Welcome by: Pastor Daniel

Greetings my Beloved Sisters and Brothers, and welcome once again to the Church that is Within.

There are many things that each of us crave… but maybe none so much as…

The topic of today's Sunday Service, #498, is Recognition…

*******************************************
The Sermon
***********
Let's talk about the word Recognition today. It has many forms and brings up a variety of thoughts and feelings when it is used.

There is the Recognition where groups of individuals (as small as a family/as large as the world) pay a specific Tribute to Honor a “special person” for the things that they do or for things that they have done.

As a youngster, I remember Dreaming of a time in the future (close or distant) that I would Earn that special privilege. Didn't you? Don't you Still… sort of?

From there, let's consider the type of Recognition that All crave and in fact Need for a healthy emotional balance. And this is the deep desire to be Recognized for our True Intentions and Motives… to be recognized for who we Really are within. This is a Vital form of Recognition that is so lacking in today's world. Do you Get enough? Do you Give enough?

How Often our innocent motives and intentions are misread… misinterpreted… even ignored. Little children are So susceptible to emotional suffering from these type of misperceptions… even as is the “little child” still resident in the adult today. Ego would be far less of a problem in the world if people actually received the Recognition that is truly their due. I think perhaps that very much of the incessant clamoring for attention that is attributed to ego is really just the “little child's” need for Loving Recognition of who they Truly are and who they truly wish to be.

Some how we have been taught as a civilization to expect the worst intentions and motives rather than always the best. It's a Shame really… it would be so easy to recognize the Good in others and within ourselves… if only we could/would see as if through the eyes of the devoted loving parent observing their cherished child. The Majority of peoples motives and intent are Good and Sincere, and the majority of those good intentions go un-Recognized, or worse, Misrecognized as evil or hurtful.

If only we were more able to Recognize that Spark of God within others and also within ourselves, the world would be a more Joyful and Fulfilling place. So much Greater would be our Recognition of Truth, and of Beauty, and of Goodness. So much easier would it be to Love and to accept Love. Perhaps we are more able than we think we are… than we are errantly led to believe that we are. Perhaps through willing conscious effort our Recognition will grow. It's worth a try, anyway. Don't you think?

Namaste!

(From: Reed Markham)

Successful innovators recognize that discovery of great ideas come from looking at the same thing as everyone else and observing something different.

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-160 Section-1)
Successful living is nothing more or less than the art of the mastery of dependable techniques for solving common problems. The first step in the solution of any problem is to locate the difficulty, to isolate the problem, and frankly to recognize its nature and gravity. The great mistake is that, when life problems excite our profound fears, we refuse to recognize them. Likewise, when the acknowledgment of our difficulties entails the reduction of our long-cherished conceit, the admission of envy, or the abandonment of deep-seated prejudices, the average person prefers to cling to the old illusions of safety and to the long-cherished false feelings of security. Only a brave person is willing honestly to admit, and fearlessly to face, what a sincere and logical mind discovers.

(From: Henry Miller (1891 - 1980)
Every moment is a golden one for him who has the vision to recognize it as such.

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-160 Section-2)
Many noble human impulses die because there is no one to hear their expression. Truly, it is not good for man to be alone. Some degree of recognition and a certain amount of appreciation are essential to the development of human character.

(From: George Bernard Shaw (1856 - 1950)
This is the true joy in life -- being used for a purpose recognized by yourself as a mighty one.

(From: Solonia 3/5/2004 – the Garden TeaM)
Being in service to another through the gift of offering comfort may be as simple as, a genuine understanding smile, a look of recognition, of caring, a look of compassion, an acknowledgment of their service or their value.

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-160 Section-1)
Prejudice blinds the soul to the recognition of truth, and prejudice can be removed only by the sincere devotion of the soul to the adoration of a cause that is all-embracing and all-inclusive of one's fellow men. Prejudice is inseparably linked to selfishness. Prejudice can be eliminated only by the abandonment of self-seeking and by substituting therefor the quest of the satisfaction of the service of a cause that is not only greater than self, but one that is even greater than all humanity--the search for God, the attainment of divinity. The evidence of maturity of personality consists in the transformation of human desire so that it constantly seeks for the realization of those values which are highest and most divinely real.

(From: Pearl Bailey (1918 - 1990)
People see God every day; they just don't recognize Him.

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-103 Section-4)
God the Father deals with man his child on the basis, not of actual virtue or worthiness, but in recognition of the child's motivation--the creature purpose and intent. The relationship is one of parent-child association and is actuated by divine love.

(From: Elyon - 2/21/04 – The North Idaho TeaM)
Real lasting harmony is the recognition of differences and the development of the ability to foster each other's welfare for the sake of that other.

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-103 Section-9)
When reason once recognizes right and wrong, it exhibits wisdom; when wisdom chooses between right and wrong, truth and error, it demonstrates spirit leading. And thus are the functions of mind, soul, and spirit ever closely united and functionally interassociated. Reason deals with factual knowledge; wisdom, with philosophy and revelation; faith, with living spiritual experience. Through truth man attains beauty and by spiritual love ascends to goodness.

(From: Jason Mraz )
I love surprises and coincidences. I love them even more when I don't pass them off as luck, but rather recognize them as a sign that my life's course is right on track.

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-196 Section-3)
The purely animal mind may be gregarious for self-protection, but only the spirit-indwelt intellect is unselfishly altruistic and unconditionally loving.

(From: Malvantra 6/3/94 – the Spokane, WA TeaM)
Yes it is truly your next step to learn unconditional love for all your brothers and sisters and yes it can happen. You can see no boundaries, no color, no race, no malformity. You will begin to see others as a light, as yourself, with no judgment, only discernment

(From: Martin Luther King Jr. while Accepting the 1964 Nobel Peace Prize)
I believe that unarmed truth and unconditional love will have the final word in reality. That is why right, temporarily defeated, is stronger than evil triumphant.

(From: Dr. Elizabeth Kubler-Ross )
If we could raise one generation with unconditional love, there would be no Hitlers. We need to teach the next generation of children from Day One that they are responsible for their lives. Mankind's greatest gift, also its greatest curse, is that we have free choice. We can make our choices built from love or from fear.

(From: Will 1/15/92 – the Tallahassee TeaM)
You must start today considering yourselves as a family--one that encompasses love--that unconditional love with which the Father would love you. You must bring forth in each other the best that is there by genuinely appreciating those qualities about each other that are there. There may be times when you may not see all that is there to see, so I encourage you to pray concerning this matter and let the Father show you what He would have you see. Walk in each others' shoes and see through each others' eyes; for only in this way can you begin to understand each other.

(From: Duke Ellington (1899 - 1974)
Love is indescribable and unconditional. I could tell you things that it is not, but not one that it is. Either you have it or you haven't; there's not proof of it.

Back in the early to mid 60's when computers were the size of a good sized building (and who could Possibly use up a 640 kilobyte hard drive), My brother John was getting his Masters in Computer Science at Texas A&M University. Yes, John Megow was “a Aggie.” I remember Loving it when he would come home to San Diego with all of his new Aggie jokes. I remember this one as being one of my favorites over the years…

Two Aggies were out in the back yard when one of them pointed into the sky and here is the conversation that ensued between them…

Greetings my Beloved Sisters and Brothers, and welcome once again to the Church that is Within.

Good Lord! When I began this Weekly Journey on September 29th 1996 with “Sunday Service of the Church Within #1” I wondered if I would make it as far as Sunday Service #50… and here it is Sunday Service of the Church Within #500!

To celebrate, I thought it would be fun to quote an excerpt from the Sermon of each of our previous perceived “Milestones” before I began today's Service, so here they are...

(From: 9-7-97 - Sunday Service of Church Within #50)
Who's pathway to God is better than that of any other? Who among us has any right to judge the sincerity or method of approach to the Divine Source that ANY other may choose? Who here has become so perfect in the following of their own path that they may negate the sincere footsteps of their fellows? Are there any among us who are so truly righteous that God has appointed us to cast a single stone at another?

There is not a single step of sincere Faith which leads anywhere but towards the never ending discovery of the Infinite Parent.

(From: 8-23-98 - Sunday Service of Church Within #100)
Why is it that people so brutally chastise themselves for making mistakes? Do we not learn and grow from our mistakes? How silly to imagine ourselves "All grown up" and no longer capable of making the innocent mistakes of inexperience.

(From: 7-23-2000 - Sunday Service of Church Within #200)
I think that the most Important place in the Whole World, is the place where one can be Safe... a place where they can Safely Be “THEMSELVES”!

(From: 6-23-2002 - Sunday Service of Church Within #300)
The Spiritual Journey is very much like the reading of a Good Book in that… You can only get so far without being willing to "Turn the Page."

(From: 5-30-2004 - Sunday Service of Church Within #400)
When I was much younger I always heard the term, “Forgive and Forget.”
Ya know… I'm thinkin'… wouldn't “Forgive and Remember” work better?
“Forgive. And Remember!”

Now… What would be appropriate for today? Hmmm… I think I better go and do a little bit of a Stillness Meditation to see what arises. I'll be back in a bit… don't go away. You'll hardly know that I'm gone…

OK… I'm back. Sorry it took so long.

It came to me that Sunday Service #1 was simply a Prayer and that it might be appropriate for Sunday Service #500 to provide the Quotes and Sermon to go along with that 1st Prayer…

The topic of today's Sunday Service, #500, is The Garden of your Soul…

(From: Buddha (563 BC - 483 BC)
A family is a place where minds come in contact with one another. If these minds love one another the home will be as beautiful as a flower garden. But if these minds get out of harmony with one another it is like a storm that plays havoc with the garden.

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-147 Section-8)
The Father rather desires that you draw out your heart to the hungry, and that you minister to the afflicted souls; then shall your light shine in obscurity, and even your darkness shall be as the noonday. Then shall the Lord guide you continually, satisfying your soul and renewing your strength. You shall become like a watered garden, like a spring whose waters fail not. And they who do these things shall restore the wasted glories; they shall raise up the foundations of many generations; they shall be called the rebuilders of broken walls, the restorers of safe paths in which to dwell.'"

(From: James Allen)
A man sooner or later discovers that he is the master-gardener of his soul, the director of his life.

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-48 Section-6)
Even now you should learn to water the garden of your heart as well as to seek for the dry sands of knowledge.

(From: Ham – the Nashville TeaM)
Each human being has endowed especially and particularly to him a gift that is his to cultivate.
Once you understand that the task before you is to cultivate the garden of your soul, then you shall surely understand that the gift of your fruits is for all."

(From: Lois McMaster Bujold, A Civil Campaign, 1999)
A hundred objective measurements didn't sum the worth of a garden; only the delight of its users did that. Only the use made it mean something.

(From: Marcel Proust (1871 - 1922)
Let us be grateful to people who make us happy: They are the charming gardeners who make our souls blossom.

(From: The RSV Bible - Isaiah 58:11-12)
And the LORD will guide you continually, and satisfy your desire with good things, and make your bones strong; and you shall be like a watered garden, like a spring of water, whose waters fail not. And your ancient ruins shall be rebuilt; you shall raise up the foundations of many generations; you shall be called the repairer of the breach, the restorer of streets to dwell in.

(From: Abraham 5/7/87 – the New Zeland TeaM)
To grow healthy & strong and in beauty a flower needs tender care, water for refreshment, sunshine for warmth.

You are as flowers in the garden of life. Refresh yourselves from the ocean of truth, grow in the sunshine of God's love and grow in beauty from tender care, from yourself, to yourself.

*******************************************
The Sermon
***********
I see our individual souls as a plot of dirt that we are given in which to co-create the Garden of our Lives… the dirt which through experience, we turn into the Soil wherein the seeds of Truth and Beauty and Goodness and Love may grow and produce “Fruits.” God is as the Sunlight and his/her Love is like the Water… God is also the Master Gardener from whom we may seek advice and guidance in how best to create and nurture our unique, personal garden.

The Soil must be regularly tilled, enriched, watered and weeded for our Garden to be beautiful and productive.

Some may see them as the soil itself, others may think that they are the plants that grow in the Garden, but I tend to liken religious Theology and Philosophy to the Manure that we use as Fertilizer in the Garden of our Soul. Manure adds new Nutrients to the soil and Enriches it so that the “Fruits of the Garden” may grow healthy and strong and plentiful. It all depends upon the particular condition and needs of the Soil, and upon what crops we wish to produce that determines which fertilizer, or blend of fertilizers that we need to incorporate into our Soil. We must of course fertilize regularly to compensate for the inevitable depletion of the nutrients used up by “our plants” or by weeds we may have neglected to pull. Take care not to over-fertilize or you may burn up your plants. ;-)

Is “Your Garden” Healthy and full of Vitality?
Does it get enough Sunlight and Water?
Is the Soil tilled and fertilized adequately?
Are you keeping the Weeds under control or do they steal nutrients from your chosen plants?
Are your “Fruits” abundant enough?

If you are unsure, go within and seek council from The Master Gardener… then follow that council.

Live Life Abundantly!

The Prayer

(from: 9-29-96 Sunday Service of the Church Within #1)

Dearest Father Within us, we petition you for the strength and desire to be about Your Divine will today. As your devoted children, we sincerely seek to know you truly, as you are, and to share that loving knowingness with all of our sisters and brothers who have yet to recognize you within their own souls, and within the souls of all others.

You have planted within us a precious seed... the seed of your Divine Self... the seed of our own divine selves. It is this part of yourself which forever loves us... which ever guides us on the path of our own growth... which transforms us into the fruit bearing tree of your perfect Love.

Show us, dearest Parent, the best way in which we can prepare the soil of our souls for the proper nurturing of this seed of your Divine Being. Show us the rocks that we must remove to leave room for the perfect growth of it's roots. Teach us when it is the best time to water and fertilize for the optimum growth of it's luxuriant foliage. Guide us in the safe removal of the energy stealing weeds of fear, intolerance and insincerity. Help us to recognize and to prune those branches of our immaturity which stifle our ability to bear the sweetness of your life giving fruit.

And when, dear Father, Your fruit of Divine Love is ripe and abundant upon our branches, send forth your children to enjoy the nurturing sweetness of the fruits which together we have grown for Your glory.

You ALL are Within the Infinitely Loving Embrace of our Universal
Parent,

The Creator's Infinite Love to all of You,

(Mothers should appreciate this one… ;-)

I was out walking with my 4 year old daughter. She picked up something off the ground and started to put it in her mouth. I took the item away from her and I asked her not to do that. "Why?" my daughter asked.

"Because it's been laying outside, you don't know where it's been, it's dirty and probably has germs" I replied.

At this point, my daughter looked at me with total admiration and asked, "Wow! How do you know all this stuff?"

"Uh," ...I was thinking quickly, "All moms know this stuff.  It's on the Mommy Test. You have to know it, or they don't let you be a Mommy."

We walked along in silence for 2 or 3 minutes, but she was evidently pondering this new information.

"OH...I get it!" she beamed, "So if you don't pass the test you have to be the daddy."

"Exactly" I replied back with a big smile on my face and joy in my heart.

Greetings my Beloved Sisters and Brothers, and welcome once again to the Church that is Within.

I got to thinking about how difficult it is for so many to perceive the Personal Loving Nature, or even the Reality of God and so…

The topic of today's Sunday Service, #501, is Providence…

*******************************************
The Sermon
***********
When all they can seem to feel is loneliness, abandonment or fear… when all they can really see is external disarray, meanness and intolerance… when all they have come to expect is inevitable disappointment and unrelenting failure… I usually suggest to people that they begin earnestly to look for all of the subtle yet discernable signs of God's active, loving, parental presence in their lives. It is difficult, indeed nearly impossible to discern when one's concentration is so intently focused upon the negative and painful things that predictably occur in this earthbound human life.

Their typical initial responses are…

“God has never been there for me.”
or,
“Why would God care about Me?”;
or,
“I don't feel deserving of God's attention.”

…so I propose to them that they actually begin an experiment to determine whether in fact those perceptions are in reality true or false. Usually their curiosity about my statement causes them to look up longingly for a moment to ask, “What do you mean by that?”, or some such.

Then I offer them an Unconditional Guarantee…
…that, “If you will Sincerely do your best to 'Do your Loving Best' for yourself and for others,
…and, “If you will actively 'role-play' the part of a child who Trusts that their Parent will as a matter of course provide for their true survival needs,
…and, “If you will consistently attempt to take special notice of any and every little apparently lucky/coincidental/accidental occurrence that seems to pop out of nowhere, or happens 'just in the nick of time' or at the very last possible moment…
…then after a matter of time you will indeed begin to consider the possibility, and then to perchance realize that 'well maybe' God Does care about and provide assistance for you and, that you Are deserving of God's loving attention and, that perhaps God Has actually been there for you all Along and that you merely weren't yet capable of recognizing it.”

I can make that Guarantee with Complete Confidence because I have personally experienced time and time again the undeniable Truth of that Reality.

I can make that Guarantee with Complete Confidence because time and time again I have witnessed others who have honestly Tried the “Experiment” and have been astounded/flabbergasted/amazed by their Own personal experience of the results, as was I initially.

I can make that Guarantee with Complete Confidence because the Results of the Experiment are Always the same and always Repeatable… if the Sincerity of the Experimenter, and the personal Desire for the Truth, is Pure and Wholehearted.

Rarely will others be able to witness or even believe that it actually happening for you, but they may notice that “Something” is changed about you.

Rarely will you be able to convince another of the Reality of your experience… unless of course they try the experiment for themselves. Then they will be unable to truly deny it.

Always will you be able to recognize and relate to others who have successfully performed the experiment.

You've tried the Experiment, haven't you?

If not, are you willing to?

(From: Tyron Edwards)
Anxiety is the rust of life, destroying its brightness and weakening its power. A childlike and abiding trust in Providence is its best preventive and remedy.

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-118 Section-10)
Providence does not mean that God has decided all things for us and in advance. God loves us too much to do that, for that would be nothing short of cosmic tyranny. Man does have relative powers of choice. Neither is the divine love that shortsighted affection which would pamper and spoil the children of men.

(From: T. T. Munger )
Providence has nothing good or high in store for one who does not resolutely aim at something high or good. A purpose is the eternal condition of success.

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-118 Section-10)
Providence becomes increasingly discernible as men reach upward from the material to the spiritual. The attainment of completed spiritual insight enables the ascending personality to detect harmony in what was theretofore chaos.

(From: The RSV Bible - Matthew 6:25-26)
"Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you shall eat or what you shall drink, nor about your body, what you shall put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?

(From: W. H. Murray)
This may sound too simple, but is great in consequence. Until one is committed, there is hesitancy, the chance to draw back, always ineffectiveness. Concerning all acts of initiative (and creation), there is one elementary truth the ignorance of which kills countless ideas and splendid plans: that the moment one definitely commits oneself, then providence moves too. A whole stream of events issues from the decision, raising in one's favor all manner of unforeseen incidents, meetings and material assistance, which no man could have dreamt would have come his way."

(From: Mark Twain (1835 - 1910)
Providence protects children and idiots. I know because I have tested it.
