Truth is more of a stranger than fiction.

Welcome by: Pastor Daniel
************************
Greetings my Beloved Sisters and Brothers, and welcome once again to the Church that is Within.

In the past I've already done a number of Services about today's subject, but I don't think I've “worn it out” yet.

The topic of today's Sunday Service, #401, is Truth…

Quotes
*******
(From: The Tao Te Ching - #33)

Knowing others is intelligence;
knowing yourself is true wisdom.

(From: William Shakespeare (1564 - 1616), "Measure for Measure", Act 5 scene 1)
Truth is truth, To the end of reckoning.

(From: Galileo Galilei (1564 - 1642)
All truths are easy to understand once they are discovered; the point is to discover them.

(From: Charles Caleb Colton (1780 - 1832)
The greatest friend of Truth is time, her greatest enemy is Prejudice, and her constant companion Humility.

(From: Josh Billings (1818 - 1885)
As scarce as truth is, the supply has always been in excess of the demand.

(From: Sir Winston Churchill (1874 - 1965)
Men occasionally stumble over the truth, but most of them pick themselves up and hurry off as if nothing ever happened.

(From: Thomas Merton (1915 - 1968)
The truth that many people never understand, until it is too late, is that the more you try to avoid suffering the more you suffer because smaller and more insignificant things begin to torture you in proportion to your fear of being hurt.

(From: Herbert Agar)
The truth that makes men free is for the most part the truth which men prefer not to hear.

(From: The RSV Bible - Ephesians 4:254)
Therefore, putting away falsehood, let every one speak the truth with his neighbor, for we are members one of another.

(From: Henry Miller (1891 - 1980)
What does it matter how one comes by the truth so long as one pounces upon it and lives by it?

(From: Frank Lloyd Wright (1869 - 1959)
The truth is more important than the facts.

(From: Niels Bohr (1885 – 1962)
The opposite of a correct statement is a false statement. But the opposite of a profound truth may well be another profound truth.

(From: Thomas Paine (1737 - 1809)
Such is the irresistible nature of truth that all it asks, and all it wants, is the liberty of appearing.

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-132 Section-3)
But truth can never become man's possession without the exercise of faith. This is true because man's thoughts, wisdom, ethics, and ideals will never rise higher than his faith, his sublime hope. And all such true faith is predicated on profound reflection, sincere self-criticism, and uncompromising moral consciousness. Faith is the inspiration of the spiritized creative imagination.

(From: Teacher Daniel - 2/2/92 The S.E. Idaho TeaM)
Spiritual truths are those things which are found in many areas of your life. Spiritual truth is in the realm of spiritual awakening; that awakening of the soul, of the mind, of the heart, the willingness to be open to those things which make life real. A spiritual truth can only become real when we experience it, as well as knowing it in our hearts and our minds. There are many levels of awareness. In truth you must realize all of these levels for it to be real.

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-48 Section-7)
You cannot perceive spiritual truth until you feelingly experience it, and many truths are not really felt except in adversity.

(From: Simone de Beauvoir)
I tore myself away from the safe comfort of certainties through my love for the truth; and truth rewarded me.

(From: Martin Luther King Jr. (1929 - 1968)
I believe that unarmed truth and unconditional love will have the final word in reality. That is why right, temporarily defeated, is stronger than evil triumphant.

(From: Kahlil Gibran (1883 - 193104)
Say not, 'I have found the truth,' but rather, 'I have found a truth.'

(From: Quintus Septimius Tertullianus (160 AD - 230 AD)
Truth persuades by teaching, but does not teach by persuading.

(From: Teacher Daniel - 2/2/92 The S.E. Idaho TeaM)
You must seek the inner life. Seek the truth and the doors which have been closed will start to open for you. Know that God's love is part of this truth. This is, perhaps, the greatest truth of the universe. God truly loves you and reaches out to you. When you reach back, clarity and truth prevail.

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-2 Section-7)
The religious challenge of this age is to those farseeing and forward-looking men and women of spiritual insight who will dare to construct a new and appealing philosophy of living out of the enlarged and exquisitely integrated modern concepts of cosmic truth, universe beauty, and divine goodness. Such a new and righteous vision of morality will attract all that is good in the mind of man and challenge that which is best in the human soul. Truth, beauty, and goodness are divine realities, and as man ascends the scale of spiritual living, these supreme qualities of the Eternal become increasingly co-ordinated and unified in God, who is love.

*******************************************
The Sermon
***********
Just how important is Truth to you, Really?

Ask yourself… “Is it more important that I Hear the Truth or that I Tell the Truth?” …or… “Is it more important that I Know the Truth, or that I Live the Truth as I comprehend it?”

In truth, should there be any difference? Should they not all be Equally essential to one who truly Loves Truth? In Truth… are they?

Truth is the foundation for All growth and most particularly is this true for, Personal Spiritual Growth.

Think about how the discovery of a new “Physical/Material” Truth can benefit Medicine, Science, Technology, Society… even all of Human Civilization. Most would consider themselves wholeheartedly in favor of that kind of truth discovery, wouldn't you say?

But what about… the Other kind of Truths… the scary ones… the ones that reveal that our personal perceptions of Reality just might have been “Wrong” for a time…maybe even for a Long time… Maybe even, for a Life Time? Ya' ever notice how people tend to shy away from discovering Those kinds of Truths? Why is that do you think? I think it may be that they sub-consciously fear losing their personal sense of Identity… of who they believe their True Self to Be…
“What if I discover that all of my choices and decision were based on Lies?”
“Will I have to give up all that I've worked so hard for all of my life?”
“Will everyone resent me for being so Wrong?”
“Will I resent me for being so wrong?”
“Will my whole life just fall apart and disintegrate?”
“What if… I can not be ME anymore?”
Ever remember asking yourself any of those questions, …yet?

It has been my experience that embracing the “Scary” Truth… about Reality… about my immature perceptions… about Myself… does not ever invalidate my personal experiences. Rather does it make a more perfect sense of them all.

One Seeks to know the Truth rather naturally… You always want to Know the truth, don't you? But sometimes it's far more difficult to Be the Truth… don't you think?

TRUTH
We CAN have it All Ways always!
We just gotta crave it bad enough.

Truth… ya Gotta Love it.

Humor of the Week
*****************
One Sunday morning, the pastor noticed little Alex was staring up at the large plaque
that hung in the foyer of the church. It was covered with names, and small American flags were mounted on either side of it.

The seven year old had been staring at the plaque for some time, so the pastor walked up, stood beside the little boy, and said quietly, "Good morning, Alex."

"Good morning, Pastor," replied the young man, still focused on the plaque.
"Pastor, what is this?"

"Well, son, it's a memorial to all the young men and women who died in the service."

Soberly, they stood together, staring at the large plaque. Little Alex's voice was barely audible, trembling with fear, when he asked, "Which service, the 9:45 or the 11:15?"

Greetings my Beloved Sisters and Brothers, and welcome once again to the Church that is Within.

Well, here it is just a little over a week away from Summer '04 and I still haven't finished writing this year's first “Light and Life Sanctuary” Update. Maybe next week I should do a Service on Procrastination, ya Think? I'll have to put that sermon off until next week because…

The topic of today's Sunday Service, #402, is Insight…

********************************************
Quotes
*******
(From: WordNet ® 1.6, © 1997 Princeton University)
insight n 1: clear or deep perception of a situation 2: a feeling of understanding 3: the clear (and often sudden) understanding of a complex situation

(From: Fritjof Capra, physicist)
During periods of relaxation after concentrated intellectual activity, the intuitive mind seems to take over and can produce the sudden clarifying insights which give so much joy and delight.

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-180 Section-5)
The true child of universe insight looks for the living Spirit of Truth in every wise saying. The God-knowing individual is constantly elevating wisdom to the living-truth levels of divine attainment; the spiritually unprogressive soul is all the while dragging the living truth down to the dead levels of wisdom and to the domain of mere exalted knowledge.

(From: Welmek - 8/19/92 tmarchives.com)
There is an inherent capacity within each human to receive spiritual insight and love. In order for this capacity to enlarge, one must first empty out what reserves they have. By emptying or sharing this love, you immediately enlarge or increase your ability to love deeper and to receive more spiritual insight. As you share the Father's love, for it surely flows through you, you become one with the spirit within; and that in all of our goal, at least those of us who are ascending mortal creatures.

(From: The Tao Te Ching - #23)
If you open yourself to insight, you are at one with insight and you can use it completely.

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-12 Section-8)
But material-minded man is naturally more familiar with the material manifestations of a physical nature than with the equally real and mighty operations of a spiritual nature which are discerned only by the spiritual insight of the soul.

(From: Vincent van Gogh (1853 - 1890)
If one is master of one thing and understands one thing well, one has at the same time, insight into and understanding of many things.

(From: John Claypool)
We do not first get all the answers and then live in the light of our understanding. We must rather plunge into life meeting what we have to meet and experiencing what we have to experience and in the light of living try to understand, if insight comes at all, it will not before, but only through and after experience.

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-195 Section-5)
In religion, Jesus advocated and followed the method of experience, even as modern science pursues the technique of experiment. We find God through the leadings of spiritual insight, but we approach this insight of the soul through the love of the beautiful, the pursuit of truth, loyalty to duty, and the worship of divine goodness. But of all these values, love is the true guide to real insight.

(From: Machiventa - 7/4/93 The Dallas TeaM)
You reach for the Father's hand he reaches down to take your hand as you reach out for your brothers hand. God gives patience a beauty, loving a goodness, and freedom of insight a truth . When you graciously give to your brothers and sisters as God does for you than you see the truth in this beautiful story of the Father's goodness.

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-196 Section-3)
God is not the mere invention of man's idealism; he is the very source of all such superanimal insights and values. God is not a hypothesis formulated to unify the human concepts of truth, beauty, and goodness; he is the personality of love from whom all of these universe manifestations are derived. The truth, beauty, and goodness of man's world are unified by the increasing spirituality of the experience of mortals ascending toward Paradise realities. The unity of truth, beauty, and goodness can only be realized in the spiritual experience of the God-knowing personality.

(From: Oliver Wendell Holmes (1809 - 1894)
A moment's insight is sometimes worth a life's experience.

The Sermon
***********
I was going to write a big long Sermon on Insight, but then I looked once again at the word…

Insight

…and I saw it more as two words in interrelation to each other…

In-sight

…and then I figured… well, anyone who knows God from within, who at times hears “the still small voice,” they already Know where to go for a new or clearer Sight into things… In, Right?

So… since we all know where and from Whom true Insight comes (don't we?), I guess there really isn't much more I could share in a “big long Sermon” that would provide any better insight than just this little one-liner…

Our Soul and Spirit See With In-Sight.

*******************************************
The Prayer
**********
Dear God,
Sometimes my short-range insight gets a little bit fuzzy… could You maybe give me a stronger prescription for my short sightedness?

You ALL are Within the Infinitely Loving Embrace of our Universal
Parent,

The Creator's Infinite Love to all of You,

Humor of the Week
*****************
Due to inherit a fortune when his sickly, widower father died, Charles decided he needed a woman to enjoy it with. Going to a singles bar, he spotted a woman whose beauty took his breath away. “I'm just an ordinary man, he said, walking up to her, but in just a week or two, my father will die and I will inherit 20 million dollars.”

The woman went home with Charles, and the next day she became his stepmother.

Greetings my Beloved Sisters and Brothers, and welcome once again to the Church that is Within.

Last week I mentioned that this weeks Service would be on Procrastination, but it being Father's Day and all, I think I will put it off 'till next week. ;-)

The topic of today's Sunday Service, #403, is Fathers…

********************************************
Quotes
*******
(From: Austin L. Sorensen)

A child is not likely to find a father in God unless he finds something of God in his father.

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-196 Section-0)
The human Jesus saw God as being holy, just, and great, as well as being true, beautiful, and good. All these attributes of divinity he focused in his mind as the "will of the Father in heaven." Jesus' God was at one and the same time "The Holy One of Israel" and "The living and loving Father in heaven." The concept of God as a Father was not original with Jesus, but he exalted and elevated the idea into a sublime experience by achieving a new revelation of God and by proclaiming that every mortal creature is a child of this Father of love, a son of God.

(From: David B. Haight)
Love is this divine ingredient. It alone describes what can be our perfect relationship to our Heavenly Father and our family and neighbors, and the means by which we accomplish His work.

(From: The RSV Bible - Matthew 5:16)
Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.

(From: Gloria Steinem)
Most American children suffer too much mother and too little father.

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-159 Section-3)
A loving father does not frighten his children into yielding obedience to his just requirements.

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-54 Section-4)
Jesus' story of the prodigal son well illustrates how a loving father can long wait for the repentance of an erring child.

(From: Charles Wadsworth)
By the time a man realizes that maybe his father was right, he usually has a son who thinks he's wrong.

(From: Cary Grant (1904 - 1986)
My father used to say, 'Let them see you and not the suit. That should be secondary.'

(From: Charles Lamb (1775 - 1834)
I am determined that my children shall be brought up in their father's religion, if they can find out what it is.

*******************************************
The Sermon
***********
There are many different types/kinds of Fathers…

First and Foremost of course there is God the Father who is Perfect in Love, Perfect in Understanding, Perfect in Wisdom, Perfect in Compassion, Perfect in Mercy.

Then of course, there are the rest of us… more specifically, human fathers… none perfect by any means, but Hopefully in the long and Eternal process of Perfecting…

There are…

…Fathers who seem to constantly Strive to be Loving, Understanding, Wise, Respectful, Compassionate and Merciful.

…Fathers who seem to almost always Strive to be Loving, Understanding, Wise, Respectful, Compassionate and Merciful.

…Fathers who seem to usually Strive to be Loving, Understanding, Wise, Respectful, Compassionate and Merciful.

…Fathers who seem to often Strive to be Loving, Understanding, Wise, Respectful, Compassionate and Merciful.

…Fathers who seem to sometimes Strive to be Loving, Understanding, Wise, Respectful, Compassionate and Merciful.

…Fathers who seem to occasionally Strive to be Loving, Understanding, Wise, Respectful, Compassionate and Merciful.

…Fathers who seem to seldom Strive to be Loving, Understanding, Wise, Respectful, Compassionate and Merciful.

…Fathers who seem to rarely Strive to be Loving, Understanding, Wise, Respectful, Compassionate and Merciful.

…Fathers who seem to almost never Strive to be Loving, Understanding, Wise, Respectful, Compassionate and Merciful.

…Fathers who seem to never Strive to be Loving, Understanding, Wise, Respectful, Compassionate and Merciful.

…Fathers who's only claim to the title is nothing more than a bygone biological act.

But basically there are really only two kinds of human fathers…

…Fathers who Try to be good fathers

and,

…Fathers who don't try to be good fathers.

Try! You will be remembered for the times that you do.

Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it.

********************************************
Welcome by: Pastor Daniel
************************
Greetings my Beloved Sisters and Brothers, and welcome once again to the Church that is Within.

Today's Service is a relatively short but I think Important one that deals with something that all need to keep up with on a regular basis…

The topic of today's Sunday Service, #404, is Maintenance…

********************************************
Quotes
*******
(From: Oprah Winfrey, O Magazine, July 2003)

Energy is the essence of life. Every day you decide how you're going to use it by knowing what you want and what it takes to reach that goal, and by maintaining focus.

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-160 Section-2)
Isolation tends to exhaust the energy charge of the soul. Association with one's fellows is essential to the renewal of the zest for life and is indispensable to the maintenance of the courage to fight those battles consequent upon the ascent to the higher levels of human living. Friendship enhances the joys and glorifies the triumphs of life. Loving and intimate human associations tend to rob suffering of its sorrow and hardship of much of its bitterness. The presence of a friend enhances all beauty and exalts every goodness. By intelligent symbols man is able to quicken and enlarge the appreciative capacities of his friends. One of the crowning glories of human friendship is this power and possibility of the mutual stimulation of the imagination. Great spiritual power is inherent in the consciousness of wholehearted devotion to a common cause, mutual loyalty to a cosmic Deity.

(From: Cicero (106 BC - 43 BC)
We are obliged to respect, defend and maintain the common bonds of union and fellowship that exist among all members of the human race.

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-68 Section-2)
While the level of intelligence has contributed considerably to the rate of cultural progress, society is essentially designed to lessen the risk element in the individual's mode of living, and it has progressed just as fast as it has succeeded in lessening pain and increasing the pleasure element in life. Thus does the whole social body push on slowly toward the goal of destiny--extinction or survival--depending on whether that goal is self-maintenance or self-gratification. Self-maintenance originates society, while excessive self-gratification destroys civilization.

(From: Francis J. Braceland, O Magazine, April 2003)
We can be sure that the greatest hope for maintaining equilibrium in the face of any situation rests within ourselves.

(From: George Washington (1732 - 1799)
I hope I shall possess firmness and virtue enough to maintain what I consider the most enviable of all titles, the character of an honest man.

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-100 Section-2)
Spiritual development depends, first, on the maintenance of a living spiritual connection with true spiritual forces and, second, on the continuous bearing of spiritual fruit: yielding the ministry to one's fellows of that which has been received from one's spiritual benefactors. Spiritual progress is predicated on intellectual recognition of spiritual poverty coupled with the self-consciousness of perfection-hunger, the desire to know God and be like him, the wholehearted purpose to do the will of the Father in heaven.

*******************************************
The Sermon
***********
If one does not regularly maintain their body---with adequate food, water, rest and exercise---then physical health suffers and the body is more prone to sickness, disease, even death.

So also do our Souls require regular maintenance---Spiritual Nourishment, the Soul Quenching 'Water of Life', Rest from the physical and emotional demands of survival through the Diversions of Worship/Music/Art, and let us not forget sufficient Spiritual Exercise (ie: Service).

Do you spend as much time in maintenance of Your Immortal Soul as you do maintaining your mortal/temporary/human body?

Should you?

*******************************************
The Prayer
**********
Dear God,
        Your Love Maintains me.

You ALL are Within the Infinitely Loving Embrace of our Universal
Parent,

The Creator's Infinite Love to all of You,
Pastor Daniel
