A senior citizen in Florida bought a brand new Mercedes convertible. He took off down the road, flooring it to 80 mph and enjoying the wind blowing through what little hair he had left on his head.

"This is great," he thought as he roared down I-75. He pushed the pedal to the metal even more. Then he looked in his rear view mirror and saw a highway patrol trooper behind him, blue lights flashing and siren blaring. "I can get away from him with no problem" thought the man and he tromped it some more and flew down the road at over 100 mph. Then110,

120 mph! Then he thought, "What am I doing? I'm too old for this kind of thing." He pulled over to the side of the road and waited for the trooper to catch up with him.

The trooper pulled in behind the Mercedes and walked up to the man. "Sir," he said, looking at his watch. "My shift ends in 30 minutes and today is Friday. If you can give me a reason why you were speeding that I've never heard before, I'll let you go."

The man looked at the trooper and said, "Years ago my wife ran off with a Florida state trooper, and I thought you were bringing her back." The trooper replied, "Sir, have a nice day."

The topic of today's Sunday Service, #96, is Making Choices…

*******************************************
The Sermon
***********
How much do you really think about your choices… about the choices that you make?

It is time to make a Choice.

What do you do?

What is your procedure that you follow in your choice making processes?

Do you consider your choices carefully when making them?

Do you make choices based on past experiences and upon future hopes?

Do you make them on a whim?

Some make choices by “feel.” Somehow it seems they can Feel which is the better choice to make in a given situation. What is it, do you think, that they feel?

Some would ask that God make their choices For them. While asking for God's input in the choice making process is Key to purposeful spiritual growth, choices must be made by the individual. God has such respect for the individual's free will, that He allows His children to make all of their choices on their own. God will however, Always give guidance in the making of choices should you ask.

There are times when one may ask their Infinite Father for the guidance in the making of a choice/decision, when His answer seems so clear and straight forward, and yet you make the choice and circumstances do not proceed in the way you expected, or maybe hoped they would. Perhaps you may even begin to feel that you made the “Wrong” choice. And yet in sincerity and in the spirit of seeking God's better way, you made this choice which seems to be working out badly from a human “material” perspective. When this happens, if you have not already done so, look for the gift in the problem.

When sincerity leads you along a path, you may be assured that somewhere along that path (not necessarily at the end or near the apparent end of it), you will find a gift from God that is Precious to your personal Spiritual Growth and wellbeing. The gift may be a lesson learned, another pathway opening up, an opportunity for relationship and the sharing of love. The Gift may be knowledge, or it may be a piece of Life's Puzzle that will fit into the picture in times ahead as you acquire and place other pieces into the pattern.

When assessing the results of choices that you have made, there are different ways to evaluate the results. From the human ego standpoint, the tendency will be to look for material gain as the evidence of “correct” choices. When appraised by the Soul, the person is seeking evidence of personal growth, maturity and wisdom… for greater understanding… for enhanced opportunities to Love and to be Loved.

How do You appraise the success of your personal Choices?

Quotes
*******
(From: Dr. Elizabeth Kubler-Ross)
If we could raise one generation with unconditional love, there would be no Hitlers. We need to teach the next generation of children from Day One that they are responsible for their lives. Mankind's greatest gift, also its greatest curse, is that we have free choice. We can make our choices built from love or from fear.

(From: J. K. Rowling, Harry Potter and The Chamber of Secrets, 1999)
It is our choices...that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities.

(From: Elyon - 11/9/97 The North Idaho TeaM)
You must continually make choices in this life, and you must choose based upon the highest ideal you are aware of. If you continually seek guidance from the Father your ideals will be elevated, your principles will be raised, your expectations will be enhanced. But choosing to act upon your highest thought of how to conduct yourselves in a given situation is the gift you give to the Father. Your making your every choice based on the highest ideal you are familiar with is the truest gift you can return to the Father; to act in wisdom, to act in peace, with harmony.

(From: John Dewey (1859 - 1952)
The self is not something ready-made, but something in continuous formation through choice of action.

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-196 Section-3)
Every time man makes a reflective moral choice, he immediately experiences a new divine invasion of his soul. Moral choosing constitutes religion as the motive of inner response to outer conditions. But such a real religion is not a purely subjective experience. It signifies the whole of the subjectivity of the individual engaged in a meaningful and intelligent response to total objectivity--the universe and its Maker.

(From: George Eliot (1819 - 1880)
The strongest principle of growth lies in human choice.

(From: Solonia - 2/28/04 The Garden TeaM)
Every time you have an opportunity to make a decision, to make a choice, ask your Father to reveal His Will to you in the matter. It need not be about large and grandiose matters-and yet, for these also, should you do this-but for the little ones, for the every day choices, "What is your Will for me, Father? Which of these choices would best serve your Will?" And when you feel you have decided upon the one that would best serve Our Father's Will, then step towards it eagerly, for though you may eventually discover that perhaps it was not Our Father's Will, at least as you are able to discern it, you indeed were provided a great experiential opportunity for learning.

(From: William Jennings Bryan (1860 - 1925)
Destiny is not a matter of chance. It is a matter of choice; it is not a thing to be waited for, it is a thing to be achieved.

(From: Jean Nidetch)
It's choice - not chance - that determines your destiny.

(From: Robert Fritz)
If you limit your choices only to what seems possible or reasonable, you disconnect yourself from what you truly want, and all that is left is a compromise.

A man asked his wife what she'd like for Mother's Day.

"I'd love to be six again, " she replied.

On the morning of Mother's Day, he arose early, got up made her a nice big bowl of Lucky Charms and then took her off to the local theme park.

What a day! He put her on every ride in the park: the Death Slide, the Wall of Fear, the Screaming Monster Roller Coaster, every thing there was. Five hours later she staggered out of the theme park. Her head was reeling and her stomach felt upside down.

Right away, they journeyed to a McDonald's where her loving husband ordered her a Happy Meal with extra fries and a refreshing chocolate shake. Then it was off to a movie, the latest Star Wars epic, a hot dog, popcorn, a soda pop, and her favorite candy, M&M's. What a fabulous adventure!

Finally she wobbled home with her husband and collapsed into bed exhausted.

He leaned over his precious wife with a big smile and lovingly asked, "Well, Dear, what was it like being six again?"

Her eyes slowly opened and her expression suddenly changed. "You idiot, I meant my dress size!"

The moral of the story: Even when a man is listening, he is gonna get it wrong.

( "How am I doing, Mom?" ©
By Bob Perks - Bob@BobPerks.com)

It's been awhile, I know.

It might even appear that I've forgotten. I really haven't. How could I? You are such a part of who I am.

Like breathing.

When I was a child, I always could depend on you to bolster my self image.

"That was nice Bobby."

"You did a great job, Bobby."

"Don't let your friends get to you like that. What do they know?"

Then, whenever I failed to accomplish something, you never saw it as a failure. You never saw me as a failure. You taught me this little poem and at 54 it still helps.

"If you've tried and have not won,
do not stop for crying.
For all that's good is in patience done,
but most of all by trying."

I'm still trying, Mom.

Although you were gone before my sons were born, I saw you in their eyes.

Although you had left us long before some of the biggest challenges in my adult life, I felt more secure in my ability to get through it all.

I called on you to talk to God when we found out that Keith had cancer, too.

It must have been some conversation, Mom. He survived.

I know at this point in his life, a man should be able to stand on his own, but I need you. Perhaps even more than ever.

You see, there is so much more I need to do. So many things I need to make right in this world and I'm not sure I can.

I'd give anything to hear you say, "It's all right Bobby."

I know you'll find a way...so, "How am I doing, Mom?"

I miss you. Happy Mothers Day!

Love, Bobby

Greetings my Beloved Sisters and Brothers, and welcome once again to the Church that is Within.

Though I've been extremely busy at the Light and Life Sanctuary property this Spring, and do not see a potential for the load lightening anytime soon, I still plan on doing a Spring Light and Life Sanctuary Update to share here… hopefully while it's still Spring. There's a Lot to tell.

The topic of today's Sunday Service, #398 is, once again, Goodness…

*******************************************
The Sermon
***********
(An Inner Dialogue:)

“Why am I Here, for goodness sake?”

        “Yes, most certainly!”

“Huh? Most Certainly What?”

“Most Certainly that is why you are here!”

“I'm here for 'Most Certainly'?”

        “No, for Goodness Sake!”

“Then What already?”

        “I just told you.”

“Oh for goodness Sake.”

“Yes! Now you have it! You are Here for Goodness sake.”

“Yes of Course I know I'm here…”

“For Goodness Sake. That is why you are here… now… on this world… and at this time. It is for the Sake of Goodness that you are here.”

“Oh… yeah. Uhhh… how am I doing?”

“How do You think you are doing?”

“Well… I could be doing a lot better I guess…”

        “As could All…”

“Um, You got any suggestions that might help me?”

“Live and Love for Goodness Sake.”

“Live and Love?”

        “Yes. For Goodness sake!”

Quotes
*******
(From: Euripides (484 BC - 406 BC), Temenidae)

When good men die their goodness does not perish,
But lives though they are gone. As for the bad,
All that was theirs dies and is buried with them.

(From: Heloise (1098 - 1164), Letter)
Riches and power are but gifts of blind fate, whereas goodness is the result of one's own merits.

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-132 Section-2)
As you ascend the universe scale of creature development, you will find increasing goodness and diminishing evil in perfect accordance with your capacity for goodness-experience and truth-discernment. The ability to entertain error or experience evil will not be fully lost until the ascending human soul achieves final spirit levels.

(From: The RSV Bible - Galatians 5:22-23)
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control;

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-132 Section-3)
Revealed truth, personally discovered truth, is the supreme delight of the human soul; it is the joint creation of the material mind and the indwelling spirit. The eternal salvation of this truth-discerning and beauty-loving soul is assured by that hunger and thirst for goodness which leads this mortal to develop a singleness of purpose to do the Father's will, to find God and to become like him.

(From: Sue Patton Thoele, The Courage To Be Yourself Journal)
At the center of each human heart is goodness, layered over with hurt, confusion, and mistaken ideas. Our task is to gently peel off layer after layer until the unfettered heart can shed its love upon the world.

(From: Teacher Daniel - 10/18/92 The S.E. Idaho TeaM)
Do not be afraid to think good thoughts about yourself. Do not be afraid to allow
yourself to look at the good in you. When you can see yourself in this higher perspective, you will begin to live and understand in a higher mode as well. You will overcome those things which are weak within you. When you can keep the aspect of goodness in the forefront, when you seek guidance from the Father and the Indwelling Spirit in this regard, then you turn over your being to the Indwelling Spirit to really be able to give you guidance in this regard.

(From: Machiventa - 7/28/02 The North Idaho TeaM)
Whenever you have truth and the beauty that results in the coming together and sharing of individuals, then one must not have to look very far to find goodness is also present. Goodness is discernible by you as those feelings of comfort, of satisfaction, that you experience having participated in the origination of beauty, the sharing of truth. It therefore becomes our challenge to look around us as we traverse through our experience and to draw together wherever you may be these elements to create the environment of goodness through the living of truth, the sharing of truth, the willingness to embrace truth.

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-132 Section-3)
Spiritual evolution is an experience of the increasing and voluntary choice of goodness attended by an equal and progressive diminution of the possibility of evil.

(From: Josephine Hart)
We are here to add to the sum of human goodness. To prove the thing exists. And however futile each individual act of courage or generosity, self-sacrifice or grace-it still proves the thing exists. Each act adds to the fund. It needs replenishment.

Welcome by: Pastor Daniel
************************
Greetings my Beloved Sisters and Brothers, and welcome once again to the Church that is Within.

Today's Sunday Service is a relatively short one, but hopefully it is only the package that is small and not the contents…

The topic of today's Sunday Service, #399, is Compassion…

********************************************
Quotes
*******
(From: As told in Women Who Run With the Wolves by Clarissa Pinkola Estes)

A Native American grandfather was talking to his grandson about how he felt. He said, "I feel as if I have two wolves fighting in my heart. One wolf is the vengeful, angry, violent one. The other wolf is the loving, compassionate one.” The grandson asked him, “Which wolf will win the fight in your heart?” The grandfather answered, “The one I feed.”

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-140 Section-8)
The Master came to create in man a new spirit, a new will--to impart a new capacity for knowing the truth, experiencing compassion, and choosing goodness--the will to be in harmony with God's will, coupled with the eternal urge to become perfect, even as the Father in heaven is perfect.

(From: The RSV Bible - Colossians 3:12-14)
Put on then, as God's chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassion, kindness, lowliness, meekness, and patience, forbearing one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony.

(From: Abraham - 5/7/01 The Woods Cross TeaM)
Compassion is a heart and soul connection that says 'I am feeling what you are feeling. I see you could use some help.' Compassion asks you not to sacrifice begrudgingly, but happens naturally without hesitation. Most of the time most people only wish to be listened to and understood--not pitied or pressured into various solutions, but just to feel that they are not alone.

(From: Sharon Salzberg, O Magazine, The Power of Intention, January 2004)
Any ordinary favor we do for someone or any compassionate reaching out may seem to be going nowhere at first, but may be planting a seed we can't see right now. Sometimes we need to just do the best we can and then trust in an unfolding we can't design or ordain.

Greetings my Beloved Sisters and Brothers, and welcome once again to the Church that is Within.

I can hardly believe that we are already at Sunday Service #400… why… it seems like only last week we were only somewhere in the 300's ;-)… and but a few moments ago that I was rather Astounded when we made it to #100. Such is Life… Ain't it?

The topic of today's Sunday Service, #400, is Forgiveness…

********************************************
Quotes
*******
(From: Josh Billings (1818 - 1885)

There is no revenge so complete as forgiveness.

(From: Mahatma Gandhi (1869 - 1948)
The weak can never forgive. Forgiveness is the attribute of the strong.

(From: Ham – 3/15/01 – the Nashville TeaM)
Forgiveness is something which has layers to it. There's the first layer where you say, "I forgive you", or you try to forgive, make a conscious effort, but you find that this is only the beginning. Acts of forgiveness eventually engulf the entire spirit, the entire soul, and there are many layers of forgiveness within each person. Often when you have trouble forgiving someone, this is not just about that person or that one incident, it's a whole layer within your psyche and there is often a root cause deep in childhood. Sometimes it is something that your parents could not forgive of you, other times it is something that you could not forgive of your parents.

(From: Joan Lunden, in Healthy Living Magazine)
Holding on to anger, resentment and hurt only gives you tense muscles, a headache and a sore jaw from clenching your teeth. Forgiveness gives you back the laughter and the lightness in your life.

(From: Cherie Carter-Scott, "If Love Is a Game, These Are the Rules")
Anger makes you smaller, while forgiveness forces you to grow beyond what you were.

(From: Elyon - 5/2/93 The North Idaho TeaM)
As the obstacles come up for you, look upon them with love and be able to forgive. Make forgiveness a major part of the obstacles everyday. Know that to forgive and to love will bring soul growth and insights and awareness. Keep yourself open, by forgiving and loving rather than shutting yourself down by seeking revenge, or begrudging, or being angry because the obstacle was put before you.

(From: The RSV Bible - Luke 6:37-38)
"Judge not, and you will not be judged; condemn not, and you will not be condemned; forgive, and you will be forgiven; give, and it will be given to you; good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap. For the measure you give will be the measure you get back."

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-170 Section-2)
When you forgive your brother in the flesh, you thereby create the capacity in your own soul for the reception of the reality of God's forgiveness of your own misdeeds.

(From: Monjoronson - 5/27/04 The CCC - www.ctrforchristcon.org)
The time is coming when people must choose how they will respond to the truth-light shining upon the world. When people see the gross distortion and epochs of deception rising out from the shadows, will they respond with anger, judgment, and condemnation of those who have perpetrated this deception? Or will they respond with forgiveness and love and understanding? For the truth-light can only shine in the environment of love.

(From: Peter Ustinov (1921 - 2004)
Love is an act of endless forgiveness, a tender look which becomes a habit.

*******************************************
The Sermon
***********
When I was much younger I always heard the term, “Forgive and Forget.”

Ya know… I'm thinkin'… wouldn't “Forgive and Remember” work better?

“Forgive. And Remember!”
