I can't understand why people are frightened of new ideas. I'm frightened of the old ones.

Welcome by: Pastor Daniel

Greetings my Beloved Sisters and Brothers, and welcome once again to the Church that is Within.

The topic of today's Sunday Service, #379, is Ideas/Ideals…

********************************************
Quotes
*******
(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-111 Section-4)
Ideas may take origin in the stimuli of the outer world, but ideals are born only in the creative realms of the inner world. Today the nations of the world are directed by men who have a superabundance of ideas, but they are poverty-stricken in ideals. That is the explanation of poverty, divorce, war, and racial hatreds.

(From: Albert Einstein (1879 - 1955)
The ideals which have lighted my way, and time after time have given me new courage to face life cheerfully, have been Kindness, Beauty, and Truth. The trite subjects of human efforts, possessions, outward success, luxury have always seemed to me contemptible.

(From: Tomas - 12/28/03– the Rio Rancho TeaM)
There are those who are only able to deal with the glitz and shiny baubles of reality right now, and who set aside those ponderous thoughts of philosophy or theology or psychology that require grown-up thinking or advanced application. And yet these thoughts are waiting in abeyance for that childlike mind to begin to hunger for greater truth, beauty and goodness; for a greater appreciation of morality, ethics, responsibility; and they will present themselves because the Great Giver On High will provide the ministering spirits opportunities to impart these ideas to you later down the road when you are ready for further development. The universe is busy helping you become more than you were, indeed, all that you can be.

(From: Agatha Christie (1890 - 1976), An Autobiography, 1977)
I have enjoyed greatly the second blooming that comes when you finish the life of the emotions and of personal relations; and suddenly find - at the age of fifty, say - that a whole new life has opened before you, filled with things you can think about, study, or read about...It is as if a fresh sap of ideas and thoughts was rising in you.

(From: Alfred North Whitehead (1861 - 1947)
The vitality of thought is in adventure. Ideas won't keep. Something must be done about them.

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-111 Section-6)
The expansion of material knowledge permits a greater intellectual appreciation of the meanings of ideas and the values of ideals. A human being can find truth in his inner experience, but he needs a clear knowledge of facts to apply his personal discovery of truth to the ruthlessly practical demands of everyday life.

(From: Elyon - 8/25/02– the North Idaho TeaM)
It is worthwhile for every aspiring soul to project ideals and to translate these afar off ideals into goals. A goal has the effect of drawing an ideal closer to oneself, to personalize it, to release it from a vague, all encompassing worthwhile to a possess-able, attainable state of being. You know, as you are very much engaged in the framework of space and the chamber of time, that measuring is often a required action for you to accomplish your daily tasks. This does apply to growth in the spiritual realm. So you create standards, standards to attain, standards below which you will not let yourself settle. Within this margin is where you function. Your goal always exists above your highest standards. As you fully transform your personality, the lower standards rise, but they are no longer crossable. It is not that you will not let yourself go below, but rather you have become incapable of stooping.

(From: Jawaharal Nehru)
Failure comes only when we forget our ideals and objectives and principles.

(From: Carl Schurz (1829 - 1906)
Ideals are like stars: you will not succeed in touching them with your hands, but like the seafaring man on the ocean desert of waters, you choose them as your guides, and following them, you reach your destiny.

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-195 Section-7)
Mechanists--humanists--tend to drift with the material currents. Idealists and spiritists dare to use their oars with intelligence and vigor in order to modify the apparently purely material course of the energy streams.

(From: Albert Einstein (1879 - 1955)
The important thing is not to stop questioning. Curiosity has its own reason for existing. One cannot help but be in awe when he contemplates the mysteries of eternity, of life, of the marvelous structure of reality. It is enough if one tries merely to comprehend a little of this mystery every day. Never lose a holy curiosity.

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-156 Section-5)
Are your ideals sufficiently high to insure your eternal salvation while your ideas are so practical as to render you a useful citizen to function on earth in association with your mortal fellows? In the spirit, your citizenship is in heaven; in the flesh, you are still citizens of the earth kingdoms. Render to the Caesars the things which are material and to God those which are spiritual.

(From: Elyon - 9/14/97– the North Idaho TeaM)
Much as the ideas work to support an ideal, as you search your ideas and align them with your ideals, your ideals become more real.

(From: Teacher Daniel - 12/28/03– the Conference Call TeaM)
Often as you view your world you may become disheartened at the behavior you see around you, even horrific actions at times. I would say that many of you long to see more truth, more beauty, and more goodness manifested out there, and tonight I would simply direct your thoughts inward to recognize that what you would like to see in the world must come first from you. If you yearn to see more of the divine qualities, then you might begin risking to become a better portrayer of the qualities that you hold as your ideals.

*******************************************
The Sermon
***********
Ideas often stimulate the growth of one's Ideals.

and…

Ideals inevitably stimulate the Growth of one's Ideas.

but…

Whereas compromise can be a healthy, stimulating and growth promoting practice in the realm of Ideas, it can be a death sentence to one's Ideals.

Allow them Always to grow, but Compromise Never, your Ideals.

*******************************************
The Prayer
**********
Dear God,
Let the Ideals of Love and Brotherhood infect the Hearts and Souls of all of Your Children… and may the symptoms of this benign infection become a worldwide Epidemic to which none are immune.

You ALL are Within the Infinitely Loving Embrace of our Universal
Parent,

The Creator's Infinite Love to all of You,
Pastor Daniel

Welcome by: Pastor Daniel

Greetings my Beloved Sisters and Brothers, and welcome once again to the Church that is Within.

Today for some reason I “got the bump” to put the Quotes After the Sermon instead of before. was there a good reason for doing so? I don't know… let's see…

The topic of today's Sunday Service, #380, is Soul and Spirit…

*******************************************
The Sermon
***********
Anybody see the US Nationals in Figure Skating yesterday? Jill and I watched them And the NFL Playoffs (we have Satellite so we can watch both East and West Coast broadcasts ;-). Anyway, the reason I ask is that, well… I experienced something watching the Lady's Finals in Figure Skating (the Long Program), that I wonder if You noticed as well (If you watched it, that is)?

I'm talking about Michelle Kwan's Gold Medal Winning Performance. It was just Incredibly Inspiring to me (like the Rams coming back 11 points in 4 minutes to tie the Panthers---even though they blew it when they literally threw away the last 30 seconds of the 4
th quarter IMO <g>). I was actually “Pulling for” Sasha Cohen to win the Gold Medal at “Nationals” this year, but after watching Michelle's Performance… her Accomplishment… well… I can only say that Michelle Truly Deserved it this time! She re-discovered the Something… the “Muse”… the Art… the Spirit… I could see it in her emotions, in her eyes, in her Very Soul. It was unmistakable to anyone who has experienced that “Feeling” themselves.

Truth be known, I've never been much of a Michelle Kwan fan. I've been watching her skate on TV ever since she came into the National Skating scene, and she never quite touched my Soul with her performances… she never put a “lump in my throat” because of the way she skated. Technically, Physically and Mentally, Michelle is near perfection in her skating abilities… I admit. But something to me always seemed to be missing… something that both Tara Lipinsky and Sara Hughes HAD in their Olympic Gold Medal Performances that beat Michelle's perfection of technique and control… something missing that kept her from being The Best. So, What was so Inspiring about Michelle Kwan's Gold Medal Winning Performance to me, those of you who didn't see it ask? She let her Soul do the Skating rather than her ego, and her Spirit was Set Free! I could feel her Ecstatic Joy of Performance without conscious thought control… I could feel her Pure and uncontrolled Exhilaration… the “Oh MY GOD!” and then unbidden “THANK YOU!!!” instant of pure humility one experiences when they have felt the Divine Source working THROUGH and WITH them… when they are able to Truly “Let Go and Let God.” It was only the Second time I had ever seen Michelle Kwan skate with MORE than everything she had and… it Did put a “Lump in my throat” and brought tears of joyful recognition to my eyes. Michelle has a Beautiful Spirit to behold when she gives up ego's battle for results/winning/control and lets her Soul set her Spirit Free.

We ALL have a Beautiful Spirit to behold when we gives up ego's battle for results/winning/control and let our Souls set our Spirits Free.

Shouldn't we all do that more often?

Quotes
*******
(From: The RSV Bible - Luke 4:18-19)

"The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim release to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed, to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord."

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-100 Section-2)
Jesus portrayed the profound surety of the God-knowing mortal when he said: "To a God-knowing kingdom believer, what does it matter if all things earthly crash?" Temporal securities are vulnerable, but spiritual sureties are impregnable. When the flood tides of human adversity, selfishness, cruelty, hate, malice, and jealousy beat about the mortal soul, you may rest in the assurance that there is one inner bastion, the citadel of the spirit, which is absolutely unassailable; at least this is true of every human being who has dedicated the keeping of his soul to the indwelling spirit of the eternal God.

(From: Victor Hugo (1802 - 1885), Les Miserables)
There is a prospect greater than the sea, and it is the sky; there is a prospect greater than the sky, and it is the human soul.

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-111 Section-3)
The soul partakes of the qualities of both the human mind and the divine spirit but persistently evolves toward augmentation of spirit control and divine dominance through the fostering of a mind function whose meanings seek to co-ordinate with true spirit value.

(From: Vijaya Lakshmi Pandit)
Education is not merely a means for earning a living or an instrument for the acquisition of wealth. "It is an initiation into life of spirit, a training of the human soul in the pursuit of truth and the practice of virtue.

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-146 Section-3)
"While you cannot observe the divine spirit at work in your minds, there is a practical method of discovering the degree to which you have yielded the control of your soul powers to the teaching and guidance of this indwelling spirit of the heavenly Father, and that is the degree of your love for your fellow men. This spirit of the Father partakes of the love of the Father, and as it dominates man, it unfailingly leads in the directions of divine worship and loving regard for one's fellows.

(From: Berca - 1/22/98 – the Arcadia CA TeaM)
Begin to function from your soul. Allow your mind to respond to this soul as you begin to feel the joy of sharing spirit, not only joy but also the graciousness of spirit.

(From: Ham - 1991 – the Early Woods Cross TeaM)
Spiritual freedom is true freedom. It is the essence of a happy and boundless life. There are no bonds and shackles to hinder the true expression of one's innermost nature. This is freedom. There is only limitless possibility for such a soul. There is boundless happiness, abundant health, and joy in life. The soul drinks the cup of forgiveness and love, the bread of love. He knows no borders to his existence. He realizes his inner nature so that this true inner nature becomes his guidance and himself. This is the essence of doing God's will in your lives, for His will is to realize Himself in you, for you to realize yourself in Him, for the two to become one, for the two to express themselves.

(From: William Wordsworth (1770 - 1850)
Wisdom and spirit of the Universe!
Thou soul is the eternity of thought!
That giv'st to forms and images a breath
And everlasting motion! Not in vain
By day or star-light thus from by first dawn
Of childhood didst thou intertwine for me
The passions that build up our human soul,
Not with the mean and vulgar works of man,
But with high objects, with enduring things,
With life and nature, purifying thus
The elements of feeling and of thought,
And sanctifying, by such discipline
Both pain and fear, until we recognize
A grandeur in the beatings of the heart.

(From: Welmek - 7/25/02 – the TeaM from tmarchives.com)
And so I ask you now, what does inspired living mean to you? What inspires you? What makes life adventurous - enjoyable? Where does your spirit dare to lead you? What uplifts your idea of living life each day to the realm of that deeper commitment of contributing something of great value to your fellows and to your civilization?

Dear God,
May my ego consent to allow my Soul to free the Spirit which You have given to me. This I pray.

Welcome by: Pastor Daniel
************************
Greetings my Beloved Sisters and Brothers, and welcome once again to the Church that is Within.

Today, I decided again to put the “Quotes” After the Sermon so that they would be more of an Epilogue to Today's Sermon than a Lead-In for it.

Yesterday I spent about 6 hours writing the “Light and Life Sanctuary” Update that I have been Promising for way too many weeks now… actually it turned out to be the '03 Year in Review, but anyway it's done and is at the end of Today's Sunday Service for any of you who would like to hear about the continuing evolution of our Light and Life Sanctuary.
While writing down the year's accomplishments from my memory (and with reference to the '02 summary), I was kind of amazed to discover how many different fruits now were Growing in the “Faith Garden” and it, in a round about way, inspired today's Service…

The topic of today's Sunday Service, #381, is Growing in Faith…

*******************************************
The Sermon
***********
Today I'd like to talk about “Growing in Faith.”

You may or may not ask, “Are you talking about the Growth OF Faith, or about Growing WITH Faith?”

And my answer to that question would have to be a resounding “Yes!” to both Parts of the question… because in my experience, the Growth OF Faith enhances the ability to Grow ever more With and Through Faith, and Growing With/Through/By Faith invariably in turn Promotes and Supplements the continual Growth Of Faith.

For me, it doesn't really seem like I am Growing (except around the middle maybe ;-), UNLESS I am challenging the validity/reality/truth of my own personal Faith. (By “challenging” I mean “testing” or “trying out” or “seeking” rather than challenging as in a confrontational manner.) I see Faith as “Trying my personal Beliefs on for size and walking out in public with them.” You know, Seeing if those things I believe in actually work in practical application… in Life. Just because I Believe something to be True doesn't actually Make it True. If I keep (hold on to) my Beliefs in my head (mind), then I don't find that I really Grow in my actual experience of Truth and Light and Life. But if I truly try Living/Practicing/Applying them in my everyday actions “as if” they were the Truth, then it results in Growth for me whether I discover my Beliefs were True, or only Partially True, or even if my Beliefs weren't really True at All. Experiencing the un-truth of a particular belief is at the same time, experiencing the Actual Truth, that that belief is un-true. That's a Good thing, because then I don't have to waste precious time anymore believing something that I've found out isn't true in my experience. It's not so much that I have Faith in my Beliefs, as that I have Faith that God will reveal the Truth in spite of any immaturity in my Beliefs. For me, Belief is Talking the Talk – Faith is Walking the Walk.

“Growing in Faith”
What does it mean to You?

Quotes
*******
(From: Leo Tolstoy (1828 - 1910)

Truth, like gold, is to be obtained not by its growth, but by washing away from it all that is not gold.

(From: Susanne Langer (1895 - 1985)
In human life, art may arise from almost any activity, and once it does so, it is launched on a long road of exploration, invention, freedom to the limits of extravagance, interference to the point of frustration, finally discipline, controlling constant change and growth.

(From: Henry Miller (1891 - 1980)
All growth is a leap in the dark, a spontaneous unpremeditated act without the benefit of experience.

(From: Thomas Paine (1737 - 1809)

The harder the conflict, the more glorious the triumph. What we obtain too cheap, we esteem too lightly; it is dearness only that gives everything its value. I love the man that can smile in trouble, that can gather strength from distress and grow brave by reflection. 'Tis the business of little minds to shrink; but he whose heart is firm, and whose conscience approves his conduct, will pursue his principles unto death.

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-100 Section-3)
Man cannot cause growth, but he can supply favorable conditions. Growth is always unconscious, be it physical, intellectual, or spiritual. Love thus grows; it cannot be created, manufactured, or purchased; it must grow. Evolution is a cosmic technique of growth. Social growth cannot be secured by legislation, and moral growth is not had by improved administration. Man may manufacture a machine, but its real value must be derived from human culture and personal appreciation. Man's sole contribution to growth is the mobilization of the total powers of his personality--living faith.

(From: Sharon Salzberg, O Magazine, The Power of Intention, January 2004)
We learn and grow and are transformed not so much by what we do but by why and how we do it.

(From: Gail Sheehy)
If we don't change, we don't grow. If we don't grow, we aren't really living.

(From: Chinese Proverb)
Be not afraid of growing slowly, be afraid only of standing still.

(From: Will - 1/23/94 – the Tallahassee TeaM)
Most humans reach a point somewhere between pure faith and hedging their bets. You may find that you have a backup plan in case the Father fails you. This is the self you must learn to conquer, set aside. To clear yourself by setting your will aside requires that you put aside fear of the future, fears of all sorts, for fear is the very antithesis of trust in the Father. When you are able to get a firm grasp on your faith it will serve you well in all areas of your life. Some of you are familiar with the phrase "leaning on the everlasting arms". There is peace there as your faith in God sustains you through all manner of obstacles and with each obstacle overcome your faith increases. It is a changing, growing thing.

(From: The RSV Bible - Galatians 6:4-9)
But let each one test his own work, and then his reason to boast will be in himself alone and not in his neighbor. For each man will have to bear his own load. Let him who is taught the word share all good things with him who teaches. Do not be deceived; God is not mocked, for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap. For he who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption; but he who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life. And let us not grow weary in well-doing, for in due season we shall reap, if we do not lose heart.

(From: Teacher Daniel - 4/8/93– the S.E. Idaho TeaM)
As you grow through the time you spend in quiet, so do you allow God to reveal Himself to you. And as each revelation is brought into perspective, so, too, does your faith grow, and through your faith are you able to step out and reach out to your brothers and sisters.

(From: The RSV Bible - Thessalonians II 1:3)
We are bound to give thanks to God always for you, brethren, as is fitting, because your faith is growing abundantly, and the love of every one of you for one another is increasing.

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-147 Section-5)
There are tremendous possibilities in each of you for the future. Better by far to have a small but living and growing faith than to be possessed of a great intellect with its dead stores of worldly wisdom and spiritual unbelief."

(From: Eleanor Roosevelt (1884 - 1962)
People grow through experience if they meet life honestly and courageously. This is how character is built.

(From: Mahatma Gandhi (1869 - 1948)
The outward freedom that we shall attain will only be in exact proportion to the inward freedom to which we may have grown at a given moment. And if this is a correct view of freedom, our chief energy must be concentrated on achieving reform from within.

(From: Will - 1/23/94 – the Tallahassee TeaM)
Your days are filled with many small happenings, all of which are opportunities for growth. As you are all aware, you are free to choose how many you will respond to. Each small act does add to your whole as you build your solid base. You can accomplish much if you put your minds to it. We have great faith in you. That is all I have to say. Go forth this week leaning on Him more, trusting in Him more, and see your faith grow. Each of you can reap the benefits from this exercise.

The Light and Life Sanctuary Update – 2003 Year in Review
****************************************************
Things accomplished in 2003:

1.]        Property Logged---Result:
A.] Most of the diseased and beetle infested Pines are gone… Greatly reducing the competition for water/nutrients/sunlight thereby Improving the Environment for the Healthy Pines and Red Fir trees that remain.
B.] Great Overlooking View and Potentials for new Meditation Fruit Gardens and Pathways Revealed.

2.]        6 established Fruit Trees Transplanted and 10 New Fruit Trees Planted:
A.] 3 Bing Cherry Trees transplanted and drip system installed in the newly evolving ¾ acre Upper Garden (#4-Perhaps “The Zen Garden” eventually…); and 2 Plum Trees and 1 Pie Cherry Tree transplanted from the upper part of the Faith Garden to the lower part.
B.] 3 new Semi-Dwarf Fruit trees planted in the lower Faith Garden (#1)… a Red D'Anjou Pear, a Bosc Pear and a Ranier Cherry.
C.] A new Semi-Dwarf “Van” Cherry Tree planted in the Patio/Jacuzzi Garden (#2).
D.] 6 new Semi Dwarf Fruit trees planted (and drip system installed) in the new Garden Area (#3) just North of the Faith Garden… a Chinese Apricot, a New Haven Peach, an Elberta Peach, a “Nitaka” Asian Pear, and 2 Quince trees.

3.]        New Berries and Grapes for 2003:
A.] A New “Waldo” Blackberry Patch planted in Garden #3.
B.] The Red Raspberry Rows (in the Faith Garden) Expanded by 50% over last year.
a.] The Raspberries produced from 7-14 Pounds per day during July '03.
C.] A New Golden Raspberry ( everbearing “Fall Gold”) Row started in the upper Faith Garden.
D.] A new Grape Row created in the Faith Garden with Black Seedless and Green 'American' Grapes (“V. labrusca”-Concord type slipskin grapes). These should reach maturity and full production in about 3 years (2006). The previous row of Grapes (Red and Green slipskins) should reach maturity in 2004, and begin full production in 2005.

4.]        3 New Roses and 5 Bonsai Maples in the Faith Garden
A.] In Memory of our dear sister Susan Kimsey (who had wanted to plant a Rose bush in the Faith Garden in memory of her mother Faith Forman Coulby), we created a small Rose Garden within the upper Faith Garden containing: a Fragrant Red Rose (“Mr. Lincoln”) in Loving Memory of Susan's Mother, and next to it a Fragrant Pink Rose (“Camelot”) in Loving Memory of Susan Kimsey, and The third and final Rose in this small rose garden is a White Rose (“Pristine”), not in memory of, but in Living Tribute To my Dearly Beloved Wife Jill whose Continued Dedication and Hard Work as a Master of Social Work is making the vast majority all of this work at The Light and Life Sanctuary Possible.
B.] Also New in the Faith Garden, nestled in a shallow depression atop a colorful outcropping of Rock we began creating a shallow Bonsai Garden of 5 maple trees overlooked by two little Angels (a Cherubim and Sanobim that I received for Father's Day) setting on a bed of multi-colored Polished Surf Stones. The Maples aren't completely Bonsai'd as of yet, but are in year 1 of the many year process.

5.]        Backhoe Earth-Moving for roads, pathways, access-ramps, gardens:
A.] 60+ Downed logs cleared and processed and roadways/pathways cut and extended through the unnamed/un-themed Garden #3 and the upper portion graded for the Fruit trees and Blackberries that were planted in April.
B.] Access ramps to the upper ¾ acre Zen Garden (#4) ---one 10'H X 15'W X 30'L ramp to the North entrance and one 6'H X 10'W X 25'L ramp into the South entrance of the Garden.
C.] The Access Ramps made it possible to create a roadway/pathway that boarders the Zen Garden's East boundary that now connects them and makes Backhoe access to the entire upper Garden possible. 25% of a new road/path along the Garden's West boundary was cut just before Winter began to set in.
D.] A Log 4-Tiered Bulb Garden (6'high x 6'deep x 14'wide) was made along the side of the North ramp and 4 different colors of Daffodils, and Crocus bulbs were planted in it and should come up this Spring. There is now a 10' high rock cliff about 60-80' long, the top of which defines about 50% of the East boundary of the Zen Garden. Along the upper edge of the cliff we planted 4 different alternating colors of Lilac, and 1 braided Lilac of 3 different colors that I am training into what will appear to be 1 multi-colored Lilac Tree overlooking the tiered bulb garden at the top of the north ramp up.

Present Status:

1.] The Patio Garden is now fully landscaped and nearing it's final completion.
2.] The Faith Garden is now pretty much settled in as much as it is fully enclosed by deer-fence and all of the Fruits it is going to have planted in it are planted where they are going to stay, and the pathways and stairs connecting them all are just about finished. Finish Landscaping of everything Between the trees and the different internal gardens and along the pathways, can now be begun as funds allow. Hopefully the Faith Garden will reach a “maintenance only” level of completion (like the Patio Garden) by 2005 or soon thereafter.
3.] Both Garden #3 and the “Zen” Garden are each only about 10% planted with Fruit (if that), and their next phase will be working toward bringing them to the completion level that the Faith Garden is at now. Before we can do much more in their Planting phases though, we will need to enclose them both with 8' Field Fencing to protect it all from being Ravaged by the local deer and elk population. The Fencing is a project way beyond our means right now, even With 50 year old me doing all of the labor and installation, so it could be a while before we are able to more extensively plant them unless Father Provides a way that we don't know about yet.

Epilogue:

In 2003, All of the Fruit plantings nearly Doubled in size from the previous year and all of the newly planted fruits established themselves well into their new environments. The Raspberries produced faster than we could pick them; the 7 Blueberry bushes more than tripled their previous years fruit production and will likely triple 2003's again in 2004. Our First crop of Awesome “Red Fugi,” “Johnagold,” “Gala,” and “Harlson” Apples and “Red Sensation” Pears was more than we could eat by ourselves and will no doubt also be surpassed in 2004. Although only just planted, the “Nitaka” Asian Pear even gave us about a dozen crisp and juicy fruits and we even got to taste a few early Grapes from our immature vines. 1 Bing Cherry tree and the Montmorency Cherry both had some fruit on them in '03 but the birds beat us to them before they seemed quite ripe.
Though there is a Lot more Interior building work to accomplish here before Spring comes with it's necessary Garden duties and continuing outdoor projects, I'm Really Looking Forward to seeing how even More Abundantly all of the already planted Fruits and flowers will Grow and Flourish and Produce than they did in 2003!!!

Humor of the Week

Life is pleasant. Death is peaceful. It's the transition that's troublesome.

The topic of today's Sunday Service, #382, is Transition…

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-81 Section-6)
Society is the offspring of age upon age of trial and error; it is what survived the selective adjustments and readjustments in the successive stages of mankind's agelong rise from animal to human levels of planetary status. The great danger to any civilization--at any one moment--is the threat of breakdown during the time of transition from the established methods of the past to those new and better, but untried, procedures of the future.

(From: “Stairway to Heaven” - Led Zeppelin)
Yes there are two paths you can go by
but in the long run
There's still time to change the road you're on

(From: The RSV Bible - Romans 12:2)
Do not be conformed to this world but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that you may prove what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-99 Section-1)
The social ship has steamed out of the sheltered bays of established tradition and has begun its cruise upon the high seas of evolutionary destiny; and the soul of man, as never before in the world's history, needs carefully to scrutinize its charts of morality and painstakingly to observe the compass of religious guidance. The paramount mission of religion as a social influence is to stabilize the ideals of mankind during these dangerous times of transition from one phase of civilization to another, from one level of culture to another.

(From: Elyon - 2/15/98– the North Idaho TeaM)
Your world is making progress though it is currently in a rather broad transition zone between older approaches to conflict solving and newer methods for reaching harmony. It is a large arena wherein much confusion and much reaction takes place. This transitional phase can seem like your phrase "one step forward, two steps back". But in reality we make three forward and experience one back. This is because of mankind's insecurities and the obvious lack of planetary guidance due to isolation. How might any one of you contribute to making it through this transition is a question I'm sure you all hold.

(From: Martha Beck - O Magazine, Growing Wings, January 2004)
Any transition serious enough to alter your definition of self will require not just small adjustments in your way of living and thinking but a full-on metamorphosis.

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-159 Section-3)
Forewarn all believers regarding the fringe of conflict which must be traversed by all who pass from the life as it is lived in the flesh to the higher life as it is lived in the spirit. To those who live quite wholly within either realm, there is little conflict or confusion, but all are doomed to experience more or less uncertainty during the times of transition between the two levels of living. In entering the kingdom, you cannot escape its responsibilities or avoid its obligations, but remember: The gospel yoke is easy and the burden of truth is light.
The world is filled with hungry souls who famish in the very presence of the bread of life; men die searching for the very God who lives within them. Men seek for the treasures of the kingdom with yearning hearts and weary feet when they are all within the immediate grasp of living faith. Faith is to religion what sails are to a ship; it is an addition of power, not an added burden of life. There is but one struggle for those who enter the kingdom, and that is to fight the good fight of faith. The believer has only one battle, and that is against doubt--unbelief.

(From: “Stairway to Heaven” - Led Zeppelin)
And it's whispered that soon, if we all call the tune
Then the piper will lead us to reason
And a new day will dawn for those who stand long
And the forest will echo with laughter

And it makes me wonder

The Sermon
***********
The World is in a definite Time/State/Period of Transition…
What it will Transition to…
Depends on You.

It's never really about what “They” should do…
It's always “Truly” about what “I” should do.

What should I do?
Ask God!
Who could possibly know Better?
Who Better to Show me the Way?

*******************************************
The Prayer
**********
Dear God,
When I take time apart to talk things over and share with You, I always feel Better… I'm not quite as confused as I was before… I'm more confident in my direction. Why don't I do it more often? I Must! I Will…

You ALL are Within the Infinitely Loving Embrace of our Universal

The Creator's Infinite Love to all of You,
Pastor Daniel
