Law of the Theater and Sports Arena –

At any event, the people whose seats are furthest from the aisle, always arrive last. They are the ones who will leave their seats several times to go for food, beer, or the toilet and who leave early before the end of the performance or the game is over. The folks in the aisle seats come early, never move once, have long gangly legs or big bellies, and stay to the bitter end of the performance. The aisle people also are very surly folk.

Welcome by: Pastor Daniel

Greetings my Beloved Sisters and Brothers, and welcome once again to the Church that is Within. You are the Temple. You are the Congregation. Any and All Truth is the Gospel. The Divine Spirit within you is your True Minister.

It is Essential to birds… to fish… indeed to all creatures… for their very Survival depends upon it…

The topic of today's Sunday Service, #802, is Awareness…

*******************************************
The Sermon
***********
Awareness is a Vital part of Life on this beautiful little world of ours. Baby's and little children have an Abundance of Awareness… constantly observing and exploring everything within their reach, within their viewpoint. Everything New, everything Fascinating, everything Exciting! If you aren't Totally Aware, you might Miss something, and kids quite naturally don't want to miss Anything! You remember… don't you?

Why is it that we seem to lose so much of that heightened Awareness that we so enjoyed in our youth as we get older? Oh, we have it at times of course… sometimes a Lot and other times… not so much. It seems to be quite difficult to maintain that constant vigil of Awareness we once had and yet… perhaps it is just that we shift whereupon it is that we focus our Awareness.

Teens can seem, to adults, to have little Awareness of what is Important… and yet as a teen I seem to remember thinking that it was the adults who had little Awareness of what was Really Important. Go Figure That! Perhaps it is that teens are more Aware of Opportunity and adults are more Aware of potential Consequences. Men and women too have somewhat different concepts of what Awareness entails and encompasses… each at select times supposing that the other perhaps has No Awareness Whatsoever of what is truly Most Important. <GRIN>

God and his Spirit Ministers must get a real Kick out of watching us try to figure all of this out… don't you think?

Awareness promotes Personal Growth and higher levels of Maturity. Wisdom helps us to make better choices about where to focus our Awareness… if we allow it to.

It is no great feat of accomplishment to be Aware of how we are all different from one another. The Great Awareness comes rather from personally discovering how in fact we are all Alike.

(From:
Thomas Szasz)
Every act of conscious learning requires the willingness to suffer an injury to one's self-esteem. That is why young children, before they are aware of their own self-importance, learn so easily; and why older persons, especially if vain or important, cannot learn at all.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-16 Section-9)
Unselfishness, aside from parental instinct, is not altogether natural; other persons are not naturally loved or socially served. It requires the enlightenment of reason, morality, and the urge of religion, God-knowingness, to generate an unselfish and altruistic social order. Man's own personality awareness, self-consciousness, is also directly dependent on this very fact of innate other-awareness, this innate ability to recognize and grasp the reality of other personality, ranging from the human to the divine.

(From: Donella Meadows, The Global Citizen)
Your paradigm is so intrinsic to your mental process that you are hardly aware of its existence, until you try to communicate with someone with a different paradigm.

(From: Viktor Frankl, Man's Search For Meaning)
Love is the only way to grasp another human being in the innermost core of his personality. No one can become fully aware of the very essence of another human being unless he loves him.

(From: Eric Hoffer (1902 - 1983)
At the core of every true talent there is an awareness of the difficulties inherent in any achievement, and the confidence that by persistence and patience something worthwhile will be realized.

(From: James Thurber (1894 - 1961)
Let us not look back in anger, nor forward in fear, but around in awareness.

(From: Aristotle)
“The ultimate value of life depends upon awareness and the power of contemplation rather than upon mere survival.”

(From: Thich Nhat Hanh)
If we are aware of our life… our way of looking at things, we will know how to make peace right in the moment, we are alive.

(From:
Albert Einstein (1879 - 1955)

All of us who are concerned for peace and triumph of reason and justice must be keenly aware how small an influence reason and honest good will exert upon events in the political field.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-103 Section-6)
Religion has to do with the spiritual viewpoint, the awareness of the insideness of human experience. Man's spiritual nature affords him the opportunity of turning the universe outside in. It is therefore true that, viewed exclusively from the insideness of personality experience, all creation appears to be spiritual in nature.

(From: Peace Pilgrim)
“Praying without ceasing is not ritualized, nor are there even words. It is a constant state of awareness of oneness with God.”

(From: Lao Tzu)
“The key to growth is the introduction of higher dimensions of consciousness into our awareness.”

(From: Bhagavad Gita)
“On this path effort never goes to waste, and there is no failure. Even a little effort toward spiritual awareness will protect you from the greatest fear.”

(From: John W.N. Sullivan)
...it is certain that the real function of art is to increase our self-consciousness; to make us more aware of what we are, and therefore of what the universe in which we live really is.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-103 Section-7)
What both developing science and religion need is more searching and fearless self-criticism, a greater awareness of incompleteness in evolutionary status. The teachers of both science and religion are often altogether too self-confident and dogmatic.

(From: Richard Whatley)
He who is not aware of his ignorance will only be misled by his knowledge.

(From: Jacobi)
It is never too late with us, so long as we are aware of our faults and bear them impatiently.

(From: Eric Hoffer)
“To become different from what we are, we must have some awareness of what we are”

(From: Thomas Brackett Reed)
It is a very lonely life that a man leads, who becomes aware of truths before their times.

(From: Albert Einstein)
“I am satisfied with the mystery of the eternity of life and with the awareness and a glimpse of the marvelous structure of the existing world, together with the devoted striving to comprehend a portion, be it ever so tiny, of the Reason that manifest”

(From: Sidney Madwed)
To be healthy, wealthy, happy and successful in any and all areas of your life you need to be aware that you need to think healthy, wealthy, happy and successful thoughts twenty four hours a day and cancel all negative, destructive, fearful and unhappy thoughts. These two types of thought cannot coexist if you want to share in the abundance that surrounds us all.

(From: M. Scott Peck)
“The great awareness comes slowly, piece by piece. The path of spiritual growth is a path of lifelong learning. The experience of spiritual power is basically a joyful one.”

Moderation in all things… especially in moderation.

Balanced… Moderation… Centered… Now… Fulcrum…

The topic of today's Sunday Service, #803, is… Undetermined at this point…

*******************************************
The Sermon
***********
When there is Perfect Balance, there is no need for Balance.
It is on either side of the Center that the value of Balance can be discerned and appreciated. The closer one gets to either extreme, the Greater the Value of and Need for Balance.

In Perfect Moderation, there is no need for Moderation. It is from the clutches of abstinence and overindulgence that moderation reveals it's inherent Worth.

Now gives Importance to the experience of the Past and to the allure of the Future

Life's Lessons are learned on either side of Center rather than At the Center. The more difficult and important the lesson, the closer to either extreme it will be found.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-143 Section-7)
Worship--contemplation of the spiritual--must alternate with service, contact with material reality. Work should alternate with play; religion should be balanced by humor. Profound philosophy should be relieved by rhythmic poetry. The strain of living--the time tension of personality--should be relaxed by the restfulness of worship. The feelings of insecurity arising from the fear of personality isolation in the universe should be antidoted by the faith contemplation of the Father and by the attempted realization of the Supreme.

(From: Morrie Swartz, Tuesdays with Morrie)
Don't hold on too long, but don't let go to soon. Find a balance.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-48 Section-7)
Action achieves strength; moderation eventuates in charm.

(From: Charles Caleb Colton (1780-1832)
“Moderation is the inseparable companion of wisdom, but with it genius has not even a nodding acquaintance”

(From: Thomas Paine (1737-1809)
“Moderation in temper is always a virtue; but moderation in principle is always a vice”

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-156 Section-5)
As you grow older in years and more experienced in the affairs of the kingdom, are you becoming more tactful in dealing with troublesome mortals and more tolerant in living with stubborn associates? Tact is the fulcrum of social leverage, and tolerance is the earmark of a great soul. If you possess these rare and charming gifts, as the days pass you will become more alert and expert in your worthy efforts to avoid all unnecessary social misunderstandings. Such wise souls are able to avoid much of the trouble which is certain to be the portion of all who suffer from lack of emotional adjustment, those who refuse to grow up, and those who refuse to grow old gracefully.

(From: The Tao Te Ching - #53)
The great Way is easy,
yet people prefer the side paths.
Be aware when things are out of balance.
Stay centered within the Tao.

(From: The Book of Runes - #6 - reversed)
You may feel overwhelmed with exhaustion from meeting obstruction upon obstruction in your passage. Yet you always have a choice: you can see all this apparent negativity as “bad luck” or you can recognize it as an obstacle course, a challenge specific to the initiation you are presently undergoing. Then each setback, each humiliation, becomes a test of character. When your inner being is shifting and reforming on a deep level, patience, constancy and perseverance are called for. So stay centered, see the humor, and keep on keeping on.

(From: Rodney Yee)
As we look deeply within, we understand our perfect balance. There is no fear of the cycle of birth, life and death. For when you stand in the present moment, you are timeless.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-2 Section-4)
“Our God is full of compassion, gracious, long-suffering, and plenteous in mercy.” Therefore “whosoever calls upon the Lord shall be saved,” “for he will abundantly pardon.” “The mercy of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting”; yes, “his mercy endures forever.” “I am the Lord who executes loving-kindness, judgment, and righteousness in the earth, for in these things I delight.” “I do not afflict willingly nor grieve the children of men,” for I am “the Father of mercies and the God of all comfort.”

(From: Dalai Lama)
“As human beings we all want to be happy and free from misery… we have learned that the key to happiness is inner peace. The greatest obstacles to inner peace are disturbing emotions such as anger, attachment, fear and suspicion, while love and compassion and a sense of universal responsibility are the sources of peace and happiness.”

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-180 Section-5)
The old religion was motivated by fear-consciousness; the new gospel of the kingdom is dominated by truth-conviction, the spirit of eternal and universal truth. And no amount of piety or creedal loyalty can compensate for the absence in the life experience of kingdom believers of that spontaneous, generous, and sincere friendliness which characterizes the spirit-born sons of the living God. Neither tradition nor a ceremonial system of formal worship can atone for the lack of genuine compassion for one's fellows.

(From: U Thant)
Wars begin in the minds of man, and in those minds, love and compassion would have built the defenses of peace.

(From: Henry Ward Beecher)
“Compassion will cure more sins than condemnation.”

(From: Arthur Schopenhauer (1788 - 1860)
Compassion is the basis of all morality.

(From: Albert Einstein)
“Our task must be to free ourselves...by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature and its beauty.”

(From: Dalai Lama)
“Compassion is not religious business, it is human business, it is not luxury, it is essential for our own peace and mental stability, it is essential for human survival.”

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-2 Section-6)
“The Lord is gracious and full of compassion. He is the God of salvation.” “He heals the brokenhearted and binds up the wounds of the soul. He is man's all-powerful benefactor.”

(From:
Sharon Salzberg)

Any ordinary favor we do for someone or any compassionate reaching out may seem to be going nowhere at first, but may be planting a seed we can't see right now. Sometimes we need to just do the best we can and then trust in an unfolding we can't design or ordain.

(From: Leo Rosten (1908 -)
I cannot believe that the purpose of life is (merely) to be happy. I think the purpose of life is to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate. I think it is above all, to matter, to count, to stand for something. To have it make some difference that you lived at all.

(From: George Washington Carver (1864 - 1943)
How far you go in life depends on your being tender with the young, compassionate with the aged, sympathetic with the striving, and tolerant of the weak and the strong -- because someday you will have been all of these.

(From: Anne McCaffrey)
“Make no judgments where you have no compassion”

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-140 Section-8)
The Master came to create in man a new spirit, a new will — to impart a new capacity for knowing the truth, experiencing compassion, and choosing goodness — the will to be in harmony with God's will, coupled with the eternal urge to become perfect, even as the Father in heaven is perfect.

(From: The RSV Bible - Colossians 3:12-14)
Put on then, as God's chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassion, kindness, lowliness, meekness, and patience, forbearing one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony.

*******************************************
The Sermon
***********
For some, it is so easy to feel Compassion… the downtrodden, the unfortunate, those suffering in pain and in sadness and loss. They have done nothing to deserve their plight but have been subject to ill circumstances or have been taken unfair advantage of… unable or incapable of altering their plight. For these, Compassion comes without effort… without lengthy internal debate.

Compassion for others comes slightly less readily as their situation seems more comfortable, more secure, less vulnerable… does it not? They appear more capable of altering or improving their own predicaments and so Compassion tends to flow from us less freely… less automatically. (Who feels Compassion for “Us” when “We” are struggling… well, besides God of course.) And yet they, and we, are no less in need or deserving of Compassion than the chronically less fortunate. The everyday struggles of life come not without their own pain or suffering. The Compassion we crave, should we not also give? …even unto ourselves?

It seems impossible to have Compassion for some… the angry, the abusive, the mean or the prejudiced, the greedy or the selfish… those who take advantage of or profit off of the weak and the powerless. It is easy to say that such as these deserve no Compassion… that they are entirely mindful of the evilness of their ways and should suffer at least as much as they cause others to suffer. And yet… are such as these not even more critically deficient of the saving grace of Compassion than the others? We know not the circumstances nor the causes of their cruelty. Are they the captors or the captives? Do they embrace the evil or are they its slaves? Jesus said, “Judge not lest you be judged.” Perhaps that is something which deserves further contemplation, do you not agree? God has Compassion for All… even them. Should we not try to as well?

*******************************************

The Love and Compassion that You have for your children, even the worst of them, is without limits. Help us the better to recognize it, to feel it and to share it.

No one goes very far without it…

The topic of today's Sunday Service, #805, is Guidance…

*******************************************
The Sermon
***********
Guidance

There are many sources of Guidance available in this mortal life of ours. Parents, family teachers, coaches, friends, mentors, clergy… these are but the most obvious examples. Guidance is a gift from one who cares, a sharing of experience. Guidance is never a mandate, rather it is an offering… not a demand, not even a suggestion, but more a proposal or proposition. “I tried this in a similar situation and it seemed to work for me.” “What do you think might happen if you tried that?” “Have you ever tried looking at it this way?” Some of the most effective Guidance we receive in life comes not from being told how to do something but by being shown how… and often we don't even realize that we have received it or from where it came.

Guidance doesn't do something for us… it helps us to do it for ourselves. All in this life are recipients of varying levels of Guidance, and all are potential sources of Guidance as well.

The Greatest and most dependable Source of Guidance is God… and one need go no further than within to seek it. Yet, how often do we do so? Is God the first person you would think to ask for Guidance or the last? There is no prayer more certain of answer than the prayer for Guidance. Do you communicate that prayer as often as you could… as often as you should?

(From: The Tao Te Ching - #51)
The Tao gives birth to all beings,
nourishes them, maintains them,
cares for them, comforts them, protects them,
takes them back to itself,
creating without possessing,
acting without expecting,
guiding without interfering.
That is why love of the Tao
is in the very nature of things.

(From: The RSV Bible - Isaiah 58:11)
And the LORD will guide you continually, and satisfy your desire with good things, and make your bones strong; and you shall be like a watered garden, like a spring of water, whose waters fail not.

(From: “Jesus” - The Urantia Book - Paper-142 Section-6)
“Already does the spirit of the Father in heaven indwell you. If you would be led by this spirit from above, very soon would you begin to see with the eyes of the spirit, and then by the wholehearted choice of spirit guidance would you be born of the spirit since your only purpose in living would be to do the will of your Father who is in heaven. And so finding yourself born of the spirit and happily in the kingdom of God, you would begin to bear in your daily life the abundant fruits of the spirit.”

(From: The RSV Bible - John 16:13)
When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth;

(From: Shakti Gawain)
What I am actually saying is that we need to be willing to let our intuition guide us, and then be willing to follow that guidance directly and fearlessly.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-34 Section-6)
And when such a life of spirit guidance is freely and intelligently accepted, there gradually develops within the human mind a positive consciousness of divine contact and assurance of spirit communion; sooner or later “the Spirit bears witness with your spirit (the Adjuster) that you are a child of God.”

(From: Jane Austen (1775 - 1817), Mansfield Park)
We have all a better guide in ourselves, if we would attend to it, than any other person can be.

(From:
Carl Schurz (1829 - 1906)

Ideals are like stars: you will not succeed in touching them with your hands, but like the seafaring man on the ocean desert of waters, you choose them as your guides, and following them, you reach your destiny.

(From: Cicero (106 BC - 43 BC)
There is no being of any race who, if he finds the proper guide, cannot attain to virtue.

(From: Shakti Gawain)
Every time you don't follow your inner guidance, you feel a loss of energy, loss of power, a sense of spiritual deadness.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-91 Section-6)
No matter how difficult it may be to reconcile the scientific doubtings regarding the efficacy of prayer with the ever-present urge to seek help and guidance from divine sources, never forget that the sincere prayer of faith is a mighty force for the promotion of personal happiness, individual self-control, social harmony, moral progress, and spiritual attainment.

(From: Buddha (563 BC - 483 BC)
Just as treasures are uncovered from the earth, so virtue appears from good deeds, and wisdom appears from a pure and peaceful mind. To walk safely through the maze of human life, one needs the light of wisdom and the guidance of virtue.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-146 Section-3)
While you cannot observe the divine spirit at work in your minds, there is a practical method of discovering the degree to which you have yielded the control of your soul powers to the teaching and guidance of this indwelling spirit of the heavenly Father, and that is the degree of your love for your fellow men. This spirit of the Father partakes of the love of the Father, and as it dominates man, it unfailingly leads in the directions of divine worship and loving regard for one's fellows.

(From: Oprah Winfrey (1954 - ), Stanford Commencement Adress, 2008)
Feelings are really your GPS system for life. When your supposed to do something, or not supposed to do something, your emotional guidance system lets you know.

(From: Paulo Coelho, Manual of the Warrior of Light)
A warrior of light knows that he will hear an order in the silence of his heart that will guide him.

(From: The Land Before Time)
Let your heart guide you. It whispers, so listen closely.
