If the only tool you have is a hammer, you tend to see every problem as a nail.

Welcome by: Pastor Daniel

Greetings my Beloved Sisters and Brothers, and welcome once again to the Church that is Within.

As long as any One person can still receive benefit from any Theology, Belief System or Philosophy… that “Theology, Belief System or Philosophy” still has Supreme Value as a Tool for the Ultimate betterment of All Mankind or it would no longer exist. It need not serve me if it still serves You… it need not serve you if indeed it still serves Me. Whatsoever serves One, indeed still serves All.

The topic of today's Sunday Service, #476, is “Life Tools”…

********************************************
Quotes
*******
(From: Rod Serling (1924 - 1975)

The tools of conquest do not necessarily come with bombs and explosions and fallout. There are weapons that are simply thoughts, attitudes, prejudices -- to be found in the minds of men. For the record, prejudices can kill and suspicion can destroy, and a thoughtless, frightened search for a scapegoat has a fallout all its own -- for the children and the children yet unborn. And the pity of it is that these things cannot be confined to the Twilight Zone.

(From: Henry David Thoreau (1817 - 1862)
Men have become the tools of their tools

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-84 Section-7)
The growth of culture is predicated upon the development of the tools of civilization. And the tools which man utilized in his ascent from savagery were effective just to the extent that they released man power for the accomplishment of higher tasks.

(From: David Wilson, Director, the Museum of Jurassic Technology)
Things that don't quite make sense can be our most valuable tools.

(From: Henry Ward Beecher (1813 - 1887)
Troubles are often the tools God fashions us for better things.

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-160 Section-4)
Failure is simply an educational episode--a cultural experiment in the acquirement of wisdom--in the experience of the God-seeking man who has embarked on the eternal adventure of the exploration of a universe. To such men defeat is but a new tool for the achievement of higher levels of universe reality.

The Sermon
***********
It is SO difficult to acquire adequate tools which are appropriate to use in relationship building and family perpetuation in today's world of advancing technology, world-wide communication and Spiritual Awakening. The budding realization of the Value of "Basic Human Rights" and "Human Equality", makes many of the Old relationship/family tools of past ages obsolete, if not downright harmful, and in some cases fatal.

Here are some examples of Old tools of control and subservience which are rapidly losing their effectiveness in dealing with today's more enlightened and less easily controlled population. They worked somewhat in their time, but today they are more likely to produce anger, resentment, withdrawal, depression and too often violence. See if you don't recognize many if not all of them:

"Do as I Say!"

"Because That is your Place."

"You DO it because I SAID to!"

"Children should be Seen and not heard."

"You're gonna get a Whippin'/Beating/...!"

"Spare the rod, Spoil the child."

"It's the Wife's/Husband's DUTY to..."

"Don't Think about it, Just DO it."

"Do it because the leaders of the Church tell you to..."

"That's all you're good for."

These "tools", and yes they were tools in their time, are no longer appropriate, will not Work, and in fact are Socially and Personally detrimental to today's more aware populations. They worked in their time because they were the best tools possible at the time... men and women and children were NOT considered Equal, nor were they Treated at all equally... children's Spirits were treated as something to be Broken, as in breaking a Horse or in letting a young dog know who the boss is. Man earned a living and ruled the house as he wished and was the Universal Disciplinarian to be Feared and Obeyed... that was considered his job, Women did all the housework and bore and raised the children as Husband and Society expected them to because That's the way things were done... regretfully they were little more than sex objects and beasts of burden. Children more often did what they were told, When they were told, because the consequences were too painful... they often had little if any right to their own thoughts and desires, being labeled impertinent should they persist in displaying any. All of this was quite Normal and Acceptable for that time. Men, Women and Children somewhat Expected it even if they didn't particularly like it, and lived as comfortably as they Could within its confines.

Humankind, however, continues endlessly to grow, and with the social evolution of Equal Rights we outgrew and began breaking down the "confines" which formerly could so effectively Control the Human Spirit. Society is beginning to recognize the Barbarism of the old ways and the old tools... but it is slow in developing and offering adequate New tools and New Ways to replace the Old ones.

Now is a time of Major Transition for us and for our World. Civilization is rapidly approaching the Physical limits of our planet. It is no longer so easy to start fresh in a New Land as it once was... we can no longer isolate ourselves, but must learn Cooperation and Respect and Tolerance in order to survive. We must create and learn to use, and learn to sharpen, Spiritual Tools if we are to survive in the rapidly approaching Spiritual Age. And this is true especially in regards to Family and Relationship Tools... from the Personal relationship with our own Self, to our relationship with our Spouse, Children, Families, Society, our relationship with the whole World and the Family of Civilization, even our relationship with God.

There are so few examples of effective New Tools that are adequate to the task of developing Satisfying and Healthy Relationships in today's world because Women and Men are so recently entering into the early stages of trying to understand and desire equality in All areas of life and New Tools are essential to building Healthy, Loving and Growing Relationships that can "keep pace" with the growing understanding of humankind. People naturally crave lasting and loving relationships. The desire/need to be loved and accepted and respected drives all other human desires. One will do almost Anything to fill this most essential human need. Even today's rampant materialism and the obsession for power, fame and outward success are fuelled by the underlying human need to be loved, accepted and respected. But never do those things completely satisfy; never do they bring lasting contentment and inner peace. "What will?"

I wish I had all the answers, all the methods, all of the tools to share... but I do not. Only have I discovered a few, though incessantly I seek. Though they be few, the tools I have found and am learning to use have made a profound transformation of my life. Perhaps they will not work for others... perhaps they Will. Perhaps you have already discovered and use them... perhaps you have discovered others that work equally as well as mine do for me. If so please share them... humankind needs all the new tools it can get. So what are mine? I'll show you mine if you show me yours. I'll go first...

"I Love you because you are lovable, not because I expect anything in return."

"I love You for who you Are and, who You as a Unique child of God desire to be."

"I will neither lead nor follow you, but willingly will I walk at your side hand in hand."

"I respect your Ideals though our ideas may differ."

"Your Dreams and personal goals are just as Important as mine. Whether they be different or the same, you have my respect, support and encouragement to pursue them."

"Our Personal Paths are Individual and Unique. I cannot leave mine to walk Yours, and you cannot leave yours to walk Mine, and yet "In Love" we still may walk together."

OK... now it's Your turn...

*******************************************
The Prayer
**********
Dear God,
Give to me the “Tools” that I need to be an example of Your Perfect Love… OK then… help me to Recognize the “Tools” that I need to be an example of Your Perfect Love… Oh, alright then… remind me to pick Up the “Tools” that I need to be an example of Your Perfect Love… Hmmm, I Do? So then… show me how to USE the “Tools” that You have given me to be an example of Your Perfect Love. I desire to Serve You as a loving son serves his Loving Parent.

You ALL are Within the Infinitely Loving Embrace of our Universal

A husband was in big trouble when he forgot his wedding anniversary.

His wife told him, "Tomorrow there better be something in the driveway for me that goes zero to 200 in 2 seconds flat!"

The next morning the wife found a small package in the driveway. She opened it and found a brand new bathroom scale.

Funeral arrangements for the husband have been set for this Saturday.

Greetings my Beloved Sisters and Brothers, and welcome once again to the Church that is Within.

It is possible that I am mistaken in this (since I didn't go back and check the archives at the web-site and don't intend to), but I Think that the last time (or maybe the time before), that the Sunday Service was “Inspired” by the “card-flip-box” at my “Weekly Tuesday Music Night” over at my closest friend (and our Church Within Minister), Rick Giles house… the topic of the Service was “Allowing-Faith.” You may or may not have noticed from my Sunday Services that my “definition” of Faith “may or may not” fully be consistent with the current sociological/theological usage of the term. To me, rather than what particular “Belief System” I happen to be getting my personal Inspiration from at the moment, “Faith” is defined by “How far am I willing (or able) to 'Test' my 'Beliefs' in Real, Everyday, Life Situations?”

That being reiterated, at this Last Tuesday's “Music Night” the “cards” that came up during our “restroom flips” were FAITH (being the first card that Rick flipped), and POSITIVITY (that I inadvertently/Synchronistically? flipped to a little later). Well… “Positivity” isn't really a word that is recognized by my “spell-check” and “Thesaurus” so I am using it in the “Being In a Positive Space” kind of way.

So… I got to thinking about Faith and Positivity, and tried to see how many ways I was able to Interconnect them in ways that have personal meaning for me. I figure that if it works for Me, it's Bound to have Some type of spiritual meaning to maybe one or two others as well…

The specific “relationship” of the words Faith and Positivity that to me seemed most like it wanted to be shared this morning is the one that follows…

The topic of today's Sunday Service, #477, is “Faith with Positivity and Trust”…

Quotes
*******
(From: Real Live Preacher, RealLivePreacher.com Weblog, December 26, 2002)

We think having faith means being convinced God exists in the same way we are convinced a chair exists. People who cannot be completely convinced of God's existence think faith is impossible for them. Not so. People who doubt can have great faith because faith is something you do, not something you think. In fact, the greater your doubt the more heroic your faith.

(From: George E. Woodberry)
If you can't have faith in what is held up to you for faith, you must find things to believe in yourself, for a life without faith in something is too narrow a space to live.

(From: Norman Vincent Peale (1898 - 1993)
Believe in yourself! Have faith in your abilities! Without a humble but reasonable confidence in your own powers you cannot be successful or happy

(From: William Hazlitt (1778 - 1830)
If you think you can win, you can win. Faith is necessary to victory.

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-102 Section-6)
Belief may not be able to resist doubt and withstand fear, but faith is always triumphant over doubting, for faith is both positive and living. The positive always has the advantage over the negative, truth over error, experience over theory, spiritual realities over the isolated facts of time and space.

(From: The KJV Bible - Hebrews 11:1)
Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

(From: Helen Keller (1880 - 1968)
Optimism is the faith that leads to achievement. Nothing can be done without hope and confidence.

(From: Robert Browning (1812 - 1889)
I show you doubt, to prove that faith exists.

(From: Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803 - 1882)
The faith that stands on authority is not faith.

(From: Alexander Hodge)
Faith must have adequate evidence, else it is mere superstition.

(From: Thomas A. Edison (1847 - 1931)
Faith, as well intentioned as it may be, must be built on facts, not fiction--faith in fiction is a damnable false hope.

(From: Peter MacNichol – on the CBS show “Numbers” 12/9/05)
“Real Faith cannot transcend knowledge. It has to Adapt to it.”

(From: Henry S. Haskins)
Treat the other man's faith gently; it is all he has to believe with. His mind was created for his own thoughts, not yours or mine.

(From: The RSV Bible - Mark 10:52)
And Jesus said to him, "Go your way; your faith has made you well."

(From: Sir Francis Bacon (1561 - 1626)
Seeds of faith are always within us; sometimes it takes a crisis to nourish and encourage their growth.

(From: Richard Cardinal Cushing)
For centuries now we've tried everything else; the power of wealth, of mighty armies and navies, machinations of diplomats. All have failed. Before it's too late, and time is running out, let us turn from trust in the chain reactions of exploding atoms to faith of the chain reaction of God's love. Love - love of God and fellow men. That is God's formula for peace. Peace on earth to men of good will.

(From: Mahatma Gandhi (1869 - 1948)
You must not lose faith in humanity. Humanity is an ocean; if a few drops of the ocean are dirty, the ocean does not become dirty.

(From: Adlai E. Stevenson Jr. (1900 – 1965)
I believe that if we really want human brotherhood to spread and increase until it makes life safe and sane, we must also be certain that there is no one true faith or path by which it may spread

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-103 Section-9)
Although religious experience is a purely spiritual subjective phenomenon, such an experience embraces a positive and living faith attitude toward the highest realms of universe objective reality. The ideal of religious philosophy is such a faith-trust as would lead man unqualifiedly to depend upon the absolute love of the infinite Father of the universe of universes. Such a genuine religious experience far transcends the philosophic objectification of idealistic desire; it actually takes salvation for granted and concerns itself only with learning and doing the will of the Father in Paradise. The earmarks of such a religion are: faith in a supreme Deity, hope of eternal survival, and love, especially of one's fellows.

(From: Alfred A. Montapert)
Question: Why are we Masters of our Fate, the captains of our souls? Because we have the power to control our thoughts, our attitudes. That is why many people live in the withering negative world. That is why many people live in the Positive Faith world. And you don't have to be a poet or a philosopher to know which is best.

(From: The RSV Bible - Matthew 9:29)
Then he touched their eyes, saying, "According to your faith be it done to you."

The Sermon
***********

Faith is a Simple act in Trust.

Trust that when you step, you are going in the right direction.
...Faith steps will always take you forward.

Trust that taking the first step will always show you the next.
...Faith makes each step the First; every step the Next.

Trust that if you fall down, you may get back up & try again.
...Faith will not let you stay down for very long.

Trust that you will Succeed.
...Faith allows you to do so and entices you to try.

Trust that you have a purpose in God's plan.
        ...Faith steps reveal it.

Trust that it is more Grand than you can Possibly imagine.
...Faith creates the opportunity for delightful surprises.

Trust that you are Cared for and Loved and will be Guided.
...Faith Proves that it is True.

Belief is intellectual... Faith is Experiential.

Belief "knows" it... Faith lives it.

Faith can move a Mountain...

…even if it is but one pebble or grain of sand at a time.

Act with Faith.
Act In Faith.

Be Positive Of your Faith
Be Positive With your Faith.
Be Positive In your Faith.

Positive Living Faith tried and tested Through Personal Experience reveals Truth.
Trust the Truth that Your Personal Experience Discovers with Faith.
…even though it may differ from the initial expectations of your Faith.
…even though it may require adjustments in your Faith.

Let not your Faith become stationary like the stagnant pond… it may well die.
Rather…

Let your Faith be like the Flowing River… Fluid, in Motion, Alive and Thriving.

Be Positive that the True Unseen Source of your Faith wishes you All of those things that will help to bring you to your very Highest Potential. Then let your Faith go to work for you. Let it Do for you what it is Truly Capable of doing for you. Don't worry so much about being right or wrong. Your Faith will show you what is “Right” for You if you allow it the freedom to do so. The “wrong for you” can just be let go of… allowed to float away on the currents that are not taking you in your optimum direction.

I am reminded of Jesus' Parable of the “Talents” where two of the Stewards Invested the talents that were given to them by their lord and made a “profit” with them, whereas the third steward did nothing but preserve exactly what he was entrusted with by burying it. If you are familiar with this parable you will remember that his “lord” was quite displeased with him (to say the least).

I must ask myself, “Am I like the 'good and faithful stewards'---Investing my Faith… allowing it to Increase and Grow and Prosper beyond what was given to me---or am I like the “other” steward?” “Am I living up to my own unique 'greatest potential' and discovering new understandings of Truth or am I content with merely trying to mimic those discovered by others?” I know which answers I would Prefer to give to those questions. Can I in Truth?

“Faith with Positivity and Trust” Yeah… That works. It works for Me anyway…

Does it work for you?

*******************************************
The Prayer
**********
Dear God,
My Faith in You has repeatedly shown me that it is not Your primary intention to fulfill my expectations, but to surpass them… not to give me what my ego wants, but what my Soul Craves and what my Spirit Seeks. In retrospect from where I “Stand” right now, I can honestly say that I am not disappointed with what You have shown me so far, nor do I anticipate any “lasting” disappointment from what You intend to show me from now On. I am Positive that Your Perfect Wisdom knows better than I what is Best for me. I Trust that with All of my Faith.

You ALL are Within the Infinitely Loving Embrace of our Universal

Greetings my Beloved Sisters and Brothers, and welcome once again to the Church that is Within.

I have a tendency to talk more about ego and Soul than I do about Spirit so I thought I'd give you my take on Spirit today…

The topic of today's Sunday Service, #478, is Spiritual/Spirituality/Spirit…

********************************************
Quotes
*******
(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-100 Section-2)
Spirituality becomes at once the indicator of one's nearness to God and the measure of one's usefulness to fellow beings. Spirituality enhances the ability to discover beauty in things, recognize truth in meanings, and discover goodness in values. Spiritual development is determined by capacity therefor and is directly proportional to the elimination of the selfish qualities of love.

(From: Deepak Chopra, The Path to Love)
The spiritual meaning of love is measured by what it can do. Love is meant to heal. Love is meant to renew. Love is meant to bring us closer to God.

(From: Denis Waitley)
Happiness is the spiritual experience of living every minute with love, grace and gratitude.

(From: Martin Luther King Jr. (1929 - 1968)
If we are to go forward, we must go back and rediscover those precious values -- that all reality hinges on moral foundations and that all reality has spiritual control.

(From: Buddha (563 BC - 483 BC)
Just as a candle cannot burn without fire, men cannot live without a spiritual life.

(From: John F. Kennedy (1917 - 1963)
This country cannot afford to be materially rich and spiritually poor.

(From: Martin Luther King Jr. (1929 - 1968), Strength to Love, 1963)
Our scientific power has outrun our spiritual power. We have guided missiles and misguided men.

(From: Shakti Gawain)
Every time you don't follow your inner guidance, you feel a loss of energy, loss of power, a sense of spiritual deadness.

(From: Kahlil Gibran (1883 - 1931), The Broken Wings)
I am one of those who believe that spiritual progress is a rule of human life, but the approach to perfection is slow and painful.

(From: Denis Waitley)
Happiness is the spiritual experience of living every minute with love, grace and gratitude.

(From: Stephen Covey)
We are not human beings on a spiritual journey. We are spiritual beings on a human journey.

(From: William Henry Channing)
To live content with small means, to seek elegance rather than luxury, and refinement rather than fashion, to be worthy, not respectable, and wealthy, not rich, to study hard, think quietly, talk gently, act frankly, to listen to stars and birds, to babes and sages, with open heart, to bear all cheerfully, do all bravely, await occasions, hurry never, in a word to let the spiritual, unbidden and unconscious, grow up through the common, this is to be my symphony.

(From: The RSV Bible - John 3:6)
That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Do not marvel that I said to you, 'You must be born anew.' The wind blows where it wills, and you hear the sound of it, but you do not know whence it comes or whither it goes; so it is with every one who is born of the Spirit."

(From: The Tao Te Ching - #55)
The Master's power is like this.
He lets all things come and go effortlessly, without desire.
He never expects results; thus he is never disappointed.
He is never disappointed; thus his spirit never grows old.

(From: Albert Einstein (1879 - 1955)
The further the spiritual evolution of mankind advances, the more certain it seems to me that the path to genuine religiosity does not lie through the fear of life, and the fear of death, and blind faith, but through striving after rational knowledge.

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-196 Section-3)
God is not the mere invention of man's idealism; he is the very source of all such superanimal insights and values. God is not a hypothesis formulated to unify the human concepts of truth, beauty, and goodness; he is the personality of love from whom all of these universe manifestations are derived. The truth, beauty, and goodness of man's world are unified by the increasing spirituality of the experience of mortals ascending toward Paradise realities. The unity of truth, beauty, and goodness can only be realized in the spiritual experience of the God-knowing personality.

(From: John Stuart Mill (1806 - 1873)
The only freedom which deserves the name is that of pursuing our own good in our own way, so long as we do not attempt to deprive others of theirs, or impede their efforts to obtain it. Each is the proper guardian of his own health, whether bodily, or mental or spiritual. Mankind are greater gainers by suffering each other to live as seems good to themselves, than by compelling each to live as seems good to the rest.

(From: Denis Waitley)
Happiness is the spiritual experience of living every minute with love, grace and gratitude.

(From: Albert Schweitzer (1875 - 1965)
Reverence for life brings us into a spiritual relation with the world which is independent of all knowledge of the universe.

(From: M. Scott Peck)
Everything that happens in life is there to aid our spiritual growth.

(From: Darren John Main, Yoga and the Path of the Urban Mystic)
As I have practiced yoga in the quest for inner peace I have found that my spiritual practice doesn't end when I leave the yoga mat. That is the beginning. While having a time of quiet each day is essential for our spiritual health, it is what we do in the world that propels us forward as individuals and as a society.

(From: Veronica - 9/15/94 – The Volcaho, HI TeaM)
Behavioral change and spiritual growth go hand in hand, but you must provide ample opportunity and be open to learn. Think righteously, act lovingly, and speak gently; and you will become perceptive of intuitive knowing. Examine your daily habits to see, by virtue of frequency, which ones you place a great deal of importance on by how often you repeat the behavior. Can any be replaced by actions of increased value?

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-100 Section-2)
The goal of human self-realization should be spiritual, not material. The only realities worth striving for are divine, spiritual, and eternal. Mortal man is entitled to the enjoyment of physical pleasures and to the satisfaction of human affections; he is benefited by loyalty to human associations and temporal institutions; but these are not the eternal foundations upon which to build the immortal personality which must transcend space, vanquish time, and achieve the eternal destiny of divine perfection and finaliter service.
Jesus portrayed the profound surety of the God-knowing mortal when he said: "To a God-knowing kingdom believer, what does it matter if all things earthly crash?" Temporal securities are vulnerable, but spiritual sureties are impregnable. When the flood tides of human adversity, selfishness, cruelty, hate, malice, and jealousy beat about the mortal soul, you may rest in the assurance that there is one inner bastion, the citadel of the spirit, which is absolutely unassailable; at least this is true of every human being who has dedicated the keeping of his soul to the indwelling spirit of the eternal God.
After such spiritual attainment, whether secured by gradual growth or specific crisis, there occurs a new orientation of personality as well as the development of a new standard of values.

(From: Denis Waitley)
Happiness is the spiritual experience of living every minute with love, grace and gratitude…

You may have noticed that I did indeed use the same quote from David Waitley more than a couple of times. (If You Didn't… better go back and start over… not Everything I do is without purpose ;-).

So… I got to thinkin'… could I use the same words that Dennis gave us (only in a different order), to say something equally poignant but from a somewhat different perspective… perhaps even as if “Seeing it with a different pair of Glasses.”

Well… here's what I came up with…

Spiritual Happiness is the experience of living every minute with love, grace and gratitude…
Or how about…
The Spiritual Experience of living every minute with love, grace and gratitude is Happiness…
Maybe…
Living every minute with love, grace and gratitude, Is the Experience of, Spiritual Happiness…

Experience Happiness.
Spiritually Live…
Every Minute…
with Love…
Grace…
And Gratitude…

Carry On my Spiritual Brothers and Sisters!
You HAVE that Ability!!!

. As I turn on the hose in the driveway, I look over at my car and decide my car needs washing.

. As I start toward the garage, I notice that there is mail on the porch table that I brought up from the mail box earlier.

. I decide to go through the mail before I wash the car.

. I lay my car keys down on the table, put the junk mail in the garbage can under the table, and notice that the can is full.

. So, I decide to put the bills back on the table and take out the garbage first.

. But then I think, since I'm going to be near the mailbox when I take out the garbage anyway, I may as well pay the bills first. I take my check book off the table, and see that there is only 1 check left.

. My extra checks are in my desk in the study, so I go inside the house to my desk where I find the can of Coke that I had been drinking.

. I'm going to look for my checks, but first I need to push the Coke aside so that I don't accidentally knock it over I see that the Coke is getting warm, and I decide I should put it in the refrigerator to keep it cold.

. As I head toward the kitchen with the Coke, a vase of flowers on the counter catches my eye--they need to be watered.

. I set the Coke down on the counter, and I discover my reading glasses that I've been searching for all morning.

. I decide I better put them back on my desk, but first I'm going to water the flowers.

. I set the glasses back down on the counter, fill a container with water and suddenly I spot the TV remote. Someone left it on the kitchen table.

. I realize that tonight when we go to watch TV, I will be looking for the remote, but I won't remember that it's on the kitchen table, so I decide to put it back in the den where it belongs, but first I'll water the flowers.

. I pour some water in the flowers, but quite a bit of it spills on the floor.

. So, I set the remote back down on the table, get some towels and wipe up the spill.

. Then, I head down the hall trying to remember what I was planning to do.

. At the end of the day:

* the car isn't washed

* the bills aren't paid

* there is a warm can of Coke sitting on the counter

* the flowers don't have enough water,

* there is still only 1 check in my check book,

* I can't find the remote,

* I can't find my glasses,

* and I don't remember what I did with the car keys.

. Then, when I try to figure out why nothing got done today, I'm really baffled because I know I was busy all day long, and I'm really tired.

. I realize this is a serious problem, and I'll try to get some help for it, but first I'll check my e-mail.

. Do me a favor, will you? Forward this message to everyone you know, because I don't remember to whom it has been sent.

Don't laugh -- if this isn't you yet, your day is coming!!

Greetings my Beloved Sisters and Brothers, and welcome once again to the Church that is Within.

We've been doing a Christmas Services for 9 years now---since Dec. 25
th of 1996. You would'a thought that we would have had at least One Christmas day fall on a Sunday in that many years, but NoOoo. This is our very first Sunday Service that has actually fallen right on Christmas Day! (alright… alright… I cheated a little last year and just did one Service for both Christmas and Sunday… but that was because Christmas fell on Saturday, and I sent it Out real late… ;-).

When the Topic for Today's Sunday Christmas Service “invaded” my mind I thought, “I Know I must have done That one before…” and so I went to our Sunday Service Archives at the web-site and checked out all of our past Christmas Services since 1996, starting at 2004 and working backwards. I got all the way back to 1996 before I found one that had the same overall topic as the one I was contemplating for This Christmas. The “Usage” of the word in '96 was rather different, though a fair number of associated thoughts from '96 were practically Identical with what I was thinking right now. OH Well… I decided to use our 1996 Christmas Service (The Church Within's First one), as today's Quote. [You know… the old “two birds with one stone” thing?] So….

The topic of today's Christmas-Sunday Service, #479, is Christmas Gifts…

(From: The Christmas Service of the "Church Within" 12-25-96
On this day that most of the world unites to celebrate the birth of our Master Jesus, let us remember the real importance of the life that He lived on this planet. Jesus experienced human life as lived by each and every one of us. This Divine Son of God came into this world as a helpless infant, totally dependent on the love and nurturing of his human parents. When he was hungry, they fed him. When he was dirty, they cleaned him.

When he was tired, he was laid to sleep. Every necessity of human life had to be provided for him as is the case with all human babies. His family was not rich in material pleasures. His first bed was a manger, a trough where animals were fed. His first meal was at his mother's breast. A blanket was his first clothing. The Prince of Peace was born, not into a wealthy royal family, but into a poor one. From this humble beginning, The Son of God and The Son of Man began his life as one of us.

He experienced joy and sorrow as do we. He had to learn to survive in the human world, the same as any other child, and yet, he grew to be the greatest man who ever walked the face of this strife torn planet. Certainly he was the Son of God, yet are not each one of us also God's children? He knew that God was his Father... should we not also? He loved unconditionally and served unselfishly. This is what He would have us learn from his life among us. He once said: "Love one another as I have loved you." and "He who would be greatest among you, let him be server of all." Should this not be the purpose of our lives, our supreme privilege?

On this day that the world celebrates the birth of the Christ Child , let us give to him a gift. The greatest gift we could possibly give to the one who has everything. Let us Love each other Unconditionally and Serve each other Unselfishly as He asked us to.

The Sermon
***********
So anyways… when I got to meditating about what the topic of Christmas Service 2005 would be… Right into my mind popped “Gifts” and so I thought, “OK, what do you give to the guy who has Everything… what do you give to Jesus for his birthday?” I sidetracked a bit (I presumed), and started thinking about how much I enjoyed seeing others use and enjoy the gifts I had thought deeply about and given to them.

From there my mind suddenly jumped to contemplating the Gifts that He had given to Me, and then… is He seeing me use and enjoy those gifts? Is He getting from me the Enjoyment that I receive from experiencing the joy of others using the gifts I have given to them??

I tend to think that the “Gifts” I have been given to use in my life here on earth were not intended to be exclusively for just me alone. They weren't given to me so that my ego could get stroked when someone said, “Oh you have such a Gift!” …or so that I could use my “Gift's” in isolation for my own personal pleasure and satisfaction.

I believe that the “fruits” of our Individual and Unique “Gifts” are intended to be for the benefit of all of Creation… for the benefit of This world as well as the Next. Any time Your God Given Gift directly benefits another single person, it Indirectly benefits Many, Many Others as well… Exponentially. Every time we use our Gifts with loving intent, the World is Changed because of it. Indeed we may not be able to See the extent of the change (in fact it is likely that most will not), but never the less, it is a Reality.

The Greatest Gift that any of us can give, is the Gift of Our Self. It may or may not be a gift that all are able to appreciate… but if only even One appreciates it, then it is a gift well Given.

Give the Gift of Yourself this Christmas. The Wealthiest person on Earth is incapable of giving Anything of greater value!!!

The Prayer

Dear God,
Whatever it is that I have that I can give, it is Only because First, You have given it to me.

You ALL are Within the Infinitely Loving Embrace of our Universal
Parent,

The Creator's Infinite Love to all of You,
