Light And Life Garden Update
**************************
The footpaths winding through the Faith Garden are coming along nicely now. This week in the process of digging out and filling in one of them, I unexpectedly uncovered an Incredibly Beautiful and Large formation of Rock. Upon further inspection of the garden, I discovered several more rock outcroppings just Asking to be revealed as well.
While the Faith Garden is yet Far from being completed, it is Already vastly exceeding any of my original visions for it.
We Welcome All Visitors with Open Arms and Open Hearts!

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-131 Section-10)
"The Lord our God is one Lord, and you should love him with all your mind and heart while you do your very best to love all his children as you love yourself. This one God is our heavenly Father, in whom all things consist, and who dwells, by his spirit, in every sincere human soul. And we who are the children of God should learn how to commit the keeping of our souls to him as to a faithful Creator. With our heavenly Father all things are possible. Since he is the Creator, having made all things and all beings, it could not be otherwise. Though we cannot see God, we can know him. And by daily living the will of the Father in heaven, we can reveal him to our fellow men.

The Sermon
***********
Living in the Kingdom of Heaven is like the Art of Sculpture Carving. Once the Sculptor gets a basic idea of what is inside the piece of material he or she is working with, then ensues the project of gradually removing the parts of material which are obviously Not a part of the desired finished Piece. As excess and unnecessary parts are taken away, new and more accurate perspectives of the real nature of the creation are revealed. Once a more recognizable arrangement of the individual inherent parts is revealed, the carver can then begin to more accurately expose each distinct part while being attentive also to the innate relationships which exist between them.
The experienced Sculptor does not spend all of his time working only on one specific section until it is completely finished. Rather, does he wisely seek to keep all areas balanced and at a relatively equal degree of completion. He has learned that in the process of sculpting a true work of art, things often take unanticipated turns and reveal unexpected Surprises. If utilized effectively these help to give Life and Uniqueness to the piece he is working on. For this reason he does not let one part get too far ahead of any of the other parts that he may be able to adjust and coordinate All parts in reciprocation to the unforeseen developments. Only when the finished form of the whole sculpture has been achieved can the sculptor afford to spend any degree of time working on individual details lest he end up having to rework them each many times over to keep them all in unified harmony.
A final sanding completes the cutting and shaping stages of the Work of Art. What has finally been revealed is what was all along truly contained within the rough and unrecognizable piece that the Sculptor first began with.

Living in the Kingdom of Heaven is like being both the Sculptor And the Sculpture.

Dear God,
No matter how far I may at any point think I have come along, I am ever reminded of how much there is still yet to be cut away. Guide my chisels that I may rightfully reveal that which You have created within.

A Post Office worker, at the main sorting office, finds an unstamped, poorly hand-written envelope, addressed to God.
He opens it and discovers it is from an elderly lady, distressed because all her savings, $200, has been stolen. She will be cold & hungry this Easter without divine intervention.
He organizes the postal workers, who dig deep and come up with $180 to donate. They get it to her by special courier the same morning.

A week later, the same postal worker recognizes the same handwriting on another envelope. He opens it:

"Dear God,
Thank you for the $180 for Easter, which would have been so bleak otherwise.
P.S. It was $20 short but that was probably those thieving workers at the Post Office."

(From: David Brin)
It is said that power corrupts, but actually it's more true that power attracts the corruptible. The sane are usually attracted by other things than power.

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-155 Section-6)
You have come out from among those of your fellows who choose to remain satisfied with a religion of mind, who crave security and prefer conformity. You have elected to exchange your feelings of authoritative certainty for the assurances of the spirit of adventurous and progressive faith. You have dared to protest against the grueling bondage of institutional religion and to reject the authority of the traditions of record which are now regarded as the word of God. Our Father did indeed speak through Moses, Elijah, Isaiah, Amos, and Hosea, but he did not cease to minister words of truth to the world when these prophets of old made an end of their utterances. My Father is no respecter of races or generations in that the word of truth is vouchsafed one age and withheld from another.

(From: Adlai E. Stevenson Jr.)
I believe that if we really want human brotherhood to spread and increase until it makes life safe and sane, we must also be certain that there is no one true faith or path by which it may spread

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-155 Section-6)
I have called upon you to be born again, to be born of the spirit. I have called you out of the darkness of authority and the lethargy of tradition into the transcendent light of the realization of the possibility of making for yourselves the greatest discovery possible for the human soul to make--the supernal experience of finding God for yourself, in yourself, and of yourself, and of doing all this as a fact in your own personal experience. And so may you pass from death to life, from the authority of tradition to the experience of knowing God; thus will you pass from darkness to light, from a racial faith inherited to a personal faith achieved by actual experience; and thereby will you progress from a theology of mind handed down by your ancestors to a true religion of spirit which shall be built up in your souls as an eternal endowment.

The Sermon
***********
I used to have a mental illness. Oh, nobody else knew it. They thought I was normal… I was just like them. The most important things in my life were having the “right” job so I could live in the “right” neighborhood, wear the “right” clothes, buy all of the “right” things that let everyone else know I was successful… going to the “right” places, being seen with the “right” people. I Really fit in Well. I didn't talk about politics, or religion… well, maybe politics. My sense of personal value depended almost entirely on what other people thought of me or about me. I thought I was successful… I Had most of the “things” I wanted… I went most of the places I wanted to go… I did most of the things I wanted to do. Life seemed, well… Normal. Why, I Even thought about God once a week… that's what you're Supposed to do, isn't it? I had no idea anything was wrong with me and neither did anyone else. But nothing ever seemed to satisfy me. None of it had any Real Meaning for me… It seemed like I was just existing… I didn't know what the Purpose of Life was… Life just didn't make much Sense! Why was I Here? “Is This all there Is?” It was Crazy! But at least everyone else thought I was alright.

Then all of a sudden one day something just Clicked inside of me. I Personally experienced God. I actually Felt God. I Knew God was Real for the first time! It changed my Perception of Life and illuminated the folly of how I had been living mine. Truth was no longer a convenience item, it Defined Reality. Beauty was no longer only what was seen on the surface, but what was embodied within as well. Goodness was no longer something reserved for clergy or saints or grandmothers, it was the Ultimate Goal of Life Itself. Love wasn't something you hunt, dole out, cling to, or reserve for only the right person or persons… Love was something that only had value if freely given and freely accepted, freely Shared. Faith wasn't something talked about and intellectualized… it was something Lived and Experienced! God wasn't someone you went to visit in a church once a week, but rather someone to share and experience Every Moment of Life With. Life was no longer about what Others thought of me, but what I thought of me and what I wanted God to think of me.

Most of the “stuff” that used to be SO Important to me before, is so Meaningless to me now. The Trappings of conformity no longer hold me in their clutches. Opinion imprisons me no longer. I live my life as a Unique child of God, FOR God, By Faith and with Love… seeking only Truth, Beauty and Goodness. It is the Only True Sanity I have Ever Known! Since I have become sane, I have met many others who are also sane… who have also begun to leave behind the insanity of the old, confused way of living. Of course… most of the people who knew me before the change, and people still stuck in materialism and social conformity think I'm crazy Now.

Go Figure!

Light And Life Garden Update
**************************
While walking through the Property with Minister Sheila the other day, we discovered a previously unrecognized outcropping of rock that seems to form somewhat of a circle and looks like an excellent place to eventually have our group campfire area. I recently was able to rebuild the worst of the two front wheel's spindle bearings on The Tractor Within and am again able to use it for light to medium work, so I have begun clearing some of the debris and extra soil from the potential Fire Pit area to see how well it will serve the purpose. Nearby I also am seeing a spot to plant a few of the baby Maple trees given to us by Rick and Barb Giles from their property. They will one day provide a nice shaded area and drop their fall leaves conveniently close to the Faith garden to use for plant mulch. Any excess leaves can easily be raked into the fire pit.
We are continuing progress on the Faith Garden. The Footpaths are becoming more and more recognizable and the Log Header is now firmly installed 10 feet atop the Gateposts making it now possible to build and install the Entrance Gate. Two of our four original plum trees didn't survive and have now been replaced with different varieties of plums; one a pretty young tree (don't know what kind of plum yet) given us by Gerdean and Angus from their place in Spokane, and the other a hearty Italian Plum tree given to me by my beloved for Father's Day. I planted both of them yesterday and fully expect them to Thrive in their new home in The Faith Garden.

All Visitors, Helpers and Retreaters are Welcome! Come One, come All!

(From: Bertrand Russell)

One should respect public opinion insofar as is necessary to avoid starvation and keep out of prison, but anything that goes beyond this is voluntary submission to an unnecessary tyranny.

(From: Henry Wadsworth Longfellow)
He that respects himself is safe from others. He wears a coat of mail that none can pierce.

(From: The Tao Te Ching #8)
When you are content to be simply yourself
and don't compare or compete,
everybody will respect you.

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-54 Section-1)
True liberty is the associate of genuine self-respect; false liberty is the consort of self-admiration. True liberty is the fruit of self-control; false liberty, the assumption of self-assertion. Self-control leads to altruistic service; self-admiration tends towards the exploitation of others for the selfish aggrandizement of such a mistaken individual as is willing to sacrifice righteous attainment for the sake of possessing unjust power over his fellow beings.

(From: The KJV Bible - Psalm 138:6)
Though the LORD be high, yet hath he respect unto the lowly: but the proud he knoweth afar off.

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-155 Section-6)
Spiritual living mightily increases true self-respect. But self-respect is not self-admiration. Self-respect is always co-ordinate with the love and service of one's fellows. It is not possible to respect yourself more than you love your neighbor; the one is the measure of the capacity for the other.

(From: William J. H. Boetcker)
That you may retain your self-respect, it is better to displease the people by doing what you know is right, than to temporarily please them by doing what you know is wrong.

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-156 Section-5)
As you grow older in years and more experienced in the affairs of the kingdom, are you becoming more tactful in dealing with troublesome mortals and more tolerant in living with stubborn associates? Tact is the fulcrum of social leverage, and tolerance is the earmark of a great soul. If you possess these rare and charming gifts, as the days pass you will become more alert and expert in your worthy efforts to avoid all unnecessary social misunderstandings. Such wise souls are able to avoid much of the trouble which is certain to be the portion of all who suffer from lack of emotional adjustment, those who refuse to grow up, and those who refuse to grow old gracefully.

(From: Ralph Waldo Emerson)
To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends; to appreciate beauty; to find the best in others; to leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition; to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded.

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-159 Section-3)
While overmuch self-respect may destroy proper humility and end in pride, conceit, and arrogance, the loss of self-respect often ends in paralysis of the will. It is the purpose of this gospel to restore self-respect to those who have lost it and to restrain it in those who have it. Make not the mistake of only condemning the wrongs in the lives of your pupils; remember also to accord generous recognition for the most praiseworthy things in their lives. Forget not that I will stop at nothing to restore self-respect to those who have lost it, and who really desire to regain it.

(From: Richard Bach, Illusions)
The bond that links your true family is not one of blood, but of respect and joy in each other's life. Rarely do members of one family grow up under the same roof.

*******************************************
The Sermon
***********
I think the most Surefire way to attain and preserve Genuine Self-Respect is to first recognize that You ARE God's Child, second to realize that so is Everyone Else, and third to Live Every Moment of your Life as if you Know what a Supreme Privilege as well as an Honored Responsibility that is.

That about Covers it for today…

Greetings my Beloved Sisters and Brothers, and welcome once again to the Church that is Within.

Do you ever feel like you are in a rut and you just Can't Get OUT of It? Is it that you can't or that you Won't?

********************************************
Quotes
*******
(From: Arnold Bennett)
The great advantage of being in a rut is that when one is in a rut, one knows exactly where one is.

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-160 Section-1)
Successful living is nothing more or less than the art of the mastery of dependable techniques for solving common problems. The first step in the solution of any problem is to locate the difficulty, to isolate the problem, and frankly to recognize its nature and gravity. The great mistake is that, when life problems excite our profound fears, we refuse to recognize them. Likewise, when the acknowledgment of our difficulties entails the reduction of our long-cherished conceit, the admission of envy, or the abandonment of deep-seated prejudices, the average person prefers to cling to the old illusions of safety and to the long-cherished false feelings of security. Only a brave person is willing honestly to admit, and fearlessly to face, what a sincere and logical mind discovers.

(From: Gerald Burrill)
The difference between a rut and a grave is the depth.

*******************************************
The Sermon
***********
The other day I was thinking about how easy it can be to get into and stay “in a rut”, and it made me think about stories my dad used to tell me about the early days of automobile popularity.

Almost every road was dirt and quite often had deep ruts in it. He told me about some roads that were so deeply rutted that you could drive for many, many miles without even having to put your hands on the steering wheel and the car would just follow right along where so many wheels had gone before. He said the ride was pretty rough though, because the wheels would continually bump up against the sides of the ruts and almost Never run straight and smooth. If you Tried to manually steer your way smoothly through the ruts it was even worse and your hands and wrists would get pretty bruised from keeping them on the steering wheel, so most would just sit back, bounce around and stay in the rut. Of course if one was willing to brave the jolt of getting his wheels Out of the rut, they could have a nice, smooth, and swift ride. You had to be attentive and focused on your driving when you were outside of the ruts or you would quickly and sometimes violently fall back into them… but if you were conscientious and diligent, the ride above the ruts was a Joy. Dad was always amazed how many people just consistently rode the ruts so that they wouldn't have to put out any effort… each pass making the ruts that little bit deeper and that little bit harder to get out of the Next time.

The drive along the Spiritual Road can seem a lot like that sometimes, can't it? Are you content to stay in the jerky ruts just so you don't have to put out any conscious effort, or are you one who would rather work and strive to keep above the ruts altogether?

*******************************************
The Prayer
**********
Dear God,
Steady my aim and keep me out of the ruts. I want to purposefully Enjoy my Journey to You!
