Church Within's "Light and Life Garden Retreat" Update
***************************************************
For the past several plus months we have been engaged in a complete remodeling of the Church Within Office and preparing for the eventual addition of a Jacuzzi Spa. Those two (of Many) phases of construction have now been completed, although there are still a few refinements yet to be made. Yesterday, with the help of friends, we installed the Jacuzzi. Thank You God!!!

When you come to Visit or Retreat, bring along your swimming suits!

Greetings my Beloved Sisters and Brothers, and welcome once again to the Church that is Within.

What do you think God's Will is? Not God's Will for any Other, but God's Will for You?

(From: the Tao Te Ching #3)
The Master leads
by emptying people's minds
and filling their cores,
by weakening their ambition
and toughening their resolve.
He helps people lose everything
they know, everything they desire,
and creates confusion
in those who think that they know.

(From: Gandhi)
In the attitude of silence the soul finds the path in a clearer light, and what is elusive and deceptive resolves itself into crystal clearness. Our life is a long and arduous quest after Truth.

(from: Thomas A. Edison)
Many of life's failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up.

(From: Marcus Aurelius)
Look well into thyself; there is a source of strength which will always spring up if thou wilt always look there.

(From: Tomas 2/25/01 - North Idaho TeaM)
As you develop your association with the infinite God, your vantage point is extended and expanded to offer up your mind and soul for those impressions that might lend your consciousness to a greater understanding of what can come to pass, not based on your wisdom or calculations of a logical outcome, but based on the glimpses of eternal truth that come to you from the source of your being.

(From: The Urantia Papers – Paper-132 Section-7)
That which the enlightened and reflective human imagination of spiritual teaching and leading wholeheartedly and unselfishly wants to do and be, becomes measurably creative in accordance with the degree of mortal dedication to the divine doing of the Father's will. When man goes in partnership with God, great things may, and do, happen.

(From: the American Standard Bible - Luke 11:10)
"For everyone who asks, receives; and he who seeks, finds; and to him who knocks, it will be opened.

(From: Elyon 2/25/01 - North Idaho TeaM)
All effort made to acquire a skill results in you becoming adept at that skill. In order to become adept you must learn to adapt. Adaptation implies flexibility in order to release from previous patterns, to be open to accumulating new patterns and skill. But it also implies application of that which you have attained to new methods of expression. This is part of a cycle that can yield insecurity or uncertainty, but it is also a time of excitement, the thrill of new territory, the chance for new expression or to express what one's ideals held but one's abilities could not express. When you have become adept there is the sense of accomplishment, that gratification that one is capable of growth and accomplishment yielding skill and ability that beforehand were not a possession, at times of doubt appear to be unattainable and yet in reality are now part of you.

(From: the Tao Te Ching #8)
When you are content to be simply yourself and don't compare or compete, everybody will respect you.

(From: The Urantia Papers – Paper-132 Section-7)
“The religions of men grow up over long periods of time, while the revelations of God flash upon earth in the lives of the men who reveal God to their fellows."

(From: the RSV Bible - Luke 6:35-36)
But love your enemies, and do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return; and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High; for he is kind to the ungrateful and the selfish. Be merciful, even as your Father is merciful.

(From: The Urantia Papers – Paper-132 Section-7)
If we know God, our real business on earth is so to live as to permit the Father to reveal himself in our lives, and thus will all God-seeking persons see the Father and ask for our help in finding out more about the God who in this manner finds expression in our lives."

The Sermon
***********
I always used to think that to do God's Will meant that I had to go to church... read Religious/Sacred/Scriptural Writings... act all Pious and Holy.

I think that No Longer.
Now I Know that doing God's Will is that I discover, and to the best of my ability, Experience Truth, Beauty, Goodness and Love Wherever I am, in Everything I do with Childlike Wonder, Excitement and Determination.

I always used to think that to do God's Will meant that I wouldn't be able to do any of the things that I really liked to do any more.

I always used to think that to do God's Will meant that I would Have to do things that I really Didn't Like to do.

I think that No Longer.
Now I Know that doing God's Will is doing those things that Fulfill my heart and soul's Inner Cravings... Deepest Longings... most Cherished Dreams.

I always used to think that to do God's Will meant that I couldn't be who I really Wanted to be.

I always used to think that to do God's Will meant that I would have to be somebody that I Wasn't.

I think that No Longer.
Now I Know that doing God's Will helps me to Become who I really always Wanted to be, shows me who I was, who I really Am, and who I have the Potential to be.

I always used to think that to do God's Will meant that I would have to give up my Own will.

I always used to think that to do God's Will meant that I would lose my freedom to live my life the way I Wanted to.

I think that No Longer.
Now I Know that doing God's Will IS my True will and that it Gives me release from a prison I didn't even know I was In, into an Extraordinary Freedom I never imagined Existed.
Now I Know that doing God's Will is what LETS me live my life the way I have always wanted to.

God's Will is that we Devote ourselves to Discovering, Experiencing, and Living - Truth, Beauty, Goodness and Love. What more could one Want?

Everyone has a Worthy Dream
Even though impossible it may seem.

What if it's what God wants Most for you?
Would it Still be impossible then? Ya Think?

Of course, if we never reach for it, we'll never really Know, Will we?

(From: Henry David Thoreau [1817 – 1862])
Our truest life is when we are in our dreams awake.

(From: Socrates, quoted by Plato, 'The Death of Socrates')
I do nothing but go about persuading you all, old and young alike, not to take thought for your persons or your properties, but and chiefly to care about the greatest improvement of the soul. I tell you that virtue is not given by money, but that from virtue comes money and every other good of man, public as well as private. This is my teaching, and if this is the doctrine which corrupts the youth, I am a mischievous person.

(from: Buddha)
A family is a place where minds come in contact with one another. If these minds love one another the home will be as beautiful as a flower garden. But if these minds get out of harmony with one another it is like a storm that plays havoc with the garden.
(From: The Urantia Papers – Paper-133 Section-5)
Mathematics asserts that, if one person stands for a certain unit of intellectual and moral value, ten persons would stand for ten times this value. But in dealing with human personality it would be nearer the truth to say that such a personality association is a sum equal to the square of the number of personalities concerned in the equation rather than the simple arithmetical sum. A social group of human beings in co-ordinated working harmony stands for a force far greater than the simple sum of its parts.

(From: John F. Kennedy)
We need men who can dream of things that never were.

(From: Welmek Transcript 2/1/01)
Dare to dream those realities deep within your heart. Why are they there? Why do you dream about them? Do you not see that these have been placed within you as the unfolding of your personality and the gifts that you bring to this world to share with your brothers and sisters? Why would you not honor yourselves and bring this forth in a more persistent and consistent fashion? What is there to lose?

(From: “The Impossible Dream” - From Man of LaMancha Lyrics by Joe Darion)
To dream ... the impossible dream ...
To fight ... the unbeatable foe ...
To bear ... with unbearable sorrow ...
To run ... where the brave dare not go ...
To right ... the unrightable wrong ...
To love ... pure and chaste from afar ...
To try ... when your arms are too weary ...
To reach ... the unreachable star ...

This is my quest, to follow that star ...
No matter how hopeless, no matter how far ...
To fight for the right, without question or pause ...
To be willing to march into Hell, for a Heavenly cause ...

(From: Johann von Schiller)
Keep true to the dreams of thy youth.

The Sermon
***********

The child craves the Growing Up,
so to slake the thirst of his Dreams.
For his Dreams can be Real, beyond all doubt;
At least as a child, so it seems.

When one dream fades, what Matter?
        Another takes it's place.
His Hope is yet Unquenchable
        Discouragement? No Trace!

He cannot be defeated,
There will Always be A Way.”
He might not Yet have found it,
But he Will… he WILL... Some day!

Now Older, those Dreams Forgotten;
        now Others take their place.
“I Gotta make my Fortune!”
        “I Gotta Win the Race!”

He'll get back to them… He Will… “Some day.”
“But Now is not the Time.”
“There's Just so Much to Do first,
        and Other things to climb.”

The quest for wealth yet un-sated;
“I NEED more to be Free!”
But “more” became a Prison
with Bars he could not See.

Now Middle Age overtakes him;
He can't seem to get out from under.
So much always seemed to get in the way
“What Were those dreams?” He wonders.

“Well it's To Late Now,” he makes the excuse.
“To think that it's not, is Naive.”
“They were only just Childish… Unrealistic.”
He just Couldn't afford to believe.

To chance another disappointment,
        He simply would not dare.
He'd rather risk not trying,
Than a failure he couldn't bear.

Now Old… discontented… he wonders,
What Else could he have done?
Risk Everything and Lose it…
        in front of Everyone?

But his life just felt so incomplete…
        so unfulfilled, so hollow.
It could have been better, surely no worse,
if his dreams he'd chosen to follow.

If only he could start over,
if he could just live his life once again,
he'd follow his Heart Wherever it led
        he'd be more satisfied then.

        (Pastor Daniel - 3/2001)

I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.

(From: Mary Manin Morrissey)
If we look at a field as our life, the crop we harvest is our experience of life. If we don't consciously sow our thoughts, the seeds we plant may just be weeds from our past so that we repeat the same patterns over and over. If we sow new thoughts and tend the field with care, we can realize the Kingdom of Heaven on earth, right in the field of our life.

The Sermon
***********
Today I was reading an article in a national religious publication entitled “Writing in the Margins of Our Lives.” The title alone intrigued me.

The author relayed a story of standing in the living room of the parents of a friend of his. The friend was at home saying good-bye to his aging parents before embarking on an extended trip. The author picked up a book clearly owned by his friend, but in which the friend's mother had written her comments in the margins of the book. I chuckled a bit, as I used to underline and write in the margins of all of my books. You could always tell if I had read a book! It made it interesting to go back and re-read a book, or to lend it to someone else, for that matter.

It got me to thinking that if our lives are like a book, what is being written in its margins? What would God write in those margins? Others whom we have encountered? My book has pages that are pretty well worn, with dog-ears and pages loosened from the binding. The book itself is tattered and torn. White spaces are filled with comments and even doodles. Things are underlined, exclamation points are added and comments are made. But what is written there in the white spaces of the book?

I know what I would like to see written: “Inspiring,” “Courageous,” “Awesome,” “Loving,” “Kind,” “Generous,” “Loyal,” “Trustworthy,” “Persevering,” “Patient,” “Talented,” “Forgiving,” “Intent,” “Listener,” “Teacher,” “Dedicated,” “Creative,” etc.

I also know that other things would be written there as well: “Couldn't always be counted on, “Disloyal,” “caused me hurt,” “stern,” “judgmental,” “self-centered,” “caustic,” “sarcastic,” “angry,” “couldn't make time for me,” “weak,” “critical,” etc. While I would like for there to be only positive things in those margins, I am fully aware of the negatives as well. The good news is that my book is still telling a story; it is still being read and the margins are still being written in. I still have time to shape what is being written. One exercise I have taken quite a liking to lately is that of “behaving or living as if.” The concept asks that we envision how it is that we want for things to be and acting as if they are already true. The theory is that by doing so, we begin to create those future things as current reality. We grow into those things we desire to be. We begin to plant the seeds we wish to harvest. So, what is in your seed bag today? What will be written in the margins of the book of your life? It is not too late, today, for any one of us to turn the pages of our book and allow the opportunity for more positives to be written than negatives.

*******************************************
The Prayer
**********
Loving God,

You are the ultimate storyteller. As we weave our stories, help us to sow more positive seeds than negative ones. Help us to create a story others want to be part of, experience lovingly, and comment on with joy. With your help and our focus on doing your will, the margins of our lives can be filled with comments that truly are a reflection of your goodness.

Amen.

God's love and abundant blessings,

Judy Girard,
Minister

(From: Albert Schweitzer)
Until he extends his circle of compassion to include all living things, man will not himself find peace.

(From: George Washington Carver)
How far you go in life depends on your being tender with the young, compassionate with the aged, sympathetic with the striving and tolerant of the weak and strong. Because someday in your life you will have been all of these.

(From: The Urantia Papers – Paper-140 Section-8)
The Master came to create in man a new spirit, a new will--to impart a new capacity for knowing the truth, experiencing compassion, and choosing goodness--the will to be in harmony with God's will, coupled with the eternal urge to become perfect, even as the Father in heaven is perfect.

(From: The Urantia Papers – Paper-171 Section-7)
Jesus really understood men; therefore could he manifest genuine sympathy and show sincere compassion. But he seldom indulged in pity. While his compassion was boundless, his sympathy was practical, personal, and constructive. Never did his familiarity with suffering breed indifference, and he was able to minister to distressed souls without increasing their self-pity.

The Sermon
***********
Good morning, all.

Spring time is a very special time of year for me. Each morning as I look out my window, I see signs of new life, born out of the roots of the old life. Nature seems to be so much smarter than me!

With Grace and ease, the plant releases its old growth during the Fall season to allow for the Winter season of rest. Its past year's growth is recognized as having served its purpose. The plant releases the old growth willingly. The old growth has nurtured the plant and made it stronger. It is no longer needed, and in fact, if held onto, will prevent further growth, or. . . cause new growth to Struggle Very Hard to push through the old in order to get the breath of the sweet Spring air and the light and warmth of the sun.

Are you ready for Your new Spring growth? If you take the time to look at your past year, are you able to recognize the growth opportunities that presented themselves? Can you see how they made you stronger…mentally, emotionally, spiritually? Can you see which opportunities have completed their purpose? With that wisdom, are you Willing to let them go with Grace and Loving Appreciation? That's the tough part for most of us. Can we Really let go, emotionally, of those experiences that seemed so painful at the time?

If we look through God's eyes, He will show us how the challenge was actually a gift in disguise.

Can we invite God's eyes to be our eyes so that we may See the challenges through His Eyes of Loving Compassion, instead of hurt and pain? Do you suppose That is what it is All About?

I have to ask myself, “Do I want to Struggle to let in the new growth that life and God are ready to give me?” No!

“Do I want to hold on to all that old resentment, hurt, self pity that make new growth a struggle?” I don't Think so!

“Wouldn't I prefer to See the past year through God's eyes; the painful experiences as gifts of growth instead of as pain? Yes!

“Wouldn't I prefer to greet my life's new challenges this Spring with excitement? Yes!

Wouldn't I prefer to experience each new life challenge bathed in the nurturing of God's Love and Light, Compassion and Wisdom? Of course!

Am I ready to change all my perceived pain of the old growth to compassionate love and understanding? I Want to. . . but I'm not sure I know How!

*******************************************
The Prayer
**********
Dear God,
Show each of us the way to transform our perceptions of pain into Your compassionate understanding. Guide us with your Loving Wisdom, and fill our hearts with Love and Compassion for ourselves and all others as we embark on our new personal Spring growth. Amen.

Wishing you each a personally Glorious and exciting Spring Season,

Minister Jill
