upon God's Perfect timing. When God gives a gift, it is to the benefit of many if not All… though it may appear on the surface to be directed at a specific individual. When God gives you a gift and you decline or reject it, how many others will also be deprived of sharing in the experience… and when you humbly Accept it and embrace it, how many others may be benefited now and in the future by your acceptance of God's Gifts?

Accept and Use the Gifts that the Father gives you. You are His beloved Child and it is His good pleasure to give you these things. And it's OK to tell Him what you Want, but Don't tell Him what you need… let Him Surprise you. It's a Lot more Fun!

*******************************************

All Glory and Honor is Yours, the Actual Giver of All that is True, Beautiful and Good.
