The most exciting phrase to hear in science, the one that heralds new discoveries, is not 'Eureka!' (I found it!) but 'That's funny ...'

Greetings my Beloved Sisters and Brothers, and welcome once again to the Church that is Within.

Children are in a constant state of Discovery. Discovery is what the Life of a Child is all about!

The topic of today's Sunday Service, #472, is Discovery…

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-14 Section-5)
Love of adventure, curiosity, and dread of monotony--these traits inherent in evolving human nature--were not put there just to aggravate and annoy you during your short sojourn on earth, but rather to suggest to you that death is only the beginning of an endless career of adventure, an everlasting life of anticipation, an eternal voyage of discovery.

(From: M. C. Escher (1898 - 1972)
He who wonders discovers that this in itself is wonder.

(From: Arthur Koestler (1905 - 1983)
The more original a discovery, the more obvious it seems afterwards.

(From: Albert von Szent-Gyorgyi (1893 - 1986)
Discovery consists of seeing what everybody has seen and thinking what nobody has thought.

(From: Helen Keller (1880 - 1968)
No pessimist ever discovered the secret of the stars or sailed an uncharted land, or opened a new doorway for the human spirit.

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-100 Section-2)
Spiritual growth is first an awakening to needs, next a discernment of meanings, and then a discovery of values. The evidence of true spiritual development consists in the exhibition of a human personality motivated by love, activated by unselfish ministry, and dominated by the wholehearted worship of the perfection ideals of divinity. And this entire experience constitutes the reality of religion as contrasted with mere theological beliefs.

(From: Sir Francis Bacon (1561 - 1626)
They are ill discoverers that think there is no land, when they can see nothing but sea.

(From: Andre Gide (1869 - 1951)
One doesn't discover new lands without consenting to lose sight of the shore for a very long time.

(From: Frank Herbert (1920 - 1986)

The beginning of knowledge is the discovery of something we do not understand.

(From: Will Durant (1885 - 1981)
Education is a progressive discovery of our own ignorance.

(From: Daniel J. Boorstin)
The greatest obstacle to discovery is not ignorance - it is the illusion of knowledge.

(From: Galileo Galilei (1564 - 1642)
All truths are easy to understand once they are discovered; the point is to discover them.

(From: Marcel Proust (1871 - 1922)
We don't receive wisdom; we must discover it for ourselves after a journey that no one can take for us or spare us.

(From: Blaise Pascal (1623 - 1662)
One must know oneself, if this does not serve to discover truth, it at least serves as a rule of life and there is nothing better.

(From: Shakti Gawain)
We will discover the nature of our particular genius when we stop trying to conform to our own or to other peoples' models, learn to be ourselves, and allow our natural channel to open.

(From: Barbra Streisand)
A human being is only interesting if he's in contact with himself. I learned you have to trust yourself, be what you are, and do what you ought to do the way you should do it. You have got to discover you, what you do, and trust it.

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-103 Section-4)
The hunger and thirst for righteousness leads to the discovery of truth, and truth augments ideals, and this creates new problems for the individual religionists, for our ideals tend to grow by geometrical progression, while our ability to live up to them is enhanced only by arithmetical progression.

(From: John Keats (1795 - 1821)
Don't be discouraged by a failure. It can be a positive experience. Failure is, in a sense, the highway to success, inasmuch as every discovery of what is false leads us to seek earnestly after what is true, and every fresh experience points out some form of error which we shall afterwards carefully avoid.

(From: Alan Alda)
The creative is the place where no one else has ever been. You have to leave the city of your comfort and go into the wilderness of your intuition. What you'll discover will be wonderful. What you'll discover will be yourself.

(From: Tina Turner)
The real power behind whatever success I have now was something I found within myself - something that's in all of us, I think, a little piece of God just waiting to be discovered.

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-102 Section-3)
Religious desire is the hunger quest for divine reality. Religious experience is the realization of the consciousness of having found God. And when a human being does find God, there is experienced within the soul of that being such an indescribable restlessness of triumph in discovery that he is impelled to seek loving service-contact with his less illuminated fellows, not to disclose that he has found God, but rather to allow the overflow of the welling-up of eternal goodness within his own soul to refresh and ennoble his fellows.

(From: Martin Luther King Jr. (1929 - 1968)
If we are to go forward, we must go back and rediscover those precious values -- that all reality hinges on moral foundations and that all reality has spiritual control.

(From: Blaise Pascal (1623 - 1662)
We are generally the better persuaded by the reasons we discover ourselves than by those given to us by others.

(From: Solonia – 2/4/04 – the Garden TeaM)
If you were perfectly in love with Truth, you would find it difficult to experience anger at another mortal because your love for the Truth would draw you to want to understand the other better, for love of Truth is love of all. Discovering what is real, what is relatively real, and what indeed is false, is a challenge to mortals of this world who have so often been cheated, or lied to, or abused. Perfect love of Truth may be somewhat easier of acceptance when it is applied to the whole outside world that you live in. The discovery of that Truth is the epitome of beauty.

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-132 Section-3)
Revealed truth, personally discovered truth, is the supreme delight of the human soul; it is the joint creation of the material mind and the indwelling spirit. The eternal salvation of this truth-discerning and beauty-loving soul is assured by that hunger and thirst for goodness which leads this mortal to develop a singleness of purpose to do the Father's will, to find God and to become like him. There is never conflict between true knowledge and truth. There may be conflict between knowledge and human beliefs, beliefs colored with prejudice, distorted by fear, and dominated by the dread of facing new facts of material discovery or spiritual progress.

(From: William James (1842 - 1910)
The greatest discovery of any generation is that a human being can alter his life by altering his attitude.

A new teacher was trying to make use of her psychology courses. She started her class by saying, "Everyone who thinks they're stupid, stand up!"

After a few seconds, Little Johnny stood up.

The teacher said, "Do you think you're stupid, Little Johnny?"

"No, ma'am, but I hate to see you standing there all by yourself!"

Greetings my Beloved Sisters and Brothers, and welcome once again to the Church that is Within.

Now that I have “grown up” I realize that even within my own “nuclear family” there are differences in our memories, our interpretations, our experiences of the past we shared together. Though we shared the same earthly parents, still we experienced them differently and have varied understandings of who they were/are. Is it any wonder that all have a unique and singular understanding of our Spiritual Parents?

The topic of today's Sunday Service, #473, is: Brotherhood/Sisterhood/Family-hood…

*******************************************
The Sermon
***********
Just about all religions look favorably on Brotherhood of some sort.

Some promote it only among their own particular followers, and anyone else that they can convert to Their specific interpretation of God's Reality (Theology). They might say, or think, something like… “If you are not a 'whatever', then you are not My brother.” or, “You can Be my brother though, if you follow My ways.” “I can't become Your brother, but You can become Mine if you…” You know… the “One True Religion”, “We're the only ones who will be Saved”, “My Way or the Highway”, types?

Some others promote Brotherhood outside of their own specific Sect. They have broadened their perspectives somewhat to include all who believe in This person or That person. “If you believe in “whomever” then we are brothers.”

There are those who promote Brotherhood in Word.

There are those who promote Brotherhood in Action.

Putting aside all Theology, Creed, Philosophy or Doctrine for a moment…

Some individuals believe that the only brothers and/or Sisters they have are those who have the same earthly mother and father as they do… they are “Blood” relations. Their catch-phrase is “Blood is thicker than Water.” or, “Keep it in the Family.” or some such…

Families may not always get along… may not agree on everything… may not even like one another very much sometimes, but there is still a Bond that goes beyond personal issues. They will usually Defend one another, and will generally support and help one another in crisis, despite any petty differences they may have during everyday life.

Have you ever noticed that about Brothers and Sisters… about Families?

Whether we like it or not, we are All Brothers and Sisters… we are Family.

Irregardless of our Birthplace, Country or Continent… of our Upbringing, Heritage or Race… of our Theology, Beliefs or Religion… or… of our Status, our Knowledge, or our Personal Understanding… We are all one big Family… a Spiritual Family.

Do you believe that?

Do you Proclaim that?

Do you Live that daily?

Let us each be as those Individuals who just naturally Act like a Loving Brother or Sister to everyone. You know one or have met one, haven't you? They sincerely care about you and others no matter Who you or they are, or What you or they believe. Kinda like “The Good Samaritan” treated his “neighbor” if you know what I mean. You know… people with Self-Respect and Respect for the Uniqueness of others… people with Genuine Empathy and Compassion and Humility. They treat others as they wish others would treat them. “I may not know Your Pain, but I do know Pain and I would help to comfort yours if I am in any way able.” or, “I may believe differently than you, but I respect your right to follow the path that makes sense to you.” or, “You are hungry… Here… Share what I have.” or, “Let me help you to carry your load.” They are Brothers and Sisters in Spirit.

We are Brothers and Sisters in Spirit.

Spirit IS Thicker than Blood.

Quotes
*******
(From: William J. H. Boetcker, 1916)

You cannot further the brotherhood of man by inciting class hatreds.

(From: Arthur Powell Davies)
The world is now too small for anything but brotherhood.

(From: Machiventa - 4/20/97 – The North Idaho TeaM)
The burdens and fights for survival could be handled much easier if we could join together and help each other as a family unit. This exercise could bring about the idea of complete sisterhood and brotherhood.

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-84 Section-7)
The family provides for the biologic perpetuation of the human species. The home is the natural social arena wherein the ethics of blood brotherhood may be grasped by the growing children. The family is the fundamental unit of fraternity in which parents and children learn those lessons of patience, altruism, tolerance, and forbearance which are so essential to the realization of brotherhood among all men.

(From: Mark Twain (1835 - 1910)
The universal brotherhood of man is our most precious possession.

(From: Martin Luther King Jr. (1929 - 1968)
The hope of a secure and livable world lies with disciplined nonconformists who are dedicated to justice, peace and brotherhood.

(From: Tyron Edwards)
Whoever in prayer can say, "Our Father," acknowledges and should feel the brotherhood of the whole race of mankind.

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-99 Section-5)
Modern men have thought out many creeds and created many tests of religious faith. Future religionists must live out their religion, dedicate themselves to the wholehearted service of the brotherhood of man. It is high time that man had a religious experience so personal and so sublime that it could be realized and expressed only by "feelings that lie too deep for words."

(From: Jane Wyman)
The opportunity for brotherhood presents itself every time you meet a human being.

(From: The RSV Bible - Romans 12:10)
love one another with brotherly affection; outdo one another in showing honor.

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-100 Section-4)
You cannot truly love your fellows by a mere act of the will. Love is only born of thoroughgoing understanding of your neighbor's motives and sentiments. It is not so important to love all men today as it is that each day you learn to love one more human being. If each day or each week you achieve an understanding of one more of your fellows, and if this is the limit of your ability, then you are certainly socializing and truly spiritualizing your personality. Love is infectious, and when human devotion is intelligent and wise, love is more catching than hate. But only genuine and unselfish love is truly contagious. If each mortal could only become a focus of dynamic affection, this benign virus of love would soon pervade the sentimental emotion-stream of humanity to such an extent that all civilization would be encompassed by love, and that would be the realization of the brotherhood of man.

(From: Adlai E. Stevenson Jr. (1900 - 1965)
I believe that if we really want human brotherhood to spread and increase until it makes life safe and sane, we must also be certain that there is no one true faith or path by which it may spread

Greetings my Beloved Sisters and Brothers, and welcome once again to the Church that is Within.

Have you ever heard the term “It's All Good!”? Though it may not seem so at times, it is Truth in Potential…

The topic of today's Sunday Service, #472, is Resolution and Happiness/Cheerfulness…

*******************************************
The Sermon
***********
Our early experiences in life (infancy through childhood and teen years), serve to move us into our own peculiar/unique life directions. They also very much help to determine what our Inner Dreams for ourselves, and for the world, will become. They set the Standards for our Higher, even perhaps our Highest Ideals.

One illustration that comes to mind is that, in excess of 90% of Counselors and Therapists have chosen this particular life path because of their own troubled childhood experiences. Perhaps they do so to gain an understanding of their own inner suffering---personal answers or hopefully, resolutions. Maybe they choose this path because it is their inner desire to help others avoid the same kind of anguish that they have had to endure. I would indeed be surprised if it is not both.
A startling percentage of Counselors have not yet fully resolved many of their own childhood issues (perchance mistaking recognition of an issue for it's resolution), and therefore are unknowingly of minimal help to others when those particular unresolved issues surface. They perhaps have the education or knowledge to do so, but they have not yet recognized or owned up to the fact that they must apply this knowledge to themselves and not just tell it to others… they must experience the validity of that knowledge in the solution of their own life's issues… then would their efforts be most effective.

Is it not that way with most, if not all of us? We learn something astonishing that alters/enhances our own perspective (paradigm), and then we start to share it with everyone else before actually applying it in reality to ourselves. We may have applied it in some ways, sure… in “Safe” ways… but fear often inhibits us from utilizing it at our deeper hidden levels, the “issues” that have always caused us certain grief and suffering in the past… you know, the ones that damaged our Trust or misread our intentions or seemed to reject our Love… the ones that hurt our “little child” the most deeply.

Most of our “Issue Resolution” is only partial resolution and we will have instances where we find ourselves faced with an issue we thought we had already resolved... sometimes several Times already. Do Not let these Disappoint you! The CORE Issue must be approached in layers... All of the different ways it has been influential in our choices and Perspectives are Each a Single Layer. Be Patient with yourself. Some layers are tougher and more seemingly impenetrable than others. Each layer has a significant tool for penetrating This layer and also the next.

Resolution requires the Mature Adult perspective of Soul to go back and forgive the hurt child in us who was unable to understand entire situations from an adult understanding. As little children, we can perceive only the world we can understand. If something/anything Happens in our world, we can only comprehend that it must have been something we had done or failed to do. As adults now, with the Loving Parental understanding that we acquire in maturity, we must be Parent to our own inner child and forgive it for the mistakes, the misinterpretations, the inability to affect outcomes because of age and maturity limitations... We must now start Kissing all the "Owies" of our past immaturity.

Trust the God Within to bring you to the issues you are ready to handle. Never will you be forced to go where you are not yet fully capable of going. You need not "re-write" the past... only the Perception of the past. Does that make sense to you? Our greatest Fear, is that our Whole understanding of the world may crumble around us if we find that our early perceptions were false or mistaken... that many of the choices that we have made in our lives were based on incorrect information or assumptions and thus have been the cause of so much of our apparently unnecessary Pain. We initially fear that they will Wrench us Apart, and yet when we face them with Love and Compassion and a more Mature understanding... Indeed they can just Melt... Away. Our childhood perceptions, when we fearfully Cling to them as the whole basis for our Reality, can keep us prisoners of our Past. Letting them evolve as our Wisdom and Understanding evolve, we can begin to see the Value of ALL of our experiences and how they have unfailingly guided us to where we are today at This Very Moment! (a place that we can choose to go forward from)

Your Life's Experiences (whether you have identified them as good, or as bad) have been the Seeds planted in the Garden of your Dreams… the Garden of your Soul. The “Plants” that grow from them define your personal desires for Greater Happiness and Service to others. The Fruits of your Garden will nourish your Spirit if you utilize them, and will help to nourish others if you share them.

Knowing that we are Dearly Beloved Children of God, and Trusting in the constant Watchcare of our Divine Parent... from without And from Within... we need No longer fear Anything which we may "chance" to experience. We need only learn and grow from it. It ALL can lead us to our Highest Service to God and ourselves, and to all of our Sisters and Brothers that we share this world with!

…and this is a Good thing.

*******
(from: Abraham Lincoln (1809 - 1865)
Always bear in mind that your own resolution to succeed is more important than any one thing.

(from: Samuel Smiles)
"Where there is a will there is a way," is an old and true saying. He who resolves upon doing a thing, by that very resolution often scales the barriers to it, and secures its achievement. To think we are able, is almost to be so - to determine upon attainment is frequently attainment itself.

(from: Kahlil Gibran (1883 - 1931)
Tenderness and kindness are not signs of weakness and despair, but manifestations of strength and resolutions.

(from: Benjamin Disraeli (1804-1881)
Action may not always bring happiness, but there is no happiness without action.

(from: James Russell Lowell (1819-1891)
Let us be of good cheer, remembering that the misfortunes hardest to bear are those which never happen.

(from: The Urantia Papers - Paper-149 Section-5 Para-2)
"Simon, some persons are naturally more happy than others. Much, very much, depends upon the willingness of man to be led and directed by the Father's spirit which lives within him.

(from: Olfana – 11/17/93 - The Half Moon Bay TeaM)
Cheerfulness comes easily, when one remembers one's destiny is Godward. "Be of Good Cheer" is an encouragement to exist with God in your every effort in life. Cheerfulness can be infectious. It spreads enthusiasm for life from one to another. People need this powerful ingredient in their life. We weep to see those whose lives lack all cheer, or hope of God's Comfort. Reestablish your faith in the power of God's Love to envelop you, and raise your emotional balance, so that you can take, with equanimity, the experiences of life. Exuberance, the Energy of God, life's vital force, flowing through your actions, is testimony of a cheerful nature.

(from: the Tao Te Ching - #44)
Fame or integrity: which is more important?
Money or happiness: which is more valuable?
Success of failure: which is more destructive?

If you look to others for fulfillment,
you will never truly be fulfilled.
If your happiness depends on money,
you will never be happy with yourself.

Be content with what you have;
rejoice in the way things are.
When you realize there is nothing lacking,
the whole world belongs to you.

A little boy was walking down a dirt road after church one Sunday afternoon when he came to a crossroads where he met a little girl Coming from the other direction.

"Hello," said the little boy.

"Hi," replied the little girl.

"Where are you going?" asked the little boy.

"I've been to church this morning and I'm on my way home," answered The little girl.

"Me too," replied the little boy. "I'm also on my way home from church." "Which church do you go to?" asked the little boy.

"I go to the Baptist church back down the road," replied the little girl. What about you?"

"I go to the Catholic church back at the top of the hill," replied the little boy.

They discover that they are both going the same way so they decided that they'd walk together.
They came to a low spot in the road where spring rains had partially flooded the road so there was no way that they could get across to the other side without getting wet.

"If I get my new Sunday dress wet my Mom's going to skin me alive," said the little girl.

"My Mom'll tan my hide too if I get my new Sunday suit wet," replied the little boy.

"I tell you what I think I'll do," said the little girl. "I'm gonna pull off all my clothes and hold them over my head and wade across."

"That's a good idea," replied the little boy. "I'm going to do the same thing with my suit."

So they both undressed and waded across to the other side without getting their clothes wet.
They were standing there in the sun waiting to drip dry before putting their clothes back on when the little boy finally remarked, "You know, I never did realize before just how much difference there really is between a Baptist and a Catholic."
