I know God will not give me anything I can't handle. I just wish that He didn't trust me so much.
Mother Teresa (1910 - 1997)

Welcome by: Pastor Daniel
************************
Greetings my Beloved Sisters and Brothers, and welcome once again to the Church that is Within. You are the Temple. You are the Congregation. Any and All Truth is the Gospel. The Divine Spirit within you is your True Minister.

We all want to have it, we all want to do it...

The topic of today's Sunday Service, #906, is Trust (the verb)…

*******************************************
The Sermon
***********
For many, it is not easy to Trust. Often it is not their own fault, but rather the circumstances of life that has made Trust difficult for them.

Perhaps they Trusted and were disappointed, let down or even felt betrayed. If it happens over and over and over again, it could make a person hesitant to Trust, couldn't it? Then again, maybe they trusted in the wrong things or Trusted in the wrong way. Can there be a wrong way to Trust?

I have spoken with people who do not Trust God because he did not answer their prayers the way they wanted him to when they Trusted that he Would. I would say that Trusting with inflexible expectations is a wrong way to Trust in God... or anyone Else for that matter. Trusting that you will get your way regardless of how it may affect others? ...not exactly the right way to Trust either. Trusting in another's ability to remember something you want them to? ...So not a reliable indicator of the person's actual Trustworthiness.

Have you ever felt that you lost a person's Trust for erroneous or invalid reasons? Misunderstanding is frequently the culprit in those instances... or an incomplete possession of the facts of the situation. It hurts none the less though, correct? That's not a good feeling, Is it? It's even worse when they unthinkingly tell you that they can't Trust you any more... or that now you have to somehow try to “earn” it back Is it possible that you ever stopped Trusting someone for similar reasons? You'd never do that, right? Well, not on Purpose anyway... but what IF? That would be Terrible, wouldn't it?

Do you think that God Trusts You? There is no one more Trusting that God you know. God Trusts you because he Truly knows what is in your Heart and Soul. God knows that you are a Spiritual child and will make immature mistakes, but it does not cause him to lose any Trust in you. Would that we were so Trusting as is God.

How well do you Trust God? Do you Trust that God Loves and Cares for you? Do you Trust that God knows what is best for you?

There is nothing so personally uplifting as total childlike Trust in our Heavenly Parent...

(From: Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803 - 1882 )
The glory of friendship is not the outstretched hand, nor the kindly smile, nor the joy of companionship; it is the spiritual inspiration that comes to one when he discovers that someone else believes in him and is willing to trust him.

(From: H. L. Mencken (1880 - 1956 )
For it is mutual trust, even more than mutual interest that holds human associations together.

(From: Shakti Gawain )
When I'm trusting and being myself... everything in my life reflects this by falling into place easily, often miraculously.

(From: Johann Wolfgang von Goethe (1749 - 1832), Faust )
As soon as you trust yourself, you will know how to live.

(From: Robert Jordan, The Wheel of Time )
A man without trust is a man without life.

(From: Henry L. Stimson (1867 - 1950 )
The chief lesson I have learned in a long life is that the only way to make a man trustworthy is to trust him; and the surest way to make him untrustworthy is to distrust him and show your distrust.

(From: Frank Crane )
You may be deceived if you trust too much, but you will live in torment if you do not trust enough.

(From: Tyron Edwards )
Anxiety is the rust of life, destroying its brightness and weakening its power. A childlike and abiding trust in Providence is its best preventive and remedy.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-111 Section-5)
Mortals live in God, and so God has willed to live in mortals. As men trust themselves to him, so has he--and first--trusted a part of himself to be with men; has consented to live in men and to indwell men subject to the human will.

(From: Shirley MacLaine (1934 - )
I could be whatever I wanted to be if I trusted that music, that song, that vibration of God that was inside of ME.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-101 Section-0)
There really is a true and genuine inner voice, that "true light which lights every man who comes into the world." And this spirit leading is distinct from the ethical prompting of human conscience. The feeling of religious assurance is more than an emotional feeling. The assurance of religion transcends the reason of the mind, even the logic of philosophy. Religion is faith, trust, and assurance.

(From: Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803 - 1882 )
All I have seen teaches me to trust the Creator for all I have not seen.

(From: The Tao Te Ching - #12 )
The Master observes the world
but trusts his inner vision.
He allows things to come and go.
His heart is open as the sky.

(From: Oprah Winfrey )
I trust that everything happens for a reason, even when we're not wise enough to see it.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-2 Section-6)
In the physical universe we may see the divine beauty, in the intellectual world we may discern eternal truth, but the goodness of God is found only in the spiritual world of personal religious experience. In its true essence, religion is a faith-trust in the goodness of God. God could be great and absolute, somehow even intelligent and personal, in philosophy, but in religion God must also be moral; he must be good. Man might fear a great God, but he trusts and loves only a good God. This goodness of God is a part of the personality of God, and its full revelation appears only in the personal religious experience of the believing sons of God.

(From: The ASB Bible - Psalm 28:7)
The LORD is my strength and my shield; My heart trusts in Him, and I am helped; Therefore my heart exults, And with my song I shall thank Him.

(From: The Book of Runes -#22 - Breakthrough / Transformation / Day )
In each life there comes at least one moment which, if recognized and seized, transforms the course of that life forever. Rely, therefore, on radical trust, even though the moment may call for you to leap, empty-handed into the void.

Quotes
*******
(From: “Jesus” - The Urantia Book - Paper-130 Section-6)
“Set your mind at work to solve its problems; teach your intellect to work for you; refuse longer to be dominated by fear like an unthinking animal. Your mind should be your courageous ally in the solution of your life problems rather than your being, as you have been, its abject fear-slave and the bond-servant of depression and defeat. But most valuable of all, your potential of real achievement is the spirit which lives within you, and which will stimulate and inspire your mind to control itself and activate the body if you will release it from the fetters of fear and thus enable your spiritual nature to begin your deliverance from the evils of inaction by the power-presence of living faith. And then, forthwith, will this faith vanquish fear of men by the compelling presence of that new and all-dominating love of your fellows which will so soon fill your soul to overflowing because of the consciousness which has been born in your heart that you are a child of God.”

(From: The Tao Te Ching - # 46)
There is no greater illusion than fear,
no greater wrong than preparing to defend yourself,
no greater misfortune than having an enemy.

Whoever can see through all fear
will always be safe.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-131 Section-4)
He never fears who knows the blissful security of the Supreme, for the Supreme says to those who serve him, `Fear not, for I am with you.' The God of providence is our Father. God is truth. And it is the desire of God that his creatures should understand him--come fully to know the truth. Truth is eternal; it sustains the universe. Our supreme desire shall be union with the Supreme.

(From: The ASB Bible - Psalm 23)
THE LORD is my shepherd, I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside quiet waters. He restores my soul; He guides me in the paths of righteousness For His name's sake. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I fear no evil, for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You have anointed my head with oil; My cup overflows. Surely goodness and loving kindness will follow me all the days of my life, And I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-131 Section-9)
God is with us; therefore we have no fear in our hearts. If there be found any virtue in me, it is the manifestation of Heaven who abides with me.

(From: Marie Curie (1867 - 1934)
Nothing in life is to be feared, it is only to be understood. Now is the time to understand more, so that we may fear less.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-17 Section-3)
You are all God's children; you are the sons of the heavenly Father. The bonds of time may seem to afflict you, but the God of eternity loves you. And when the time of judgment shall come, fear not, you shall all find, not only justice, but an abundance of mercy. Verily, verily, I say to you: He who hears the gospel of the kingdom and believes in this teaching of sonship with God, has eternal life;

(From: Ali Vincent )
When you have the courage to tell the truth about what you're really afraid of, fear doesn't have control over your life.

(From: “Jesus” - The Urantia Book - Paper-157 Section-2)
Even now you should begin to find deliverance from the bondage of fear and doubt as you enter upon the living of the new life of faith and hope. And when the feelings of service for your fellow men arise within your soul, do not stifle them; when the emotions of love for your neighbor well up within your heart, give expression to such urges of affection in intelligent ministry to the real needs of your fellows.

(From: Eleanor Roosevelt (1884 - 1962 )
You gain strength, courage and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You are able to say to yourself, 'I have lived through this horror. I can take the next thing that comes along.' You must do the thing you think you cannot do.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-34 Section-6)
And throughout every trial and in the presence of every hardship, spirit-born souls are sustained by that hope which transcends all fear because the love of God is shed abroad in all hearts by the presence of the divine Spirit.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-48 Section-7)
Few persons live up to the faith which they really have. Unreasoned fear is a master intellectual fraud practiced upon the evolving mortal soul.

(From: Bertrand Russell (1872 - 1970 )
Fear is the main source of superstition, and one of the main sources of cruelty. To conquer fear is the beginning of wisdom.

(From: Sophocles (496 BC - 406 BC)
To him who is in fear everything rustles.

(From: Frank Herbert (1920 - 1986), "Dune")
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-34 Section-7)
Having started out on the way of life everlasting, having accepted the assignment and received your orders to advance, do not fear the dangers of human forgetfulness and mortal inconstancy, do not be troubled with doubts of failure or by perplexing confusion, do not falter and question your status and standing, for in every dark hour, at every crossroad in the forward struggle, the Spirit of Truth will always speak, saying, “This is the way.”

(From: The ASB Bible - John 14:27)
"Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your heart be troubled, nor let it be fearful.

The Sermon
***********
Fear is the problem...
Fear is the obstruction...
Fear is the enemy...
Fear is the destroyer...

Fear is the opposite of Bravery, not cowardice.
Fear is the opposite of Trust, not suspicion and doubt.
The opposite of Faith, is not disbelief... it is Fear.
The opposite of Love, is not hatred... it is Fear.

Fear is the fraud...
Fear is the deception...
Fear is the trap...
Fear is the prison...

To accept Fear is a choice.
Choose rather, the opposite of Fear.
Choose Trust...
Choose Faith...
Choose Love.

God is Love.
Choose God!

(From: The Book of Runes -#3 - signals / messenger rune (Ansuz)

Ansuz is the first of the 13 Runes that make up the Cycle of Initiation---Runes that focus directly upon the mechanism of self-change---and as such, addresses your need to integrate unconscious motive with conscious intent. Drawing it tells you that connection with the Divine is at hand. For Ansuz is a signal to explore the depths, the foundations of life, and to experience the inexhaustible wellspring of the Divine in your nature.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-131 Section-4)
He who is full of faith worships truly when his inner self is intent upon God.

(From: Sharon Salzberg )
If we fall, we don't need self-recrimination or blame or anger - we need a reawakening of our intention and a willingness to recommit, to be whole-hearted once again.

(From: Thomas Troward )
Our repeated failure to fully act as we would wish must not discourage us. It is the sincere intention that is the essential thing, and this will in time release us from the bondage of habits which at present seem almost insuperable.

(From: The RSV Bible - Hebrews 4:12-13)
For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and spirit, of joints and marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart. And before him no creature is hidden, but all are open and laid bare to the eyes of him with whom we have to do.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-103 Section-4)
God the Father deals with man his child on the basis, not of actual virtue or worthiness, but in recognition of the child's motivation--the creature purpose and intent. The relationship is one of parent-child association and is actuated by divine love.

(From: Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803 - 1882)
A good intention but fixed and resolute - bent on high and holy ends, we shall find means to them on every side and at every moment; and even obstacles and opposition will but make us "like the fabled specter-ships," which sail the fastest in the very teeth of the wind.

(From: “Jesus” - The Urantia Book - Paper-140 Section-3)
In gaining an entrance into the kingdom of heaven, it is the motive that counts. My Father looks into the hearts of men and judges by their inner longings and their sincere intentions.

(From: Seneca (5 BC - 65 AD)
The spirit in which a thing is given determines that in which the debt is acknowledged; it's the intention, not the face-value of the gift, that's weighed.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-112 Section-5)
The sovereign Judges of the universes will not deprive any being of personality status who has not finally and fully made the eternal choice; the soul of man must and will be given full and ample opportunity to reveal its true intent and real purpose.

in·tent (in-tent')
n.
1. Something that is intended; an aim or purpose.
2. Law The state of one's mind at the time one carries out an action.
3. Meaning; purport.
adj.
1. Firmly fixed; concentrated: an intent gaze.
2. Having the attention applied; engrossed.
3. Having the mind and will focused on a specific purpose.

What is your True Intent?
Are you Intent upon it?
How Intent Are you?

Is your Intention always toward Goodness and Love?
Almost all Intentions start out that way at first.
Both Goodness and Love Are Intentional of course... Love always,
Goodness mostly.

Things don't always turn out as Intended though, Do they? Life's circumstances Often alter outcomes regardless of what was initially Intended. We don't Intend for our Intentions to change when that happens, but once in a while they do, Don't they... despite our Soul's true Intent? Ego often reacts detrimentally in spite the Soul's best Intentions. It takes focused Intent to overcome ego's usually un-Intended reflexive lapse into negativity.

Thankfully God knows and judges us on our Soul's True Inner Intent rather than on the material results of our well Intentioned human efforts!

Isn't it? ;-)

(From: The Book of Runes -#25 The Blank Rune )

Relinquishing control is the ultimate challenge for the Spiritual Warrior.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-48 Section-7)
Difficulties may challenge mediocrity and defeat the fearful, but they only stimulate the true children of the Most Highs.

(From: James E. Faust )
Everybody in this life has their challenges and difficulties. That is part of our mortal test.

(From: Mary Tyler Moore )
Overcoming the challenges make life worth living.

(From: Barack Obama )
We too often let the material things serve as indicators that we're doing well, even though something inside us tells us that were not doing our best. That we are avoiding that which is hard, but also necessary. That we are shrinking from rather than rising to the challenges of the age.

(From: The Dalai Lama )
I believe that to meet the challenge of the next century, human beings will have to develop a greater sense of universal responsibility. Each of us must learn to work not just for his or her own self, family or nation, but for the benefit of all mankind.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-2 Section-7)
The religious challenge of this age is to those farseeing and forward-looking men and women of spiritual insight who will dare to construct a new and appealing philosophy of living out of the enlarged and exquisitely integrated modern concepts of cosmic truth, universe beauty, and divine goodness. Such a new and righteous vision of morality will attract all that is good in the mind of man and challenge that which is best in the human soul.

(From: Robert Rodriguez)
Only by seeking challenges can we hope to find the best in ourselves.

(From: Meladee McCarty )
Live your life as though there is great joy to be experienced... an abundance of goodness in each person you come in contact with, and the knowledge that you have enough inner wisdom to answer the mysteries that challenge you.

(From: Oprah Winfrey )
Challenges are gifts that force us to search for a new center of gravity. Don't fight them. Just find a different way to stand.

(From: Martin Luther King Jr. (1929 - 1968), Strength to Love, 1963 )
The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.

(From: The Book of Runes - #6 Perth - Reversed)
You may feel overwhelmed with exhaustion from meeting obstruction upon obstruction in your passage. Yet you always have a choice: you can see all this apparent negativity as “bad luck” or you can recognize it as an obstacle course, a challenge specific to the initiation you are presently undergoing. Then each setback, each humiliation, becomes a test of character. When your inner being is shifting and reforming on a deep level, patience, constancy and perseverance are called for. So stay centered, see the humor, and keep on keeping on.

(From: “Jesus” - The Urantia Book - Paper-130 Section-6)
“And when you become so readjusted to life within yourself, you become likewise readjusted to the universe; you have been born again--born of the spirit--and henceforth will your whole life become one of victorious accomplishment. Trouble will invigorate you; disappointment will spur you on; difficulties will challenge you; and obstacles will stimulate you.”

(From: Grace Speare )
Welcome every problem as an opportunity. Each moment is the great challenge, the best thing that ever happened to you . The more difficult the problem, the greater the challenge in working it out.

(From: Joshua J. Marine )
Challenges are what makes life interesting; overcoming them is what makes life meaningful.

(From: Og Mandino (1923 - 1996 )
Never again clutter your days or nights with so many menial and unimportant things that you have no time to accept a real challenge when it comes along. This applies to play as well as work. A day merely survived is no cause for celebration. You are not here to fritter away your precious hours when you have the ability to accomplish so much by making a slight change in your routine.

*******************************************
The Sermon
***********
Challenges are a vital part of life. We have the ability... perhaps even the duty to find the majority of our own Challenges. If we refuse or neglect to, we can be completely certain that Challenges will inevitably find us... and seldom will they come at a convenient time, or be the ones we might have a preference for. True, certain of life's Challenges are essential and though we might not eagerly choose them, it's not possible to completely avoid them. Trying to do so creates needless hardships that get progressively more Challenging the longer we try to avoid the inescapable. It would be much simpler for us if we would remember that the more difficult the Challenge, the greater it's potential reward.

When your Challenges are repeated, you either missed an important aspect the last time or, have since learned something new that will help you get increased, enhanced or superior benefits from the Challenge.

We can either fear Challenges, or we can Enjoy them, so why would we so often choose not to have fun with them That's something to think about is it not?

OK then...

The other day my neighbor came running up to me in the driveway just jumping for joy! She said, “I have some really great news!"
I said, "Great. Tell me."
She told me that she was pregnant!
I told her, "That's great! I couldn't be happier for you!"
Then she said, "There's more."
I asked, "What do you mean 'more'?"
She said, "Well, we are not having just one baby. We are going to have twins.
Amazed at how she could know so soon after getting pregnant, I asked her how she knew.
She said...“That was the easy part. I went to Wal-Mart and they actually had a home pregnancy kit in a twin-pack. Both tests came out positive!”

(From: Albert Einstein (1879 - 1955 )
It is the supreme art of the teacher to awaken joy in creative expression and knowledge.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-100 Section-2)
Spiritual growth is first an awakening to needs, next a discernment of meanings, and then a discovery of values. The evidence of true spiritual development consists in the exhibition of a human personality motivated by love, activated by unselfish ministry, and dominated by the wholehearted worship of the perfection ideals of divinity. And this entire experience constitutes the reality of religion as contrasted with mere theological beliefs.

(From: Anatole France (1844 - 1924 )
The whole art of teaching is only the art of awakening the natural curiosity of young minds for the purpose of satisfying it afterwards.

(From: Gail Sheehy )
If every day is an awakening, you will never grow old. You will just keep growing.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-188 Section-5)
Jesus is truly a savior in the sense that his life and death do win men over to goodness and righteous survival. Jesus loves men so much that his love awakens the response of love in the human heart. Love is truly contagious and eternally creative.

(From: Albert Camus (1913 - 1960 )
When you have once seen the glow of happiness on the face of a beloved person, you know that a man can have no vocation but to awaken that light on the faces surrounding him.

(From: The ASB Bible - Romans 13:10-12)
Love does no wrong to a neighbor; therefore love is the fulfillment of the law. Do this, knowing the time, that it is already the hour for you to awaken from sleep; for now salvation is nearer to us than when we believed. The night is almost gone, and the day is near. Therefore let us lay aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light.

(From: Sharon Salzberg, O Magazine )
If we fall, we don't need self-recrimination or blame or anger - we need a reawakening of our intention and a willingness to recommit, to be whole-hearted once again.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-90 Section-0)
Religion eventually achieves the profoundly simple realization of an all-powerful love, the love which sweeps irresistibly through the human soul when awakened to the conception of the limitless affection of the Universal Father for the sons of the universe.
