I heard a story not long ago about a guy who sent flowers to his friend, who was opening a new restaurant. When he arrived at the grand opening, he looked for his flowers. Well, when he found them, he saw that he had sent a white wreath that said, "May you rest in peace."

He panicked, of course, and called the florist, who said, "Bob, I'm not worried about you because as we speak, there's a guy being buried, who got a dozen roses that said, "Good luck in your new location!"

Greetings my Beloved Sisters and Brothers, and welcome once again to the Church that is Within. You are the Temple. You are the Congregation. Any and All Truth is the Gospel. The Divine Spirit within you is your True Minister.

I never thought about putting these two Together before.
I wonder why not?

The topic of today's Sunday Service, #902, is Soul and Goodness…

Quotes
*******
(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-160 Section-2)
Isolation tends to exhaust the energy charge of the soul. Association with one's fellows is essential to the renewal of the zest for life and is indispensable to the maintenance of the courage to fight those battles consequent upon the ascent to the higher levels of human living. Friendship enhances the joys and glorifies the triumphs of life. Loving and intimate human associations tend to rob suffering of its sorrow and hardship of much of its bitterness. The presence of a friend enhances all beauty and exalts every goodness.

(From: John Dryden (1631 - 1700 )
Let grace and goodness be the principal loadstone of thy affections.

(From: Meladee McCarty )
Live your life as though there is great joy to be experienced... an abundance of goodness in each person you come in contact with, and the knowledge that you have enough inner wisdom to answer the mysteries that challenge you.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-132 Section-3)
Revealed truth, personally discovered truth, is the supreme delight of the human soul; it is the joint creation of the material mind and the indwelling spirit. The eternal salvation of this truth-discerning and beauty-loving soul is assured by that hunger and thirst for goodness which leads this mortal to develop a singleness of purpose to do the Father's will, to find God and to become like him.

(From: Emanuel Swedenborg (1688 - 1772), "Arcana Coelestia" )
You are not made happy by the true things you believe from your faith, but by the goodness which comes from your faith.

(From: The Tao Te Ching - # 8)
The supreme good is like water, which nourishes all things without trying to. It is content with the low places that people disdain. Thus it is like the Tao.

(From: Heloise (1098 - 1164), Letter )
Riches and power are but gifts of blind fate, whereas goodness is the result of one's own merits.

(From: Josephine Hart, "Sin")
We are here to add to the sum of human goodness. To prove the thing exists. And however futile each individual act of courage or generosity, self-sacrifice or grace-it still proves the thing exists. Each act adds to the fund. It needs replenishment.

(From: Henry David Thoreau (1817 - 1862 )
Goodness is the only investment that never fails.

(From: The Tao Te Ching - # 27)
A good traveler has no fixed plans
and is not intent upon arriving.
A good artist lets his intuition
lead him wherever it wants.
A good scientist has freed himself of concepts
and keeps his mind open to what is.

(From: Charles Spencer )
Genuine goodness is threatening to those at the opposite end of the moral spectrum.

(From: The RSV Bible - Galatians 5:22-23)
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such there is no law.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-131 Section-2)
The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me to lie down in green pastures; he leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul. He leads me in the paths of righteousness. Yes, even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for God is with me. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

(From: Alfred A. Montapert )
The main source of our wealth is goodness. The affections and the generous qualities that God admires in a world full of greed.

(From: Marcus Aurelius, Meditations – Book Three )
One whose chief regard is for his own mind, and for the divinity within him and the service of its goodness, will strike no poses, utter no complaints, and crave neither for solitude nor yet for a crowd.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-2 Section-7)
The religious challenge of this age is to those farseeing and forward-looking men and women of spiritual insight who will dare to construct a new and appealing philosophy of living out of the enlarged and exquisitely integrated modern concepts of cosmic truth, universe beauty, and divine goodness. Such a new and righteous vision of morality will attract all that is good in the mind of man and challenge that which is best in the human soul. Truth, beauty, and goodness are divine realities, and as man ascends the scale of spiritual living, these supreme qualities of the Eternal become increasingly co-ordinated and unified in God, who is love.

(From: Sue Patton Thoele, The Courage To Be Yourself )
At the center of each human heart is goodness, layered over with hurt, confusion, and mistaken ideas. Our task is to gently peel off layer after layer until the unfettered heart can shed its love upon the world.

The Sermon
***********
Have you Goodness in your Heart and Soul?
Of Course! Do you not?

Your Soul is the ever-expanding reservoir of the Goodness in your life... the well from which you may draw it forth... the cup from which you may quench the thirst created by the seemingly never-ending struggles of life on this world.

Goodness is the Water of Life!

Love is Goodness...
Truth is Goodness...
God is Goodness!

You do not go about life solely with the purpose of bestowing hatred and evil upon everyone and every Thing? Do you?
No... Of Course you do not!

Truly then there is Goodness within you.
Do you wish to give and receive Love?
That is Goodness...
Do you crave to know the real Truth?
Goodness...
Do you Want to be Good?
There you Have it!
Goodness, Goodness, Goodness!!

Why can we not more easily see it... feel it... recognize it?
Our Soul does. But the ego is far too preoccupied with the task of identifying where Goodness is not... and it is good at that job.

Soul: You see? This is Goodness!
ego: Yeah sure... but over There! Look! THAT is not! See!
Soul: Remember when you felt Love?
ego: Remember when I did Not?
Soul: Remember when God said Yes to your prayer?
ego: Remember when He said No?
Soul: Let your Goodness be Free... Let it Out!
ego: I'm afraid to get hurt again...
Soul: You must permit God to fill you with Goodness.
ego: I don't know how to do it...
Soul: You cannot do it. You just need to Allow it!
ego: I Want to do Good!
Soul: Do you want to Be Good?
ego: Well sure... of Course!
Soul: There! You See?
ego: Oh my Goodness...
Soul: Exactly!
ego: I wish it wasn't so hard...
Soul: It is not hard at All!
ego: Well if it's so Easy, why don't You do it?
Soul: I Do when you Let me.
ego: oh...

Greetings my Beloved Sisters and Brothers, and welcome once again to the Church that is Within. You are the Temple. You are the Congregation. Any and All Truth is the Gospel. The Divine Spirit within you is your True Minister.

If nothing seems to be going Your way, maybe it's time for a little...

The topic of today's Sunday Service, #903, is Adaptation…

*******************************************
The Sermon
***********
How Adaptable do you think that you are?
Can you get along pretty well in just about any situation that you find yourself in?

Most of us would consider ourselves fairly Adaptable, wouldn't you say?

We like to think ourselves capable of adequately functioning in just about any circumstance that life can throw at us. Heck, we have so far, right? Sure... every once in a while prevailing conditions might get the better of us, but we don't let That stop us for long... do we?

Is our ability to Adapt something that we can improve or is it just something we are born with or we aren't? I'm sure our individual personalities have an affect upon whether we desire to Adapt, or not... but on the whole I doubt not that every acquirement of knowledge, experience and wisdom increases our ability to Adapt to whatever we may encounter. Ignorance does not necessarily preclude the ability to Adapt, but it can be a hindrance to one's overall Adaptability in various situations.

Life never stops giving us challenges, difficulties, struggles... opportunities to exercise our
Adaptability. If we can't change our circumstances, at least we should be able to change our attitude about them. We might as well try to enjoy it... don't you think?

Adaptation... it's a rule, not an option.

Quotes
*******
(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-180 Section-5)
Love, unselfishness, must undergo a constant and living readaptative interpretation of relationships in accordance with the leading of the Spirit of Truth. Love must thereby grasp the ever-changing and enlarging concepts of the highest cosmic good of the individual who is loved. And then love goes on to strike this same attitude concerning all other individuals who could possibly be influenced by the growing and living relationship of one spirit-led mortal's love for other citizens of the universe. And this entire living adaptation of love must be effected in the light of both the environment of present evil and the eternal goal of the perfection of divine destiny.

(From: The Book of Runes -#4 - Separation / Retreat / Inheritance (Othila)
This is not a time to be bound by old conditioning, old authority. Consider not only what will benefit you, but what will benefit others, and act according to the Light you possess now in your life. Because you may be called upon to undertake a radical departure from old ways, total honesty is required. Otherwise, through negligence or refusal to see clearly, you may cause pain to others and damage to yourself.
Adaptability and skillful means are the methods to cultivate at this time.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-100 Section-3)
The greater the quality of cosmic adaptation, the more of meaning any experience possesses.

(From: George Bernard Shaw (1856 - 1950 )
The reasonable man adapts himself to the world; the unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself. Therefore all progress depends on the unreasonable man.

(From: Mahatma Gandhi (1869 - 1948 )
Adaptability is not imitation. It means power of resistance and assimilation.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-65 Section-6)
There is original endowment of adaptation in living things and beings. In every living plant or animal cell, in every living organism--material or spiritual--there is an insatiable craving for the attainment of ever-increasing perfection of environmental adjustment, organismal adaptation, and augmented life realization.

(From: Thomas Alva Edison )
“Keep on the lookout for novel ideas that others have used successfully. Your idea has to be original only in its adaptation to the problem you're working on.”

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-130 Section-4)
The meaning of life is its adaptability; the value of life is its progressability — even to the heights of God-consciousness.

Quotes
*******
(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-102 Section-0)
To the unbelieving materialist, man is simply an evolutionary accident. His hopes of survival are strung on a figment of mortal imagination; his fears, loves, longings, and beliefs are but the reaction of the incidental juxtaposition of certain lifeless atoms of matter. No display of energy nor expression of trust can carry him beyond the grave. The devotional labors and inspirational genius of the best of men are doomed to be extinguished by death, the long and lonely night of eternal oblivion and soul extinction. Nameless despair is man's only reward for living and toiling under the temporal sun of mortal existence. Each day of life slowly and surely tightens the grasp of a pitiless doom which a hostile and relentless universe of matter has decreed shall be the crowning insult to everything in human desire which is beautiful, noble, lofty, and good.
But such is not man's end and eternal destiny; such a vision is but the cry of despair uttered by some wandering soul who has become lost in spiritual darkness, and who bravely struggles on in the face of the mechanistic sophistries of a material philosophy, blinded by the confusion and distortion of a complex learning. And all this doom of darkness and all this destiny of despair are forever dispelled by one brave stretch of faith on the part of the most humble and unlearned of God's children on earth.

(From: Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803 - 1882 )
A hero is no braver than an ordinary man, but he is braver five minutes longer.

(From: Anna Quindlen (1953 - )
Acts of bravery don't always take place on battlefields. They can take place in your heart, when you have the courage to honor your character, your intellect, your inclinations, and, yes your soul by listening to its clean, clear voice of direction instead of following the muddied messages of a timid world.

(From: J. E. Buchrose )
Happiness comes more from loving than being loved; and often when our affection seems wounded it is only our vanity bleeding. To love, and to be hurt often, and to love again - this is the brave and happy life.

(From: Mahatma Gandhi (1869 - 1948 )
A coward is incapable of exhibiting love; it is the prerogative of the brave.

(From: Thucydides (471 BC - 400 BC )
The bravest are surely those who have the clearest vision of what is before them, glory and danger alike, and yet notwithstanding, go out to meet it.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-160 Section-1)
The great mistake is that, when life problems excite our profound fears, we refuse to recognize them. Likewise, when the acknowledgment of our difficulties entails the reduction of our long-cherished conceit, the admission of envy, or the abandonment of deep-seated prejudices, the average person prefers to cling to the old illusions of safety and to the long-cherished false feelings of security. Only a brave person is willing honestly to admit, and fearlessly to face, what a sincere and logical mind discovers.

(From: Mark Anthony )
The brave man is not without fear, the brave man does what he must despite his fear.

(From: Sallust (86 BC - 34 BC), Roman historian and politician (c. 86-c. 35 B.C. )
Necessity makes even the timid brave.

(From: Mark Twain (1835 - 1910 )
The miracle, or the power, that elevates the few is to be found in their industry, application, and perseverance under the prompting of a brave, determined spirit.

(From: Virgil (70 BC - 19 BC), Aeneid )
Fortune favors the brave.

(From: William Henry Channing )
To live content with small means, to seek elegance rather than luxury, and refinement rather than fashion, to be worthy, not respectable, and wealthy, not rich, to study hard, think quietly, talk gently, act frankly, to listen to stars and birds, to babes and sages, with open heart, to bear all cheerfully, do all bravely, await occasions, hurry never, in a word to let the spiritual, unbidden and unconscious, grow up through the common, this is to be my symphony.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-156 Section-5)
Love, freely receive from both divine and human sources regardless of your deserts, and love freely in return. But in all other things related to honor and adulation seek only that which honestly belongs to you.
The God-conscious mortal is certain of salvation; he is unafraid of life; he is honest and consistent. He knows how bravely to endure unavoidable suffering; he is uncomplaining when faced by inescapable hardship.
The true believer does not grow weary in well-doing just because he is thwarted. Difficulty whets the ardor of the truth lover, while obstacles only challenge the exertions of the undaunted kingdom builder.

*******************************************
The Sermon
***********
The Brave continue...

To Explore the Unfamiliar.
To Step Outside of their Comfort Zone.
To Persevere.
To Maintain Hope.
To Be Good.
To Live their Faith.
To Keep Loving.
To Try to do God's Will.

Any and All of these are evidence of Bravery.
Perhaps you are more Brave than you thought?

As you may know some of us have been known to have brushes with the authorities from time to time on the way home after a "social session" out with friends.

Well, three days ago I was out for an evening with friends and had several glasses of excellent Scotch, followed by some rather nice red wine. Feeling jolly I still had the sense to know that I may be over the limit. That's when I did something that I've never done before .. I took a cab home! Sure enough on the way home there was a police road block, but since it was a cab they waved it past. I arrived home safely without incident.

This was a real relief and surprise because I had never driven a cab before. I don't even know where I got it and now that it's in my garage I don't know what to do with it!!!

Quotes

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-34 Section-5)
The divine Spirit is the source of continual ministry and encouragement to the children of men. Your power and achievement is “according to his mercy, through the renewing of the Spirit.”

(From: Abraham 11/8/98 – the Woods Cross TeaM)
If you praise a child, then does that projected energy build in him a confidence and direct him towards the fruits of the spirit. The love and wellness you show him turns him inward to meet with his own Indwelling Father. Your projected energy is real and does have an affect. Father treats each child with encouragement, love, and confidence building praise.

(From: The ASB Bible - Thessalonians I 5:13-15)
Live in peace with one another. We urge you, brethren, admonish the unruly, encourage the fainthearted, help the weak, be patient with everyone. See that no one repays another with evil for evil, but always seek after that which is good for one another and for all people.

(From: Colby Dorr Dam )
Each person has an ideal, a hope, a dream which represents the soul. We must give to it the warmth of love, the light of understanding and the essence of encouragement.

(From: Elizabeth Harrison )
Those who are lifting the world upward and onward are those who encourage more than criticize.

(From: George Matthew Adams )
There are high spots in all of our lives and most of them have come about through encouragement from someone else. I don't care how great, how famous or successful a man or woman may be, each hungers for applause.

(From: George Matthew Adams )
There is no such thing as a 'self-made' man. We are made up of thousands of others. Everyone who has ever done a kind deed for us, or spoken one word of encouragement to us, has entered into the make-up of our character and of our thoughts, as well as our success.

(From: Ansel Adams (1902 - 1984 )
No man has the right to dictate what other men should perceive, create or produce, but all should be encouraged to reveal themselves, their perceptions and emotions, and to build confidence in the creative spirit.

(From: Jerome P. Fleishman)
Most of us, swimming against the tides of trouble the world knows nothing about, need only a bit of praise or encouragement - and we will make the goal.

(From: Katharine Butler Hathaway )
There is nothing better than the encouragement of a good friend.

(From: The RSV Bible - Romans 1:11-12)
For I long to see you, that I may impart to you some spiritual gift to strengthen you, that is, that we may be mutually encouraged by each other's faith, both yours and mine.

It lifts you up when you are down.
It's a helping push when your progress is stalled.
It gives you strength when you feel weak.
It renews your energy when your power is drained.
It fortifies your Soul when your ego is afraid.

Encouragement...

It is the Nourishment our Spirits so crave.
Give out all that you possibly can... it will surely find it's way back to you!
