How is the World like a Pie?

With a Pie… You cannot have a Piece without creating a Hole.
With the World… You cannot have a Peace without creating a Whole.

(From: John Lennon)
All we are saying is give peace a chance.

(From: Jawaharlal Nehru)
Peace is not a relationship of nations. It is a condition of mind brought about by a serenity of soul. Peace is not merely the absence of war. It is also a state of mind. Lasting peace can come only to peaceful people.

(From: The RSV Bible - John 14:27)
Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.

(From: The RSV Bible - John 16:33)
I have said this to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world."

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-181 Section-1)
The peace of Jesus is the joy and satisfaction of a God-knowing individual who has achieved the triumph of learning fully how to do the will of God while living the mortal life in the flesh. The peace of Jesus' mind was founded on an absolute human faith in the actuality of the divine Father's wise and sympathetic overcare. Jesus had trouble on earth, he has even been falsely called the "man of sorrows," but in and through all of these experiences he enjoyed the comfort of that confidence which ever empowered him to proceed with his life purpose in the full assurance that he was achieving the Father's will.

(From: The RSV Bible - Romans 8:14-15)
For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the spirit of sonship. When we cry, "Abba! Father!" it is the Spirit himself bearing witness with our spirit that we are children of God

(From: Thomas A. Kempis [1420AD] - “Imitation of Christ”)
First keep the peace within yourself, then you can also bring peace to others.

(From: The RSV Bible - Matthew 5:9)
"Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-181 Section-1)
        The peace of Jesus is, then, the peace and assurance of a son who fully believes that his career for time and eternity is safely and wholly in the care and keeping of an all-wise, all-loving, and all-powerful spirit Father. And this is, indeed, a peace which passes the understanding of mortal mind, but which can be enjoyed to the full by the believing human heart.

(From: John Lennon)
Imagine all the people living life in peace.

The Sermon
***********
Fully believe that your career for all time and eternity is safely and wholly in the care and keeping of an all-wise, all-loving, and all-powerful spirit Father… God.

Bottom Line… Simple as Pie.

You won't Know until you Succeed…
You won't Succeed until you Try…
You won't Try until you give up Control…
You won't give up Control until you Trust…
You won't Trust until you abandon Fear…
You won't abandon Fear until you have Absolute Faith in God's Love for You.

God Loves You!
Be at Peace.

Why is it when we talk to God we're praying---
but when God talks to us, we're schizophrenic?

********************************************
Welcome by: Pastor Daniel
************************
Greetings my Beloved Sisters and Brothers, and welcome once again to the Church that is Within.

        Perhaps without exception, Every religion in the world asks/tells their followers to Pray or Meditate. The methods are different… Obviously. But seemingly, they all want you to do it Consciously and with Purpose. Some would even suggest that Their way is the only Effective way to pray, although anyone who has personally experienced the answer to a personal prayer knows how true That is.

        Most of the time, I use the Sunday Service “Quotes” to set up the “Sermon” so to speak. Today I decided to have the Sermon “set up” the Quotes… so to speak…

*******************************************
The Sermon
***********
Pray.
        There are times you just can't Help it, ya Know? You just Do it. Like…

        “Help Me Get OUT of This… I'll be Good… I'll do Whatever You Want… I Promise!”

        Regardless of who they are, or where they live, or what language they speak, or what they believe… or even whether or Not they believe… Everybody, at some point in their lives (if not many times ;-), says that prayer. Using different words, Undoubtedly… with differing concepts of Who or What they are reflexively saying those words To, Assuredly… the ego cries out to a Higher Power instinctively… unbidden… without premeditation. Even they who have No beliefs whatsoever have not immunity when it comes to the saying of that particular “prayer.” Seemingly All Alone… No One to Turn to for Help… the feeling of Imminent Danger… Deep Inner Distress… Powerless… frightened… the human being, the human child asks for unseen help. It Prays. If it lives to talk about it… it's prayer has been answered in the affirmative. A quick, “WHEW!” and then so soon it is forgotten that one even prayed. Funny how that is… isn't it? I'd think it would be a good idea to Remember those… don't You?

        There is another kind of universal prayer that seems the result of a reflex… as in the previous example. Again, it is said out of instinct… one doesn't even realize it has been said until after the fact. But it is a very Different Kind of Prayer… It is a Prayer from the Soul rather than a prayer from the ego…

        “Thank You, Thank You, Thank You, Thank You, Thank You, Thank You, THANK YOU!”

        It may or may not be in words, it may be but a feeling of Incredible Gladness or Gratitude… or Relief. It just comes out… Goes out to One who is again unseen, unobservable, outside of physical perception. This particular prayer quite often immediately follows the answer to the previous prayer and in like manner is just as easily forgotten… but when it comes in a moment of Surprise or in a moment of Achievement, it is Remembered… at least a Little longer. Ego has a short memory about those kinds of things, but Soul remembers… when ego allows it to.

Everybody Prays, whether they know it or not. They just can't Help it.

Or… Can they?

(From: Kahlil Gibran)
You pray in your distress and in your need; would that you might also pray in the fullness of your joy and in your days of abundance.

(From: Ham - The Nashville TeaM 11/04/2001)
It is said that the wise man awakens with a song of praise upon his heart and goes to bed with a prayer of gratitude upon his lips. And truly, this is a recipe for happiness in this life.

(From: The RSV Bible - Romans 12:12)
Rejoice in your hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer.

(From: Ham - The Nashville TeaM 11/04/2001)
The Father provides and it is wise to acknowledge what he has given you rather than focusing on what is not yet available. At the end of the day, after you have done your best, striving for something a little beyond your reach, take some time and acknowledge what is plentiful in your lives even if it is only love for the Father and his love for you. If all the rest of your life is very sparse, still you are very rich.

(From: Francis Cardinal Spellman)
Pray as if everything depended upon God and work as if everything depended upon man.

(From: The RSV Bible - Matthew 6:6)
But when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you.

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-180 Section-2)
How long will it take the world of believers to understand that prayer is not a process of getting your way but rather a program of taking God's way, an experience of learning how to recognize and execute the Father's will? It is entirely true that, when your will has been truly aligned with his, you can ask anything conceived by that will-union, and it will be granted.

(From: Phillips Brooks)
Do not pray for easy lives. Pray to be stronger men. Do not pray for tasks equal to your powers. Pray for powers equal to your tasks. Then the doing of your work shall be no miracle, but you shall be the miracle.

(From: Abraham Lincoln)
Don't pray that God's on our side, pray that we're on his side.

(From: Soren Kierkegaard)
Prayer does not change God, but changes him who prays.

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-146 Section-2)
        The cry of the righteous is the faith act of the child of God which opens the door of the Father's storehouse of goodness, truth, and mercy, and these good gifts have long been in waiting for the son's approach and personal appropriation. Prayer does not change the divine attitude toward man, but it does change man's attitude toward the changeless Father. The motive of the prayer gives it right of way to the divine ear, not the social, economic, or outward religious status of the one who prays.

(From: The RSV Bible - Thessalonians I 5:16-18)
Rejoice always, pray constantly, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

Dear God,
        There is no Greater Gift that You have given to me than the Gift of becoming More and More Conscious of You… of Getting to Know You Better… of Recognizing Your Presence and Companionship… Your Love. Help me the better to Use this Precious Gift… life can be so unsatisfying when I forget. Help me to Be, my beloved Parent, exactly what You want me to be, for I know that Your Wisdom is Greatest and Your Will my most Rewarding Path.

        Dear Lord, I've been asked, nay commanded, to thank Thee for the Christmas turkey before us... a turkey which was no doubt a lively, intelligent bird... a social being... capable of actual affection... nuzzling its young with almost human-like compassion. Anyway, it's dead and we're gonna eat it. Please give our respects to its family...

Greetings my Beloved Sisters and Brothers, and welcome once again to the Church that is Within.

Thanksgiving Day is almost upon us. Though in times of strife or sorrow or fear it may be quite Difficult to think of things to be thankful for, still it is yet Possible… and even the more, Necessary. There is so Very Much to be Thankful for that only the Vision of the Soul can clearly see…

Quotes

(From: Epictetus [50 AD - 138 AD])
If you would cure anger, do not feed it. Say to yourself: 'I used to be angry every day; then every other day; now only every third or fourth day.' When you reach thirty days offer a sacrifice of thanksgiving to the gods.

(From: Seneca [3 BC - 65 AD])
It is another's fault if he be ungrateful, but it is mine if I do not give. To find one thankful man, I will oblige a great many that are not so.

(From: Albert Schweitzer)
In everyone's life, at some time, our inner fire goes out. It is then burst into flame by an encounter with another human being. We should all be thankful for those people who rekindle the inner spirit.

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-188 Section-4)
Jesus taught that service to one's fellows is the highest concept of the brotherhood of spirit believers. Salvation should be taken for granted by those who believe in the fatherhood of God. The believer's chief concern should not be the selfish desire for personal salvation but rather the unselfish urge to love and, therefore, serve one's fellows even as Jesus loved and served mortal men.

(From: The RSV Bible - Corinthians II 9:15)
Thanks be to God for his inexpressible gift!

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-131 Section-10)
        "I will every day thank God for his unspeakable gifts; I will praise him for his wonderful works to the children of men. To me he is the Almighty, the Creator, the Power, and the Mercy, but best of all, he is my spirit Father, and as his earth child I am sometime going forth to see him.

(From: Ham - The Nashville TeaM 11/04/2001)
It is important for your happiness as you go through life to keep an eye on your
goals, but more importantly, to constantly be aware of what you have in plenty. Focus on what is available to you, what is plentiful for you, what is abundant rather than focusing on what is scarce or hard to come by.

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-146 Section-2)
        And then Jesus said: "Be not constantly overanxious about your common needs. Be not apprehensive concerning the problems of your earthly existence, but in all these things by prayer and supplication, with the spirit of sincere thanksgiving, let your needs be spread out before your Father who is in heaven."

(From: Ham - The Nashville TeaM 11/04/2001)
Many people are driven by their focus on what they want, what is scarce in their lives, and this certainly can be an engine to move you forward but it should not be an obsession for that leads to unhappiness. To be happy, one must be grateful. The two are inseparable and it is a simple thing to give thanks for what is plentiful in your lives and thus to open your mind to the happiness that is available to you.

(From: The RSV Bible - Corinthians I 10:31)
So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.

(From: The RSV Bible - Psalm 28:7)
The LORD is my strength and my shield; in him my heart trusts; so I am helped, and my heart exults, and with my song I give thanks to him.

(This recently appeared on the Internet - Source Unknown)

If we could shrink the population of the earth to a village of precisely 100 people, with the entire existing human ratios remaining the same, it would look sometime like the following:

There would be:

57 Asians;
21 Europeans;
14 from the Western Hemisphere, both North and South;
8 Africans;
52 would be female;
48 would be male;
70 would be non-white;
30 would be white;
89 would be heterosexual;
11 would be homosexual;
6 people would possess 59% of the world's wealth and all would be from the United States;
80 would live in substandard housing;
70 would be unable to read;
50 would suffer from malnutrition;
1 would be near death;
1 would be near birth;
1 (yes, only 1) would have a college education;
1 would own a computer;
1 would know about Chiropractic or other alternative healthcare.

*******************************************
The Sermon
***********
        When one considers our world from such a compressed perspective, the need for acceptance, understanding and education becomes glaringly apparent. We live in a time where it is exceedingly important to look at our lives as others see them. If we are among the 20 who have standard, above average or even extravagant housing, how do the other 80 view us? If we are able to read and write, do we express any gratitude for that, or do we view it as a right or a given? How do we use the wealth with which we have been graced? We all have some wealth of some sort even if we are monetarily poor.

        The following is something also to ponder… If you woke up this morning with more health than illness… you are more blessed than the million who will not survive this week.

        If you have never experienced the danger of battle, the loneliness of imprisonment, the agony of torture, or the pangs of starvation… you are ahead of 500 million people in the world.

        If you can attend the church meeting of your choice without fear of harassment, arrest, torture or even death…. you are more blessed than three billion people in the world.

        If you have food and you have a refrigerator, clothes on your back, a roof overhead and a place to sleep, you are richer than 75% of the people on this world.

        If you have money in the bank, in your wallet and spare change in a dish somewhere… you are among the top 8% of the world's wealthy.

        If your parents are still alive and still married… you are very rare.

        If you can hold someone's hand, hug them or even touch them on the shoulder… you are blessed because you can offer the precious gift of healing touch.

        Perhaps that is the real issue today. Can you find at least one person today... and every day… to hug, to touch, or with whom to hold hands? Can you reach out and touch at least one person everyday? Can you let them know that they are not alone, that there is more love and care in the world than there is hatred and violence? Can you make a difference today in the life of someone? Can you let someone know that they are not alone and that they are truly a blessing on the face of this earth? Can you begin living as though there are no strangers among us… like we believe that we are all connected? Can you imagine what the world would be like if we really knew that if one of us goes to bed hungry at night that we all go to bed hungry in some sense? What would it be like if we really believed that we are all brothers and sisters, united as a family? And, that even those who hurt us, mock us and hate us are part of the family?

*******************************************
The Prayer
**********
Loving and Gracious God,
        We praise you and thank you for the gift of our very lives. Whether we are rich or whether we are poor, we are all rich in your love and compassion. Help to us to share that love in your name. Shape us and form us as a family in every sense of the word.
        Let us be grateful for the many riches you have so abundantly poured out upon us. May we share all that we have willingly, lovingly and gratefully with each other.

Amen.

God's love and abundant blessings,

Judy Girard,
Minister, The Church Within
