A grandfather was walking through his yard when he heard his granddaughter repeating the alphabet in a tone of voice that sounded like a prayer. He asked her what she was doing. The little girl explained: "I'm praying, but I can't think of exactly the right words, so I'm just saying all the letters, and God will put them together for me, because He knows what I'm thinking."
(Charles B. Vaughan)

Quotes

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-170 Section-2)
1. Faith, sincerity. To come as a little child, to receive the bestowal of sonship as a gift; to submit to the doing of the Father's will without questioning and in the full confidence and genuine trustfulness of the Father's wisdom; to come into the kingdom free from prejudice and preconception; to be open-minded and teachable like an unspoiled child.

(From: Abraham 6/3/96 – the Woods Cross TeaM)
Your desire to be in the will of our Father, leads you to love.

(From: Samuel Butler (1835 - 1902), The Way of All Flesh)
He has spent his life best who has enjoyed it most; God will take care that we do not enjoy it any more than is good for us.

(From: Epicurus (341 BC - 270 BC)
A strict belief, fate is the worst kind of slavery; on the other hand there is comfort in the thought that God will be moved by our prayers.

(From: The ASB Bible - Matthew 6:8-10)
"…for your Father knows what you need before you ask Him. "Pray, then, in this way: "Our Father who is in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. "Your kingdom come. Your will be done, On earth as it is in heaven.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-111 Section-5)
Peace in this life, survival in death, perfection in the next life, service in eternity — all these are achieved (in spirit) now when the creature personality consents — chooses — to subject the creature will to the Father's will..

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-111 Section-5)
This choosing of the Father's will is the spiritual finding of the spirit Father by mortal man, even though an age must pass before the creature son may actually stand in the factual presence of God on Paradise. This choosing does not so much consist in the negation of creature will — “Not my will but yours be done” — as it consists in the creature's positive affirmation: “It is my will that your will be done.”

(From: The ASB Bible - Matthew 12:50)
"For whoever does the will of My Father who is in heaven, he is My brother and sister and mother."

(From: Aaron - 12/5/04– the S.E. Idaho TeaM)
Indeed, you can know that you are in the will of God at any moment simply by the recognition that, you desiring to share your life with God, is the Father's will.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-117 Section-4)
God first loves man and confers upon him the potential of immortality — eternal reality. And as man loves God, so does man become eternal in actuality. And here is mystery: The more closely man approaches God through love, the greater the reality — actuality — of that man. The more man withdraws from God, the more nearly he approaches nonreality — cessation of existence. When man consecrates his will to the doing of the Father's will, when man gives God all that he has, then does God make that man more than he is.

(From: Socrates (469 BC - 399 BC)
The end of life is to be like God, and the soul following God will be like Him.

(From: The Book of Runes - #15)
Funding a will through action, yet unattached to outcomes, remaining mindful that all you can really do is stay out of your own way and let the Will of Heaven flow through you---these are among the hallmarks of the Spiritual Warrior.

If you want to let the Light shine in…

The topic of today's Sunday Service, #786, is Openness…

*******************************************
The Sermon
***********
Openness

It's a case of Open… and Closed.

Do you ever find yourself just off in your own little world… closed off to just about everything and everyone else?

Of Course! We do it all the time right?

For example, we do it when we are meditating (listening to God), praying (talking to God), doing our art (Creating with God)… But then at those times we are not actually closed and alone… Are we? Focused intently of course, but those all require a high degree of Openness… Openness to God, which of course takes care of the alone part as well… Openness to the flow of Creativity and Communion. In/Through/Out --- In/Through/Out… Those are good parts of our “own little world” right? There are Many different things that human beings enjoy doing alone in their “own little world” that do not necessarily equate to being closed off to all else.

But then anything can be taken to extremes if one is not careful… closing the door to interaction. I doubt that anyone is totally immune to those instances of being closed and alone… feeling cut off at some level to everyone… even to God. An ego wrestling with ego kinda thing. You really know you're in a vital Growth Phase when you find yourself locked in that kind of battle with yourself. It almost seems as if we Must experience those ego confrontations before a crucial cycle of Growth can be completed… as if it is the final piece of the equation that must be earned before… we are ready to be Open to Anything again… Open to the next phase of growth.

When we forget or ignore God in our life, it is as closed as closed can feel. When we are Open to God… within ourselves and within others… When we allow God to be an active partner in our lives… Then may we experience the level of Openness that is capable of transforming us into the persons we truly wish to be.

Openness

It's an Open and Closed Case.

Quotes

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-118 Section-6)
In the mortal life, paths of differential conduct are continually opening and closing, and during the times when choice is possible the human personality is constantly deciding between these many courses of action. Temporal volition is linked to time, and it must await the passing of time to find opportunity for expression. Spiritual volition has begun to taste liberation from the fetters of time, having achieved partial escape from time sequence, and that is because spiritual volition is self-identifying with the will of God.

(From: The RSV Bible - Matthew 20:33-34)
They said to him, "Lord, let our eyes be opened."
And Jesus in pity touched their eyes, and immediately they received their sight and followed him.

(From: Oprah Winfrey (1954 - ), Stanford Commencement Adress, 2008)
The world has so many lessons to teach you. I consider the world, our earth, to be like a school, and our life, the classrooms. Sometimes on our planet life school, the lessons often come dressed up as detours and road blocks and sometimes as full blown crises. And the secret I've learned to getting ahead is being open to the lessons.

(From:
Malcolm Forbes (1919 - 1990)

Education's purpose is to replace an empty mind with an open one.

(From: Terry Pratchett)
The trouble with having an open mind, of course, is that people will insist on coming along and trying to put things in it.

(From: Oprah Winfrey (1954 - ), Stanford Commencement Adress, 2008)
Walk through life eager and open to self-improvement and that which is going to best help you evolve, because that's really why were here: to evolve as human beings.

(From: Rainer Maria Rilke)
Make your ego porous. Will is of little importance, complaining is nothing, fame is nothing. Openness, patience, receptivity, solitude is everything.

(From: Robert Collier)
You can do anything you think you can. This knowledge is literally the gift of the gods, for through it you can solve every human problem. It should make of you an incurable optimist. It is the open door.

(From: Dr. Seuss (1904 - 1991), Seuss-isms)
Young cat, if you keep your eyes open enough, oh, the stuff you would learn! The most wonderful stuff!

(From: Henry Moore (1898 - 1986)
One never knows what each day is going to bring. The important thing is to be open and ready for it.

(From: Alexander Graham Bell (1847 - 1922)
When one door closes another door opens; but we often look so long and so regretfully upon the closed door, that we do not see the ones which open for us.

(From: Flora Whittemore)
The doors we open and close each day decide the lives we live.

(From: The ASB Bible - Luke 11:9-10)
"So I say to you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. "For everyone who asks, receives; and he who seeks, finds; and to him who knocks, it will be opened.

(From: Charles F. Kettering (1876 - 1958)
Where there is an open mind there will always be a frontier.

(From: Henry Miller (1891 - 1980)
Life has no other discipline to impose, if we would but realize it, than to accept life unquestioningly. Everything we shut our eyes to, everything we run away from, everything we deny, denigrate, or despise, serves to defeat us in the end. What seems nasty, painful, evil, can become a source of beauty, joy, and strength, if faced with an open mind. Every moment is a golden one for him who has the vision to recognize it as such.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-191 Section-5)
Let faith reveal your light to the world; let the revelation of truth open the eyes blinded by tradition; let your loving service effectually destroy the prejudice engendered by ignorance. By so drawing close to your fellow men in understanding sympathy and with unselfish devotion, you will lead them into a saving knowledge of the Father's love.

Quotes

(From:
John Stuart Mill (1806 - 1873)
No one can be a great thinker who does not recognize that as a thinker it is his first duty to follow his intellect to whatever conclusions it may lead. Truth gains more even by the errors of one who, with due study, and preparation, thinks for himself, than by the true opinions of those who only hold them because they do not suffer themselves to think.

(From: Harriet Martineau (1802 - 1876)
You better live your best and act your best and think your best today, for today is the sure preparation for tomorrow and all the other tomorrows that follow.

(From: Whitney Young Jr.)
It is better to be prepared for an opportunity and not have one than to have an opportunity and not be prepared.

(From: Alexander Graham Bell (1847 - 1922)
Before anything else, preparation is the key to success.

(From: Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803 - 1882)
People only see what they are prepared to see.

(From: Albert Szent-Gyorgyi (1893 - 1986)
A discovery is said to be an accident meeting a prepared mind.

(From:
Seneca (5 BC - 65 AD)

Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity.

(From: Louis Pasteur (1822 - 1895), lecture 1854)
In the field of observation, chance favors only the prepared mind.

(From: Abraham Lincoln (1809 - 1865)
I will prepare and some day my chance will come.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-131 Section-5)
Lord, teach us how to live this life in the flesh while preparing for the next life of the spirit. Speak to us, Lord, and we will do your bidding. Teach us the good paths, and we will go right

Preparation

Some Prepare for the worst.
Some Prepare for the best.
Some Prepare through study.
Some Prepare through trial and error.
Some Prepare with repetition.
Some Prepare with exercise.
Some Prepare the external.
Some Prepare the internal.
Some Prepare for death.
Some Prepare for life.
Some Prepare for this life.
Some Prepare for the next life.

None have exclusive value…
None are without value…
It's all good.
Combined their value increases.

What works well for one, may not work at all for another.

Preparing yourself for this life is essential.
Is not preparing yourself for the Next Life equally if not more so?

Are you Prepared?

Frightening to some…

The topic of today's Sunday Service, #788, is Adventure…

Quotes

(From:
G. K. Chesterton (1874 - 1936)
An adventure is only an inconvenience rightly considered. An inconvenience is an adventure wrongly considered.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-14 Section-5)
Love of adventure, curiosity, and dread of monotony — these traits inherent in evolving human nature — were not put there just to aggravate and annoy you during your short sojourn on earth, but rather to suggest to you that death is only the beginning of an endless career of adventure, an everlasting life of anticipation, an eternal voyage of discovery.

(From: Oprah Winfrey (1954 - ), O Magazine)
The biggest adventure you can ever take is to live the life of your dreams.

(From: Annie Besant)
Never forget that life can only be nobly inspired and rightly lived if you take it bravely and gallantly, as a splendid adventure in which you are setting out into an unknown country, to meet many a joy, to find many a comrade, to win and lose many a battle.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-160 Section-4)
Failure is simply an educational episode — a cultural experiment in the acquirement of wisdom — in the experience of the God-seeking man who has embarked on the eternal adventure of the exploration of a universe. To such men defeat is but a new tool for the achievement of higher levels of universe reality.

(From: Andre Gide (1869 - 1951)
It is only in adventure that some people succeed in knowing themselves - in finding themselves.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-5 Section-1)
The great God makes direct contact with mortal man and gives a part of his infinite and eternal and incomprehensible self to live and dwell within him. God has embarked upon the eternal adventure with man. If you yield to the leadings of the spiritual forces in you and around you, you cannot fail to attain the high destiny established by a loving God as the universe goal of his ascendant creatures from the evolutionary worlds of space.

(From: Helen Keller (1880 - 1968)
Life is either a daring adventure or nothing. Security does not exist in nature, nor do the children of men as a whole experience it. Avoiding danger is no safer in the long run than exposure.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-155 Section-5)
Tradition is a safe refuge and an easy path for those fearful and halfhearted souls who instinctively shun the spirit struggles and mental uncertainties associated with those faith voyages of daring adventure out upon the high seas of unexplored truth in search for the farther shores of spiritual realities as they may be discovered by the progressive human mind and experienced by the evolving human soul.

(From: Alfred North Whitehead (1861 - 1947)
The vitality of thought is in adventure. Ideas won't keep. Something must be done about them.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-155 Section-6)
Never forget there is only one adventure which is more satisfying and thrilling than the attempt to discover the will of the living God, and that is the supreme experience of honestly trying to do that divine will. And fail not to remember that the will of God can be done in any earthly occupation. Some callings are not holy and others secular. All things are sacred in the lives of those who are spirit led; that is, subordinated to truth, ennobled by love, dominated by mercy, and restrained by fairness — justice.

(From: Robert Louis Stevenson (1850 - 1894)
The most beautiful adventures are not those we go to seek.

*******************************************

To discover Truth…
To witness Beauty…
To experience Love…
To find God…
That is the True Goal of Life.
