Greetings my Beloved Sisters and Brothers, and welcome once again to the Church that is Within.

With the Internet, the Age of Universal Communication has Really Begun... I Wonder how that will Change things and change the World? I Wonder if we will Finally learn to Really communicate with one another?

Quotes
*******
(From: The KJV Bible - Psalms 4:4)
Stand in awe, and sin not: commune with your own heart upon your bed, and be still.

(from: The Urantia Papers – Paper-91 Section-8)
To some individuals prayer is the calm expression of gratitude; to others, a group expression of praise, social devotions; sometimes it is the imitation of another's religion, while in true praying it is the sincere and trusting communication of the spiritual nature of the creature with the anywhere presence of the spirit of the Creator.

(from: The Tao Te Ching – Chapter 16)
Each separate being in the universe returns to the common source. Returning to the source is serenity. If you don't realize the source, you stumble in confusion and sorrow. When you realize where you come from, you naturally become tolerant, disinterested, amused, kindhearted as a grandmother, dignified as a king.

(from: The Urantia Papers – Paper-146 Section-2)
By opening the human end of the channel of the God-man communication, mortals make immediately available the ever-flowing stream of divine ministry to the creatures of the worlds. When man hears God's spirit speak within the human heart, inherent in such an experience is the fact that God simultaneously hears that man's prayer.

(from: The Urantia Papers – Paper-160 Section-3)
On every mountaintop of intellectual thought are to be found relaxation for the mind, strength for the soul, and communion for the spirit. From such vantage points of high living, man is able to transcend the material irritations of the lower levels of thinking--worry, jealousy, envy, revenge, and the pride of immature personality. These high-climbing souls deliver themselves from a multitude of the crosscurrent conflicts of the trifles of living, thus becoming free to attain consciousness of the higher currents of spirit concept and celestial communication. But the life purpose must be jealously guarded from the temptation to seek for easy and transient attainment; likewise must it be so fostered as to become immune to the disastrous threats of fanaticism.

(From: The RSV Bible - Galatians 5:25-6:9)
If we live by the Spirit, let us also walk by the Spirit. Let us have no self-conceit, no provoking of one another, no envy of one another. Brethren, if a man is overtaken in any trespass, you who are spiritual should restore him in a spirit of gentleness. Look to yourself, lest you too be tempted. Bear one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ. For if any one thinks he is something, when he is nothing, he deceives himself. But let each one test his own work, and then his reason to boast will be in himself alone and not in his neighbor. For each man will have to bear his own load. Let him who is taught the word share all good things with him who teaches. Do not be deceived; God is not mocked, for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap. For he who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption; but he who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life. And let us not grow weary in well-doing, for in due season we shall reap, if we do not lose heart.

(from: The Urantia Papers – Paper-160 Section-2)
There are just two ways in which mortals may live together: the material or animal way and the spiritual or human way. By the use of signals and sounds animals are able to communicate with each other in a limited way. But such forms of communication do not convey meanings, values, or ideas. The one distinction between man and the animal is that man can communicate with his fellows by means of symbols which most certainly designate and identify meanings, values, ideas, and even ideals.

The Sermon
***********
If Only we could all better learn how to communicate. Wouldn't That be Somethin'?

Our egos TRY to communicate. The Longer I Live, the more convinced I am that they do a fairly poor job of it. Egos suffer from a rather acute and quite recognizable deficiency in the Art of Listening. They have the "listening to themselves" part down rather well, but the "listening to others" part of actual Communication is almost Totally lacking. Maybe it's because they want so badly to say the Right thing to avoid feeling foolish... and then... they're so Busy trying to figure out what to say Next, that they just don't have much Time left to listen to anybody else... ya Think maybe?

Don't ya Love those people who Look at you when you're talking and Really listen to you and to what you have to say? And then when they Speak, they Just seem to say the right Things. Isn't that Neat how they do that? One can really have "The Great Conversations" with people like that, can't they? They're With ya Mind, Heart and Soul!

I just Love those "In the Soul" conversations. They just seem to Flow without effort... without conscious thought, Don't They?

When two egos are attempting communication with one another, the result is quite Different, Isn't it? There's an almost continual jockeying for a measure of control going on all the time. Makes me think of the line from the movie "Cool Hand Luke"---"What we got here, is failure to communicate."

Here's ten things in life I thought of this morning that are due almost entirely to a "Failure to Communicate"... or "ego talking to ego":

1) Misunderstandings
2) Distrust
3) Religious Antagonism
4) Hatred
5) Fighting
6) War
7) Unsuccessful Marriages
8) Prejudice
9) Loneliness
10) Anger

You could probably come up with a goodly number of Others too, Couldn't ya?

In My experience, those things just don't seem to Happen in Soul to Soul Conversations. Self Control seems to prevail in Those times. There's no Need to control... just a Desire to Share... a Peaceful yet Invigorating Exchange.

I find that when I regularly communicate with God, just one on One, I'm much better at Soul communication when I'm with other People. In Fact, the More I personally communicate with God, the Better I Get at All types of communication. Have you ever noticed that? I also find that if I Neglect my opportunities to converse with God for any length of time, ego worms it's way back into the forefront of consciousness... usually without me even noticing. "I HATE when THAT happens!" Don't You?

There Must be a Connection there. More time with God---Better time with People! Hmmm... Suppose? It's worth a Try...

The Prayer

Dear God,
I think You and I need to spend a little more Time together, don't You? Alright, Alright... a Lot more time together then. You mean... we can spend All my time together? We DO whether I'm aware of it or Not? Oh! I wasn't Aware! That Changes things...

You ALL are Within the Infinitely Loving Embrace of our Universal

Quotes

(From: Mother Theresa)
I know God will not give me anything I can't handle. I just wish that He didn't trust me so much.

(from: The Urantia Papers – Paper-191 Section-6 - Jesus)
"Peace be upon you. That which my Father sent me into the world to establish belongs not to a race, a nation, nor to a special group of teachers or preachers. This gospel of the kingdom belongs to both Jew and gentile, to rich and poor, to free and bond, to male and female, even to the little children. And you are all to proclaim this gospel of love and truth by the lives which you live in the flesh. You shall love one another with a new and startling affection, even as I have loved you. You will serve mankind with a new and amazing devotion, even as I have served you. And when men see you so love them, and when they behold how fervently you serve them, they will perceive that you have become faith-fellows of the kingdom of heaven, and they will follow after the Spirit of Truth which they see in your lives, to the finding of eternal salvation.

(From: The RSV Bible - Romans 7:6)
But now we are discharged from the law, dead to that which held us captive, so that we serve not under the old written code but in the new life of the Spirit.

(From: the Dalai Lama)
This is my simple religion. There is no need for temples; no need for complicated philosophy. Our own brain, our own heart is our temple; the philosophy is kindness.

(From: Albert Schweitzer)
I don't know what your destiny will be, but one thing I know: the only ones among you who will be really happy are those who will have sought and found how to serve.

(From: Francis of Assisi)
Remember that when you leave this earth, you can take with you nothing that you have received - only what you have given: a full heart enriched by honest service, love, sacrifice and courage.

(from: The Urantia Papers – Paper-193 Section-2)
Salvation is the free gift of God, but those who are born of the spirit will immediately begin to show forth the fruits of the spirit in loving service to their fellow creatures. And the fruits of the divine spirit which are yielded in the lives of spirit-born and God-knowing mortals are: loving service, unselfish devotion, courageous loyalty, sincere fairness, enlightened honesty, undying hope, confiding trust, merciful ministry, unfailing goodness, forgiving tolerance, and enduring peace.

(From: The RSV Bible - Matthew 25:35-40)
...for I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me.' Then the righteous will answer him, 'Lord, when did we see thee hungry and feed thee, or thirsty and give thee drink? And when did we see thee a stranger and welcome thee, or naked and clothe thee? And when did we see thee sick or in prison and visit thee?' And the King will answer them, 'Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brethren, you did it to me.'

(From: The RSV Bible - Matthew 25:42-45)
...for I was hungry and you gave me no food, I was thirsty and you gave me no drink, I was a stranger and you did not welcome me, naked and you did not clothe me, sick and in prison and you did not visit me.' Then they also will answer, 'Lord, when did we see thee hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not minister to thee?' Then he will answer them, 'Truly, I say to you, as you did it not to one of the least of these, you did it not to me.'

(From: Mark Twain)
Always do right. This will gratify some and astonish the rest.

The Sermon

I think Albert Schweitzer was On to Something when he said: "I don't know what your destiny will be, but one thing I know: the only ones among you who will be really happy are those who will have sought and found how to serve." Pretty Interesting line... don't ya Think?

What is Loving Service?

Well... one thing it Isn't, is something that is done merely because it's "Your Duty" or "Your Responsibility" or "Your Obligation" or "Your Job" to do it. Now Don't get me Wrong, I am not saying that Duties, Responsibilities, Obligations or Jobs Cannot be Done in an attitude of Loving Service, indeed they Can! ANYTHING one puts their Heart and Soul into can be a Loving Service. No... what I'm talking about here is doing something for another with the attitude of "I'd Really Rather Not do it, but I Will." or "I'll Do this for you, but only if I can do it My way." I can remember times when I've had that attitude, Can't you? Personally, I didn't find that those experiences felt very good and were Considerably less than Rewarding. Would I have done them that way if I thought I was doing them for God Almighty? Well... uh... no... probably not, I guess. If I was Doing it for God I'd do the best I Could! I'd want it to be Pleasing to God!

'Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brethren, you did it to me.'

Do it for God... do it With God

What is Loving Service?

Doesn't it feel Great when you do something for another and you can Tell that they Appreciate it... that they were Pleased that you helped them? I LOVE that feeling don't You? Does it Still feel good when they forget/neglect/refuse to show their appreciation? If you're Doing it for God it does... Yes.

'Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brethren, you did it to me.'

Do it for God... do it With God

What is Loving Service?

Ya Know? Those times when I need or would like help and someone comes up to me and say's: "Do you need Help?" or "What can I do to Help you?" or "Do you have anything you would like Help with?" or "Is there anything I can Do for you?" or "How may I be of Service?"---I really Appreciate that, don't You? ...and when they ask, "How would you like that Done?" and then they do it that way---I really appreciate That Too! Don't You? Doing something for someone that they Really Want Done... the Way they want it done... now That's Loving Service! Wouldn't you say?

There are Also times when I don't Want help... I just want to be alone with myself or with God while I do my chosen task. I guess Other people might like to be in that "space" sometimes Too, don't ya Think? In those times, the greatest service someone can give me is to allow me that Personal time. It Doesn't mean that I just don't want them Around, or that there is any ulterior reason that I don't want their help right now, or that I don't Like them or something... just that I need Alone time to Dream or Plan or Meditate or something. You don't ever get that way Too, do Ya? Those are times of being in Service to Yourself and God.

Do it for God... do it With God

What is Loving Service?

Something done Lovingly and with Purpose for God, for Another, for Yourself or Any Combination of the three. (Well... that's what I think anyway. ;-)

Do it for God... do it With God

What is Loving Service?

Do I Do it? Do I Give it? Do I Allow it? Do I Live it?

God, I Hope so! What about You?

This being Father's Day, My Beloved Life Partner, Minister Jill, offered to write today's Service that I may have time and energy to spend time with my Family today. (from: The Urantia Papers – Paper-111 Section-7)
Why do you not encourage the heavenly helper to cheer you with the clear vision of the eternal outlook of universal life as you gaze in perplexity at the problems of the passing hour? Why do you refuse to be enlightened and inspired by the universe viewpoint while you toil amidst the handicaps of time and flounder in the maze of uncertainties which beset your mortal life journey?

(From: Martin Luther King Jr)
Man must evolve for all human conflict a method which rejects revenge, aggression and retaliation. The foundation of such a method is love.

(From: The RSV Bible - Matthew 22:37-40)
And he said to him, "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it, You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments depend all the law and the prophets."

(From: The KJV Bible - Matthew 5:44-48)
But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust. For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same? And if ye salute your brethren only, what do ye more than others? do not even the publicans so? Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.

(from: The Urantia Papers – Paper-160 Section-2)
Isolation tends to exhaust the energy charge of the soul. Association with one's fellows is essential to the renewal of the zest for life and is indispensable to the maintenance of the courage to fight those battles consequent upon the ascent to the higher levels of human living. Friendship enhances the joys and glorifies the triumphs of life. Loving and intimate human associations tend to rob suffering of its sorrow and hardship of much of its bitterness. The presence of a friend enhances all beauty and exalts every goodness.

The Sermon
***********
Happy Father's Day to all you dads out there!

Have you ever stopped to notice how we have been conditioned to be significantly More Appreciative And Loving of people on their special (commercialized) holiday than the rest of the days of the year?

Gee, do you s'pose our very personal, all-loving Father in Heaven selects which days He showers loving energy on us and into every living cell of our body and mind, and how much he gives us? I don't Think so. Do you? D'ya think He just might see how special we are, Every Day, and tell us... (sigh) If we would Only take time to listen!

Well...here's my story about that. I was an "older woman" when I went to college, filled with a lot of preconceived notions germane to my generation. In my senior year, the last quarter, I needed to take a course "for fun" in order to have full-time credits. I decided an entry-level psych class called "The Psychology of Adjustment" would be easy, interesting, and fun. I was right! But I did not realize that Our Father wanted me to learn one last, important message before graduating..

We had a marvelous, sensitive male instructor. He was instructing, along with oldsters like myself, about six young college football players. Yeh, you know--all brawn, no brain; self-centered and macho, macho, macho. Yes siree, some of those clichés really fit. Right?

In one class we had to volunteer to share what we felt really strongly about concerning ourself. Oh yes, the raucous, self-centered football players were front and center, eager to talk about themselves. I thought to myself, "Boy, this is going to be a Boring 50 minutes. First one spoke, and then another. They told the class about how much self discipline it took to get up early every morning and work out before they ate breakfast or attended any classes. They shared how important their physical health was to them. They shared how good it feels to be physically healthy and to be motivated to want to be the "best you" you could be.

I discovered that they weren't the least bit egotistical about their bodies. They Loved the gift from God of their physical bodies. They wanted to honor their body. They wanted to treat it right and keep it healthy.

I began to shrink in my seat as I listened to them; heard them speaking from their souls. I thought about the way I was (and still am) treating my body poorly, not appreciating it. Very little exercise. Very little sunlight. Smoking. Here I had thought of these young men as brainless and shallow. I saw differently that day. I had a heart full of respect for them that I have felt every since. It inspired me to write some prose. I framed it and gave it to my professor at the end of the course and thanked him for the beauty he had been able to bring out in each of the students during the course of the quarter.

PERFECT VISION

At some time in my life
I came to realize
I had very poor,
blurred vision.

But the glasses
the doctor gave me
didn't seem to help.
So...

I asked God
for a pair of glasses
so I could see
the world clearly.

God did better
than give me
a pair of glasses...
He healed my eyes!

I now see perfectly...
I see Miracles
everywhere I look!

Jill (Poole) Megow - April 3, 1993

How about you? Is your vision clear? Do you see miracles everywhere you look? Wouldn't it be wonderful to wake up each morning knowing that you would see the miracles within each person you encounter for the entire day?... that you would see their "specialness" every day, and not just on a special holiday?

It IS wonderful!
It has changed my life!

Consider asking Father to heal your eyes today, won't you?

God's Eyes--don't leave home without them!

******************************************
The Prayer
**********
Dear God,
Thank you for healing my eyes, allowing me to see everyone and everything in this world through Your Eyes. Guide me and my earthly siblings daily to remember to take Your Eyes with us in our every thought, word, and deed. And by the way, I hope you have allowed some free time this next week...cuz I think you might get a lot of requests for healing of eyes.

Greetings my Beloved Sisters and Brothers, and welcome once again to the Church that is Within.

Wonder of Wonders! This week we bought a portable chainsaw mill which will help us to turn our neglected and diseased 5 acre forest into lumber for building our Park of Meditation and Retreat. We are still in need of a Table Saw, a Radial Arm Saw, a Lumber Planer, and various other Woodworking tools, plus a permanent workshop to function in, so Contributions to the Building Fund for that purpose are now being Accepted and Welcomed. It will require a Considerable amount of intensive personal labor on our parts and a fair amount of outside resources, but God willing, it will become a Beautiful place of Worship and Sanctuary available to All Comers. Thanks for any help you are inclined to give to this cause.

Here is our New Permanent Address and Phone Number:

(A Zen Parable)
A monk was anxious to learn Zen and said: "I have been newly initiated into the Brotherhood. Will you be gracious enough to show me the way to Zen?" The Master said: "Do you hear the murmuring sound of the mountain stream?" The monk said: "Yes, I do." The Master said: "Here is the entrance."

(from: “The Varieties of Religious Experience” ©1902 by William James – p.423)
We are thinking beings, and we cannot exclude the intellect from participating in any of our functions. Even in soliloquizing with ourselves, we construe our feelings intellectually. Both our personal ideals and our religious and mystical experiences must be interpreted congruously with the kind of scenery which our thinking mind inhabits. The philosophic climate of our time inevitably forces its own clothing on us. Moreover, we must exchange our feelings with one another, and in doing so we have to speak, and to use general and abstract verbal formulas. Conceptions and constructions are thus a necessary part of our religion; and as moderator amid the clash of hypotheses, and mediator among the criticisms of one man's constructions by another, philosophy will always have much to do.

(from: The Urantia Papers – Paper-1 Section-4)
As a reality in human spiritual experience God is not a mystery. But when an attempt is made to make plain the realities of the spirit world to the physical minds of the material order, mystery appears: mysteries so subtle and so profound that only the faith-grasp of the God-knowing mortal can achieve the philosophic miracle of the recognition of the Infinite by the finite, the discernment of the eternal God by the evolving mortals of the material worlds of time and space.

(From: The Tao Te Ching - #8)
The supreme good is like water, which nourishes all things without trying to. It is content with the low places that people disdain. Thus it is like the Tao.
In dwelling, live close to the ground. In thinking, keep to the simple. In conflict, be fair and generous. In governing, don't try to control. In work, do what you enjoy. In family life, be completely present.
When you are content to be simply yourself and don't compare or compete, everybody will respect you.

(From: The Tao Te Ching - #10)
Can you coax your mind from its wandering and keep to the original oneness? Can you let your body become supple as a newborn child's? Can you cleanse your inner vision until you see nothing but the light? Can you love people and lead them without imposing your will? Can you deal with the most vital matters by letting events take their course? Can you step back from you own mind and thus understand all things?
Giving birth and nourishing, having without possessing, acting with no expectations, leading and not trying to control: this is the supreme virtue.

(from: “The Varieties of Religious Experience” ©1902 by William James – p.423)
I do believe that feeling is the deeper source of religion, and that philosophic and theologic formulas are secondary products, like translations of a text into another tongue.

(A Zen Parable)
One of master Gasan's monks visited the university in Tokyo. When he returned, he asked the master if he had ever read the Christian Bible. "No," Gasan replied, "Please read some of it to me." The monk opened the Bible to the Sermon on the Mount in St. Matthew, and began reading. After reading Christ's words about the "lilies" in the field, he paused. Master Gasan was silent for a long time. "Yes," he finally said, "Whoever uttered these words is an enlightened being. What you have read to me is the essence of everything I have been trying to teach you here!"

(From: The NAS Bible - Luke 12:23-31)
“For life is more than food, and the body more than clothing. Consider the ravens, for they neither sow nor reap; they have no storeroom nor barn, and yet God feeds them; how much more valuable you are than the birds! And which of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life's span? If then you cannot do even a very little thing, why do you worry about other matters? Consider the lilies, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin; but I tell you, not even Solomon in all his glory clothed himself like one of these. But if God so clothes the grass in the field, which is alive today and tomorrow is thrown into the furnace, how much more will He clothe you? You men of little faith! And do not seek what you will eat and what you will drink, and do not keep worrying. For all these things the nations of the world eagerly seek; but your Father knows that you need these things. But seek His kingdom, and these things will be added to you.

(From: The RSV Bible - Matthew 6:34)
"Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Let the day's own trouble be sufficient for the day.

(from: The Urantia Papers – Paper-165 Section-5)
"Consider the lilies, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin; yet I say to you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. If God so clothes the grass of the field, which is alive today and tomorrow is cut down and cast into the fire, how much more shall he clothe you, the ambassadors of the heavenly kingdom. O you of little faith! When you wholeheartedly devote yourselves to the proclamation of the gospel of the kingdom, you should not be of doubtful minds concerning the support of yourselves or the families you have forsaken. If you give your lives truly to the gospel, you shall live by the gospel. If you are only believing disciples, you must earn your own bread and contribute to the sustenance of all who teach and preach and heal. If you are anxious about your bread and water, wherein are you different from the nations of the world who so diligently seek such necessities? Devote yourselves to your work, believing that both the Father and I know that you have need of all these things. Let me assure you, once and for all, that, if you dedicate your lives to the work of the kingdom, all your real needs shall be supplied. Seek the greater thing, and the lesser will be found therein; ask for the heavenly, and the earthly shall be included. The shadow is certain to follow the substance.

(From: ACCEPTANCE - by Henry Miller)
Life has no other discipline to impose, if we would but realize it, than to accept life unquestioningly. Everything we shut our eyes to, everything we run away from, everything we deny, denigrate or despise, serves to defeat us in the end. What seems nasty, painful, evil, can become a source of beauty, joy and strength, if faced with an open mind. Every moment is a golden one for him who has the vision to recognize it as such.

Don't ya Love those Special experiences with people, places, thoughts and ideas that come into your life and give you that Exhilarating yet Serene feeling of Contented Awe, Comforting Love and Worshipful Wonder?

Yeah... me Too! For me, they are what give life all of it's Meaning and Value. How Wonderful it would be for Life to be Filled to Overflowing with those kinds of experiences... 'till there was No room left for any Other kind! Yes. That would be Grand! Would it Not? There MUST be a way... there Must be a WAY! I Wonder...

"A Path from Wonder to Wonder"

There is a Path I have found,
one that's over and over proved True.
Each next step at times hard to bound,
is the attainment of everything New.

I've labeled these steps just in case,
it's a place you might, too, like to find.
If so, please step forward, but remember,
it is only a Journey with Mind.

The Steps lead from:
        Wonder
        to - Suppose
        to - Look For
        to - Discover
        to - Examine
        to - Assess
        to - Digest
        to - Know
        to - Intellectualize
        to - Philosophize
        to - Personalize
        to - Attempt
        to - Experience
        to - Decide
        to - Accept
        to - Live
        to - Embody
        to - Exemplify
        to - Be
