(from: Albert Einstein)
[Sure I've used it before...but I Like it. ;-)]
"The significant problems we face cannot be solved at the same level of thinking we were at when we created them."

(from: The NASB Bible - Proverbs 27:19
As in water face reflects face, So the heart of man reflects man.

(from: The Urantia Papers – Paper-103 Section-5)
It is fatal to man's idealism when he is taught that all of his altruistic impulses are merely the development of his natural herd instincts. But he is ennobled and mightily energized when he learns that these higher urges of his soul emanate from the spiritual forces that indwell his mortal mind.
It lifts man out of himself and beyond himself when he once fully realizes that there lives and strives within him something which is eternal and divine. And so it is that a living faith in the superhuman origin of our ideals validates our belief that we are the sons of God and makes real our altruistic convictions, the feelings of the brotherhood of man.
Man, in his spiritual domain, does have a free will. Mortal man is neither a helpless slave of the inflexible sovereignty of an all-powerful God nor the victim of the hopeless fatality of a mechanistic cosmic determinism. Man is most truly the architect of his own eternal destiny.

(from: The Urantia Papers – Paper-159 Section-5)
When Jesus instructed his apostles that they should, when one unjustly took away the coat, offer the other garment, he referred not so much to a literal second coat as to the idea of doing something positive to save the wrongdoer in the place of the olden advice to retaliate--"an eye for an eye" and so on. Jesus abhorred the idea either of retaliation or of becoming just a passive sufferer or victim of injustice.

(from: The Urantia Papers – Paper-160 Section-2)
Every human being sooner or later acquires a certain concept of this world and a certain vision of the next. Now it is possible, through personality association, to unite these views of temporal existence and eternal prospects. Thus does the mind of one augment its spiritual values by gaining much of the insight of the other. In this way men enrich the soul by pooling their respective spiritual possessions. Likewise, in this same way, man is enabled to avoid that ever-present tendency to fall victim to distortion of vision, prejudice of viewpoint, and narrowness of judgment. Fear, envy, and conceit can be prevented only by intimate contact with other minds.

(from: My friend Thea)
It's useless to do the same old things and still expect different results. It takes change to change!!!

(from: The Urantia Papers – Paper-150 Section-9)
The transformations of grace are wrought in response to the living faith of those who are the beneficiaries.

(from: The NASB Bible - Proverbs 27:19
As in water face reflects face, So the heart of man reflects man.

(by: Leland Kaiser)
The future is simply infinite possibility waiting to happen. What it waits on is human imagination to crystallize its possibility.

The Sermon
***********
Are we Victims or Beneficiaries?

Remember not all that long ago how very many things there were that "You Just Didn't Talk about."? Think about what we take for granted today that was so Unthinkable for people less than 50 years ago.

For the first half of the 1900's there was no problem of Abuse. I'm not saying that men, women and children were not being terribly abused. From our perspectives and understandings of today, it is Obvious that they Were. No, what I'm saying is, that back then society didn't recognize 'Abuse' AS a Problem. It was more just an accepted way of Life. Women were forced into submissive roles and children were better off "Seen but not Heard." Beatings were a common method of Enforcement that were taken for granted as the best way to insure conformity to family and educational and religious Rules. And... "You Just Didn't Talk about" the kinds of things that would Eventually bring about a relative understanding of---at least Identification of---Abuse Problems.

Since the "Non-Conformity" revolution of the 1960's and 70's, we became able and Willing to talk about ANYTHING... almost with a Vengeance. It was Then that we Really began to Recognize 'Abuse' as a Problem... a very Big Problem.

Today we are able to recognize the results and the Patterns of physical, sexual, emotional and religious Abuse. We are becoming More and More able, as we recognize their effects on our own Selves. This Discovery that we were Innocent Victims of abuse and that we don't have to just Accept it anymore is the Beginning of it's End.

We have a current tendency to blame the individual perpetrators of the abuse---those who abused us---but in reality we are Truly the victims of an outdated, Immature and Distorted Social perception of "the Correct way" to live Life. The "Old Way" no longer Works in today's society and the transition to a more Loving way is Painful because of the Loss we feel we Shouldn't have had to experience. No. We Shouldn't have had to experience abuse...NO One should have to experience it.

We may be Victims of many abusive experiences, but we do not have to Stay victims. If we Recognize that this generation has become the beneficiary of a Priceless [albeit terrible] lesson, then we can Use this new-found knowledge to start to Eradicate Abuse for future generations... starting with our Own Personal Lives.

We can no longer be satisfied with ignorance. We can No longer accept abuse as a way of life. We must Forgive ourselves for being incapable of preventing our own victimization and boldly go forward preventing victimization from continuing unchallenged.

Let us learn to see ourselves, no longer as victims, but as beneficiaries of greater knowledge and experience. Let us Use this knowledge and experience towards making Abuse an Endangered/Extinct action/reaction. Let us be the Benefactors to those who follow so that one day, No One will ever again have to experience the ravages of Abuse. It is a Privilege as well as a Solemn Obligation that we have to ourselves and others.

We can Always Rightfully blame Ignorance as long as it is not our own continuing choice to Stay in it.

(from: The Urantia Papers – Paper-142 Section-2)
When Jacob finished speaking, Jesus replied: "Jacob, you have well stated the teachings of the olden prophets who taught the children of their generation in accordance with the light of their day. Our Father in Paradise is changeless. But the concept of his nature has enlarged and grown from the days of Moses down through the times of Amos and even to the generation of the prophet Isaiah. And now have I come in the flesh to reveal the Father in new glory and to show forth his love and mercy to all men on all worlds. As the gospel of this kingdom shall spread over the world with its message of good cheer and good will to all men, there will grow up improved and better relations among the families of all nations. As time passes, fathers and their children will love each other more, and thus will be brought about a better understanding of the love of the Father in heaven for his children on earth. Remember, Jacob, that a good and true father not only loves his family as a whole--as a family--but he also truly loves and affectionately cares for each individual member."

(from: The Jerusalem Bible - Luke 6:36-38)
"Be compassionate as your Father is compassionate. Do not judge, and you will not be judged yourselves; do not condemn, and you will not be condemned yourselves; grant pardon, and you will be pardoned. Give, and there will be gifts for you: a full measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over, will be poured into your lap; because the amount you measure out is the amount you will be given back."

(from: The Urantia Papers – Paper-142 Section-7)
He next explained that the "kingdom idea" was not the best way to illustrate man's relation to God; that he employed such figures of speech because the Jewish people were expecting the kingdom, and because John had preached in terms of the coming kingdom. Jesus said: "The people of another age will better understand the gospel of the kingdom when it is presented in terms expressive of the family relationship--when man understands religion as the teaching of the fatherhood of God and the brotherhood of man, sonship with God." Then the Master discoursed at some length on the earthly family as an illustration of the heavenly family, restating the two fundamental laws of living: the first commandment of love for the father, the head of the family, and the second commandment of mutual love among the children, to love your brother as yourself. And then he explained that such a quality of brotherly affection would invariably manifest itself in unselfish and loving social service.

(from: The Jerusalem Bible - Mark 3:31-35)
His mother and brothers now arrived and, standing outside, sent in a message asking for him. A crowd was sitting round him at the time the message was passed to him, "Your mother and brothers and sisters are outside asking for you." He replied, "Who are my mother and my brothers?" And looking round at those sitting in a circle about him, he said, "Here are my mother and my brothers. Anyone who does the will of God, that person is my brother and sister and mother."

The Sermon
***********
Ya Know? I grew up here in San Diego for 36 of my 46years of life. This is where most of my family lives... and all of the close friends I grew up with during all of those 36 Excellent years. I had always sworn I would Always live in San Diego. It's a Beautiful but very crowded place. I Love the People. I was rather surprised actually when everything in my life started pointing me in the direction of Coeur d'Alene, (North) Idaho. I felt Drawn. I sure Prayed alot during that time. "What do You Want me to Do God? If you Really Want me to move from everything/one I know and Love, I'd Really like to be Darn sure it's what You want... I would appreciate some fairly Blatant signs, OK?" I figured it would take some kind of Big Miracle at that point to convince me. It actually took a Whole Bunch of little ones... strung together... just ordinary enough experiences so as not to be overtly recognizable as miraculous... aside from the very Noticeable Fact of their synchronicity of Purpose.

"OK God. It Sure Feels like You want me to Go. So I'll just start plannin' on it and get ready to move. If You don't tell me Not to... then that's what I guess I'll do. Any simple little 'no' will do... and I'll Stay God."

Leaving family and lifelong friends for the totally unknown was somewhat of a transition---although the Moment we drove our U- Haul with everything we still owned into Coeur d'Alene, I Knew I was Home. No place ready for us to stay, and no work lined up... but Still it just felt Right! After going on 7 years in Coeur d'Alene, I can Honestly say that there are No Regrets. I Dearly Love my San Diego family... and I dearly Love my Coeur d'Alene family... and I Dearly Love my On-Line Family.

Amazing how Large the size of my "Family" started becoming when I began seeing All people as my Brother's and Sisters. It's Nice to have Lots and Lots of people/family to Love. I really can't Imagine Anything Better!

I Love you my Family... Wherever you live!

Quotes

(from: The RSV Bible - Peter I 1:8-9)
Without having seen him you love him; though you do not now see him you believe in him and rejoice with unutterable and exalted joy. As the outcome of your faith you obtain the salvation of your souls.

(from: The Urantia Papers – Paper-103 Section-9)
Although religious experience is a purely spiritual subjective phenomenon, such an experience embraces a positive and living faith attitude toward the highest realms of universe objective reality. The ideal of religious philosophy is such a faith-trust as would lead man unqualifiedly to depend upon the absolute love of the infinite Father of the universe of universes. Such a genuine religious experience far transcends the philosophic objectification of idealistic desire; it actually takes salvation for granted and concerns itself only with learning and doing the will of the Father in Paradise. The earmarks of such a religion are: faith in a supreme Deity, hope of eternal survival, and love, especially of one's fellows.

(from: The NASB Bible - James 1:21-27)
Therefore, putting aside all filthiness and all that remains of wickedness, in humility receive the word implanted, which is able to save your souls. But prove yourselves doers of the word, and not merely hearers who delude themselves. For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks at his natural face in a mirror; for once he has looked at himself and gone away, he has immediately forgotten what kind of person he was. But one who looks intently at the perfect law, the law of liberty, and abides by it, not having become a forgetful hearer but an effectual doer, this man will be blessed in what he does. If anyone thinks himself to be religious, and yet does not bridle his tongue but deceives his own heart, this man's religion is worthless. Pure and undefiled religion in the sight of our God and Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their distress, and to keep oneself unstained by the world.

(from: The Urantia Papers – Paper-148 Section-6)
“And that is our mission on earth. No more shall suffering mortals be denied the comfort of knowing the love of God and understanding the mercy of the Father in heaven. While the speech of God spoken from the whirlwind was a majestic concept for the day of its utterance, you have already learned that the Father does not thus reveal himself, but rather that he speaks within the human heart as a still, small voice, saying, `This is the way; walk therein.' Do you not comprehend that God dwells within you, that he has become what you are that he may make you what he is!"

(from: The Urantia Papers – Paper-91 Section-6)
The psychic and spiritual concomitants of the prayer of faith are immediate, personal, and experiential. There is no other technique whereby every man, regardless of all other mortal accomplishments, can so effectively and immediately approach the threshold of that realm wherein he can communicate with his Maker, where the creature contacts with the reality of the Creator

(from: The Urantia Papers – Paper-48 Section-6)
Angels take delight in service and, when unassigned, often minister as volunteers. The soul of many an ascending mortal has for the first time been kindled by the divine fire of the will-to-service through personal friendship with the volunteer servers of the seraphic reserves.
From them you will learn to let pressure develop stability and certainty; to be faithful and earnest and, withal, cheerful; to accept challenges without complaint and to face difficulties and uncertainties without fear. They will ask: If you fail, will you rise indomitably to try anew? If you succeed, will you maintain a well-balanced poise--a stabilized and spiritualized attitude--throughout every effort in the long struggle to break the fetters of material inertia, to attain the freedom of spirit existence?
Even as mortals, so have these angels been father to many disappointments, and they will point out that sometimes your most disappointing disappointments have become your greatest blessings. Sometimes the planting of a seed necessitates its death, the death of your fondest hopes, before it can be reborn to bear the fruits of new life and new opportunity. And from them you will learn to suffer less through sorrow and disappointment, first, by making fewer personal plans concerning other personalities, and then, by accepting your lot when you have faithfully performed your duty.

(from: “The Magic School Bus” – Ms. Frizzel)
“If at first you don't succeed, Find out why.”

Today's 'Quotes' just kind of jumped out at me. Once I had them 'pasted' into the Service, the following quotes from the quotes---I like to call them "Nuggets"---just kind of jumped out at me. So I copied Those and pasted them into "The Sermon" and...

"As the outcome of your faith you obtain the salvation of your souls."

"depend upon the absolute love of the infinite Father of the universe of universes"

"prove yourselves doers of the word, and not merely hearers"

"he speaks within the human heart as a still, small voice, saying, `This is the way; walk therein.' "

"where the creature contacts with the reality of the Creator"

"break the fetters of material inertia, to attain the freedom of spirit existence"

"kindled by the divine fire of the will-to-service"

"suffer less through sorrow and disappointment, first, by making fewer personal plans concerning other personalities, and then, by accepting your lot when you have faithfully performed your duty"

“If at first you don't succeed, Find out why.”

...they just kinda Became the Sermon.

Think about it.

Quotes

(from: A Joke - Most likely heard, if not told, by All)
"Lord, Give me Patience... and I want it RIGHT NOW!!"

(from: The Urantia Papers – Paper-100 Section-6)
One of the most amazing earmarks of religious living is that dynamic and sublime peace, that peace which passes all human understanding, that cosmic poise which betokens the absence of all doubt and turmoil. Such levels of spiritual stability are immune to disappointment. Such religionists are like the Apostle Paul, who said: "I am persuaded that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor anything else shall be able to separate us from the love of God."

(from: The Tao Te Ching - #15)
Do you have the patience to wait till your mud settles and the water is clear? Can you remain unmoving till the right action arises by itself?
The Master doesn't seek fulfillment. Not seeking, not expecting, she is present, and can welcome all things.

(from: The RSV Bible - Romans 8:25-28)
But if we hope for what we do not see, we wait for it with patience. Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with sighs too deep for words. And he who searches the hearts of men knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God. We know that in everything God works for good with those who love him, who are called according to his purpose.

(from: The Urantia Papers – Paper-99 Section-7)
Religion inspires man to live courageously and joyfully on the face of the earth; it joins patience with passion, insight to zeal, sympathy with power, and ideals with energy.

(from: The RSV Bible - Luke 8:13-15)
And the ones on the rock are those who, when they hear the word, receive it with joy; but these have no root, they believe for a while and in time of temptation fall away. And as for what fell among the thorns, they are those who hear, but as they go on their way they are choked by the cares and riches and pleasures of life, and their fruit does not mature. And as for that in the good soil, they are those who, hearing the word, hold it fast in an honest and good heart, and bring forth fruit with patience.

(from: The Urantia Papers – Paper-100 Section-6)
The marks of human response to the religious impulse embrace the qualities of nobility and grandeur. The sincere religionist is conscious of universe citizenship and is aware of making contact with sources of superhuman power. He is thrilled and energized with the assurance of belonging to a superior and ennobled fellowship of the sons of God. The consciousness of self-worth has become augmented by the stimulus of the quest for the highest universe objectives--supreme goals.
The self has surrendered to the intriguing drive of an all-encompassing motivation which imposes heightened self-discipline, lessens emotional conflict, and makes mortal life truly worth living. The morbid recognition of human limitations is changed to the natural consciousness of mortal shortcomings, associated with moral determination and spiritual aspiration to attain the highest universe and superuniverse goals. And this intense striving for the attainment of supermortal ideals is always characterized by increasing patience, forbearance, fortitude, and tolerance.
But true religion is a living love, a life of service. The religionist's detachment from much that is purely temporal and trivial never leads to social isolation, and it should not destroy the sense of humor. Genuine religion takes nothing away from human existence, but it does add new meanings to all of life; it generates new types of enthusiasm, zeal, and courage.

(from: The Urantia Papers – Paper-118 Section-1)
Patience is exercised by those mortals whose time units are short; true maturity transcends patience by a forbearance born of real understanding.
To become mature is to live more intensely in the present, at the same time escaping from the limitations of the present. The plans of maturity, founded on past experience, are coming into being in the present in such manner as to enhance the values of the future.

(from: The Tao Te Ching - #67)
Some say that my teaching is nonsense. Others call it lofty but impractical. But to those who have looked inside themselves, this nonsense makes perfect sense. And to those who put it into practice, this loftiness has roots that go deep.
I have just three things to teach: simplicity, patience, compassion. These three are your greatest treasures. Simple in actions and in thoughts, you return to the source of being. Patient with both friends and enemies, you accord with the way things are. Compassionate toward yourself, you reconcile all beings in the world.

(from: The Urantia Papers – Paper-101 Section-3)
Through religious faith the soul of man reveals itself and demonstrates the potential divinity of its emerging nature by the characteristic manner in which it induces the mortal personality to react to certain trying intellectual and testing social situations. Genuine spiritual faith (true moral consciousness) is revealed in that it:
        1. Causes ethics and morals to progress despite inherent and adverse animalistic tendencies.
        2. Produces a sublime trust in the goodness of God even in the face of bitter disappointment and crushing defeat.
        3. Generates profound courage and confidence despite natural adversity and physical calamity.
        4. Exhibits inexplicable poise and sustaining tranquility notwithstanding baffling diseases and even acute physical suffering.
        5. Maintains a mysterious poise and composure of personality in the face of maltreatment and the rankest injustice.
        6. Maintains a divine trust in ultimate victory in spite of the cruelties of seemingly blind fate and the apparent utter indifference of natural forces to human welfare.
        7. Persists in the unswerving belief in God despite all contrary demonstrations of logic and successfully withstands all other intellectual sophistries.
        8. Continues to exhibit undaunted faith in the soul's survival regardless of the deceptive teachings of false science and the persuasive delusions of unsound philosophy.
        9. Lives and triumphs irrespective of the crushing overload of the complex and partial civilizations of modern times.
        10. Contributes to the continued survival of altruism in spite of human selfishness, social antagonisms, industrial greeds, and political maladjustments.
        11. Steadfastly adheres to a sublime belief in universe unity and divine guidance regardless of the perplexing presence of evil and sin.
        12. Goes right on worshiping God in spite of anything and everything. Dares to declare, "Even though he slay me, yet will I serve him."

The Sermon
***********
I am starting to come to the conclusion that 'Patience' is not something that can be given but instead must be earned. Sure... I KNEW it, in my Head, but... I guess I just didn't really want to Believe it.        It began dawning on me when I started Praying for Patience.

Ya Ever pray for Patience... only to discover that you are given more and more opportunities to Exercise it? Don't ya Hate when that happens? ;-) Won't ever say THAT Prayer again... WILL ya? Wanna Bet?

Everyone admires True Patience when they see it in another. How do they Get that? Doesn't anything Bother them? Are they like that All the Time? Perhaps at times they have their 'Impatient Moments' just like the Rest of us... ya Think?

It doesn't seem to matter How much Patience I acquire, nor how many different ways I have learned how to exercise it... there Always seems to appear another area in my life for which I seem Far from achieving the mastery of it. I just start feeling like I'm getting good at exercising Patience in One particular type of instance, and then another type interjects itself and I feel like I have to start with the 'Patience' thing all Over again.

Don't it get Frustrating at times? But then... Each time Patience is Rewarded, it all just seems So Worth it... doesn't it? Why is it So Difficult to remember the 'Rewards' of Patience in the Moment? Why?!?!

Ya know, now that I Think about it, I Usually don't remember to pray for Patience until After I have experienced an episode wherein I have failed to exercise it. "Oh God, I Should have been more Patient!" And then as a Human so inherently does, I berate myself for my inability to Always BE Patient. So then the "Praying for Patience" issue comes up, as Usual (sigh), and I have to decide if I Really want to go through THAT again. Despite my wariness I usually succumb to the urge, in Spite of myself, to pray once again for Patience... and Then, as if trying to get a "blanket policy" to cover all instances, I try:

"Dear God, Please give me Patience Always... in Every Circumstance!"
"YEAH! THAT aught'a do it!"
Ya Think?

NOT...

Herein is where I'm starting to think I may be making my mistake... Wanting it All at Once... or... in Advance of it's True Need... being Impatient for Patience. Go Figure.

Ya Think it might work better if "Next Time" I pray for Patience in the Moment I can feel myself Losing it?

In reflection... now that I Think about it... Every time I have consciously prayed for Patience at the very Moment I needed it Most... I have Gotten it Right Then and There. When I have prayed for Patience 'the Next time I face this kind of situation', I usually do a little bit better when the situation again presents itself. But when I lazily 'Pray for it All at Once', Invariably I am deluged with multiple and concurrent and seemingly Endless situations where Patience needs to be exercised.

Hmmm... ya Think maybe... nah... well... I suppose it's Possible... but... I don't know... I guess I could TRY it... yeah, OK... I'll give it a go...

*******************************************
The Prayer
**********
Dear God,
Give me Patience in THIS moment... for THIS challenge.
OH!!! That feels Better!! I guess it Does Work! Remind me to try this again Next time, OK God?
        And... Hey God? Thanks! Again!
