Greetings my Beloved Sisters and Brothers, and welcome once again to the Church that is Within.

Is it easier for you to remember what you like about people than what you dislike?
Is it easier for you to remember the Good, or the bad? What would you rather remember?

The topic of today's Sunday Service, #450, is Memories/Remembering…

Quotes
*******
(From: Harry S Truman (1884 - 1972)
I always remember an epitaph which is in the cemetery at Tombstone, Arizona. It says: 'Here lies Jack Williams. He done his damnedest.' I think that is the greatest epitaph a man can have - When he gives everything that is in him to do the job he has before him. That is all you can ask of him and that is what I have tried to do.

(From: Mahatma Gandhi (1869 - 1948)
When I despair, I remember that all through history the ways of truth and love have always won. There have been tyrants, and murderers, and for a time they can seem invincible, but in the end they always fall. Think of it – always.

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-155 Section-6)
Never forget there is only one adventure which is more satisfying and thrilling than the attempt to discover the will of the living God, and that is the supreme experience of honestly trying to do that divine will. And fail not to remember that the will of God can be done in any earthly occupation. Some callings are not holy and others secular. All things are sacred in the lives of those who are spirit led; that is, subordinated to truth, ennobled by love, dominated by mercy, and restrained by fairness--justice.

(From: William Wordsworth (1770 - 1850)
That best portion of a good man's life,
His little, nameless, unremembered acts of kindness and of love.

(From: Oscar Levant (1906 - 1972)
Happiness isn't something you experience; it's something you remember.

(From: Epicurus (341 BC - 270 BC)
Do not spoil what you have by desiring what you have not; but remember that what you now have was once among the things only hoped for.

(From: Noah Porter (1811 - 1892)
Remember that what you believe will depend very much on what you are.

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-160 Section-4)
Train your memory to hold in sacred trust the strength-giving and worth-while episodes of life, which you can recall at will for your pleasure and edification. Thus build up for yourself and in yourself reserve galleries of beauty, goodness, and artistic grandeur. But the noblest of all memories are the treasured recollections of the great moments of a superb friendship.

(From: Howard Newton)
People forget how fast you did a job - but they remember how well you did it.

(From: Bruce Lee (1940 - 1973)
The key to immortality is first to live a life worth remembering.

(From: Madame de Stael (1766 - 1817)
Sow good services; sweet remembrances will grow them.

(From: Epictetus (55 AD - 135 AD)
Difficulties show men what they are. In case of any difficulty remember that God has pitted you against a rough antagonist that you may be a conqueror, and this cannot be without toil.

(From: Daniel Burnham)
Make no little plans; they have no magic to stir men's blood and probably will themselves not be realized. Make big plans; aim high in hope and work, remembering that a noble, logical diagram once recorded will not die.

(From Epictetus (55 AD - 135 AD)
When you close your doors, and make darkness within, remember never to say that you are alone, for you are not alone; nay, God is within, and your genius is within. And what need have they of light to see what you are doing?

(From: Ida Scott Taylor)
One day at a time- this is enough. Do not look back and grieve over the past, for it is gone; and do not be troubled about the future, for it has not yet come. Live in the present, and make it so beautiful that it will be worth remembering.

*******************************************
The Sermon
***********
How do you think will you be remembered when you “Graduate” from this life to the next?

How would you Like to be Remembered?

Would you rather be remembered…
…for how you died, or for how you lived?
…for your failures, or for your successes?
…for how much you were feared, or for how much you were loved?
…for the material possessions you amassed, or for the loving way you treated people?
…for your temper, or for your humor?
…for what you did To others, or for what you did For others?
…as an enemy, or as a friend?
        …as selfish, or as giving?

Being human and hardly perfect, it is likely that each of us will at some point be remembered by someone, somewhere, for each of these things… some negative, some positive.

Do you think there is anything you can do for the rest of your life to tip the scales toward the side you would prefer?

Think there ain't?

*******************************************
The Prayer
**********
Dear God,
I would like to be remembered most on this world as one who loved… as one who cared… as one who was dedicated… as one with passion, and more especially as one with Compassion. Guide me on this pathway.

You ALL are Within the Infinitely Loving Embrace of our Universal
Parent,

The Creator's Infinite Love to all of You,

The topic of today's Sunday Service, #451, is Being In Love…

********************************************
Quotes
*******
(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-100 Section-4)
You cannot truly love your fellows by a mere act of the will. Love is only born of thoroughgoing understanding of your neighbor's motives and sentiments. It is not so important to love all men today as it is that each day you learn to love one more human being. If each day or each week you achieve an understanding of one more of your fellows, and if this is the limit of your ability, then you are certainly socializing and truly spiritualizing your personality. Love is infectious, and when human devotion is intelligent and wise, love is more catching than hate. But only genuine and unselfish love is truly contagious. If each mortal could only become a focus of dynamic affection, this benign virus of love would soon pervade the sentimental emotion-stream of humanity to such an extent that all civilization would be encompassed by love, and that would be the realization of the brotherhood of man.

(From: J.R.R. Tolkien, The Fellowship of the Ring)
The world is indeed full of peril, and in it there are many dark places; but still there is much that is fair; and though in all lands love is now mingled with grief, it grows perhaps the greater.

(From: Robert Heinlein (1907 - 1988), Stranger in a Strange Land)
Love is the condition in which the happiness of another person is essential to your own.... Jealousy is a disease, love is a healthy condition. The immature mind often mistakes one for the other, or assumes that the greater the love the greater the jealousy.

(From: Aaron - 12/6/2002– the S.E. Idaho TeaM)
True love is always in action. It is always moving. Love is not just feeling, though it has a feeling component, of course, but love is allowing the movement through you, from God through you, to another one.

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-100 Section-4)
If you could only fathom the motives of your associates, how much better you would understand them. If you could only know your fellows, you would eventually fall in love with them.

(From: Anton Chekhov (1860 - 1904)
Perhaps the feelings that we experience when we are in love represent a normal state. Being in love shows a person who he should be.

(From: Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803 - 1882)
He who is in love is wise and is becoming wiser, sees newly every time he looks at the object beloved, drawing from it with his eyes and his mind those virtues which it possesses.

(From: Martha Beck)
Whoever said love is blind is dead wrong. Love is the only thing that lets us see each other with the remotest accuracy…

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-117 Section-6)
All true love is from God, and man receives the divine affection as he himself bestows this love upon his fellows. Love is dynamic. It can never be captured; it is alive, free, thrilling, and always moving. Man can never take the love of the Father and imprison it within his heart. The Father's love can become real to mortal man only by passing through that man's personality as he in turn bestows this love upon his fellows.

(From: Euripides (484 BC - 406 BC)
Love is all we have, the only way that each can help the other.

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-56 Section-10)
Love is the desire to do good to others.

(From: Deepak Chopra)
The spiritual meaning of love is measured by what it can do. Love is meant to heal. Love is meant to renew. Love is meant to bring us closer to God.

(From: Iris Murdoch (1919 – 1999)
Love is the difficult realization that something other than oneself is real.

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-156 Section-5)
Love is never self-seeking, and it cannot be self-bestowed. Divine love cannot be self-contained; it must be unselfishly bestowed.

(From: Erich Fromm (1900 - 1980)
Love is union with somebody, or something, outside oneself, under the condition of retaining the separateness and integrity of one's own self.

(From: Dr. Seuss (1904 - 1991)
You know you're in love when you can't fall asleep because reality is finally better than your dreams.

(From: Erica Jong)
Do you want me to tell you something really subversive? Love is everything its cracked up to be. That's why people are so cynical about it...it really is worth fighting for, being brave for, risking everything for. And the trouble is, if you don't risk anything, you risk even more.

(From: Minearisa - 6/14/2002– the S.E. Idaho TeaM)
One of the human aspects of being "in love" is the loss of self-centeredness. When you are in the grip of romantic passion with another person, that person's life is your center of attention. In human experience that passion mellows, but in true love there is always that "other" centeredness which, in a mature relationship, is balanced with appropriate self love as well.

(From: Alexander Smith (1830 - 1867)
Love is but the discovery of ourselves in others, and the delight in the recognition.

(From Ayn Rand (1905 - 1982), Atlas Shrugged)
Love is our response to our highest values. Love is self-enjoyment. The noblest love is born out of admiration of another's values.

(From: Paulo Coelho)
To love is to commune with another person and to discover in him or her a divine spark.

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-3 Section-1)
"You are of God" because "he who dwells in love dwells in God, and God in him."

(From: The RSV Bible - Corinthians I 13:1-7)
If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. If I give away all I have, and if I deliver my body to be burned, but have not love, I gain nothing.
Love is patient and kind; love is not jealous or boastful; it is not arrogant or rude. Love does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrong, but rejoices in the right. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

*******************************************
The Sermon
***********
Although that Special Kind of Love shared between two persons who wish to share the greater and most intimate parts of their lives with one another is typically, and socially, accepted as “Being in Love,” there is another kind of “Being In Love” that I would like to consider today.

It's more of an overall “Condition” or a “State” that one is in, rather than having a particular individual focus for one's Love. Indeed it may (and will), include those with whom you have a close and personal relationship with, but it is not limited to them… truly cannot be limited in any way whatsoever. In it, there can Be no exclusions. You are surrounded by it, saturated with it, energized, invigorated, stimulated, and motivated because of it. It is the feeling of being “As One” with the very Source of Love… of being in Union with God.

“In Love” there is no fear, nor hatred, nor prejudice, nor jealousy, for those things are not even a part of “True Reality” when “In Love”… they have no meaning when “In Love”… they have no place to exist “In Love.”

Being “In Love” is attainable; most have experienced it at one time or another, perhaps even frequently and yet, when the moment is passed, doubt and disbelief are quick to take its' place. “Was I there?”; “Was it Real?”; “Did I imagine it?”

Being “In Love” is not in the past (though memory of it may well be), nor is it in the future (though the future may witness it). Being “In Love” is only Now… it can only BE Now. You can hardly decide to be “In Love”… like, “OK, I'm going to be “In Love” now.” But you can choose to Accept being “In Love”… inevitably you must if being there is your true inner desire… but one must be willing to unconditionally let go of all else that is not Love. It's a challenging and difficult choice to make. Only “In Love” can one see how purely simple the choice was.

Have you ever been “In Love”?

Are you “In Love”?

*******************************************
The Prayer
**********
Dear God,
Though I find it quite impossible to use the same “doorway” into Your Love more than once, You never fail to show me the New entryway when my sincerity and desire is pure. Purify me dear Lord. I wish to be “In Love” with You.

You ALL are Within the Infinitely Loving Embrace of our Universal
Parent,

The Creator's Infinite Love to all of You,
Pastor Daniel

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-174 Section-1)
"When a wise man understands the inner impulses of his fellows, he will love them. And when you love your brother, you have already forgiven him. This capacity to understand man's nature and forgive his apparent wrongdoing is Godlike. If you are wise parents, this is the way you will love and understand your children, even forgive them when transient misunderstanding has apparently separated you. The child, being immature and lacking in the fuller understanding of the depth of the child-father relationship, must frequently feel a sense of guilty separation from a father's full approval, but the true father is never conscious of any such separation

(From: Austin L. Sorensen)
A child is not likely to find a father in God unless he finds something of God in his father.

(From: The RSV Bible - Matthew 5:16)

Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-159 Section-3)
A loving father does not frighten his children into yielding obedience to his just requirements.

(From: The RSV Bible - John 5:19)
Jesus said to them, "Truly, truly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of his own accord, but only what he sees the Father doing; for whatever he does, that the Son does likewise.

(From: The ASB Bible - Matthew 7:9-11)
"Or what man is there among you who, when his son asks for a loaf, will give him a stone? "Or if he asks for a fish, he will not give him a snake, will he? "If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give what is good to those who ask Him!

(From: Gloria Steinem)
Most American children suffer too much mother and too little father.

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-145 Section-2)
"You well know that, while a kindhearted father loves his family as a whole, he so regards them as a group because of his strong affection for each individual member of that family.

(From: Margo Kaufman)
I once complained to my father that I didn't seem to be able to do things the same way other people did. Dad's advice? 'Margo, don't be a sheep. People hate sheep. They eat sheep.'

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-143 Section-1)
A father's love for his son oftentimes impels the father to restrain the unwise acts of his thoughtless offspring. The child does not always comprehend the wise and loving motives of the father's restraining discipline.

(From: Mark Twain (1835 - 1910)
When I was fourteen, my father was so ignorant I could hardly stand to have him around. When I got to be twenty-one, I was astonished at how much he had learned in seven years.

(From: Charles Wadsworth)
By the time a man realizes that maybe his father was right, he usually has a son who thinks he's wrong.

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-149 Section-6)
"When children are young and unthinking, they must necessarily be admonished to honor their parents; but when they grow older and become somewhat more appreciative of the benefits of the parental ministry and protection, they are led up, through understanding respect and increasing affection, to that level of experience where they actually love their parents for what they are more than for what they have done. The father naturally loves his child, but the child must develop his love for the father from the fear of what the father can do, through awe, dread, dependence, and reverence, to the appreciative and affectionate regard of love.

(From: The RSV Bible - Luke 12:32)
"Fear not, little flock, for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom.

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-177 Section-2)
As long as we teach the child to pray, "Our Father who is in heaven," a tremendous responsibility rests upon all earthly fathers so to live and order their homes that the word father becomes worthily enshrined in the minds and hearts of all growing children.

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-2 Section-6)
Righteousness may be the divine thought, but love is a father's attitude.

After a church service on Sunday morning, a young boy suddenly announced to his mother, "Mom, I've decided to become a minister when I grow up."
"That's okay with me, but what made you decide that?"
"Well," said the little boy, "I have to go to church on Sunday anyway, and I figure, it will be more fun to stand up and yell than to sit and listen."

Welcome by: Pastor Daniel
************************
Greetings my Beloved Sisters and Brothers, and welcome once again to the Church that is Within.

I Must have---at some point or other---previously written another Sunday Service with a theme somewhat similar to today's. Likely it is, that I have as well even used more than one or two of today's “Quotes” in a previous Service or two (though perhaps unlikely in this particular configuration).
But… with the state of the world right now… and the attitudes of most of the world's leaders (not to mention, more than a few “religious” sects)… and even the noteworthy way of thinking for so many of “The People” (us and everybody else ;-)… well… I just thought that it would be appropriate to address this particular Topic once again (even at the risk of possibly doing somewhat of a repeat)…

The topic of today's Sunday Service, #453, is Peace…

********************************************
Quotes
*******
(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-100 Section-6)
One of the most amazing earmarks of religious living is that dynamic and sublime peace, that peace which passes all human understanding, that cosmic poise which betokens the absence of all doubt and turmoil. Such levels of spiritual stability are immune to disappointment. Such religionists are like the Apostle Paul, who said: "I am persuaded that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor anything else shall be able to separate us from the love of God."

(From: The RSV Bible - Romans 8:6)
To set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace.

(From: William Shakespeare (1564 - 1616)
I feel within me a peace above all earthly dignities, a still and quiet conscience.

(From: Jawaharlal Nehru (1889 - 1964)
Peace is not a relationship of nations. It is a condition of mind brought about by a serenity of soul. Peace is not merely the absence of war. It is also a state of mind. Lasting peace can come only to peaceful people.

(From: Elisabeth Kubler-Ross)
There is no need to go to India or anywhere else to find peace. You will find that deep place of silence right in your room, your garden or even your bathtub.

(From: Peter Minard)
Not merely an absence of noise, Real Silence begins when a reasonable being withdraws from the noise in order to find peace and order in his inner sanctuary.

(From: Marvin Gaye)
If you cannot find peace within yourself, you will never find it anywhere else.

(From: Thomas a Kempis (1380 - 1471)
First keep the peace within yourself, then you can also bring peace to others.

(From: Carlos Santana)
Real peace comes from enlightenment, and educating people to behave more in a divine manner.

(From: Albert Einstein (1879 - 1955)
Peace cannot be kept by force. It can only be achieved by understanding.

(From: Martin Luther King Jr. (1929 - 1968), "Strength to Love")
The hope of a secure and livable world lies with disciplined nonconformists who are dedicated to justice, peace and brotherhood.

(From: John F. Kennedy (1917 - 1963)
But peace does not rest in the charters and covenants alone. It lies in the hearts and minds of all people. So let us not rest all our hopes on parchment and on paper, let us strive to build peace, a desire for peace, a willingness to work for peace in the hearts and minds of all of our people. I believe that we can. I believe the problems of human destiny are not beyond the reach of human beings.

(From: Dalai Lama)
It is essential to know that to be a happy person, a happy family, a happy society, it is very crucial to have a good heart, that is very crucial. World peace must develop from inner peace. Peace is not just the absence of violence but the manifestation of human compassion.

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-181 Section-1)
The peace of Jesus is, then, the peace and assurance of a son who fully believes that his career for time and eternity is safely and wholly in the care and keeping of an all-wise, all-loving, and all-powerful spirit Father. And this is, indeed, a peace which passes the understanding of mortal mind, but which can be enjoyed to the full by the believing human heart.

(From: The KJV Bible - Luke 2:14)
Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.

(From: Mahatma Gandhi (1869 - 1948)
There is no path to peace. Peace is the path.

(From: John Lennon (1940 - 1980)
All we are saying,
is give peace a chance.

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-157 Section-2)
“Be only concerned with the spirit of living truth and the power of true religion. It is not the fear of a dead religion that will save you but rather your faith in a living experience in the spiritual realities of the kingdom. Do not allow yourselves to become blinded by prejudice and paralyzed by fear. Neither permit reverence for the traditions so to pervert your understanding that your eyes see not and your ears hear not. It is not the purpose of true religion merely to bring peace but rather to insure progress. And there can be no peace in the heart or progress in the mind unless you fall wholeheartedly in love with truth, the ideals of eternal realities. The issues of life and death are being set before you--the sinful pleasures of time against the righteous realities of eternity. Even now you should begin to find deliverance from the bondage of fear and doubt as you enter upon the living of the new life of faith and hope. And when the feelings of service for your fellow men arise within your soul, do not stifle them; when the emotions of love for your neighbor well up within your heart, give expression to such urges of affection in intelligent ministry to the real needs of your fellows."

(From: The RSV Bible - Romans 14:19)
Let us then pursue what makes for peace and for mutual upbuilding.

*******************************************
The Sermon
***********
So now… after having read the Quotes (you Did, didn't you? ;-)… it is likely that you know which Peace (at least intellectually if not experientially), that I was referring to when I first introduced the topic. You know it! You've Felt it! You Want It! Perhaps… you've had it and now want it Back.

Yes. It is “that peace which passes all human understanding.” No one can give it to you… you can't buy it… it comes not from what you eat, wear, drive or live in… wealth nor power over others can bring you a single step closer to it… Fame nor Title nor Degree commands it. The Only way you can Get it is to Reach Out and Accept it. It is Yours by Birthright, as a child of God… but you must Allow it, you must Choose it, you must be willing to give up or forgo Anything that may stand in the way of it.

One Particular thing comes to mind that invariably, perhaps inevitably, stifles, if not completely Obstructs the potential for Peace---Worldwide, Nationally, Locally, Personally--- it is the myth of “Control”. Not “Self Control” mind you, which is something all must continually strive for, but rather control over anything, or anyone, Other than the Self. Am I so perfect in my own Self Control that I justifiably feel competent to attempt to control the actions or decisions of Others? Would not Wisdom and good sense demand that I leave THAT level of control unto God and the other person? Would you be willing to give up Control? No… not to anyone else but God. But are you willing to give complete control of your life to God… even Self Control?

Therein lies “that peace which passes all human understanding.” Accept that
God is Indeed, in Control. You need not Fret, you need not Stress, you need not Control. Hey! Let Go!!! God's got it, OK?

Peace be With You… most especially Within you!

Dear God,
My Soul quite Naturally wants Peace… why is it that my Ego is so hard to convince?
