Welcome by: Pastor Daniel

Greetings my Beloved Sisters and Brothers, and welcome once again to the Church that is Within.

About a year and a half ago, I misplaced our digital camera that I used to periodically update the pictures of “The Light and Life Sanctuary” on our churchwithin.org Web-Site. We never found it, and that is the reason that the most recent pictures there are from 2004. Well… a few weeks back a Beloved Brother solved that problem for us and we are now able to take digital pictures again so that you may see the progress of what is evolving here!
But First… we must deal with the weeds that entrenched themselves due to the last three consecutive Springs and early Summers wherein I was kept pretty much incapacitated by hip and lower back injuries. This year so far though I've managed to avoid re-injuring myself and have been working with Jill and Danny to try and get the weed population down to a more manageable size. The Faith Garden should be ready for pictures again within a couple of weeks. At that point, I will give you a more thorough “Light and Life Sanctuary Update.”

The Fruits that we have planted here over the past 6 years continue to Flourish!

The topic of today's Sunday Service, #506, is Harmony…

Quotes
*******
(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-111 Section-6)
Science is the source of facts, and mind cannot operate without facts. They are the building blocks in the construction of wisdom which are cemented together by life experience. Man can find the love of God without facts, and man can discover the laws of God without love, but man can never begin to appreciate the infinite symmetry, the supernal harmony, the exquisite repleteness of the all-inclusive nature of the First Source and Center until he has found divine law and divine love and has experientially unified these in his own evolving cosmic philosophy.

(From: Sidney Madwed)
Most people receive very little training on how to live effectively and harmoniously with themselves and others. This I believe is an unfortunate outcome of our parenting beliefs and methods, as well as society's educational systems. It seems to me these beliefs and systems empathize academic and vocational skills and place little or no emphasis or value on providing a person with the essential skills to live a life of personal fulfillment, contribution and self actualization. I believe it would be a safe assumption that the great majority of people work at jobs in which they find very little personal satisfaction. Without proper training on how to make wise choices in one's life, the chances are very slim anyone will make them.

(From: Carl Sagan (1934 - 1996)
The universe is not required to be in perfect harmony with human ambition.

(From: The Tao Te Ching - #32)
If powerful men and women
could remain centered in the Tao,
all things would be in harmony.
The world would become a paradise.
All people would be at peace,
and the law would be written in their hearts.

When you have names and forms,
know that they are provisional.
When you have institutions,
know where their functions should end.
Knowing when to stop,
you can avoid any danger.

All things end in the Tao
as rivers flow into the sea.

(From: Mahatma Gandhi (1869 - 1948)
Happiness is when what you think, what you say, and what you do are in harmony.

(From: Albert Camus (1913 - 1960)
But what is happiness except the simple harmony between a man and the life he leads.

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-48 Section-7)
Righteousness strikes the harmony chords of truth, and the melody vibrates throughout the cosmos, even to the recognition of the Infinite.

(From: Mahatma Gandhi (1869 - 1948)
Always aim at complete harmony of thought and word and deed. Always aim at purifying your thoughts and everything will be well.

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-140 Section-8)
The Master came to create in man a new spirit, a new will--to impart a new capacity for knowing the truth, experiencing compassion, and choosing goodness--the will to be in harmony with God's will, coupled with the eternal urge to become perfect, even as the Father in heaven is perfect.

(From: The Tao Te Ching - #39)
In harmony with the Tao,
the sky is clear and spacious,
the earth is solid and full,
all creature flourish together,
content with the way they are,
endlessly repeating themselves,
endlessly renewed.

(From: Albert Einstein (1879 - 1955)
God reveals himself in the orderly harmony of what exists.

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-44 Section-1)
Harmony, the music of the seven levels of melodious association, is the one universal code of spirit communication.

(From: Etty Hilsum)
One must marry one's feelings to one's beliefs and ideas. That is probably the only way to achieve a measure of harmony in one's life.

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-118 Section-10)
Providence becomes increasingly discernible as men reach upward from the material to the spiritual. The attainment of completed spiritual insight enables the ascending personality to detect harmony in what was theretofore chaos.

(From: Sir Thomas Browne (1605 - 1682)
For there is music wherever there is harmony, order and proportion; and thus far we may maintain the music of the spheres; for those well ordered motions, and regular paces, though they give no sound unto the ear, yet to the understanding they strike a note most full of harmony.

(From: Plato (427 BC - 347 BC)
Musical training is a more potent instrument than any other, because rhythm and harmony find their way into the inward places of the soul, on which they mightily fasten imparting grace.

(From: The Tao Te Ching - #35)
She who is centered in the Tao
can go where she wishes, without danger.
She perceives the universal harmony,
even amid great pain,
because she has found peace in her heart.

Music or the smell of good cooking
may make people stop and enjoy.
But words that point to the Tao
seem monotonous and without flavor.
When you look for it, there is nothing to see.
When you listen for it, there is nothing to hear.
When you use it, it is inexhaustible.

(From: Henry Ward Beecher (1813 - 1887)
Our days are a kaleidoscope. Every instant a change takes place in the contents. New harmonies, new contrasts, new combinations of every sort. Nothing ever happens twice alike. The most familiar people stand each moment in some new relation to each other, to their work, to surrounding objects. The most tranquil house, with the most serene inhabitants, living upon the utmost regularity of system, is yet exemplifying infinite diversities.

(From: The RSV Bible - Romans 12:16-18)
Live in harmony with one another; do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly; never be conceited. Repay no one evil for evil, but take thought for what is noble in the sight of all. If possible, so far as it depends upon you, live peaceably with all.

The Sermon

“Let's see… I'd like 'Harmony' for 2000 please.”

“And the Jeopardy answer Is… the 'Daily Double'!!!”
“You have all of the Personal Memories, Experiences and Perceptions that have defined your Understanding of Life up until right now. You are in third place at the moment. You may wager a part of it, or you can make it a 'True Daily Double' by wagering All of it… What would you like to do?”

“I think I'm going to make it a 'True Daily Double' today… put it all out there.”

“OK… this will give you a healthy lead if you give us the correct question.”
“Here is the Answer:

In Truth
In Beauty
In Goodness…

In Faith
In Hope
In Trust…

In Harmony
In Balance
In Love.”

“OK… Let's see… What is… 'How may I best live my life to it's fullest potential, for my own personal and spiritual growth and happiness, for the benefit of those close to me and indeed for all humankind and… in honor and in respect and in gratitude to the Parental and Infinite Source of All that Is?'

“That is Correct! [in the background: “Ding-Ding Ding-Ding”] …and sound That puts us into our Final Jeopardy Round!”

Harmony.
It's not about uniformity…
It's about a Unity of Diversity.

The topic of today's Sunday Service, #507, is Trust and Faith…

*******************************************
The Sermon
***********
Faith is a Simple act in Trust.

Trust that when you step, you are going in the right direction.
…Faith steps will always take you forward.

Trust that taking the first step will always show you the next.
…Faith makes each step the First; every step the Next.

Trust that if you fall down, you may get back up & try again.
…Faith will not let you stay down for very long.

Trust that you will Succeed.
…Faith allows you to do so and entices you to try.

Trust that you have a purpose in God's plan.
         …Faith steps reveal it.

Trust that it is more Grand than you can Possibly imagine.
…Faith creates the opportunity for delightful surprises.

Trust that you are Cared for and Loved and will be Guided.
…Faith Proves that it is True.

Belief is intellectual... Faith is Experiential.
Belief "knows" it... Faith lives it.

Faith can move a Mountain...
Even if it is but one pebble or grain of sand at a time.

Act in Faith.

"If not Now… then When?"

(From: e e cummings (1894 - 1962)
To be nobody but yourself in a world which is doing its best day and night to make you like everybody else means to fight the hardest battle which any human being can fight and never stop fighting.

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-102 Section-8)
The highest evidence of the reality and efficacy of religion consists in the fact of human experience; namely, that man, naturally fearful and suspicious, innately endowed with a strong instinct of self-preservation and craving survival after death, is willing fully to trust the deepest interests of his present and future to the keeping and direction of that power and person designated by his faith as God. That is the one central truth of all religion. As to what that power or person requires of man in return for this watchcare and final salvation, no two religions agree; in fact, they all more or less disagree.

(From: Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803 - 1882)
All our progress is an unfolding, like a vegetable bud. You have first an instinct, then an opinion, then a knowledge as the plant has root, bud, and fruit. Trust the instinct to the end, though you can render no reason.

(From: Johann Wolfgang von Goethe (1749 - 1832), Faust)
As soon as you trust yourself, you will know how to live.

(From: Sharon Salzberg - O Magazine, The Power of Intention, January 2004)

Any ordinary favor we do for someone or any compassionate reaching out may seem to be going nowhere at first, but may be planting a seed we can't see right now. Sometimes we need to just do the best we can and then trust in an unfolding we can't design or ordain.

(From: Alan Watts)
Faith is, above all, openness; an act of trust in the unknown.

The topic of today's Sunday Service, #508, is Communication…

*******************************************
The Sermon
***********
Talking doesn't always require communication.
and…
Communication doesn't always require talking.

Does it ever seem like to you that there is a Whole Lot of Talking going on and very little True Communication? Wouldn't it be nice if rather there was a Whole Lot of Communication going on and a lot less Talking?

Our Eyes are masters at communication. So also is our body language and our attitude. Those three observed together, convey many messages without ever a single word being said. Talking Can be an excellent form of communication… don't get me wrong… it just isn't always used that way.

Communication actually requires the voluntary participation of two ore more individuals… whereas talking, really only takes one.

Have you ever noticed that the ego is quite a talker but not always a very good communicator? Why is that do you think? I was contemplating upon it and came up with… Perhaps it is because ego is an atrocious Listener and there is no true communication without genuine mutual listening as well as speaking.

Something else I was thinking about…

What about that “Internal Dialogue” that goes on inside our minds all the time?
What's that all about?
Sure… we can turn it off from time to time in meditation or stillness or, sometimes even from pure Awe, but it comes back eventually, mostly sooner rather than later wouldn't you say?
So… who is it truly that you are talking To? Is it yourself? Is it your Soul or Higher Self or Spirit? Is it God, The Creator, The Infinite Source? Sometimes we call it, “Oh, I'm just thinking.” Or, “Oh, nothing.”, but you were talking to some Other if you really Think about it, Weren't you? Why is this so Universal to mankind? Is it just talking, or is it an unconscious attempt at Communication?

There are many belief systems in the world that do not recognize The Source as being a Personal Being. How indeed could it be then that We are personal beings? From where then does one's Personality come if not from the Source and personification of Total Personality? To whom then would their Personal Internal Dialogue be directed?

What about Atheists… who do they think They are talking to inside their minds?

Try this exercise for about five minutes or so…
Just sit there and don't try to turn off the internal dialogue… instead just let it flow on unhampered. Listen to the words without trying to analyze or judge them.

How long was it before you asked some type of a question? Where were you expecting the Answer to come from? Did you get an answer? Did you actually Listen for an answer?

Internal Dialogue, when you think about it, really Does have a Lot of questions… doesn't it? Are there Answers out there… or even Within?

Who do you think You're talking to?

(From: Donella Meadows, The Global Citizen)
Your paradigm is so intrinsic to your mental process that you are hardly aware of its existence, until you try to communicate with someone with a different paradigm.

(From: Peter Drucker (1909 - 2005)
The most important thing in communication is to hear what isn't being said.

(From: Robert Greenleaf)
Many attempts to communicate are nullified by saying too much.

(From: Leo Rosten (1908 -)
Extremists think "communication" means agreeing with them.

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-133 Section-4)
"My brother, I perceive you are seeking for truth, and I suggest that the spirit of the Father of all truth may chance to dwell within you. Did you ever sincerely endeavor to talk with the spirit of your own soul? Such a thing is indeed difficult and seldom yields consciousness of success; but every honest attempt of the material mind to communicate with its indwelling spirit meets with certain success, notwithstanding that the majority of all such magnificent human experiences must long remain as superconscious registrations

(From: George Washington Carver (1864 - 1943)
Anything will give up its secrets if you love it enough. Not only have I found that when I talk to the little flower or to the little peanut they will give up their secrets, but I have found that when I silently commune with people they give up their secrets also - if you love them enough.

(From: Paulo Coelho)

To love is to commune with another person and to discover in him or her a divine spark.

It's Judgment Day

The topic of today's Sunday Service, #509, is Judgment…

[Usually I use all of the “Quotes” before the Sermon and sometimes I use them after it. Today I have decided to do something a little different and selectively insert them within the Sermon. I hope you will not judge me too harshly for this temporary change of venue.]

*******************************************
The Sermon
***********
I hope you didn't eagerly rush to the Sermon thinking that I was going to be talking about some hypothetical or theoretical or theological, Armageddon like, end of the world type, “Last Judgment Day” in today's Sermon, because I Really hate to disappoint anyone… even you. ;-)

Truthfully and as simply put as possible, I don't believe in it. The end of “An Age” or of the world “As We Know It” sure… in fact I pray for That every Day. The end of the Age of greed and selfishness, of hatred, violence, prejudice, fear and ignorance is indeed Long Overdue, and truly, that Is the World as we Know it, is it not? If we lived in a world based solely upon Love and Respect and Trust, now wouldn't that adhere more to the “on Earth as it is in Heaven” thing?

(From: Albert Camus (1913 - 1960)
I shall tell you a great secret, my friend. Do not wait for the last judgment. It takes place every day.

*****

Neither am I going to expound (much) upon the “Judge Not” nor the “Judgment is Mine sayeth the Lord” type of Judgment today other than to insert here a few of the quotes that came up in my search (though God Knows it's Needed right now in a lot of areas).

(From: The RSV Bible - Luke 6:37-38)
"Judge not, and you will not be judged; condemn not, and you will not be condemned; forgive, and you will be forgiven; give, and it will be given to you; good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap. For the measure you give will be the measure you get back."

(From: White Eagle)
Say little, and love much; give all; judge no man; aspire to all that is pure and good.

(From: Richard Cecil)
We ought not to judge of men's merits by their qualifications, but by the use they make of them.

(From: Georg Christoph Lichtenberg (1742 - 1799)
Don't judge a man by his opinions, but what his opinions have made of him.

(From: John Ballantine Gough)
A man is what he is, not what men say he is. His character no man can touch. His character is what he is before his God and his Judge; and only he himself can damage that. His reputation's what men say he is. That can be damaged; but reputation is for time, character is for eternity

(From: “Jesus” - The Urantia Papers - Paper-157 Section-2)
“Judge justly, even mercifully, even as you shall some day thus crave merciful consideration at the hands of the Supreme Arbiter. Judge as you would be judged under similar circumstances, thus being guided by the spirit of the law as well as by its letter. And even as you accord justice dominated by fairness in the light of the need of those who are brought before you, so shall you have the right to expect justice tempered by mercy when you sometime stand before the Judge of all the earth."

(From: Eric Hoffer (1902 - 1983)
We find it hard to apply the knowledge of ourselves to our judgment of others. The fact that we are never of one kind, that we never love without reservations and never hate with all our being cannot prevent us from seeing others as wholly black or white.

(From: Mother Teresa (1910 - 1997)
If you judge people, you have no time to love them.

(From: Albert Einstein (1879 - 1955)
Whoever undertakes to set himself up as a judge of Truth and Knowledge is shipwrecked by the laughter of the Gods.

*****

So what version of Judgment AM I going to talk about today? Well…

Judgment can be a Good thing when it is used as Discernment for Personal Decision Making or Personal Growth or in the Personal attainment of Wisdom and Maturity. In fact, the ability to use Good Judgment is rather crucial to these things… wouldn't you think?

We each learn Good Judgment (or not…) on our own merit and by our own personal efforts. Making a Judgment about how other persons should live their own unique lives… is Bad Judgment. We know not all of the intimate circumstances and experiences that make up the lives of our fellows… that have lead them to become as they are… that have inspired them to believe as they do. Truthfully, most of us remain pretty much unaware of exactly how our Own life circumstances and experiences inevitably affect what we do and what we do and what we believe. Rather silly to attempt to Judge for another when our own Personal Judgments for ourselves is yet Far Short of Perfection… Don't you Think?

(From: Marcus Aurelius Antoninus (121 AD - 180 AD)
If you are pained by external things, it is not they that disturb you, but your own judgment of them. And it is in your power to wipe out that judgment now.

(From: Barry LePatner)
Good judgment comes from experience, and experience comes from bad judgment.

(From: Dandemis)
Do not condemn the judgment of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

(From: Leonardo da Vinci (1452 - 1519), Notebooks)
Experience does not ever err. It is only your judgment that errs in promising itself results which are not caused by your experiments.

(From: Sidney Madwed)
Since every judgment is only an opinion based on the limited information at hand, filtered through one's personal value system, it might be safe to assume no two people will judge anything exactly the same. Even concepts of right and wrong, good or bad, good or bad morals and ethics are only opinions, for what may be good in one case may be a disaster in another.

(From: Ayn Rand (1905 - 1982), The Fountianhead )

Morality is judgment to distinguish right and wrong, vision to see the truth, courage to act upon it, dedication to that which is good, and integrity to stand by it at any price.

(From: The RSV Bible - Luke 12:57)
"And why do you not judge for yourselves what is right?

*******************************************
The Prayer
**********
Dear God,
When I sit before You on “Judgment Day” I pray that I will have used Good Judgment far more often than I had used bad.

"Love is like a little old woman and a little old man who are still friends even after they know each other so well."
(From: Tommy - age 6)

********************************************
Welcome by: Pastor Daniel
************************
Greetings my Beloved Sisters and Brothers, and welcome once again to the Church that is Within.

Whew! What a tough Week…

The topic of today's Sunday Service, #510, is Submission…

*******************************************
The Sermon
***********
Do/Have you ever have/had one of those weeks where you're feeling pretty good and fairly ahead of “the Things of this world” and all of a sudden a bit of unexpected fortune passes your way?

And so… ya' start thinkin' about that “___________” you kind of were contemplating that you needed or about completing some project that has been on hold, and Then… UP Pops some unexpected Malady or essential Maintenance Requirement, or the like, that pretty much wipes out the advantage you thought that you had… Perchance, even takes you a little further down into the “pit” than what would by most, be considered comfortable?

Don't you Hate when that Happens?

Well… that was my last week or so. I bought New Glasses (so I could see again) Yay!… Then… both of our vehicles had a few fairly serious problems (creative mechanic shopping saved a few hundred dollars) we're not dead Yet!… and to add insult to injury… the Church Computer fried (fortunately the Hard Drive survived intact) our meager savings are dwindling towards “start all over again” time…

And so………
I got to musing……

“Why does this have to happen Every Time we get a little ahead?”
[This particular response still pretty much comes first every time for me, doesn't it for you?]

then I remembered…

“OK… so… What Is It I Need To Learn Here???” “Show me the Valuable Lesson that I have the opportunity of acquiring here, so that I may find it's 'Gift', gain a tiny bit wisdom from it, and continue on my Journey, Stronger and more Able than I was before.”
[Now this particular pondering was 'The Gift' (does not come pre- assembled… batteries not included), from a similar scenario in the not all too distant past. Since I finally got the pieces put together and earned some 'batteries' for it, it has served quite well in the intervening years between then and now, as a valuable technique for avoiding the depression and despair, the anger and fear, the gloom and the hopelessness that were the normal reactions previous to its acquirement. When I forget to re-charge the 'Spiritual Batteries' though, it takes me a while to re-charge them before I can use it again.]

then I approached…

“If this is Your Will for me God, then I know that it is for my Soul's Greater Good and I Welcome it! Help me to better adjust my will, to Your Will. I Submit myself to Your Guidance, Lead On!”
[Now This one… This one is the Energy Source for Re-Charging the Batteries. I thought initially that the battery charge would last a lifetime without re-charging, but it doesn't. It may get you through a few good uses, but indeed it does not last forever (discovering this fact was yet another, though less exciting, 'Gift' of acquirement that led me to search for and find the Greater 'Gift' of Renewable Energy from the Source). Now I can Re-Charge when I need to… though I still don't always manage to remember to plug it back in again before the batteries are depleted… OH!!! OK! That's the current 'Gift'! Always Keep It Plugged Into The Charger between uses!!!]

so Now…

“I will be in Submission to None other than You dear Lord… but to You my submission is total and unreserved. It is My will that Your Will Be Done!”

“I Submit to Love.”

Quotes
*******
(From: Frederick Douglass (1817 - 1895)
Find out just what people will submit to, and you have found out the exact amount of injustice and wrong which will be imposed upon them; and these will continue until they are resisted with either words or blows, or both. The limits of tyrants are prescribed by the endurance of those whom they oppress.

(From: Les Brown - June 2004)
Fear does not have any special power unless you empower it by submitting to it.

(From: Albert Einstein (1879 - 1955)
Great spirits have always found violent opposition from mediocrities. The latter cannot understand it when a man does not thoughtlessly submit to hereditary prejudices but honestly and courageously uses his intelligence.

(From: Ham 11/24/2002 – the Nashville TeaM)
No human being exists who is not in need of spiritual regeneration, growth, and change. All people require help to accomplish the process of gradual submission to their higher selves.

(From: Abraham 1/20/97 – the Woods Cross TeaM)
Many times mortals worry for loss of identity due to submitting personal will to God the Father. I can guarantee you that this submission takes not from you. The releasing of mortal concerns into Father's care takes nothing away from your unique soul personality that is you. The submission to Father is a show of true spiritual character strength. It takes a strong individual to allow Father to watch over their most important affairs in mortal living.

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-117 Section-5)
When the creature submits to the will of the Creator, he does not submerge or surrender his personality; the individual personality participants in the actualization of the finite God do not lose their volitional selfhood by so functioning. Rather are such personalities progressively augmented by participation in this great Deity adventure; by such union with divinity man exalts, enriches, spiritualizes, and unifies his evolving self to the very threshold of supremacy.
