Nine-year-old Joey was asked by his mother what he had learned in Sunday School.

"Well, Mom, our teacher told us how God sent Moses behind enemy lines on a rescue mission to lead the Israelites out of Egypt . When he got to the Red Sea , he had his army build a pontoon bridge and all the people walked across safely. Then he radioed headquarters for reinforcements. They sent bombers to blow up the bridge and all the Israelites were saved."

"Now, Joey, is that really what your teacher taught you?" his Mother asked.

"Well, no, Mom, but, if I told it the way the teacher did, you'd never believe it!"

The topic of today's Sunday Service, #841, is Giving…

*******************************************
The Sermon
***********
It is the season that many if not most in our world see as a uniquely special time for Giving.

The little child of course does not naturally understand this seasonal concept of gift Giving because their focus is more unsurprisingly concentrated upon the excitement of receiving. In fact, is it not the children's thrill and their joy at receiving that inspires so many to take pleasure in the practice of Giving? But what Is entirely natural to the little child is the Giving of Love. It is the gift that they so abundantly possess and so freely Give. So simple and yet so Prized and Valued... this gift of Love that they share with us in return for our Giving to them.

It is not only Giving to children that gives us pleasure, in fact it extends to All of those that we Love and care about... doesn't it? Giving, and having it be appreciated by our friends and loved ones is one of life's greatest joys! Not Giving out of any sense of obligation nor with any concern for payback or to even up a perceived balance, but just the Giving out of our Love for them.

Giving to those with less, Giving to those in need, Giving to those forgotten... this too gives us an internal satisfaction... knowing that perhaps we have helped another of God's Children in some way. Giving allows us to share God's Love with one another.

However you Give this season, make sure that there is Love in all your Giving.

If you knew what I know about the power of giving, you would not let a single meal pass without sharing it in some way.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-28 Section-6)
All of this magnificent creation, including yourself, was not made just for you. This is not an egocentric universe. The Gods have decreed, “It is more blessed to give than to receive,” and said your Master Son, “He who would be greatest among you let him be server of all.”

(From: Damien Hess)
Service...
Giving what you don't have to give.
Giving when you don't need to give.
Giving because you want to give.

(From: “Jesus” - The Urantia Book - Paper-157 Section-2)
And when the feelings of service for your fellow men arise within your soul, do not stifle them; when the emotions of love for your neighbor well up within your heart, give expression to such urges of affection in intelligent ministry to the real needs of your fellows.”

(From: Chuck Colson, Radio Broadcast on 10/3 and 10/4)
You find the meaning in life by giving yourself away not by satisfying yourself. The most gratifying thing, at 73 years old, is to be able to think that your life was used to help others.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-25 Section-4)
As you journey toward your Paradise goal, constantly acquiring added knowledge and enhanced skill, you are continuously afforded the opportunity to give out to others the wisdom and experience you have already accumulated;

(From: Maya Angelou)
I have found that among its other benefits, giving liberates the soul of the giver.

(From: Lao-Tzu (604 BC - 531 BC)
Kindness in words creates confidence. Kindness in thinking creates profoundness. Kindness in giving creates love.

(From: Sheldon Kopp)
In the long run, we get no more than we have been willing to risk giving.

(From: Joyce Grenfell)
I have come to believe that giving and receiving are really the same. Giving and receiving - not giving and taking.

(From: “Jesus” - The Urantia Book - Paper-140 Section-9)
Liberate spiritual captives, comfort the oppressed, and minister to the afflicted. Freely you have received, freely give.”

(From: Baltasar Gracian)
The great art of giving consists in this: the gift should cost very little and yet be greatly coveted, so that it may be the more highly appreciated.

(From: Socrates (469 BC - 399 BC)
Get not your friends by bare compliments, but by giving them sensible tokens of your love.

(From: Walt Whitman (1819 - 1892)
The habit of giving only enhances the desire to give.

(From: Og Mandino (1923 - 1996)
Realize that true happiness lies within you. Waste no time and effort searching for peace and contentment and joy in the world outside. Remember that there is no happiness in having or in getting, but only in giving. Reach out. Share. Smile. Hug.

(From: Mother Teresa (1910 - 1997)
It's not how much we give, but how much love we put into giving.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-1 Section-1)
The affectionate dedication of the human will to the doing of the Father's will is man's choicest gift to God; in fact, such a consecration of creature will constitutes man's only possible gift of true value to the Paradise Father. In God, man lives, moves, and has his being; there is nothing which man can give to God except this choosing to abide by the Father's will, and such decisions, effected by the intelligent will creatures of the universes, constitute the reality of that true worship which is so satisfying to the love-dominated nature of the Creator Father.

I have no idea when the last time I did the Sunday Service with the same topic as today's... In the 841 previous Sunday Services, I feel I Must have used it before... likely Many times... it could be quite recently, then again maybe I Haven't used it before (“it” of course being in reference to the specific “Topic Word” ...the overall Concept should seem quite familiar to those of you who actually follow these services with any semblance of regularity). Well... let's just see where it takes us Today, shall we?...

The topic of today's Sunday Service, #842, is Kindness…

Quotes
*******
(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-2 Section-4)
God is inherently kind, naturally compassionate, and everlastingly merciful. And never is it necessary that any influence be brought to bear upon the Father to call forth his loving-kindness. The creature's need is wholly sufficient to insure the full flow of the Father's tender mercies and his saving grace. Since God knows all about his children, it is easy for him to forgive. The better man understands his neighbor, the easier it will be to forgive him, even to love him.

(From: The ASB Bible - Colossians 3:12-14)
So, as those who have been chosen of God, holy and beloved, put on a heart of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience; bearing with one another, and forgiving each other, whoever has a complaint against anyone; just as the Lord forgave you, so also should you. Beyond all these things put on love, which is the perfect bond of unity.

(From: Stephan Grellet)
“I expect to pass through this world but once; any good thing therefore that I can do, or any kindness that I can show to any fellow creature, let me do it now; let me not defer or neglect it, for I shall not pass this way again.”

(From: Mother Teresa of Calcutta)
“Spread love everywhere you go: First of all in your own house... let no one ever come to you without leaving better and happier. Be the living expression of God's kindness; kindness in your face, kindness in your eyes, kindness in your smile,”

(From: Dalai Lama)
“This is my simple religion. There is no need for temples; no need for complicated philosophy. Our own brain, our own heart is our temple; the philosophy is kindness.”

(From: Aesop)
“No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted.”

(From: Scott Adams)
“Remember there's no such thing as a small act of kindness. Every act creates a ripple with no logical end.”

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-140 Section-3)
In kindness and with mercy minister to all who are in distress and in need.

(From: St. Basil)
“A tree is known by its fruit; a man by his deeds. A good deed is never lost; he who sows courtesy reaps friendship, and he who plants kindness gathers love.”

(From: The RSV Bible - Galatians 5:22-23)
... the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such there is no law.

(From: Lao Tzu)
“Kindness in words creates confidence. Kindness in thinking creates profoundness. Kindness in giving creates love.”

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-103 Section-2)
The first promptings of a child's moral nature have not to do with sex, guilt, or personal pride, but rather with impulses of justice, fairness, and urges to kindness — helpful ministry to one's fellows.

(From: Franklin D. Roosevelt)
“Human kindness has never weakened the stamina or softened the fiber of a free people.”

(From: Publius Cornelius Tacitus)
“You can accomplish by kindness what you cannot by force.”

(From: Albert Schweitzer)
“Constant kindness can accomplish much. As the sun makes ice melt, kindness causes misunderstanding, mistrust, and hostility to evaporate.”

(From: Aristotle)
“It is the characteristic of the magnanimous man to ask no favor but to be ready to do kindness to others.”

(From: Unknown)
“Kindness is more than deeds. It is an attitude, an expression, a look, a touch. It is anything that lifts another person.”

(From:
Mark Twain)

“Kindness is a language which the deaf can hear, and the blind can read”

(From: Henry David Thoreau)
“The kindness I have longest remembered has been of this sort, the sort unsaid; so far behind the speaker's lips that almost it already lay in my heart. It did not have far to go to be communicated.”

(From: Jean-Jacques Rousseau)
“What wisdom can you find that is greater than kindness?”

*******************************************
The Sermon
***********
Kindness...

Everyone wants it.
Everyone Deserves it.

Not everyone shows it.
Not everyone receives it.

Kindness is an expression of Love... a result of Compassion.
Kindness inspires the soul... Lifts the Spirit.

To those who are more typically shown meanness, Kindness can be hard to trust... difficult to believe... unbearable to expect. Perhaps they were wrongly taught that Kindness is a weakness... a limitation... a vulnerability. How sad, how unfortunate, how tragic when ignorance imposes that misperception upon an otherwise innocent other...especially upon the sincerely trusting innocence of a child. These most especially are in need of unconditional Kindness... Kindness is impossible to bestow in excess.

Kindness follows the Kind... it cannot be given away, only shared.

Kindness...
Never refuse it...
Never withhold it...
Never put limits upon it.

Kindness...
Freely Receive it...
Freely Bestow it.

The world becomes a better place because of it.

Greetings my Beloved Sisters and Brothers, and welcome once again to the Church that is Within. You are the Temple. You are the Congregation. Any and All Truth is the Gospel. The Divine Spirit within you is your True Minister.

Here's something worth thinking about...

The topic of today's Sunday Service, #843, is being Dedicated…

*******************************************
The Sermon
***********
Do you see yourself as being a Dedicated person?
How Dedicated?

Totally?
Extremely?
Very?

Mostly?
Fairly?
Somewhat?

Slightly?
Not very?
Not at all?
Now of course one's level of Dedication might be influenced somewhat by exactly What in particular they are Dedicated To...

God...
Family...
Friends...

Service...
Art...
Work...

Church...
Truth...
Justice...

Wealth...
Power...
Position...

One can be Totally Dedicated to one or more of these and only Slightly Dedicated to others... Fairly Dedicated to some and not at all Dedicated to many. There are instances where someone may Say that they are Dedicated to one thing, but in practice it may appear that they are Dedicated to something else entirely... they may even Think that they are Extremely Dedicated to certain things, but their actions portray a different reality.

Being Dedicated to Some things (for example, God, Family, Friends), makes it more likely that one can and will be Dedicated to other things as well. But a dedication to certain things (in particular, wealth, power, position), can make it impossible to be truly Dedicated to Anything else at all.

Who or what are You Dedicated to?
How Dedicated Are you?
Do your actions live up to your expectations?

It's good to ask yourself these questions from time to time... ponder your answers... and of course make personal adjustments as necessary...

When the flood tides of human adversity, selfishness, cruelty, hate, malice, and jealousy beat about the mortal soul, you may rest in the assurance that there is one inner bastion, the citadel of the spirit, which is absolutely unassailable; at least this is true of every human being who has dedicated the keeping of his soul to the indwelling spirit of the eternal God.

(From: Henry Miller 1891-1980)
“True strength lies in submission which permits one to dedicate his life, through devotion, to something beyond himself.”

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-1 Section-1)
The affectionate dedication of the human will to the doing of the Father's will is man's choicest gift to God

“The hope of a secure and livable world lies with disciplined nonconformists who are dedicated to justice, peace and brotherhood.”

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-132 Section-7)
That which the enlightened and reflective human imagination of spiritual teaching and leading wholeheartedly and unselfishly wants to do and be, becomes measurably creative in accordance with the degree of mortal dedication to the divine doing of the Father's will. When man goes in partnership with God, great things may, and do, happen.

It is for us the living, rather, to be dedicated here to the unfinished work which they who fought here have thus far so nobly advanced.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-165 Section-5)
Let me assure you, once and for all, that, if you dedicate your lives to the work of the kingdom, all your real needs shall be supplied. Seek the greater thing, and the lesser will be found therein; ask for the heavenly, and the earthly shall be included.

Love...
It is the Only True Currency.
It is the Only True Wealth.
It is the Only True Personal Satisfaction.

Material Wealth cannot buy it... Power cannot enforce it...
It is truly sad that so many cannot or will not recognize that.

To Love another/others...
There is no more inherent human inclination.
There is no more common inner desire.
There is no more universal human need.

Everyone, whether they know it, or will admit it to themselves or not, has an uncontrollable urge to Love. It is an instinctive part of being Human, an intrinsic aspect of all Personality. Everybody wants to Love... everybody Needs to Love. To Love is to Truly Live.

Everybody Wants to Be Loved... everybody Needs to Be Loved. I'm thinkin' we all Know it and perhaps, will even admit it... to ourselves at least. One who knows Love knows also God, because God is Love. One need not intellectually believe in “God” in order to in reality, Know God... through Love.

Love is Everywhere... one need only to tap into it and to share it.
Love!

Fear can block it, fear can deflect it, fear can reject it.
Fear Not!
Be Loved!!

“In the experience of finding the Father in heaven you discover that all men are your brothers, and does it seem strange that one should enjoy the exhilaration of meeting a newly discovered brother? To become acquainted with one's brothers and sisters, to know their problems and to learn to love them, is the supreme experience of living."

(From: Sydney Smith (1771 - 1845)
Life is to be fortified by many friendships. To love and to be loved is the greatest happiness of existence.

Everybody, everybody wants to Love...
Everybody, everybody wants to Be Loved

(From: Victor Hugo (1802 - 1885)
What a grand thing, to be loved! What a grander thing still, to love!

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-54 Section-2)
No being in all the universe has the rightful liberty to deprive any other being of true liberty, the right to love and be loved,

(From: Karen Sunde)
To love is to receive a glimpse of heaven.

(From: The RSV Bible - John I 4:11)
Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-100 Section-4)
Love is infectious, and when human devotion is intelligent and wise, love is more catching than hate. But only genuine and unselfish love is truly contagious. If each mortal could only become a focus of dynamic affection, this benign virus of love would soon pervade the sentimental emotion-stream of humanity to such an extent that all civilization would be encompassed by love, and that would be the realization of the brotherhood of man.

(From:
Iris Murdoch (1919 - 1999)

We can only learn to love by loving.

(From: The RSV Bible - Romans 13:8)
Owe no one anything, except to love one another; for he who loves his neighbor has fulfilled the law.

(From: Sebastien-Roch Nicolas)
If you must love your neighbor as yourself, it is at least as fair to love yourself as your neighbor.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-178 Section-1)
Throughout the vicissitudes of life, remember always to love one another.

(From: Madonna)
To be brave is to love someone unconditionally, without expecting anything in return. To just give.

When my children once become self-conscious of the assurance of the divine presence, such a faith will expand the mind, ennoble the soul, reinforce the personality, augment the happiness, deepen the spirit perception, and enhance the power to love and be loved.

To love and be loved is to feel the sun from both sides.

(From:

Let us not look back in anger, nor forward in fear, but around in awareness.

(From: Dalai Lama)
“Although it is difficult to pinpoint the physical base or location of awareness, it is perhaps the most precious thing concealed within our brains. And it is something that the individual alone can feel and experience. Each of us cherishes it highly, yet it is private”

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-16 Section-9)
Unselfishness, aside from parental instinct, is not altogether natural; other persons are not naturally loved or socially served. It requires the enlightenment of reason, morality, and the urge of religion, God-knowingness, to generate an unselfish and altruistic social order. Man's own personality awareness, self-consciousness, is also directly dependent on this very fact of innate other-awareness, this innate ability to recognize and grasp the reality of other personality, ranging from the human to the divine.

(From: Emily Post)
“Manners are a sensitive awareness of the feelings of others.

(From:
Charles Lindbergh)

“Life is a culmination of the past, an awareness of the present, an indication of a future beyond knowledge, the quality that gives a touch of divinity to matter.”

(From: Aristotle 384 BC-322 BC)
“The ultimate value of life depends upon awareness and the power of contemplation rather than upon mere survival.”

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-27 Section-3)
Ethical awareness is simply the recognition by any individual of the rights inherent in the existence of any and all other individuals.

(From: Nathaniel Branden)
“The first step toward change is awareness. The second step is acceptance.”

(From: Lao Tzu)
“The key to growth is the introduction of higher dimensions of consciousness into our awareness.”

(From: Eric Hoffer)
“To become different from what we are, we must have some awareness of what we are”

(From: Abraham Maslow)
“What is necessary to change a person is to change his awareness of himself.”

(From: Bhagavad Gita)
“For those who wish to climb the mountain of spiritual awareness, the path is selfless work. For those who have attained the summit of union with the Lord, the path is stillness and peace.”

(From: M. Scott Peck)
“The great awareness comes slowly, piece by piece. The path of spiritual growth is a path of lifelong learning. The experience of spiritual power is basically a joyful one.”

(From: Bhagavad Gita)
“On this path effort never goes to waste, and there is no failure. Even a little effort toward spiritual awareness will protect you from the greatest fear.”

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-100 Section-6)
The sincere religionist is conscious of universe citizenship and is aware of making contact with sources of superhuman power. He is thrilled and energized with the assurance of belonging to a superior and ennobled fellowship of the sons of God.

(From: Thomas Merton - Trappist Monk 1915-1968)
“The whole idea of compassion is based on a keen awareness of the interdependence of all these living beings, which are all part of one another, and all involved in one another.”

(From: Peace Pilgrim)
“Praying without ceasing is not ritualized, nor are there even words. It is a constant state of awareness of oneness with God.”

The Sermon
***********
Do you think people in general are as Aware as they aught to be? If you said yes, when was the last time you drove anywhere?

Do you think that You are as Aware as you aught to be? Are you as Aware as you Could be? Are you as Aware as you Can be?

What's the big deal with Awareness anyway?

Well Personal Safety for one thing, and the safety of everyone around you. But Awareness is so much More than being Aware of your surroundings and whatever dangers can be avoided by being Aware.

Awareness of other peoples feelings, Awareness of their needs, their desires, their intentions... these are every bit as important to personal well-being as Awareness of physical hazard. These Awareness's help to build good relationships with others... help us to understand others better... help us to Love one another more. Is there a way you can think of in which you could be More Aware of others?

How Aware are you of God's hand, God's presence in your life? Could be more, right? Is there a way of becoming More Aware of God's Presence in your life? It is my belief that making an effort to have a better Awareness of God's Presence in everyone else's life is the best way to accomplish that. God is just as concerned and present and active in Their lives as in yours, whether they, or you, know it or not. By consciously looking for that, by seeing it, you have become that much more Aware of God's Presence in Yours... you become more able to see God's Presence in All things. That can only be a Good thing... wouldn't you think?

We all could and should be more Aware. The greater our Awareness, the happier and more at peace we will be.

I wish a greater Awareness of You!
