Welcome by: Pastor Daniel

Greetings my Beloved Sisters and Brothers, and welcome once again to the Church that is Within.

I found something the other that I wrote back in the middle to late 90's. I decided to use it as part of today's Sermon and have made a few minor adjustments to the original for this purpose…

The topic of today's Sunday Service, #641, is “Faith is a Simple act in Trust”…

********************************************
Quotes
*******
(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-103 Section-9)
The ideal of religious philosophy is such a faith-trust as would lead man unqualifiedly to depend upon the absolute love of the infinite Father of the universe of universes. Such a genuine religious experience far transcends the philosophic objectification of idealistic desire; it actually takes salvation for granted and concerns itself only with learning and doing the will of the Father in Paradise. The earmarks of such a religion are: faith in a supreme Deity, hope of eternal survival, and love, especially of one's fellows.

(From: The RSV Bible - Psalm 37:5-6)
Commit your way to the LORD, Trust also in Him, and He will do it. He will bring forth your righteousness as the light And your judgment as the noonday.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-101 Section-2)
Religion is the faith act of the recognition of this inner urge to divine attainment; and thus is brought about that soul trust and assurance of which you become conscious as the way of salvation, the technique of the survival of personality and all those values which you have come to look upon as being true and good.

(From: Bertrand Russell)
The most valuable things in life are not measured in monetary terms. The really important things are not houses and lands, stocks and bonds, automobiles and real state, but friendships, trust, confidence, empathy, mercy, love and faith.

(From: The ASB Bible - Psalm 37:5-6)
Commit your way to the LORD, Trust also in Him, and He will do it. He will bring forth your righteousness as the light And your judgment as the noonday.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-101 Section-0)
There really is a true and genuine inner voice, that "true light which lights every man who comes into the world." And this spirit leading is distinct from the ethical prompting of human conscience. The feeling of religious assurance is more than an emotional feeling. The assurance of religion transcends the reason of the mind, even the logic of philosophy. Religion is faith, trust, and assurance.

(From: Sydney Smith (1771 - 1845)
It is always right that a man should be able to render a reason for the faith that is within him.

(From: The ASB Bible - Romans 14:22)
The faith which you have, have as your own conviction before God.

(From: The ASB Bible - James 2:18)
But someone may well say, "You have faith and I have works; show me your faith without the works, and I will show you my faith by my works."

(From: George E. Woodberry)
If you can't have faith in what is held up to you for faith, you must find things to believe in yourself, for a life without faith in something is too narrow a space to live.

(From: Adlai E. Stevenson Jr. (1900 - 1965)
I believe that if we really want human brotherhood to spread and increase until it makes life safe and sane, we must also be certain that there is no one true faith or path by which it may spread

(From: Alan Watts)
Faith is, above all, openness; an act of trust in the unknown.

(From: The KJV Bible - Hebrews 11:1)
Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

(From: Albert Einstein (1879 - 1955)
I have deep faith that the principle of the universe will be beautiful and simple.

(From: Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803 - 1882)
The faith that stands on authority is not faith.

(From: Shakti Gawain)
When I'm trusting and being myself... everything in my life reflects this by falling into place easily, often miraculously.

(From: Johann Wolfgang von Goethe (1749 - 1832), Faust)
As soon as you trust yourself, you will know how to live.

(From: Martin Luther King Jr. (1929 - 1968)
Faith is taking the first step, even when you don't see the whole staircase.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-32 Section-5)
The goal of eternity is ahead! The adventure of divinity attainment lies before you! The race for perfection is on! whosoever will may enter, and certain victory will crown the efforts of every human being who will run the race of faith and trust, depending every step of the way on the leading of the indwelling Adjuster and on the guidance of that good spirit of the Universe Son, which so freely has been poured out upon all flesh.

The Sermon
***********
Faith is a Simple act in Trust.

Trust
that when you step, you are going in the right direction.
...Faith steps will always lead you forward.
Trust that taking the first step will always show you the next.
..Faith makes each step the First; every step the Next.
Trust that if you fall down, you may get back up & try again.
..Faith will not let you stay down for very long.
Trust that you will Succeed.
...Faith allows you to do so and entices you to try.
Trust that you have a purpose in God's plan.
...Faith steps are what reveal it to you.
Trust that your Purpose is more Grand than you can Possibly imagine.
...Faith creates the opportunity for delightful surprises.
Trust that you are Cared for and Loved and will be Guided.
...Faith steps prove that it is True.

Belief is intellectual... Faith is Experiential.
Belief "knows" it... Faith lives it.
Trust your Beliefs and Act upon them in Faith.

A hundred experiences of finding that some beliefs were in error is a small price to pay for but a single experience of proving the Truth of one.

Faith can move a Mountain...
Even if but one pebble at a time.

Act in Faith.

Live “In Love”

Genuine goodness is threatening to those at the opposite end of the moral spectrum.

Welcome by: Pastor Daniel
************************
Greetings my Beloved Sisters and Brothers, and welcome once again to the Church that is Within.

Did I tell you that my heart tested out okay (though blood pressure is a bit high) and my rotator-cup surgery was rescheduled for February 25th? Thank You God!

The topic of today's Sunday Service, #642, is Goodness…

*******************************************
The Sermon
***********
Goodness is,

Craved by all…
The Soul cannot help but to crave Goodness…
Goodness is Like God and Of God.

Completely Trusted by few…
The ego finds it difficult to trust Goodness…
Fearing the possibility that it may not be genuine.

Recognized by most…
You know it when you see it…
Not so much when you Be it.

Acknowledged by some…
        Soul does…
        Ego not so much.

Endorsed by the majority…
        Who would not?
        Yet some Do not?

Goodness is,

A Quality…
An Attitude…
A Characteristic…

Goodness is,

Alive…
Active…
Flowing…

But I think most importantly to remember about Goodness is that…

Goodness is,

Real…
Available…
Even Attainable.

Goodness is much like Love in that…

Now is what truly Matters.

Quotes
*******
(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-156 Section-5)
As the days pass, every true believer becomes more skillful in alluring his fellows into the love of eternal truth. Are you more resourceful in revealing goodness to humanity today than you were yesterday? Are you a better righteousness recommender this year than you were last year? Are you becoming increasingly artistic in your technique of leading hungry souls into the spiritual kingdom?

(From: The Tao Te Ching - #8)
The supreme good is like water,
which nourishes all things without trying to.
It is content with the low places that people disdain.
Thus it is like the Tao.

(From: Heloise (1098 - 1164), Letter)
Riches and power are but gifts of blind fate, whereas goodness is the result of one's own merits.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-56 Section-10)
The recognition of goodness implies a mind of moral status, a personal mind with ability to discriminate between good and evil. But the possession of goodness, greatness, is the measure of real divinity attainment.

(From: Alfred A. Montapert)
The main source of our wealth is goodness. The affections and the generous qualities that God admires in a world full of greed.

(From: Saint Thomas Aquinas (1225 - 1274), Summa Theologica)
...the goodness of the will depends on the intention of the end.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-102 Section-3)
Religious desire is the hunger quest for divine reality. Religious experience is the realization of the consciousness of having found God. And when a human being does find God, there is experienced within the soul of that being such an indescribable restlessness of triumph in discovery that he is impelled to seek loving service-contact with his less illuminated fellows, not to disclose that he has found God, but rather to allow the overflow of the welling-up of eternal goodness within his own soul to refresh and ennoble his fellows. Real religion leads to increased social service.

(From: The RSV Bible - Psalm 23:6)
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; and I shall dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.

(From: Euripides (484 BC - 406 BC), Temenidae)
When good men die their goodness does not perish,
But lives though they are gone. As for the bad,
All that was theirs dies and is buried with them.

(From: Henry David Thoreau (1817 - 1862), Walden: Higher Laws, 1854)
Goodness is the only investment that never fails.

(From: Sue Patton Thoele)

At the center of each human heart is goodness, layered over with hurt, confusion, and mistaken ideas. Our task is to gently peel off layer after layer until the unfettered heart can shed its love upon the world.

(From: “Jesus” - The Urantia Book - Paper-192 Section-2)
“Devote your life to proving that love is the greatest thing in the world. It is the love of God that impels men to seek salvation. Love is the ancestor of all spiritual goodness, the essence of the true and the beautiful."

(From: Marcus Aurelius, Meditations)
One whose chief regard is for his own mind, and for the divinity within him and the service of its goodness, will strike no poses, utter no complaints, and crave neither for solitude nor yet for a crowd. Best of all, his life will be free from continual pursuing and avoiding.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-34 Section-6)
The consciousness of the spirit domination of a human life is presently attended by an increasing exhibition of the characteristics of the Spirit in the life reactions of such a spirit-led mortal, "for the fruits of the spirit are love, joy, peace, long-suffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, and temperance." Such spirit-guided and divinely illuminated mortals, while they yet tread the lowly paths of toil and in human faithfulness perform the duties of their earthly assignments, have already begun to discern the lights of eternal life as they glimmer on the faraway shores of another world; already have they begun to comprehend the reality of that inspiring and comforting truth, "The kingdom of God is not meat and drink but righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit." And throughout every trial and in the presence of every hardship, spirit-born souls are sustained by that hope which transcends all fear because the love of God is shed abroad in all hearts by the presence of the divine Spirit.

When I can see the Goodness and Love in others, I have found You in them.

“You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”

The topic of today's Sunday Service, #643, is The Golden Rule…

*******************************************
The Sermon
***********
Do to others as you would have them do to you.
…is only half of the equation.

Equally important is the injunction…
Do not do to others those things you would not wish done to you.

Any neglect of one or the other and the Purpose of The Golden Rule is only partially served.

Think about it.

Quotes
*******
(From: Marin Luther King, Jr., Strength to Love (1963)

The good neighbor looks beyond the external accidents and discerns those inner qualities that make all men human and, therefore, brothers.

(From: Alfred Adler (1870 - 1937)
There is a law that man should love his neighbor as himself. In a few hundred years it should be as natural to mankind as breathing or the upright gait; but if he does not learn it he must perish.

(From: The RSV Bible - Matthew 22:37-40)
And he said to him, "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it, You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments depend all the law and the prophets."

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-54 Section-1)
There is no error greater than that species of self-deception which leads intelligent beings to crave the exercise of power over other beings for the purpose of depriving these persons of their natural liberties. The golden rule of human fairness cries out against all such fraud, unfairness, selfishness, and unrighteousness. Only true and genuine liberty is compatible with the reign of love and the ministry of mercy.

(From: Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803 - 1882)
Each man takes care that his neighbor shall not cheat him. But a day comes when he begins to care that he does not cheat his neighbor. Then all goes well -- he has changed his market-cart into a chariot of the sun.

(From: The RSV Bible - Romans 13:8-10)
Owe no one anything, except to love one another; for he who loves his neighbor has fulfilled the law. The commandments, "You shall not commit adultery, You shall not kill, You shall not steal, You shall not covet," and any other commandment, are summed up in this sentence, "You shall love your neighbor as yourself." Love does no wrong to a neighbor; therefore love is the fulfilling of the law.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-101 Section-8)
Faith does not shackle the creative imagination, neither does it maintain an unreasoning prejudice toward the discoveries of scientific investigation. Faith vitalizes religion and constrains the religionist heroically to live the golden rule.

(From: Sebastien-Roch Nicolas)
If you must love your neighbor as yourself, it is at least as fair to love yourself as your neighbor.

(From: Author Unknown)
Practicing the Golden Rule is not a sacrifice; it is an investment.

(From: The RSV Bible - Luke 10:27-37)
And he answered, "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your strength, and with all your mind; and your neighbor as yourself."
And he said to him, "You have answered right; do this, and you will live."
But he, desiring to justify himself, said to Jesus, "And who is my neighbor?"
Jesus replied, "A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and he fell among robbers, who stripped him and beat him, and departed, leaving him half dead. Now by chance a priest was going down that road; and when he saw him he passed by on the other side. So likewise a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side. But a Samaritan, as he journeyed, came to where he was; and when he saw him, he had compassion, and went to him and bound up his wounds, pouring on oil and wine; then he set him on his own beast and brought him to an inn, and took care of him. And the next day he took out two denarii and gave them to the innkeeper, saying, 'Take care of him; and whatever more you spend, I will repay you when I come back.'
Which of these three, do you think, proved neighbor to the man who fell among the robbers?" He said, "The one who showed mercy on him." And Jesus said to him, "Go and do likewise."

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-140 Section-5)
From the Sermon on the Mount to the discourse of the Last Supper, Jesus taught his followers to manifest fatherly love rather than brotherly love. Brotherly love would love your neighbor as you love yourself, and that would be adequate fulfillment of the "golden rule." But fatherly affection would require that you should love your fellow mortals as Jesus loves you.

Greetings my Beloved Sisters and Brothers, and welcome once again to the Church that is Within.

Now, I am absolutely Sure that I have previously done more than a fair number of Sunday Services on the same topic that I will use today, even quite recently as a matter of fact… and yet for some reason, during my search for quotes, I was surprised first by how few quotes were available on the word search through my usual sources (other than in the U.B.), and secondly by how many of them did not strike me as being very familiar. Well as Spock would say, “Fascinating…”

The topic of today's Sunday Service, #644, is Service…

Quotes
*******
(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-71 Section-6)
Present-day profit-motivated economics is doomed unless profit motives can be augmented by service motives. Ruthless competition based on narrow-minded self-interest is ultimately destructive of even those things which it seeks to maintain. Exclusive and self-serving profit motivation is incompatible with Christian ideals--much more incompatible with the teachings of Jesus.

(From: “Jesus” - The Urantia Book - Paper-140 Section-6)
…lay not up for yourselves treasures on earth, but by your unselfish service lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, for where your treasures are, there will your hearts be also.

(From: Og Mandino (1923 - 1996)
Always render more and better service than is expected of you, no matter what your task may be.

(From: “Jesus” - The Urantia Book - Paper-159 Section-2)
I tell you that, even when a cup of cold water is given to a thirsty soul, the Father's messengers shall ever make record of such a service of love."

(From: Sir Wilfred T. Grenfell)
The service we render to others is really the rent we pay for our room on this earth. It is obvious that man is himself a traveler; that the purpose of this world is not "to have and to hold" but "to give and serve." There can be no other meaning.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-150 Section-8)
You are not to be saved because you live a righteous life; rather is it that you live a righteous life because you have already been saved, have recognized sonship as the gift of God and service in the kingdom as the supreme delight of life on earth.

(From: Albert Einstein (1879 - 1955)
The aim (of education) must be the training of independently acting and thinking individuals who, however, can see in the service to the community their highest life achievement.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-188 Section-4)
Jesus taught that service to one's fellows is the highest concept of the brotherhood of spirit believers. Salvation should be taken for granted by those who believe in the fatherhood of God. The believer's chief concern should not be the selfish desire for personal salvation but rather the unselfish urge to love and, therefore, serve one's fellows even as Jesus loved and served mortal men.

(From: Cesar E. Chavez)
The end of all education should surely be service to others.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-157 Section-2)
Even now you should begin to find deliverance from the bondage of fear and doubt as you enter upon the living of the new life of faith and hope. And when the feelings of service for your fellow men arise within your soul, do not stifle them; when the emotions of love for your neighbor well up within your heart, give expression to such urges of affection in intelligent ministry to the real needs of your fellows."
