(From: The Book of Runes -#11 - Possessions / Nourishment / Cattle - Reversed )

You fall short in your efforts, you reach out and miss, you watch helplessly while what you've gained dwindles away. Observe what is happening. Examine these events from an open perspective and ask, “What lesson do I need to learn from this in my life?”

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-84 Section-7)
The family is the fundamental unit of fraternity in which parents and children learn those lessons of patience, altruism, tolerance, and forbearance which are so essential to the realization of brotherhood among all men.

(From: Cicero (106 BC - 43 BC )
When you wish to instruct, be brief; that men's minds take in quickly what you say, learn its lesson, and retain it faithfully. Every word that is unnecessary only pours over the side of a brimming mind.

(From: Vernon Sanders Law )
Experience is a hard teacher because she gives the test first, the lesson afterwards.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-28 Section-5)
One of the most important lessons to be learned during your mortal career is teamwork. The spheres of perfection are manned by those who have mastered this art of working with other beings. Few are the duties in the universe for the lone servant. The higher you ascend, the more lonely you become when temporarily without the association of your fellows.

(From: Hugh White (1773 - 1840 )
When you make a mistake, don't look back at it long. Take the reason of the thing into your mind and then look forward. Mistakes are lessons of wisdom. The past cannot be changed. The future is yet in your power.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-48 Section-6)
Some day they will teach you to seek truth as well as fact, to expand your soul as well as your mind. Even now you should learn to water the garden of your heart as well as to seek for the dry sands of knowledge. Forms are valueless when lessons are learned. No chick may be had without the shell, and no shell is of any worth after the chick is hatched.

(From: Henry L. Stimson (1867 - 1950 )
The chief lesson I have learned in a long life is that the only way to make a man trustworthy is to trust him; and the surest way to make him untrustworthy is to distrust him and show your distrust.

(From: Walt Whitman (1819 - 1892 )
Have you learned the lessons only of those who admired you, and were tender with you, and stood aside for you? Have you not learned great lessons from those who braced themselves against you, and disputed passage with you?

(From: “Jesus” - The Urantia Book - Paper-179 Section-3)
“Do you really understand what I have done to you? You call me Master, and you say well, for so I am. If, then, the Master has washed your feet, why was it that you were unwilling to wash one another's feet? What lesson should you learn from this parable in which the Master so willingly does that service which his brethren were unwilling to do for one another?

(From: James M. Barrie (1860 - 1937 )
Life is a long lesson in humility.

(From: Sir Winston Churchill (1874 - 1965 )
The greatest lesson in life is to know that even fools are right sometimes.

(From: Peter McWilliams, Life 101 )
If our early lessons of acceptance were as successful as our early lessons of anger, how much happier we would all be.

(From: Al Franken, "Oh, the Things I Know", 2002)
Mistakes are a part of being human. Appreciate your mistakes for what they are: precious life lessons that can only be learned the hard way. Unless it's a fatal mistake, which, at least, others can learn from.

(From: Kirby Larson, Hattie Big Sky, 2006)
The lessons this life has planted in my heart pertain more to caring than crops, more to Golden Rule than gold, more to the proper choice than to the popular choice.

(From: Oprah Winfrey )
The world has so many lessons to teach you. I consider the world, our earth, to be like a school, and our life, the classrooms. Sometimes on our planet life school, the lessons often come dressed up as detours and road blocks and sometimes as full blown crises. And the secret I've learned to getting ahead is being open to the lessons.

(From: Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803 - 1882 )
He has not learned the lesson of life who does not every day surmount a fear.

(From: George Washington (1732 - 1799 )
We ought not to look back unless it is to derive useful lessons from past errors, and for the purpose of profiting by dear-brought experience.

(From: George Lucas )
The hero is going down the road and meets this poor and insignificant person. The goal or lesson is for the hero to learn to respect everybody and to pay attention to the poorest person because that's where the key to his success will be.

(From: Author Unknown)
One thing about the school of experience is that it will repeat the lesson if you flunk the first time.

I can remember the first time I had to go to sleep. Mom said, "Steven, time to go to sleep." I said, "But I don't know how." She said, "It's real easy. Just go down to the end of tired and hang a left." So I went down to the end of tired, and just out of curiosity I hung a right. My mother was there, and she said "I thought I told you to go to sleep."

A mother's love for her child is like nothing else in the world.

(From: Barbara Schapiro )
Sometimes the laughter in mothering is the recognition of the ironies and absurdities. Sometime, though, it's just pure, unthinking delight.

(From: Heather Armstrong, Dooce, 11-15-05 )
This is part of the essence of motherhood, watching your kid grow into her own person and not being able to do anything about it. Otherwise children would be nothing more than pets.

(From: Jill Churchill )
The most important thing she'd learned over the years was that there was no way to be a perfect mother and a million ways to be a good one.

Quotes

(From: Malcolm Forbes (1919 - 1990 )
Education's purpose is to replace an empty mind with an open one.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-132 Section-3)
Revealed truth, personally discovered truth, is the supreme delight of the human soul; it is the joint creation of the material mind and the indwelling spirit. The eternal salvation of this truth-discerning and beauty-loving soul is assured by that hunger and thirst for goodness which leads this mortal to develop a singleness of purpose to do the Father's will, to find God and to become like him.

(From: Joanna Field )
I began to have an idea of my life, not as the slow shaping of achievement to fit my preconceived purposes, but as the gradual discovery and growth of a purpose which I did not know.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-194 Section-3)
The coming of the Spirit of Truth purifies the human heart and leads the recipient to formulate a life purpose single to the will of God and the welfare of men. The material spirit of selfishness has been swallowed up in this new spiritual bestowal of selflessness.

(From: The RSV Bible - Romans 8:28)
We know that in everything God works for good with those who love him, who are called according to his purpose.

(From: Cynthia Ozick, O Magazine, September 2002 )
To want to be what one can be is purpose in life.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-100 Section-2)
Spiritual development depends, first, on the maintenance of a living spiritual connection with true spiritual forces and, second, on the continuous bearing of spiritual fruit: yielding the ministry to one's fellows of that which has been received from one's spiritual benefactors. Spiritual progress is predicated on intellectual recognition of spiritual poverty coupled with the self-consciousness of perfection-hunger, the desire to know God and be like him, the wholehearted purpose to do the will of the Father in heaven.

(From: George Bernard Shaw (1856 - 1950 )
This is the true joy in life, the being used for a purpose recognized by yourself as a mighty one; the being thoroughly worn out before you are thrown on the scrap heap; the being a force of Nature...

(From: Lady Gaga )
I think it's absolutely a blessing when you just know what your purpose is and your destiny. I don't think it's a curse at all.

(From: Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley (1797 - 1851 )
Nothing contributes so much to tranquilizing the mind as a steady purpose - a point on which the soul may fix its intellectual eye.

(From: Richard Guggenheimer )
Unless a life is activated by sustained purpose it can become a depressingly haphazard affair.

(From: Kurt Vonnegut (1922 - 2007), Sirens of Titan )
A purpose of human life, no matter who is controlling it, is to love whoever is around to be loved.

(From: Leo Rosten )
I think the purpose of life is to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate. I think it is above all to matter, to count, to stand for something. To have it make some difference that you lived at all.

(From: George Eliot (1819 - 1880 )
The only failure a man ought to fear is failure of cleaving to the purpose he sees to be best.

(From: Sir Wilfred T. Grenfell )
The service we render to others is really the rent we pay for our room on this earth. It is obvious that man is himself a traveler; that the purpose of this world is not "to have and to hold" but "to give and serve." There can be no other meaning.

(From: Thomas Carlyle (1795 - 1881 )
Have a purpose in life, and, having it, throw such strength of mind and muscle into your work as God has given you.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-32 Section-5)
There is in the mind of God a plan which embraces every creature of all his vast domains, and this plan is an eternal purpose of boundless opportunity, unlimited progress, and endless life. And the infinite treasures of such a matchless career are yours for the striving!
The goal of eternity is ahead! The adventure of divinity attainment lies before you! The race for perfection is on! whosoever will may enter, and certain victory will crown the efforts of every human being who will run the race of faith and trust...

Do you Know your Purpose?

Do you do the things you do For a Purpose?

Do you live knowingly and With Purpose?

Greetings my Beloved Sisters and Brothers, and welcome once again to the Church that is Within. You are the Temple. You are the Congregation. Any and All Truth is the Gospel. The Divine Spirit within you is your True Minister.

So... I decided to start with a Rune today. the one I picked is all about...

The topic of today's Sunday Service, #970, is Wholeness…

********************************************
Quotes
*******
(From: The Book of Runes - #24 - Wholeness / Life Forces / The Sun's Energy)
This Rune stands for Wholeness, that which your nature requires. It embodies the impulse toward self-realization and indicates the path you must follow, not from ulterior motives but from the core of your individuality.

Seeking after Wholeness is the Spiritual Warrior's quest. And yet what you are striving to become in actuality is what you, by nature, already are. You must become conscious of your essence and bring it into form, express it in a creative way. A Rune of Great Power, making life force available to you, Sowelu marks a time for regeneration right down to the cellular level.

At the same time, for some this Rune counsels opening yourself up, letting the Light into a part of your life that has been secret, shut away. To accomplish this may call for profound recognitions, for admitting to yourself something that you have long denied.

Again, there is a caution here not to give yourself airs. Even in a time of bountiful energy, you are required to face and vanquish your refusal to let right action flow through you. Nourish this capacity, for it is a mark of true humility.

Practice the art of “Doing without doing.” Aim yourself truly and then maintain your aim without manipulative effort, for by our own power we do nothing. Even in loving, it is Love that loves through us. This way of thinking and being integrates new energies and permits you to flow into Wholeness, which is the ultimate goal of the Spiritual Warrior.

(From: Margaret Wheatley )
When we seek for connection, we restore the world to wholeness. Our seemingly separate lives become meaningful as we discover how truly necessary we are to each other.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-192 Section-2)
Then said Jesus: "If, therefore, you serve me with a whole heart, make sure that you are devoted to the welfare of my brethren on earth with tireless affection. Admix friendship with your counsel and add love to your philosophy. Serve your fellow men even as I have served you. Be faithful to men as I have watched over you. Be less critical; expect less of some men and thereby lessen the extent of your disappointment.

(From: Margery Cuyler )
I think wholeness comes from living your life consciously during the day and then exploring your inner life or unconscious at night.

(From: Ursula Le Guin )
You must come to terms with your whole self. the wholeness which exceeds all our virtue and all our vice.

(From: The Tao Te Ching - # 33)
Knowing others is intelligence;
knowing yourself is true wisdom.
Mastering others is strength;
mastering yourself is true power.

If you realize that you have enough,
you are truly rich.
If you stay in the center
and embrace death with your whole heart,
you will endure forever.

(From: The KJV Bible - Mark 8:36)
For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?

(From: “Jesus” - The Urantia Book - Paper-132 Section-4)
“Revere goodness and exalt truth. Choose the beautiful in place of the ugly. Love your fellows and reach out for God with a whole heart, for God is your Father in heaven.”

(From: Ham 6/1/92 – the Woods Cross TeaM)
Wonderful and meaningful is this life. Miraculous and deified is this life. Remember as you walk along enjoying the fresh air and sunshine, the flowers, remember that there is God, a spark within you and a spirit without you. Remember to think about your own soul, this happiness, this spiritual fulfillment. Take time to enjoy the feeling of wholeness, the feeling of spirituality, the feeling of being a wonder in this world.

(From: “Jesus” - The Urantia Book - Paper-190 Section-2)
“How could you doubt? Why have you lingered so long before choosing to follow the light of truth with a whole heart? Come, therefore, all of you into the fellowship of the Spirit of Truth in the Father's kingdom.”

*******************************************
The Sermon
***********
Your Heart wants and seeks Wholeness.
Your Soul craves and reaches for Wholeness.
Your Spirit grasps and embraces Wholeness.

Whenever Possible, direct your mind and your brain to co-operate with them in their quest for Wholeness. It is when all parts of you work together that Wholeness can be truly realized.

Service...
Giving what you don't have to give.
Giving when you don't need to give.
Giving because you want to give.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-131 Section-10)
“...I am going to do my best to treat each of my fellow mortals just as I think God would like to have him treated. And when we live this sort of a life in the flesh, we may ask many things of God, and he will give us the desire of our hearts that we may be the better prepared to serve our fellows. And all of this loving service of the children of God enlarges our capacity to receive and experience the joys of heaven, the high pleasures of the ministry of the spirit of heaven.”

(From: The RSV Bible - John III 1:5)
Beloved, it is a loyal thing you do when you render any service to the brethren, especially to strangers

(From: Woodrow Wilson (1856 - 1924 )
There is no higher religion than human service. To work for the common good is the greatest creed.

(From: Hadewijch of Antwerp )
May your service of love a beautiful thing; want nothing else, fear nothing else and let love be free to become what love truly is.

(From: The RSV Bible - Corinthians I 12:4-7)
Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; and there are varieties of service, but the same Lord; and there are varieties of working, but it is the same God who inspires them all in every one. To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good.

(From: “Jesus” - The Urantia Book - Paper-191 Section-5)
“Your mission to the world is founded on the fact that I lived a God-revealing life among you; on the truth that you and all other men are the sons of God; and it shall consist in the life which you will live among men—the actual and living experience of loving men and serving them, even as I have loved and served you. Let faith reveal your light to the world; let the revelation of truth open the eyes blinded by tradition; let your loving service effectually destroy the prejudice engendered by ignorance.”

(From: Cesar E. Chavez )
The end of all education should surely be service to others.

*******************************************
The Sermon
***********
When we choose to Serve others unselfishly... in reality, in truth... it is a Service to God. "In as much as you did it to one of the least of my brethren, you did it to me." If we could just learn to always see that Spark of the Divine within others, how much easier it would be to love and to serve them. Do we truly look? I myself do not look nearly as often as I could... as often as I should. It's not that I do not wish to, as much as it is that I too often let the things of this world get in the way... and I Forget to look.

If only I could be more like the "little child". Children see the good in everything because that is all that they know to look for… until taught otherwise. Ever notice how a little child has a way of seeing the good in the most cantankerous of individuals when given just the barest minimum of opportunity to do so? Kids Love to do things for others, they love to be in Service because they know that it makes them feel good to help others. That is how I would be if I had my preference... how about you?
