(From: Miguel De Cervantes, Don Quixote de la Mancha)
When life itself seems lunatic, who knows where madness lies? Perhaps to be too practical may be madness. To surrender dreams, this may be madness. To seek treasures where there is only trash...Too much sanity may be madness, and maddest of all is to see life as it is and not as it should be.

(From: George Sand)
Guard well within yourself that treasure, kindness. Know how to give without hesitation, how to lose without regret, how to acquire without meanness.

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-165 Section-4)
"Take heed and keep yourselves free from covetousness; a man's life consists not in the abundance of the things which he may possess. Happiness comes not from the power of wealth, and joy springs not from riches. Wealth, in itself, is not a curse, but the love of riches many times leads to such devotion to the things of this world that the soul becomes blinded to the beautiful attractions of the spiritual realities of the kingdom of God on earth and to the joys of eternal life in heaven.”

(From: Benjamin Franklin)
Money never made a man happy yet, nor will it. There is nothing in its nature to produce happiness. The more a man has, the more he wants. Instead of its filling a vacuum, it makes one. If it satisfies one want, it doubles and trebles that want another way. That was a true proverb of the wise man, rely upon it; "Better is little with the fear of the Lord, than great treasure, and trouble therewith."

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-165 Section-5)
"You are only a small group, but if you have faith, if you will not stumble in fear, I declare that it is my Father's good pleasure to give you this kingdom. You have laid up your treasures where the purse waxes not old, where no thief can despoil, and where no moth can destroy. And as I told the people, where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.

The Sermon

Of Money and Material Possessions it is truly said, “You Can't take it With You.”

What then Does one take with them into the Afterlife? Only things of the Soul and of the Spirit… Experiences of Love and of Truth… Experiences of Beauty and of Goodness… Experiences of Friendship and Relationship… Experiences of Learning, Spiritual Growth and Wisdom Earned… These are the Treasures which make one Truly Wealthy. These are the Treasures which determine Success when all is said and done. These are the Treasures which you carry Beyond this world into the Next.

Which Account would you Rather Have Filled at the end of your life?

Which Account do you spend the Most of your time Filling?

Are you Satisfied with your Choice?

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-163 Section-2)
Thus always it was and forever will be: Men must arrive at their own decisions. There is a certain range of the freedom of choice which mortals may exercise. The forces of the spiritual world will not coerce man; they allow him to go the way of his own choosing.

(From: Ayn Rand, Atlas Shrugged, 1957)
The evil of the world is made possible by nothing but the sanction you give it.

(From: Simone Weil, Gravity and Grace, 1947)
Evil when we are in its power is not felt as evil but as a necessity, or even a duty.

(From: Oscar Wilde)
Ordinary riches can be stolen, real riches cannot. In your soul are infinitely precious things that cannot be taken from you.

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-163 Section-2)
Man may not share his supreme loyalty to a spiritual ideal with a material devotion.

(From: The RSV Bible - Luke 8:14)
And as for what fell among the thorns, they are those who hear, but as they go on their way they are choked by the cares and riches and pleasures of life, and their fruit does not mature.

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-163 Section-2)
Almost every human being has some one thing which is held on to as a pet evil, and which the entrance into the kingdom of heaven requires as a part of the price of admission.

The Sermon
***********
Have you something that you “Hold On To” that keeps you from feeling satisfied… or that keeps you uncomfortable with yourself… or that keeps you criticizing yourself… or that keeps you from living your life as you KNOW it Should be lived… or that keeps you from being as Close to God as you Know you Want to be?

The thing you “hold on to” can be one or more of Many different kinds of things.

It can be Money of course. That's a no-brainer answer. But it doesn't have to be about someone who Has money and lets it rule their life. It can Also be about someone who Doesn't have money but thinks that having it is going to be the answer to their problems… is going to make it all better… is going to make it possible to do what is in their Soul to do.

That “hold on to” thing can also be (and quite frequently IS) Control. Not Self-Control mind you, That Cannot be held on to but must be Ever in Motion. Rather, the kind of control that can be held on to in a detrimental way, is control over Another or Others.

Memories of Hurt Feelings is another one of those “hold on to” things… or memories of what Love was once before but is not right now at the moment. Those things can Fester and Infect a Loving Attitude like nobody's business… can't they?

One can “hold on to” the feeling that they know what is Best for someone/anyone/everyone other than their own self. Really now… How many other people know what is Best for YOU?

Childhood is Another thing that people can “hold on to” too hard. Their Own… or that of their Children.

As you can see, I haven't even begun to brush the surface of the list of things that we can “hold on to” that keep us from feeling Good about ourselves.

Do you have any of “those” things hanging around your neck like a Millstone?

What do ya do when in your Soul Searching you discover one of “Those” things manipulating and dictating your life for you? Do you Ignore it? Do you put it away for later hoping it will just disappear before you have to deal with it? Is it something that you Really think you Like about yourself?

A line from a Song by my Good Friend Mark Turnbull is the Best course of action I think… it says:
“LET GO OF THAT THING!”

Greetings my Beloved Sisters and Brothers, and welcome once again to the Church that is Within.

How do you make Sense of your world and Which of your Senses do you Value the most??

********************************************
Quotes
*******
(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-103 Section-6)
When man approaches the study and examination of his universe from the outside, he brings into being the various physical sciences; when he approaches the research of himself and the universe from the inside, he gives origin to theology and metaphysics. The later art of philosophy develops in an effort to harmonize the many discrepancies which are destined at first to appear between the findings and teachings of these two diametrically opposite avenues of approaching the universe of things and beings.

(From: The American Standard Bible - Hebrews 5:12-14)
For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you have need again for someone to teach you the elementary principles of the oracles of God, and you have come to need milk and not solid food. For everyone who partakes only of milk is not accustomed to the word of righteousness, for he is an infant. But solid food is for the mature, who because of practice have their senses trained to discern good and evil.

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-100 Section-4)
In physical life the senses tell of the existence of things; mind discovers the reality of meanings; but the spiritual experience reveals to the individual the true values of life. These high levels of human living are attained in the supreme love of God and in the unselfish love of man. If you love your fellow men, you must have discovered their values. Jesus loved men so much because he placed such a high value upon them. You can best discover values in your associates by discovering their motivation. If some one irritates you, causes feelings of resentment, you should sympathetically seek to discern his viewpoint, his reasons for such objectionable conduct. If once you understand your neighbor, you will become tolerant, and this tolerance will grow into friendship and ripen into love.

The Sermon
***********
Most of us on this world are born with 5 material senses. You know what they are. You've used them and heard about them for as long as you can remember (more likely Longer). They help us to Survive the Material Dangers associated with existence on our material world. For today's purpose of comparison, I will call them the EGO's Senses, because when you think about it, EGO is what helps us to Survive the purely Material Perils of being Human.

Here is the List of them:

EGO - Human-Self/Material-Self
The Sense of        SIGHT
The Sense of        HEARING
The Sense of        SMELL
The Sense of        TASTE
The Sense of        TOUCH

I would like to propose that we Also have 5 Additional and Corresponding SOUL Senses. They are not essential to basic animal survival, but they are Indispensable to the Appreciation of Life and for the Health and Well-Being of our Spirit.

They are:

SOUL - Higher-Self/Spiritual-Self
The Sense of        VISION
The Sense of        MELODY
The Sense of        FRAGRANCE
The Sense of        FLAVOR
The Sense of        FEELING

The EGO Sense of SIGHT lets us see things as they appear on the surface and allows us to visually identify things. It also helps the Physical Self to avoid obvious dangers and to find physical Sustenance and physical Comfort.
The corresponding SOUL Sense of VISION gives us insight into the Purpose and Significance of things. It also helps the Soul Self to avoid mistakes and to find Soul Nourishing Beauty.

The EGO Sense of HEARING lets us hear and recognize Sounds.
The corresponding SOUL Sense of MELODY let's us experience Music and Harmony.

The EGO Sense of SMELL lets us identify the related Odor of something.
The corresponding SOUL Sense of FRAGRANCE allows us to Appreciate the interrelated Essence of a thing.

The EGO Sense of TASTE lets us discriminate between things that are safe for eating and things that are unfit for human consumption… or between things that are appetizing and things that are repulsive.
The corresponding SOUL Sense of FLAVOR allows us to appraise the Charm and Value of that which we ingest.

The EGO Sense of TOUCH lets us differentiate between textures… soft/hard, smooth/rough… and between temperatures… hot/warm/cold. It also allows us to sense pain so that we may recognize that something is not right and needs attention.
The corresponding SOUL Sense of FEELING allows us to experience Love, Compassion, Emotion, Sentiment… and Also the things that Prevent us from experiencing those things.

The EGO Senses may deteriorate over time and with age.
The SOUL Senses are yours to enjoy for Eternity… if only you Will.

Quotes

(From: Andre Gide)
Be faithful to that which exists nowhere but in yourself - and thus make yourself indispensable.

(From: The RSV Bible - Luke 16:10-12)
"He who is faithful in a very little is faithful also in much; and he who is dishonest in a very little is dishonest also in much. If then you have not been faithful in the unrighteous mammon, who will entrust to you the true riches? And if you have not been faithful in that which is another's, who will give you that which is your own?

(From: Machiventa - The Toormina, Australia TeaM)
"It is easy to say you have Faith, but very hard to exercise this Faith in meaningful decisions. A lot of our people still believe that God is a vengeful God. And these individuals certainly cannot have enough Faith in Him to bring about the changes they need to make in their lives.”

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-100 Section-4)
Through the appropriation of the faith of Jesus, mortal man can foretaste in time the realities of eternity. Jesus made the discovery, in human experience, of the Final Father, and his brothers in the flesh of mortal life can follow him along this same experience of Father discovery. They can even attain, as they are, the same satisfaction in this experience with the Father as did Jesus as he was.

(From: Mahatma Gandhi)
You must not lose faith in humanity. Humanity is an ocean; if a few drops of the ocean are dirty, the ocean does not become dirty.

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-170 Section-3)
It is in the consideration of the technique of receiving God's forgiveness that the attainment of the righteousness of the kingdom is revealed. Faith is the price you pay for entrance into the family of God; but forgiveness is the act of God which accepts your faith as the price of admission. And the reception of the forgiveness of God by a kingdom believer involves a definite and actual experience and consists in the following four steps, the kingdom steps of inner righteousness:
1. God's forgiveness is made actually available and is personally experienced by man just in so far as he forgives his fellows.
2. Man will not truly forgive his fellows unless he loves them as himself.
3. To thus love your neighbor as yourself is the highest ethics.
4. Moral conduct, true righteousness, becomes, then, the natural result of such love.

(From: Jackie Mason)
By these things examine thyself. By whose rules am I acting; in whose name; in whose strength; in whose glory? What faith, humility, self-denial, and love of God and to man have there been in all my actions?

(From: Saint Francis of Assisi)
Where there is hatred, let me sow love. Where there is injury, pardon. Where there is doubt, faith.

(From: George E. Woodberry)
If you can't have faith in what is held up to you for faith, you must find things to believe in yourself, for a life without faith in something is too narrow a space to live.

(From: Author Unknown)
Faith is like electricity. You can't see it, but you can see the light.

(From: Tyron Edwards)
Science has sometimes been said to be opposed to faith, and inconsistent with it. But all science, in fact, rests on a basis of faith, for it assumes the permanence and uniformity of natural laws - a thing which can never be demonstrated

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-194 Section-3)
Many things which happen in the course of a human life are hard to understand, difficult to reconcile with the idea that this is a universe in which truth prevails and in which righteousness triumphs. It so often appears that slander, lies, dishonesty, and unrighteousness--sin--prevail. Does faith, after all, triumph over evil, sin, and iniquity? It does. And the life and death of Jesus are the eternal proof that the truth of goodness and the faith of the spirit-led creature will always be vindicated. They taunted Jesus on the cross, saying, "Let us see if God will come and deliver him." It looked dark on that day of the crucifixion, but it was gloriously bright on the resurrection morning; it was still brighter and more joyous on the day of Pentecost. The religions of pessimistic despair seek to obtain release from the burdens of life; they crave extinction in endless slumber and rest. These are the religions of primitive fear and dread. The religion of Jesus is a new gospel of faith to be proclaimed to struggling humanity. This new religion is founded on faith, hope, and love.

(From: Cardinal Richard Cushing)
For centuries now we've tried everything else; the power of wealth, of mighty armies and navies, machinations of diplomats. All have failed. Before it's too late, and time is running out, let us turn from trust in the chain reactions of exploding atoms to faith of the chain reaction of God's love. Love - love of God and fellow men. That is God's formula for peace. Peace on earth to men of good will.

(From: The RSV Bible - Matthew 9:29)
Then he touched their eyes, saying, "According to your faith be it done to you."

The Sermon
***********
God, the Divine Parent of my Spirit, wants Only what is the Very Best for me and for you and for All. This was one of the most Significant Faith Realizations that I can remember ever having. It Hit me like a Ton of Bricks the moment my Faith Accepted that as Fact. It changed my perspective on Everything! What almost Instantaneously followed was Another… “I want what is best for me Too!”; “I want for me what God wants for me!”; “Then… God's Will should be My will Too!” DOH… Ya THINK?

When I Remember this, I am not so let down when I discover that what I had Hoped was God's Will either really Wasn't God's Will, or else it was not yet time for it to be Manifest to serve the Greatest Good. If it was Not God's Will for me at the time, then it truly wasn't Mine Either. “Darn… Oh Well… It Must be Best… What's Next God?”

Never, before those Faith Realizations, had I such Inner Assurance in my life… I never before had experienced such overpowering convictions of Hope… I never before Dared to Fearlessly Pursue my Inner Dreams. Now I Do.

Wholehearted Faith Reveals Truth, Illuminates Beauty, Generates Goodness, Allows the Flow of Love and Generates Inner Peace. Genuine Faith Reveals to you that You are a Beloved Child of God. Courageous Faith encourages you to Assume your Position as a Confirmed and Valued Member of God's Family. Childlike Faith Rewards one with New Discoveries of Wonder and Unquenchable Excitement.

Discovering God's Will for yourself in Each Moment is “The Ultimate Adventure Ride!!!” It's Guaranteed to be the Ride of Your Life! Faith-Tickets are Free for the Asking. When one inadvertently or intentionally gets Off of the Ride, only another Faith-Ticket can get them back On again.
(WARNING: Once you get On this ride, Nothing Less will Ever completely Satisfy you ever again.)

Feel Adventuresome? Ride the RIDE! And… Hey!… Hang On to Your Faith! You're going to Need it!

(From: Thomas J. Watson)
Follow the path of the unsafe, independent thinker. Expose your ideas to the dangers of controversy. Speak your mind and fear less the label of 'crackpot' than the stigma of conformity. And on issues that seem important to you, stand up and be counted at any cost.

(From: Confucius - 551-479 BC)
The superior man...does not set his mind either for anything, or against anything; what is right he will follow.

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-196 Section-1)
To "follow Jesus" means to personally share his religious faith and to enter into the spirit of the Master's life of unselfish service for man.

(From: The Nashville TeaM - Ham 7-22-01)
Rejoice then and be exceedingly glad for the Master's arm is about your shoulder and his word of encouragement speaks to your ear. Follow me, says he. Follow me. Allow his hope to fill your hearts, allow his love to comfort your minds. Allow his footsteps to guide the way. Be unafraid to follow wheresoever he will lead you. Have complete faith and a steady heart.

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-133 Section-4)
"Worship only God, who is your true spirit ancestor. Remember that the Father's spirit ever lives within you and always points your soul-direction heavenward. If you follow the unconscious leadings of this immortal spirit, you are certain to continue on in the uplifted way of finding God. And when you do attain the Father in heaven, it will be because by seeking him you have become more and more like him.

(From: Socrates)
The end of life is to be like God, and the soul following God will be like Him.

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-143 Section-2)
"If, then, my children, you are born of the spirit, you are forever delivered from the self-conscious bondage of a life of self-denial and watchcare over the desires of the flesh, and you are translated into the joyous kingdom of the spirit, whence you spontaneously show forth the fruits of the spirit in your daily lives; and the fruits of the spirit are the essence of the highest type of enjoyable and ennobling self-control, even the heights of terrestrial mortal attainment--true self-mastery."

(From: The RSV Bible - John 8:12)
Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, "I am the light of the world; he who follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life."

(From: Buddha, The Dharmapada)
We are shaped by our thoughts; we become what we think. When the mind is pure, joy follows like a shadow that never leaves.

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-181 Section-1)
"Peace be upon you. That which my Father sent me into the world to establish belongs not to a race, a nation, nor to a special group of teachers or preachers. This gospel of the kingdom belongs to both Jew and gentile, to rich and poor, to free and bond, to male and female, even to the little children. And you are all to proclaim this gospel of love and truth by the lives which you live in the flesh. You shall love one another with a new and startling affection, even as I have loved you. You will serve mankind with a new and amazing devotion, even as I have served you. And when men see you so love them, and when they behold how fervently you serve them, they will perceive that you have become faith-fellows of the kingdom of heaven, and they will follow after the Spirit of Truth which they see in your lives, to the finding of eternal salvation.

The need to find something or someone else to follow diminishes proportionally with one's personal experience of following the inner leadings of God toward Truth, Beauty Goodness and Love.

Follow God, Find Everything.
