However bad I may be, I am the child of God, and therein lies my blame. Ah, I would not lose my blame! In my blame lies my hope.

(From: George MacDonald (1824-1905)

Welcome by: Pastor Daniel
************************
Greetings my Beloved Sisters and Brothers, and welcome once again to the Church that is Within.

Everyone is looking for it.
But too few ever really Find it…

The topic of today's Sunday Service, #611, is Satisfaction…
*******************************************
The Sermon
***********
What is it truly that one is looking for when seeking genuine Satisfaction?

So often we are tempted to imagine that Satisfaction is achieved through the acquirement of certain things that we think we want. “Yes! Once I have that, Then, I will Really be satisfied.” Never completely though, right? Never permanent… How many times of experiencing the same results over and over and over again does it take to realize that True Satisfaction does not come from “Things?”

It is my experience that the true feelings of Satisfaction for me, come from that inner sense of Attainment… of personal Accomplishment… of Achievement in those times that I have been successful in “Letting Go and Letting God” …those times when I have felt in Harmony with God's Will rather than in opposition to it. These experiences of Satisfaction do not deteriorate as do all material acquisitions and possessions. These Treasures of the Soul are the “Riches” that you truly Can and Do take with you into the next life.

Co-Partnership with God is the Ultimate Satisfaction…

(From: Elbert Hubbard (1856 - 1915)

The recipe for perpetual ignorance is: be satisfied with your opinions and content with your knowledge.

(From: C. S. Lewis (1898 - 1963), Mere Christianity)
If we discover a desire within us that nothing in this world can satisfy, also we should begin to wonder if perhaps we were created for another world.

(From: The RSV Bible - Psalm 17:15)
As for me, I shall behold thy face in righteousness; when I awake, I shall be satisfied with beholding thy form.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-1 Section-6)
You can argue over opinions about God, but experience with him and in him exists above and beyond all human controversy and mere intellectual logic. The God-knowing man describes his spiritual experiences, not to convince unbelievers, but for the edification and mutual satisfaction of believers.

(From: Pythagoras (582 BC - 507 BC)
Rest satisfied with doing well, and leave others to talk of you as they please.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-39 Section-4)
There is no material reward for righteous living, but there is profound satisfaction--consciousness of achievement--and this transcends any conceivable material reward.

(From: The RSV Bible - Matthew 5:6 )
"Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.

(From: C. S. Lewis (1898 - 1963), Pilgrim's Regress)
When you reach the thing you were desiring, if it doesn't satisfy you, it was not what you were desiring.

(From: The ASB Bible - Psalm 107:9)
For He has satisfied the thirsty soul, And the hungry soul He has filled with what is good.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-156 Section-5)
The less of love in any creature's nature, the greater the love need, and the more does divine love seek to satisfy such need. Love is never self-seeking, and it cannot be self-bestowed. Divine love cannot be self-contained; it must be unselfishly bestowed.

(From: George MacDonald (1824-1905)
A Parent must respect the spiritual person of his child, and approach it with reverence, for that too looks the Father in the face and has an audience with Him into which no earthly parent can enter even if he dared to desire it.

(From: Anatole France (1844 - 1924)
The whole art of teaching is only the art of awakening the natural curiosity of young minds for the purpose of satisfying it afterwards.

(From: Wayne Dyer)
Love is the ability and willingness to allow those that you care for to be what they choose for themselves without any insistence that they satisfy you.

Greetings my Beloved Sisters and Brothers, and welcome once again to the Church that is Within.

For some reason, I got the “Bump” to separate today's quotes into two different segments, the first coming before the Sermon, and the second coming after it. We'll see how it works out…

The topic of today's Sunday Service, #612, is Rebirth…

Quotes
*******
(From: The RSV Bible - John 3:3-4)
Jesus answered him, "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born anew, he cannot see the kingdom of God."
Nicode'mus said to him, "How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother's womb and be born?"

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-142 Section-6)
Jesus said: "Nevertheless, I declare to you, except a man be born of the spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the spirit is spirit. But you should not marvel that I said you must be born from above. When the wind blows, you hear the rustle of the leaves, but you do not see the wind--whence it comes or whither it goes--and so it is with everyone born of the spirit. With the eyes of the flesh you can behold the manifestations of the spirit, but you cannot actually discern the spirit."

(From: Dante Alighieri (1265 - 1321), The Divine Comedy)
Consider your origin; you were not born to live like brutes, but to follow virtue and knowledge.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-143 Section-2)
"Verily, verily, I say to you, he who rules his own self is greater than he who captures a city. Self-mastery is the measure of man's moral nature and the indicator of his spiritual development. In the old order you fasted and prayed; as the new creature of the rebirth of the spirit, you are taught to believe and rejoice. In the Father's kingdom you are to become new creatures; old things are to pass away; behold I show you how all things are to become new. And by your love for one another you are to convince the world that you have passed from bondage to liberty, from death into life everlasting.
"By the old way you seek to suppress, obey, and conform to the rules of living; by the new way you are first transformed by the Spirit of Truth and thereby strengthened in your inner soul by the constant spiritual renewing of your mind, and so are you endowed with the power of the certain and joyous performance of the gracious, acceptable, and perfect will of God. Forget not--it is your personal faith in the exceedingly great and precious promises of God that ensures your becoming partakers of the divine nature. Thus by your faith and the spirit's transformation, you become in reality the temples of God, and his spirit actually dwells within you. If, then, the spirit dwells within you, you are no longer bondslaves of the flesh but free and liberated sons of the spirit. The new law of the spirit endows you with the liberty of self-mastery in place of the old law of the fear of self-bondage and the slavery of self-denial.

(From: The laws of Manu)

Depend not on another, but lean instead on thyself...True happiness is born of self-reliance.

(From: Ovid (43 BC - 17 AD), Metamorphoses)
Nothing in the entire universe ever perishes, believe me, but things vary, and adopt a new form. The phrase "being born" is used for beginning to be something different from what one was before, while "dying" means ceasing to be the same. Though this thing may pass into that, and that into this, yet the sums of things remains unchanged.

(From: Abraham 12/15/02 – the Woods Cross TeaM)
This time for many is a time for rebirth, not so much a focus on perhaps dying to the old ways, but newness and wonders to come. As your faith matures you find each day is a new birth, a time for old things to fade away and readjustment to things new.

(From: “Jesus” - The Urantia Book - Paper-155 Section-6)
I have called upon you to be born again, to be born of the spirit. I have called you out of the darkness of authority and the lethargy of tradition into the transcendent light of the realization of the possibility of making for yourselves the greatest discovery possible for the human soul to make--the supernal experience of finding God for yourself, in yourself, and of yourself, and of doing all this as a fact in your own personal experience. And so may you pass from death to life, from the authority of tradition to the experience of knowing God; thus will you pass from darkness to light, from a racial faith inherited to a personal faith achieved by actual experience; and thereby will you progress from a theology of mind handed down by your ancestors to a true religion of spirit which shall be built up in your souls as an eternal endowment.

(From: The RSV Bible - John I 4:7 )
Beloved, let us love one another; for love is of God, and he who loves is born of God and knows God.

(From: C. S. Lewis (1898 - 1963)
Friendship is born at that moment when one person says to another: What! You too? I thought I was the only one.

(From: Anais Nin (1903 - 1977)
Each friend represents a world in us, a world possibly not born until they arrive, and it is only by this meeting that a new world is born.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-130 Section-6)
“…you are to be reborn, re-established as a man of faith, courage, and devoted service to man, for God's sake. And when you become so readjusted to life within yourself, you become likewise readjusted to the universe; you have been born again--born of the spirit--and henceforth will your whole life become one of victorious accomplishment. Trouble will invigorate you; disappointment will spur you on; difficulties will challenge you; and obstacles will stimulate you.

(From: Francois De La Rochefoucauld (1613 - 1680)
The confidence which we have in ourselves gives birth to much of that which we have in others.

(From: Lynn Johnston (1947 -)
We are all born with wonderful gifts. We use these gifts to express ourselves, to amuse, to strengthen, and to communicate. We begin as children to explore and develop our talents, often unaware that we are unique, that not everyone can do what we're doing!

(From: Ovid (43 BC - 17 AD)

Let others praise ancient times; I am glad I was born in these.

*******************************************
The Sermon
***********
Some call it being “Born Again”…
Some would call it, “An Awakening”…
Others perhaps might use the term, “Enlightenment”…
And still Others, a “Realization,” or, an “Epiphany” or, “Receiving the Holy Spirit”…

They are all Correct. If they are describing their own personal experience of it, then no other may judge the correctness of their description. In fact each who Has personally experienced it, knows for a fact that words are totally inadequate to even Begin describing the experience. You can look into the eyes (Soul) of another attempting to verbalize their experience of it to you, and have this certain sense of recognition, “Oh Yeah! That!” …if indeed you have personally experienced it's equivalent.

It is more than merely a personal realization of Truth… it is in fact a LifeChanging personal realization of Truth. It is not simply an “AH HA!” moment, but an “Oh My God How Incredibly Simple!” moment. The first thought that comes to mind is, “Why did I make that so Difficult?” or “Why did I fight THAT so insistently???” or, “Name Your Excuse!”

You know the “One” I'm talking about, don't you? If not, then if you are a Sincere Seeker of Truth, it is an experience that you may indeed look expectantly forward to… you Will not be denied this experience if your sincerity is pure and you remain patient. If SO, then let's go a little bit further with this, OK?

Now, Initially I believed this experience to be a “Once in a Lifetime” kind of thing and that this “Feeling of Total Connection” could Hardly ever lessen or go away because the solution was Indeed so incredibly Simple in the first place… but alas I had only experienced the Truly Simple Reality of it and not the experiential Totality of it. I had not yet learned experientially to be able to fully apply it to every situation that life could hand to me. I remember at one point saying to God, “I want to experience this Always!” feeling like maybe the sincere request alone was all that was left to make it so. Kinda Funny, Huh?? “I want to experience this Always!” … in actuality says to God, “Ok… I think I am ready now to test it under 'Those' circumstances.” Not quite so Simple when it requires applying it with “THOSE” now, Is it?

Being “Born Again” is not a singular experience. Actually, the experience of Being “Born Again” is a realization that Life is an ongoing process of continual Rebirth… of Renewal and Growth and of Personal Progress. Life is a Series of Rebirths.

The first, and I would surmise the most crucial Rebirth, is the one that Jesus was referring to when he said, “Unless you are born again…” He was, I believe, referring to being born of the Spirit. For me it was an internal and wholehearted embrace of my own desire for God's Will… not in opposition to my own will but rather a personal recognition that “God's Will” IS, My Will. It was a profound experience because until that instant I hadn't realized that I had been holding back on a few things I didn't want to change about my life. Just one, or possibly two or three maybe… insignificant little things really… but then, why were they off the table? “The Moment” for me came when I said to myself, “Yes, Even Those I will give up if that is Your Will.”

In retrospect, I really didn't have to give up Anything… I only had to be wholeheartedly Willing to give up anything. When I gave up 100% of my personal control, not to others, but to God alone, God gave me back Control of my Self. It was a release, a relief, a Freedom unlike any other I had previously experienced. For me that moment was a transformational experience, but in reality it was just the final piece of a long and gradual realization… it did not come upon me all at once, it only felt like it in that instant when my personal relationship with God became recognizable as a genuine and loving reality. I realized in that instant that the relationship with God had been there always, it was only my perspective that had needed a slight alteration so that I could actually See it. The world became then for me, a Different Place!

Is life no longer a challenge at that point? Can one no longer make mistakes when Born of the Spirit? Have they become perfect already at the moment of their Rebirth? Funny… but it almost Seemed like it at the time, didn't it? ;-) Yes, but then in the course of Life, old patterns, old ways of thinking reemerge so that they may be reviewed and reexamined in The Better Light. “But I already Dealt with those!” Well, yeah… in a way I did, but not in the Best Way… I had not known yet the better way… the True and Loving Way… God's way.

Rebirth… once the Journey has been chosen, has truly begun, then Rebirth is the Rule rather than the exception. It is no longer about wondering If, but about wondering When. Don't you think?

(From: Fyodor Dostoevsky (1821 - 1881), "The Brothers Karamazov")

Man is tormented by no greater anxiety than to find someone quickly to whom he can hand over that great gift of freedom with which the ill-fated creature is born.

(From: Helen Hayes (1900 - 1993)
Every human being on this earth is born with a tragedy, and it isn't original sin. He's born with the tragedy that he has to grow up. That he has to leave the nest, the security, and go out to do battle. He has to lose everything that is lovely and fight for a new loveliness of his own making, and it's a tragedy. A lot of people don't have the courage to do it.

(From: Elyon - 12/28/03 – The North Idaho TeaM)
When the sequence of events in your life tends to toss you about that you feel as if you are running to catch up, that you are like the ball player running down the field not with ball in hand but scrambling to get a hold of it and having it ever slip away, that is the time to stop, to relinquish yourself into the hands of God, to retreat into stillness, to convert from walking toward to walking with. If you apply this method to a specific problem, or toward a specific goal, you develop a habit pattern which will apply to other similar situations. This is a continual conversion, a repeated rebirth that you will experience at every step in new growth.

(From: Christina Baldwin)
Change is the constant, the signal for rebirth, the egg of the phoenix.

(From: George Santayana (1863 - 1952)
There is no cure for birth and death save to enjoy the interval.

(From: Lantarnek - 9/8/02– the North Idaho TeaM)
That which you seek to give birth to is the presence of the Father within you who is reaching oneness with you. The birth is there. You recognize it, for you have undertaken your spiritual journey long enough to have experienced it. But this rebirth is not an event that comes and goes; this rebirth is always. You are reborn continually, not over and over, but in a steady constancy.

(From: Erich Fromm (1900 - 1980)
Man's main task in life is to give birth to himself, to become what he potentially is.

(From: Henry David Thoreau (1817 - 1862)
Men are born to succeed, not fail.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-148 Section-4)
"By nature, before the rebirth of the spirit, mortal man is subject to inherent evil tendencies, but such natural imperfections of behavior are neither sin nor iniquity. Mortal man is just beginning his long ascent to the perfection of the Father in Paradise. To be imperfect or partial in natural endowment is not sinful.

(From: J. K. Rowling, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire)
It matters not what someone is born, but what they grow to be.

(From: Henry David Thoreau (1817 - 1862)
I was not born to be forced. I will breathe after my own fashion.

(From: Frances Burnett)
If nature made you a giver, your hands are born open, and so is your heart. And though there may be times when your hands are empty, your heart is always full, and you can give things out of that.

(From: Jon Paul Anatra)
In every person I see a hero waiting to be born.

(From: Sharon Salzberg, O Magazine, The Power of Intention, January 2004)
Each decision we make, each action we take, is born out of an intention.

(From: Buddha (563 BC - 483 BC), Dhammapada)
The thought manifests as the word;
The word manifests as the deed;
The deed develops into habit;
And habit hardens into character;
So watch the thought and its ways with care,
And let it spring from love
Born out of concern for all beings…
As the shadow follows the body,
As we think, so we become.

(From: Bob Dylan (1941 - )
He not busy being born is busy dying.

Greetings my Beloved Sisters and Brothers, and welcome once again to the Church that is Within.

Well, we got back from our trip to Western Washington State last evening (Saturday). It was good to see Jill's family, and it felt really good to get back home to Northern Idaho as well.

While we were there, Jill gave her sister a music box for her birthday that plays the song,
“Que Sera, Sera (Whatever Will Be, Will Be)”. As I listened to the melody, my mind of course filled in the words I remembered… and as words do, they kind of got lodged there in my head… Whatever Will Be, Will Be… Whatever Will Be, Will Be… Whatever Will Be, Will Be… Whatever Will Be, Will Be… Whatever Will Be, Will Be…

Yeah, So…

The topic of today's Sunday Service, #613, is “God's Will, my will, God's Will, my will…

(From: The RSV Bible - Matthew 6:10 )
Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, On earth as it is in heaven.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-132 Section-7)
That which the enlightened and reflective human imagination of spiritual teaching and leading wholeheartedly and unselfishly wants to do and be, becomes measurably creative in accordance with the degree of mortal dedication to the divine doing of the Father's will. When man goes in partnership with God, great things may, and do, happen.

(From: Og Mandino (1923 - 1996)
Count your blessings. Once you realize how valuable you are and how much you have going for you, the smiles will return, the sun will break out, the music will play, and you will finally be able to move forward the life that God intended for you with grace, strength, courage, and confidence.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-1 Section-1)
The affectionate dedication of the human will to the doing of the Father's will is man's choicest gift to God; in fact, such a consecration of creature will constitutes man's only possible gift of true value to the Paradise Father.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-132 Section-3)
Revealed truth, personally discovered truth, is the supreme delight of the human soul; it is the joint creation of the material mind and the indwelling spirit. The eternal salvation of this truth-discerning and beauty-loving soul is assured by that hunger and thirst for goodness which leads this mortal to develop a singleness of purpose to do the Father's will, to find God and to become like him. There is never conflict between true knowledge and truth. There may be conflict between knowledge and human beliefs, beliefs colored with prejudice, distorted by fear, and dominated by the dread of facing new facts of material discovery or spiritual progress.

(From: The RSV Bible - Matthew 7:21)
"Not every one who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.

(From: C. S. Lewis (1898 - 1963)
There are only two kinds of people in the end: those who say to God, 'Thy will be done,' and those to whom God says, in the end, 'Thy will be done.'

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-180 Section-2)
How long will it take the world of believers to understand that prayer is not a process of getting your way but rather a program of taking God's way, an experience of learning how to recognize and execute the Father's will? It is entirely true that, when your will has been truly aligned with his, you can ask anything conceived by that will-union, and it will be granted.

(From: The Book of Runes - #21 - Gateway / Place Of Non-Action (Thurisaz)
Be still, collect yourself, and wait on the Will of Heaven.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-195 Section-6)
Freedom or initiative in any realm of existence is directly proportional to the degree of spiritual influence and cosmic-mind control; that is, in human experience, the degree of the actuality of doing "the Father's will." And so, when you once start out to find God, that is the conclusive proof that God has already found you.

(From: The Book of Runes - #15 - Warrior Energy (Teiwaz)
Funding a will through action, yet unattached to outcomes, remaining mindful that all you can really do is stay out of your own way and let the Will of Heaven flow through you---these are among the hallmarks of the Spiritual Warrior.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-111 Section-5)
This choosing of the Father's will is the spiritual finding of the spirit Father by mortal man, even though an age must pass before the creature son may actually stand in the factual presence of God on Paradise. This choosing does not so much consist in the negation of creature will--"Not my will but yours be done"--as it consists in the creature's positive affirmation: "It is my will that your will be done."

(From: The ASB Bible - Mark 3:35)
"For whoever does the will of God, he is My brother and sister and mother."

The Sermon
***********
Why is it that the natural inclination is to see some Huge, practically unassailable Gap between “Our Own Will” and “God's Will?” Are they really all that far apart? I'm kinda thinkin' that perhaps indeed they are not really very far apart at all…

I'm kinda thinkin' that…
God didn't give each of us a Free Will just so that we could one day see how horrible it is and choose to throw it away in favor of His Will. Just maybe God has a higher purpose for our individual Free Will than for it to be discarded after seeing how imperfect it is.

I'm kinda thinkin' that…
God wants us each to discover for ourselves what Our Own True Will really Is and what it is not.

I'm kinda thinkin' that…
God's Will would be for each of us to get the full experience of Truth, Beauty, Goodness and Love. You know, like what any loving parent would want for their child/children. Don't you think? I would want those things for me… wouldn't you want those things for yourself as well? Kind of a “no-brainer” question, isn't it?

I'm kinda thinkin' that…
In instances when my will is for Unconditional Love, then in those moments my will is God's Will as well.

I'm kinda thinkin' that…
I'd like my will to be the same as God's Will… All the time.

(From: Anne Bradstreet (1612 - 1672), 'Meditations Divine and Moral,' 1655)
If we had no winter, the spring would not be so pleasant: if we did not sometimes taste of adversity, prosperity would not be so welcome.

(From: Seneca (5 BC - 65 AD), Epistles)
Fire is the test of gold; adversity, of strong men.

(From: Napoleon Hill)
Within every adversity is an equal or greater opportunity.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-159 Section-3)
Teach all believers that those who enter the kingdom are not thereby rendered immune to the accidents of time or to the ordinary catastrophes of nature. Believing the gospel will not prevent getting into trouble, but it will insure that you shall be unafraid when trouble does overtake you. If you dare to believe in me and wholeheartedly proceed to follow after me, you shall most certainly by so doing enter upon the sure pathway to trouble. I do not promise to deliver you from the waters of adversity, but I do promise to go with you through all of them.

(From: Horace (65 BC - 8 BC)
Adversity has the effect of eliciting talents, which in prosperous circumstances would have lain dormant.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-48 Section-7)
You cannot perceive spiritual truth until you feelingly experience it, and many truths are not really felt except in adversity.

(From: Ben Jonson (1572 - 1637)
He knows not his own strength that hath not met adversity.

(From: Henry Fielding (1707 - 1754)
Adversity is the trial of principle. Without it a man hardly knows whether he is honest or not.

(From: Samuel Johnson (1709 - 1784)
Adversity has ever been considered the state in which a man most easily becomes acquainted with himself.

(From: Og Mandino (1923 - 1996)
Always seek out the seed of triumph in every adversity.

(From: Socrates (469 BC - 399 BC)
Remember that there is nothing stable in human affairs; therefore avoid undue elation in prosperity, or undue depression in adversity.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-100 Section-2)
Jesus portrayed the profound surety of the God-knowing mortal when he said: "To a God-knowing kingdom believer, what does it matter if all things earthly crash?" Temporal securities are vulnerable, but spiritual sureties are impregnable. When the flood tides of human adversity, selfishness, cruelty, hate, malice, and jealousy beat about the mortal soul, you may rest in the assurance that there is one inner bastion, the citadel of the spirit, which is absolutely unassailable; at least this is true of every human being who has dedicated the keeping of his soul to the indwelling spirit of the eternal God.

(From: Seneca (5 BC - 65 AD)
To see a man fearless in dangers. untainted with lusts, happy in adversity, composed in a tumult, and laughing at all those things which are generally either coveted or feared, all men must acknowledge that this can be from nothing else but a beam of divinity that influences a mortal body.

(From: Abraham 3/4/96 – the Woods Cross TeaM)
Yes, some may look at adversity as a curse, a stroke of bad luck, a nuisance. I view adversity as an assignment. Father has blessed me with yet another assignment. He has taught me to deal with these matters. He has given me the spiritual tools. He has entrusted me yet again with another assignment. I look to these assignments with great excitement. I am always intrigued by Father's mysteries. I am challenged to find missing pieces to solve His puzzles.

(From: The ASB Bible - Proverbs 17:17)
A friend loves at all times, And a brother is born for adversity.

The Sermon
***********
There is little more inspiring to me than witnessing others overcome adversity.

It helps me to remember that I too may be so fortunate in adverse situations if I do not give up, try my best, and maintain an attitude of genuine humility.

Adversity can indeed at times be trying, annoying, wearisome, frustrating, even exasperating… can it not? More often than not if memory serves me correctly… at least while it is in the process of happening anyway.

Personally I best deal with adversity by consciously asking God to help me through it, give me guidance, and reveal the lesson or gift that the experience has in potential if I stay True. Does that work for you as well?

Ya' Know? I'd bet that each and every one of us in reality, spends far more of our awake lifetime conquering adversity than not, don't you think?

Something tells me that I don't consciously ask God for help and guidance as much as I could, as much as I ought. Do you?

Help me the better to realize that You are with me at all times… that each moment You are with me Now.
