I was thinking about how a status symbol of today is those cell phones that everyone has clipped onto their belt or purse. I seldom need one. So, I'm wearing my garage door opener. I also made a cover for my hearing aid and now I have what they call blue teeth, I think.

(from: “Ramblings of a Retired Mind” - received from Minister Angus Bowen)

(From:
Anatole France)
“The whole art of teaching is only the art of awakening the natural curiosity of young minds for the purpose of satisfying it afterwards.”

(From: Albert Einstein)
“It is the supreme art of the teacher to awaken joy in creative expression and knowledge.”

(From: Antoine de Saint-Exupery)
“A single event can awaken within us a stranger totally unknown to us. To live is to be slowly born.”

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-100 Section-2)
Spiritual growth is first an awakening to needs, next a discernment of meanings, and then a discovery of values. The evidence of true spiritual development consists in the exhibition of a human personality motivated by love, activated by unselfish ministry, and dominated by the wholehearted worship of the perfection ideals of divinity. And this entire experience constitutes the reality of religion as contrasted with mere theological beliefs.

(From: Carl Jung)
“Your vision will become clear only when you look into your heart. Who looks outside, dreams. Who looks inside, awakens.”

(From: William James)
“No human being ever learns to live until he has awakened to the dormant powers within him”

(From: Albert Camus)
“When you have once seen the glow of happiness on the face of a beloved person, you know that a man can have no vocation but to awaken that light on the faces surrounding him;”

(From: Dante Alighieri)
“Beauty awakens the soul to act.”

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-195 Section-9)
What an awakening the world would experience if it could only see Jesus as he really lived on earth and know, firsthand, his life-giving teachings! Descriptive words of things beautiful cannot thrill like the sight thereof, neither can creedal words inspire men's souls like the experience of knowing the presence of God. But expectant faith will ever keep the hope-door of man's soul open for the entrance of the eternal spiritual realities of the divine values of the worlds beyond.

(From: Adrienne Rich)
“It's exhilarating to be alive in a time of awakening consciousness; it can also be confusing, disorienting, and painful.”

(From: Buddha (Prince Gautama Siddharta, founder of Buddhism, 563-483 B.C.)
“Follow then the shining ones, the wise, the awakened, the loving, for they know how to work and forbear.”

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-188 Section-5)
Jesus loves men so much that his love awakens the response of love in the human heart. Love is truly contagious and eternally creative.

Are You Truly Awake?

What is it that Awakens you... that really makes you feel Alive and Motivated?
It is most certainly Many different things, to many different people... would you not say?

There is of course the Daily Awakening to the surroundings and the needs/desires of Living for the day... Pretty much the one we all share, until of course that day we Awaken in the next world.

The child Awakens to a day of Unlimited Possibilities... New Experiences, New Understandings, New Discoveries. Unless of course the child is living in fear or despair or hunger...

The adult often Awakens to a day of numerous Responsibilities, but also occasional Opportunities... the Newness of Life perhaps worn off somewhat, but still aware of the fact that Life is what you make of it. Unless of course the adult is living in fear or despair or enslaved by the daily demands of survival...

The aged perchance Awaken satisfied to have made it one more day. Unless of course the elder is living in fear or despair or extreme pain...

Are You Truly Awake?

Knowledge helps one to Awaken...
Understanding even more so...
Wisdom to an even greater extent...
But Love... Love is the Greatest Awakener.
Love makes you Want to be Awake... to be Awakened.

Love Awakens Anticipation...
Love Awakens Possibility...
Love Awakens Hope...
Love Awakens Optimism...
Love Awakens Faith...
Love Awakens Your Dreams.

Love Awakens Passion...
Love Awakens Compassion...
Love Awakens Kindness...
Love Awakens Sympathy...
Love Awakens Empathy...
Love Awakens Brotherhood.

God is Love... God is the Greatest Awakener!

Are you Living in Love?
Are You Truly Awakened?

“Except you become as a little child, you shall not enter the kingdom.”

Awaken like the Child... God's Child.

You Are That!

Quotes

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-1 Section-6)
The more completely man understands himself and appreciates the personality values of his fellows, the more he will crave to know the Original Personality, and the more earnestly such a God-knowing human will strive to become like the Original Personality. You can argue over opinions about God, but experience with him and in him exists above and beyond all human controversy and mere intellectual logic. The God-knowing man describes his spiritual experiences, not to convince unbelievers, but for the edification and mutual satisfaction of believers.

(From: Kanye West)
If you have the opportunity to play this game of life you need to appreciate every moment. A lot of people don't appreciate the moment until it's passed.

(From:
Elizabeth Aston)

It is a sadness of growing older that we lose our ardent appreciation of what is new and different and difficult.

(From: Barbra Streisand (1942 - ), The Concert, 1994)
My idea of a perfect world is one in which we appreciate each other's differences; one in which we are all equal but definitely not the same.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-47 Section-6)
A new social order is being introduced, one based on the understanding sympathy of mutual appreciation, the unselfish love of mutual service, and the overmastering motivation of the realization of a common and supreme destiny

(From: Voltaire (1694 - 1778        )
Appreciation is a wonderful thing: It makes what is excellent in others belong to us as well.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-160 Section-2)
Many noble human impulses die because there is no one to hear their expression. Truly, it is not good for man to be alone. Some degree of recognition and a certain amount of appreciation are essential to the development of human character.

(From: Margaret Cousins)
Appreciation can make a day, even change a life. Your willingness to put it into words is all that is necessary.

(From: Christiane Northrup, M.D.)
Feeling grateful to or appreciative of someone or something in your life actually attracts more of the things that you appreciate and value into your life.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-100 Section-1)
Growth is not truly indicated by mere products but rather by progress. Real educational growth is indicated by enhancement of ideals, increased appreciation of values, new meanings of values, and augmented loyalty to supreme values.

(From: Carl Jung (1875 - 1961)
An understanding heart is everything in a teacher, and cannot be esteemed highly enough. One looks back with appreciation to the brilliant teachers, but with gratitude to those who touched our human feeling. The curriculum is so much necessary raw material, but warmth is the vital element for the growing plant and for the soul of the child.

(From: Dale Carnegie)
You have it easily in your power to increase the sum total of this world's happiness now. How? By giving a few words of sincere appreciation to someone who is lonely or is discouraged. Perhaps you will forget tomorrow the kind words you say today, but the recipient may cherish them over a lifetime.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-91 Section-8)
God answers man's prayer by giving him an increased revelation of truth, an enhanced appreciation of beauty, and an augmented concept of goodness. Prayer is a subjective gesture, but it contacts with mighty objective realities on the spiritual levels of human experience; it is a meaningful reach by the human for superhuman values.

(From: Anne-Sophie Swetchine)
Providence has hidden a charm in difficult undertakings which is appreciated only by those who dare to grapple with them.

Appreciation

We all Want it...
We all Need it...
We all Deserve it.

How good are we at giving it...
How good are we at showing it...
How good are we at expressing it toward others?

Is it easy for you to show Appreciation to others?
Is it difficult?
Do you ever knowingly withhold it?

Do you feel Appreciated?
Do you feel Under-Appreciated ?
Does it ever effect how much Appreciation you give?
Should it?

Just something to think about for us all...

(From:
Melody Beattie)
Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos to order, confusion to clarity. It can turn a meal into a feast, a house into a home, a stranger into a friend. Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today, and creates a vision for tomorrow.

(From:
Charles E. Jefferson (1860 - 1937)

Gratitude is born in hearts that take time to count up past mercies.

(From: The RSV Bible - Hebrews 12:28)
Therefore let us be grateful for receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, and thus let us offer to God acceptable worship, with reverence and awe

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-91 Section-8)
To some individuals prayer is the calm expression of gratitude; to others, a group expression of praise, social devotions; sometimes it is the imitation of another's religion, while in true praying it is the sincere and trusting communication of the spiritual nature of the creature with the anywhere presence of the spirit of the Creator.

(From: Eileen Caddy)
“Gratitude helps you to grow and expand; gratitude brings joy and laughter into your life and into the lives of all those around you.”

(From: John Milton)
“Gratitude bestows reverence, allowing us to encounter everyday epiphanies, those transcendent moments of awe that change forever how we experience life and the world.”

(From: Albert Schweitzer (1875 - 1965)
“To educate yourself for the feeling of gratitude means to take nothing for granted, but to always seek out and value the kindness that stands behind the action. Nothing that is done for you is a matter of course. Everything originates in a will for it”

(From: John Fitzgerald Kennedy)
“As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them.”

The Sermon
***********
The linking of the term Gratitude with Anything resembling an inference that somehow something is owed to another, or is in any way a payment for some debt of one sort or another, is truly an unfortunate and yes, inaccurate and presumptuous perception.

Gratitude is Never a payback. “A Debt of Gratitude” ...Really?? What an obscene way to define the beautiful thing that true and genuine Gratitude is!

Gratitude can include words that try to give a verbal expression to it, yet words alone are insufficient to convey Authentic Gratitude... and in reality works aren't even truly necessary at all for the expression of Gratitude.

Gratitude is a feeling of loving gratefulness that emanates from within. When you Feel Gratitude, your attitude gets an adjustment and your overall demeanor compensates in harmony. You know that feeling... Right? It is a Good feeling to Have Gratitude for something, a Good feeling to observe Gratitude in another, and a good feeling to receive Gratitude for something loving and kindhearted that you have done.

As universally appreciated as Genuine Gratitude is from both the giving and receiving side, why would anyone ever want to purposefully withhold it for any reason? Doesn't make sense, does it? ...what would be a good reason for That???

Expecting Gratitude from someone for something rarely results in a satisfactory outcome. Only when Gratitude is spontaneous and free does it truly provide the joy and gratification that gives it its' greatest value.

Though we as human beings may sometimes be unaware or unconscious of a loving selfless thing that another may do for us, there is One who Always notices and Who is Always Grateful for the Loving things we do for one another no matter how big, no matter how small they may appear to be.

Gratitude is an experience, an expression, an encounter with Love... an attunement with God.

During the minister's prayer one Sunday, there was a loud whistle from one of the back pews. Tommy's mother was horrified. She pinched him into silence and, after church, asked, "Tommy, whatever made you do such a thing?"

Tommy answered soberly, "I asked God to teach me to whistle, and He did!"

Religious insight possesses the power of turning defeat into higher desires and new determinations. Love is the highest motivation which man may utilize in his universe ascent.

(From:
Vince Lombardi)

“The price of success is hard work, dedication to the job at hand, and the determination that whether we win or lose, we have applied the best of ourselves to the task at hand.”

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-155 Section-5)
The religion of the spirit means effort, struggle, conflict, faith, determination, love, loyalty, and progress.

(From: Tommy Lasorda)
“The difference between the possible and the impossible lies in a person's determination.”

(From: Buddha)
“Those who really seek the path to Enlightenment dictate terms to their mind. Then they proceed with strong determination.”

(From: Mahatma Gandhi)
“Exercise of faith will be the safest where there is a clear determination summarily to reject all that is contrary to truth and love”

(From: Colin Powell)
“A dream doesn't become reality through magic; it takes sweat, determination and hard work.”

(From: Thomas Fuller)
“An invincible determination can accomplish almost anything and in this lies the great distinction between great men and little men.”

(From: James Whitcomb Riley)
“The most essential factor is persistence - the determination never to allow your energy or enthusiasm to be dampened by the discouragement that must inevitably come.”

(From: Horace Mann)
“Let us not be content to wait and see what will happen, but give us the determination to make the right things happen.”

“Success means having the courage, the determination, and the will to become the person you believe you were meant to be”

“If you set goals and go after them with all the determination you can muster, your gifts will take you places that will amaze you.”

(From: J. Donald Walters)
“The secret of happiness is the determination to be happy always, rather than wait for outer circumstances to make one happy.”

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-196 Section-3)
Religion is man's supreme gesture, his magnificent reach for final reality, his determination to find God and to be like him.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-100 Section-6)
The marks of human response to the religious impulse embrace the qualities of nobility and grandeur. The sincere religionist is conscious of universe citizenship and is aware of making contact with sources of superhuman power. He is thrilled and energized with the assurance of belonging to a superior and ennobled fellowship of the sons of God. The consciousness of self-worth has become augmented by the stimulus of the quest for the highest universe objectives—supreme goals.
The self has surrendered to the intriguing drive of an all-encompassing motivation which imposes heightened self-discipline, lessens emotional conflict, and makes mortal life truly worth living. The morbid recognition of human limitations is changed to the natural consciousness of mortal shortcomings, associated with moral determination and spiritual aspiration to attain the highest universe and superuniverse goals. And this intense striving for the attainment of supermortal ideals is always characterized by increasing patience, forbearance, fortitude, and tolerance.
