(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-140 Section-8)
The Master came to create in man a new spirit, a new will — to impart a new capacity for knowing the truth, experiencing compassion, and choosing goodness — the will to be in harmony with God's will, coupled with the eternal urge to become perfect, even as the Father in heaven is perfect.

(From: David Starr Jordan (1851 - 1931), The Philosophy of Despair)
Wisdom is knowing what to do next; virtue is doing it.

(From: The Book of Runes -#10 )
Remain mindful that timely action and correct conduct are the only true protection. If you find yourself feeling pain, observe the pain, stay with it. Don't try to pull down the veil and escape from life by denying what is happening. You will progress; knowing “that” is your protection.

(From: Richard Feynman (1918 - 1988 )
I learned very early the difference between knowing the name of something and knowing something.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-99 Section-2)
Modern religion finds it difficult to adjust its attitude toward the rapidly shifting social changes only because it has permitted itself to become so thoroughly traditionalized, dogmatized, and institutionalized. The religion of living experience finds no difficulty in keeping ahead of all these social developments and economic upheavals, amid which it ever functions as a moral stabilizer, social guide, and spiritual pilot. True religion carries over from one age to another the worth-while culture and that wisdom which is born of the experience of knowing God and striving to be like him.

(From: Gaius - in “Merlin” the TV Series )
Seeing is not the same thing as knowing.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-1 Section-2)
Those who know God have experienced the fact of his presence; such God-knowing mortals hold in their personal experience the only positive proof of the existence of the living God which one human being can offer to another.

(From: T. T. Munger )
Knowledge and personality make doubt possible, but knowledge is also the cure of doubt; and when we get a full and adequate sense of personality we are lifted into a region where doubt is almost impossible, for no man can know himself as he is, and all fullness of his nature, without also knowing God.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-102 Section-6)
The God-knowing soul dares to say, “I know,” even when this knowledge of God is questioned by the unbeliever who denies such certitude because it is not wholly supported by intellectual logic. To every such doubter the believer only replies, “How do you know that I do not know?”

(From: Laurens Van der Post, Venture to the Interior (1951 )
There is a way in which the collective knowledge of mankind expresses itself, for the finite individual, through mere daily living... a way in which life itself is sheer knowing.

(From: The Book of Runes - #20)
Inner worth mounts here, and at such a time you must remember that you are not intended to rely entirely upon your own power, but rather to ask what constitutes right action. Ask through prayer, through addressing your own knowing, the Witness Self, the Teacher Within.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-1 Section-6)
The more completely man understands himself and appreciates the personality values of his fellows, the more he will crave to know the Original Personality, and the more earnestly such a God-knowing human will strive to become like the Original Personality. You can argue over opinions about God, but experience with him and in him exists above and beyond all human controversy and mere intellectual logic. The God-knowing man describes his spiritual experiences, not to convince unbelievers, but for the edification and mutual satisfaction of believers.

(From: Dean Koontz )
Some people think only intellect counts: knowing how to solve problems, knowing how to get by, knowing how to identify an advantage and seize it. But the functions of intellect are insufficient without courage, love, friendship, compassion and empathy.

(From: The ASB Bible - Romans 13:10-11)
Love does no wrong to a neighbor; therefore love is the fulfillment of the law. Do this, knowing the time, that it is already the hour for you to awaken from sleep; for now salvation is nearer to us than when we believed.

(From: Andy and Larry Wachowski, The Matrix, 1999 )
There's a difference between knowing the Path and walking the Path.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-103 Section-9)
True religion is an experience of believing and knowing as well as a satisfaction of feeling.

(From: Scott Adams (1957 - ), 'The Dilbert Principle')
Creativity is allowing yourself to make mistakes. Art is knowing which ones to keep.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-56 Section-10)
To finite man truth, beauty, and goodness embrace the full revelation of divinity reality. As this love-comprehension of Deity finds spiritual expression in the lives of God-knowing mortals, there are yielded the fruits of divinity: intellectual peace, social progress, moral satisfaction, spiritual joy, and cosmic wisdom.

(From: Richard Feynman (1918 - 1988 )
I was born not knowing and have had only a little time to change that here and there.

(From: Socrates (469 BC - 399 BC)
True knowledge exists in knowing that you know nothing.

The preacher's 5 year-old daughter noticed that her father always paused and bowed his head for a moment before starting his sermon. One day, she asked him why.

"Well, Honey," he began, proud that his daughter was so observant of his messages. "I'm asking the Lord to help me preach a good sermon."

"How come He doesn't answer it?" she asked.

Greetings my Beloved Sisters and Brothers, and welcome once again to the Church that is Within. You are the Temple. You are the Congregation. Any and All Truth is the Gospel. The Divine Spirit within you is your True Minister.

It's just something that you do all the time...

The topic of today's Sunday Service, #851, is Habit…

*******************************************
The Sermon
***********
Habits...

They say that there are Good Habits... and that there are bad Habits.

Now of course people do not always agree with each other upon what exactly constitutes a Good Habit and what exactly it is that defines a Bad Habit. There are of course Habits that are more easily agreed upon by most as being “Bad” or “Good” but even these are not Universally accepted as being one or the other.

If a Habit in fact provides a person with a measurable amount of personal satisfaction, then their tendency would be to define it as a Good Habit. On the same token you can be assured that someone else will inevitably define that very same thing as being a Bad Habit. Perceptions are formed over a persons lifetime based upon their personal experiences with those things that they see as either good or bad. When it is something that has given them feelings of security, pleasure or fulfillment, it would be quite natural for them to recognize it as being a Good Habit to have or to develop. If on the other hand it has in some way been the cause of fear or discomfort to them at one time or another, or repeatedly, then in all likelihood they will identify it as being a Bad Habit when they detect it in someone else's behaviors. It is good to keep in mind that if another person has had completely different, even opposite experiences with those very same things, they would be likely to perceive things in quite another way and have perhaps no understanding whatsoever of the certainty of your views.

In actual practice it is fairly common for a person to think that...
Good Habits are something that I have, and...
Bad Habits are something that I notice someone Else has.

Habits...

Easy to recognize in others...
Difficult to notice in ourselves.

Habits...

If we view them with Love and Compassion, we are more likely to see them as God sees them.

Love and Compassion are Good Habits to cultivate, and doing so leaves less room in our lives for less productive Habits, but it Does take work and it does Indeed take practice.

Quotes
*******
(From:
Confucius (551 BC - 479 BC )
Men's natures are alike, it is their habits that carry them far apart.

(From: William James (1842 - 1910 )
It is a common habit to blame life upon the environment. Environment modifies life but does not govern life. The soul is stronger than its surroundings.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-160 Section-3)
From the human standpoint it is a question of combined meditation and relaxation. Meditation makes the contact of mind with spirit; relaxation determines the capacity for spiritual receptivity. And this interchange of strength for weakness, courage for fear, the will of God for the mind of self, constitutes worship. At least, that is the way the philosopher views it.
When these experiences are frequently repeated, they crystallize into habits, strength-giving and worshipful habits, and such habits eventually formulate themselves into a spiritual character, and such a character is finally recognized by one's fellows as a mature personality. These practices are difficult and time-consuming at first, but when they become habitual, they are at once restful and timesaving. The more complex society becomes, and the more the lures of civilization multiply, the more urgent will become the necessity for God-knowing individuals to form such protective habitual practices designed to conserve and augment their spiritual energies.

(From: Juliene Berk )
Every habit, good or bad, is acquired and learned in the same way - by finding that it is a means of satisfaction.

(From: Agatha Christie (1890 - 1976)
Curious things, habits. People themselves never knew they had them.

(From: Aristotle (384 BC - 322 BC )
We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence then, is not an act, but a habit.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-100 Section-1)
Religious habits of thinking and acting are contributory to the economy of spiritual growth. One can develop religious predispositions toward favorable reaction to spiritual stimuli, a sort of conditioned spiritual reflex. Habits which favor religious growth embrace cultivated sensitivity to divine values, recognition of religious living in others, reflective meditation on cosmic meanings, worshipful problem solving, sharing one's spiritual life with one's fellows, avoidance of selfishness, refusal to presume on divine mercy, living as in the presence of God.

(From: Mahatma Gandhi )
“Consciously or unconsciously, everyone of us does render some service or another. If we cultivate the habit of doing this service deliberately, our desire for service will steadily grow stronger, and it will make not only for our own happiness, but that of the world at large.”

(From: Ovid (43 BC - 17 AD), Ars Amatoria )
Nothing is stronger than habit.

(From: Buddha (563 BC - 483 BC), Dhammapada )
The thought manifests as the word;
The word manifests as the deed;
The deed develops into habit;
And habit hardens into character;
So watch the thought and its ways with care,
And let it spring from love
Born out of concern for all beings…
As the shadow follows the body,
As we think, so we become.

Live, Learn, Grow. Are you...

The topic of today's Sunday Service, #852, is Willing/Will…

*******************************************
The Sermon
***********
You can do just about Anything you want to do if you are Willing... Willing to do whatever is necessary, whatever it takes in order to do it. Whether or not you Should do a specific thing though is another matter... is it not? Life is all about learning which of those things we should or shouldn't be Willing to do... or for that matter, to Be. Our Personal Priorities help to determine which of those things we will be Willing to devote the greater part of our attention and energies to.

Some are Willing to do whatever is necessary, moral or not, to attain riches or power... many are not Willing to do something immoral in order to attain them.

Some are Willing to do anything and everything they perceive to be necessary in order to insure their survival after death... many are not willing to give up certain specific things that they think (erroneously or not), might inhibit that outcome.

Are you Willing to discover God's Will for you regardless of what it may be?

Although many churches/theologies/philosophies teach that doing God's Will entails the “giving up” of certain things (for the most part, things involving one or more of their theological doctrines), it is God actually that makes that determination individually for each one of his beloved children. God does not in actuality require a person to “give something up” but, rather to be Willing to give something up. Of course pride, hatred and greed must be abandoned by all, but other than that, God is more concerned with what a person gives than with what they give up.

It is God's Will that we give Love, Compassion, Service. How Willing we are to freely give of those things is the measure of our

Are you Willing to Do God's Will regardless of what that may require of you?

What are you Willing to Give?

The Spirit never drives, only leads. If you are a willing learner, if you want to attain spirit levels and reach divine heights, if you sincerely desire to reach the eternal goal, then the divine Spirit will gently and lovingly lead you along the pathway of sonship and spiritual progress.

(From: Shakti Gawain )
What I am actually saying is that we need to be willing to let our intuition guide us, and then be willing to follow that guidance directly and fearlessly.

(From: Dale Carnegie )
Take a chance! All life is a chance. The man who goes furthest is generally the one who is willing to do and dare.

(From: The Urantia Book - Forward - Section-5)
The soul of man is an experiential acquirement. As a mortal creature chooses to “do the will of the Father in heaven,” so the indwelling spirit becomes the father of a new reality in human experience. The mortal and material mind is the mother of this same emerging reality.

(From: Marshall McLuhan (1911 - 1980 )
There is absolutely no inevitability as long as there is a willingness to contemplate what is happening.

(From: Ed Parker )
The intelligent man is one who has successfully fulfilled many accomplishments, and is yet willing to learn more.

(From: Joan Didion (1934 - ), "Slouching Towards Bethlehem" )
Character - the willingness to accept responsibility for one's own life - is the source from which self respect springs.

(From: Oprah Winfrey)
Whatever your goal, you can get there if you're willing to work.

(From: Joseph Campbell (1904 - 1987 )
We must be willing to get rid of the life we've planned, so as to have the life that is waiting for us.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-102 Section-8)
The highest evidence of the reality and efficacy of religion consists in the fact of human experience; namely, that man, naturally fearful and suspicious, innately endowed with a strong instinct of self-preservation and craving survival after death, is willing fully to trust the deepest interests of his present and future to the keeping and direction of that power and person designated by his faith as God. That is the one central truth of all religion. As to what that power or person requires of man in return for this watchcare and final salvation, no two religions agree; in fact, they all more or less disagree.

(From: Steven B. Beach )
Since the dawn of time there have been those among us who have been willing to go to extraordinary lengths to gain access to that domain normally reserved for birds, angels, and madmen.

(From: Robert F. Kennedy (1925 - 1968), 1966 speech quoting Ernest Hemingway )
Few men are willing to brave the disapproval of their fellows, the censure of their colleagues, the wrath of their society. Moral courage is a rarer commodity than bravery in battle or great intelligence. Yet it is the one essential, vital quality for those who seek to change a world which yields most painfully to change.

(From: Salzberg, O Magazine, The Power of Intention, January 2004 )
If we fall, we don't need self-recrimination or blame or anger - we need a reawakening of our intention and a willingness to recommit, to be whole-hearted once again.

(From: Wayne Dyer )
Love is the ability and willingness to allow those that you care for to be what they choose for themselves without any insistence that they satisfy you.

(From: Rabbi Julius Gordon )
Love is not blind - it sees more, not less. But because it sees more, it is willing to see less.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-1 Section-1)
The Universal Father never imposes any form of arbitrary recognition, formal worship, or slavish service upon the intelligent will creatures of the universes. The evolutionary inhabitants of the worlds of time and space must of themselves — in their own hearts — recognize, love, and voluntarily worship him. The Creator refuses to coerce or compel the submission of the spiritual free wills of his material creatures. The affectionate dedication of the human will to the doing of the Father's will is man's choicest gift to God; in fact, such a consecration of creature will constitutes man's only possible gift of true value to the Paradise Father. In God, man lives, moves, and has his being; there is nothing which man can give to God except this choosing to abide by the Father's will, and such decisions, effected by the intelligent will creatures of the universes, constitute the reality of that true worship which is so satisfying to the love-dominated nature of the Creator Father.

Nine-year-old Joey was asked by his mother what he had learned in Sunday School.

"Well, Mom, our teacher told us how God sent Moses behind enemy lines on a rescue mission to lead the Israelites out of Egypt . When he got to the Red Sea , he had his army build a pontoon bridge and all the people walked across safely. Then he radioed headquarters for reinforcements. They sent bombers to blow up the bridge and all the Israelites were saved."

"Now, Joey, is that really what your teacher taught you?" his Mother asked.

"Well, no, Mom, but, if I told it the way the teacher did, you'd never believe it!"

Quotes
*******
(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-159 Section-4)
The revelations of divine truth are not sealed except by human ignorance, bigotry, and narrow-minded intolerance. The light of the Scriptures is only dimmed by prejudice and darkened by superstition. A false fear of sacredness has prevented religion from being safeguarded by common sense. The fear of the authority of the sacred writings of the past effectively prevents the honest souls of today from accepting the new light of the gospel, the light which these very God-knowing men of another generation so intensely longed to see.

(From: The Tao Te Ching - # 23)
Be like the forces of nature: when it blows, there is only wind; when it rains, there is only rain; when the clouds pass, the sun shines through.
If you open yourself to the Tao, you are at one with the Tao and you can embody it completely. If you open yourself to insight, you are at one with insight and you can use it completely. If you open yourself to loss, you are at one with loss and you can accept it completely.
Open yourself to the Tao, then trust your natural responses; and everything will fall into place.

(From: Daniel - 3/8/92– the Pocatello TeaM)
When you are accepting of yourself, then you are not fearful of others, for intolerance and prejudice are founded on fear; fear of another's beliefs, another's culture, another's way of life, another race or color. So total acceptance of yourself, understanding yourself, frees you so that the ways of others cannot bring fear or misunderstanding, misgivings, or the like. You are able to get past these traits, for in ridding yourself of fear you leave yourself open to others. You are able to see them as struggling humans as yourself. If you will take the time to know another, then you will be accepting.

(From: Melody Beattie )
Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos to order, confusion to clarity.

(From: Peter McWilliams, Life 101 )
Acceptance is such an important commodity, some have called it "the first law of personal growth."

(From: Kathleen Casey Theisen )
Acceptance is not submission; it is acknowledgment of the facts of a situation. Then deciding what you're going to do about it.

(From: Elyon 3/11/94 – the Spokane TeaM)
It is nothing more my friends than a healing that needs to take place, a forgiveness and most of all, acceptance for who you each are as individuals and as children of the Father.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-150 Section-5)
Salvation is the gift of the Father and is revealed by his Sons. Acceptance by faith on your part makes you a partaker of the divine nature, a son or a daughter of God. By faith you are justified; by faith are you saved; and by this same faith are you eternally advanced in the way of progressive and divine perfection

(From: Peter McWilliams, Life 101 )
Acceptance is not a state of passivity or inaction. I am not saying you can't change the world, right wrongs, or replace evil with good. Acceptance is, in fact, the first step to successful action. If you don't fully accept a situation precisely the way it is, you will have difficulty changing it. Moreover, if you don't fully accept the situation, you will never really know if the situation should be changed.

(From: Arthur Rubinstein (1886 - 1982 )
Of course there is no formula for success except perhaps an unconditional acceptance of life and what it brings.

(From: Shunryu Suzuki )
Without accepting the fact that everything changes, we cannot find perfect composure. But unfortunately, although it is true, it is difficult for us to accept it.

(From: Chuang-tzu (369 BC - 286 BC )
Stay centered by accepting whatever you are doing. This is the ultimate.

(From: Peter McWilliams, Life 101 )
If our early lessons of acceptance were as successful as our early lessons of anger, how much happier we would all be.

(From: Edwin Louis Cole )
Maturity comes not with age but with the acceptance of responsibility. You are only young once but immaturity can last a lifetime!

(From: Henry Miller (1891 - 1980 )
Living apart and at peace with myself, I came to realize more vividly the meaning of the doctrine of acceptance. To refrain from giving advice, to refrain from meddling in the affairs of others, to refrain, even though the motives be the highest, from tampering with another's way of life - so simple, yet so difficult for an active spirit.

(From: The Tao Te Ching - # 30)
The Master does his job and then stops. He understands that the universe is forever out of control, and that trying to dominate events goes against the current of the Tao. Because he believes in himself, he doesn't try to convince others. Because he is content with himself, he doesn't need others' approval. Because he accepts himself, the whole world accepts him.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-101 Section-8)
The acceptance of a teaching as true is not faith; that is mere belief. Neither is certainty nor conviction faith. A state of mind attains to faith levels only when it actually dominates the mode of living. Faith is a living attribute of genuine personal religious experience.

*******************************************
The Sermon
***********
There is little more difficult to freely give to another...
Nor More Precious to receive From another, than...

Acceptance

And not merely a passive Acceptance that takes little more personal participation than simply being unconcerned or indifferent, but rather... the conscious Gift of Accepting Love that says, Who you are and What you are and As you are, is not only to some extent acceptable... it is an intrinsic component of the You that has Personal Value to me. I cannot truly Love you Unconditionally, without an unconditional Acceptance of who you Truly Are. I may be unable to comprehend you... I may be incapable of Understanding you... but that prevents me not from Loving you... from Accepting you.

God Accepts me for who I am...
God accepts You for who You are...

Would it not Also be God's Will that I accept You unconditionally for who You are and You unconditionally accept Me for who I am?

Hmmm... Something worth pondering upon perhaps??

Dear God,
You are the essence of Acceptance. Teach me these ways of Yours.
