I am prepared to meet my Maker. Whether my Maker is prepared for the great ordeal of meeting me is another matter.

Greetings my Beloved Sisters and Brothers, and welcome once again to the Church that is Within. You are the Temple. You are the Congregation. Any and All Truth is the Gospel. The Divine Spirit within you is your True Minister.

Perhaps it is time to...

The topic of today's Sunday Service, #889, is Prepare…

*******************************************
The Sermon
***********
One of my very Favorite things to do in this world is to Prepare food. Thanksgiving Dinner is a Blast for me!!!

At first I thought I was going to next write, “But that is not what today's Topic is about.” Then I considered all of the ingredients and planning and steps that go into preparing a meal and I thought, “Yeah, that Is what today's Topic, 'Prepare' is all about!” Preparing food? No, not necessarily. Preparing in General!

Yet consider... Even if one was already Prepared enough that they have all of the essential cooking appliances and utensils (the 'over time' acquirement of which is in itself an example of what it means to Prepare), there is still a significant amount of planning and Preparation that goes into making a big meal.

There is the Menu Preparation. What will you serve and how many will you be serving? Now a lot of cooks will already have on hand most or many or at least some of the different component they need to make the meal due to previous preparations, but even so, a considerable number of different ingredients will need to be acquired for the Preparation of the meal.

One will need to Prepare a shopping list. “I already have That... do I have enough of it?” During the Preparing of the meal you don't want to be without something you really need. It may require 10 different things just to make one of the numerous dishes. Shopping is Preparing as Well. “While I'm here, did I forget anything?”

OK! You have Everything you need to Prepare the Dinner! You remember the Scout Motto... “Be Prepared!” and you Are! You are Prepared to Prepare to Prepare... because of course you must still Prepare the cooking area/kitchen... getting everything in place so that Preparing the food will go smoothly. What needs to be where and when so that everything will be ready at the proper time?

Prep Time! Wash, slice, dice, chop, puree, parboil, precook... the list goes on...

Finally!! After all that Preparation it is time to Prepare the Feast! What do I need to do first? What do I need to do last? How can I make the best use of my time? Watch this, stir that, time for this to go in, needs a little of that still...

Ah! It is Finished! Everything is ready to Serve! It Looks and Smells and Tastes Great! Thank Goodness I had done all of that Preparing! “Dear God, I Hope they Like it!”
[Hopefully there was someone else preparing the dining area...]

Everything went well! They Enjoyed it and so did I!! All of the Preparation necessary to Prepare for that one hour of enjoyment was worth it!!

Cleanup is Preparing to do it again. (My least favorite part ;-)

Is not Life itself perhaps very much like a restaurant? A continual process of Preparation and Preparing?

Maybe not...
Maybe So!

[ed: Those of you who cook will most likely quickly get the point of this “Parable” ...and those of you who do not... well, perhaps you may already have begun comparing it to other Preparation procedures that are more relevant/meaningful to you.]

How do you Prepare for Life?
How do you Prepare for Life After This Life?

Do you?
Are you Prepared?
Are you Preparing Enough?
Just a thought...

(From: The Book of Runes -#16 Reversed )

Events, or more likely, aspects of character interfere with the growth of new life. You may feel dismay at failing to take right action. But rather than dismay, what is called for is diligence. Examine what has occurred, your role in it, your needs, the needs of others. Are you placing your wants before the needs of others? Strip away until you can identify the obstacles to growth in this situation. Then, penetrating gently, imitate the wind.
You may be required to fertilize the ground again, but through correct preparation, growth is assured.

“Life in the Father's eternal creation is not an endless rest of idleness and selfish ease but rather a ceaseless progression in grace, truth, and glory. Each of the many, many stations in my Father's house is a stopping place, a life designed to prepare you for the next one ahead. And so will the children of light go on from glory to glory until they attain the divine estate wherein they are spiritually perfected even as the Father is perfect in all things.

(From: The ASB Bible - John 14:2-4)
"In My Father's house are many dwelling places; if it were not so, I would have told you; for I go to prepare a place for you. "If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself, that where I am, there you may be also. "And you know the way where I am going."

The topic of today's Sunday Service, #890, is Experience…

*******************************************
The Sermon
***********
Experience is our Teacher.

In the short term, we have a tendency to view our Experiences as Good Experiences or as bad Experiences. Human Beings quite naturally are inclined to categorize their Experiences of Joy, Happiness, Pleasure and Satisfaction as “Good Experiences” and their Experiences of pain, suffering, distress or sorrow as “Bad Experiences.”

In the long term, a Good Experience is one that we learn and grow and gain maturity and wisdom from, and a 'so called' Bad Experience is one that we choose Not to learn and grow and gain maturity and wisdom from. We always have a choice between the two... and the unavoidable obligation to make it. We may make that choice on the spur of the moment ruled by our present emotions or we might postpone it so that we can assess and evaluate it more fully. Often it requires a succession or accumulation of different (though essentially related) Experiences in order to learn the bigger most Important lessons of life.

If we ever find that we have let our ego or our pride make the wrong or lesser choice about our Experiences, we can always choose to change our perspective and transform it into a Good Experience. It is usually a difficult choice to make, but it is a courageous choice... a heroic choice, and the Experience of making it can be and usually is, transforming.

Experience... choose wisely!

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-101 Section-8)
Belief is always limiting and binding; faith is expanding and releasing. Belief fixates, faith liberates. But living religious faith is more than the association of noble beliefs; it is more than an exalted system of philosophy; it is a living experience concerned with spiritual meanings, divine ideals, and supreme values; it is God-knowing and man-serving.

(From: John Stuart Mill (1806 - 1873 )
There are many truths by which the full meaning cannot be realized until personal experience has brought it home.

(From: Aldous Huxley (1894 - 1963 )
Experience teaches only the teachable.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-111 Section-6)
A human being can find truth in his inner experience, but he needs a clear knowledge of facts to apply his personal discovery of truth to the ruthlessly practical demands of everyday life.

(From: Eleanor Roosevelt (1884 - 1962 )
The purpose of life is to live it, to taste experience to the utmost, to reach out eagerly and without fear for newer and richer experience.

(From: Ling Po, (701-762 )
He who neglects to drink from the spring of experience is likely to die of thirst in the desert of ignorance.

(From: Auguste Rodin (1840 - 1917 )
Nothing is a waste of time if you use the experience wisely.

(From: e e cummings (1894 - 1962 )
Once we believe in ourselves, we can risk curiosity, wonder, spontaneous delight, or any experience that reveals the human spirit.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-12 Section-9)
Spirit is the basic personal reality in the universes, and personality is basic to all progressing experience with spiritual reality. Every phase of personality experience on every successive level of universe progression swarms with clues to the discovery of alluring personal realities.

(From: C. S. Lewis (1898 - 1963 )
I have found a desire within myself that no experience in this world can satisfy; the most probable explanation is that I was made for another world.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-102 Section-4)
Man very early becomes conscious that he is not alone in the world or the universe. There develops a natural spontaneous self-consciousness of other-mindness in the environment of selfhood. Faith translates this natural experience into religion, the recognition of God as the reality--source, nature, and destiny--of other-mindness. But such a knowledge of God is ever and always a reality of personal experience.

(From: Denis Waitley )
Happiness is the spiritual experience of living every minute with love, grace and gratitude.

(From: Socrates (469 BC - 399 BC )
all human virtues increase and strengthen themselves by the practice and experience of them.

(From: Solonia 5/5/04 – the Faith Garden TeaM)
God's Word is available for all to hear and to experience. Recognizing it as such, is the beginning of a more mature Wisdom. How is it that you know in your heart the difference between wrong and right, right and better, better and Best? It is God's Word that allows you to know, and then it is upon you to make choices to incorporate His Word into your life.

(From: Albert Einstein (1879 - 1955 )
The most beautiful thing we can experience is the mysterious. It is the source of all true art and science.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-99 Section-5)
Modern men have thought out many creeds and created many tests of religious faith. Future religionists must live out their religion, dedicate themselves to the wholehearted service of the brotherhood of man. It is high time that man had a religious experience so personal and so sublime that it could be realized and expressed only by "feelings that lie too deep for words."

(From: William E. Channing )
Nothing which has entered into our experience is ever lost.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-132 Section-2)
“An experience is good when it heightens the appreciation of beauty, augments the moral will, enhances the discernment of truth, enlarges the capacity to love and serve one's fellows, exalts the spiritual ideals, and unifies the supreme human motives of time with the eternal plans of the indwelling Adjuster” [God within us/the still small voice]

[ed: Not funny but Oh so True!]
Even in literature and art, no man who bothers about originality will ever be original: whereas if you simply try to tell the truth (without caring twopence how often it has been told before) you will, nine times out of ten, become original without ever having noticed it.
C. S. Lewis (1898 - 1963) [Correction to previous “Not funny but Oh so True” editorial: If you are Truly an Artist... then this is indeed rather funny]

Quotes

(From: “Jesus” - The Urantia Book - Paper-164 Section-1)
Said Jesus: "A certain man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and he fell into the hands of cruel brigands, who robbed him, stripped him and beat him, and departing, left him half dead. Very soon, by chance, a certain priest was going down that way, and when he came upon the wounded man, seeing his sorry plight, he passed by on the other side of the road. And in like manner a Levite also, when he came along and saw the man, passed by on the other side. Now, about this time, a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed down to Jericho, came across this wounded man; and when he saw how he had been robbed and beaten, he was moved with compassion, and going over to him, he bound up his wounds, pouring on oil and wine, and setting the man upon his own beast, brought him here to the inn and took care of him. And on the morrow he took out some money and, giving it to the host, said: `Take good care of my friend, and if the expense is more, when I come back again, I will repay you.' Now let me ask you: Which of these three turned out to be the neighbor of him who fell among the robbers?" And when the lawyer perceived that he had fallen into his own snare, he answered, "He who showed mercy on him." And Jesus said, "Go and do likewise."

(From: The Tao Te Ching - #13 )
See the world as your self.
Have faith in the way things are.
Love the world as your self;
then you can care for all things.

(From: Joan Boysenko, Pocketful of Miracles)
If our actions stem from honesty, kindness, caring, and vision, then no matter what the result of our efforts, we have added something of value to our souls and to the world.

(From: Leo Buscaglia (1925 - 1998 )
Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around.

(From: Rabbi Harold Kushner)
Caring about others, running the risk of feeling, and leaving an impact on people, brings happiness.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-131 Section-4)
"God is the sure refuge of every good man when in need; the Immortal One cares for all mankind. God's salvation is strong and his kindness is gracious. He is a loving protector, a blessed defender. Says the Lord: `I dwell within their own souls as a lamp of wisdom. I am the splendor of the splendid and the goodness of the good. Where two or three gather together, there am I also.' The creature cannot escape the presence of the Creator.

(From: The Tao Te Ching - #51 )
Every being in the universe
is an expression of the Tao.
It springs into existence,
unconscious, perfect, free,
takes on a physical body,
lets circumstances complete it.
That is why every being
spontaneously honors the Tao.

The Tao gives birth to all beings,
nourishes them, maintains them,
cares for them, comforts them, protects them,
takes them back to itself,
creating without possessing,
acting without expecting,
guiding without interfering.
That is why love of the Tao
is in the very nature of things.

(From: Jennifer Hudson )
Loving yourself means caring enough to make the hard decisions in your life.

(From: Kirby Larson, Hattie Big Sky, 2006 )
The lessons this life has planted in my heart pertain more to caring than crops, more to Golden Rule than gold, more to the proper choice than to the popular choice.

The Sermon
***********
I Love this time of year. It isn't so much the change of seasons on the material level of our existence, as it is that People have a tendency to be, or at least seem to be, more Caring during these times of giving thanks and of gift giving, don't you think?

Do you think of yourself as a caring person?

Don't you love it when you see people being Caring to others? Caring for, Caring about... other people, each other, their families... about Goodness. It often brings a tear to my eyes, doesn't it yours? It's almost like seeing God in action working Through them. Hmmm... perhaps it actually IS seeing God in action working Through them. But then that would mean... when we Ourselves are being Caring and Loving and Compassionate that... God was working through us as Well, wouldn't it?

Do you ever feel that connection with God when you are Caring or being Caring? You know, that little spark of Love feeling? When you are Caring, you just feel Good, you feel Love... do you not?

Do you feel like you are Caring enough? Do you think that you could be more Caring than you already are? What would it take really? A little more Love? A little more Compassion? Hey! Who couldn't use a little more of Those in their life, right?

Caring... 'tis the Season!

Quotes
*******
(From: The Book of Runes -#6 - Initiation / Something Hidden / A Secret Matter )

A counsel against expecting too much, or expecting in the ordinary way, for the old way has come to an end. You simply cannot repeat the old and not suffer. Call in your scattered energies, concentrate on your own life at this moment, your own requirements for growth. More important, Perth counsels you not to focus on outcomes, nor to bind yourself with the memory of past achievement. In so doing, you rob yourself of a true present, which is the only time in which self-change can be realized.

(From: The Tao Te Ching - #15 )
The Master doesn't seek fulfillment.
Not seeking, not expecting,
she is present, and can welcome all things.

(From: “Jesus” - The Urantia Book - Paper-192 Section-2)
Then said Jesus: “If, therefore, you serve me with a whole heart, make sure that you are devoted to the welfare of my brethren on earth with tireless affection. Admix friendship with your counsel and add love to your philosophy. Serve your fellow men even as I have served you. Be faithful to men as I have watched over you. Be less critical; expect less of some men and thereby lessen the extent of your disappointment.”

(From: The Tao Te Ching - #55 )
The Master's power is like this.
He lets all things come and go
effortlessly, without desire.
He never expects results;
thus he is never disappointed.
He is never disappointed;
thus his spirit never grows old.

(From: Steve Jobs (1955 - 2011 )
Almost everything--all external expectations, all pride, all fear of embarrassment or failure--these things just fall away in the face of death, leaving only what is truly important. Remembering that you are going to die is the best way I know to avoid the trap of thinking you have something to lose. You are already naked. There is no reason not to follow your heart.

(From: The Tao Te Ching - #10 )
Giving birth and nourishing,
having without possessing,
acting with no expectations,
leading and not trying to control:
this is the supreme virtue.

(From: Diana Spencer )
Carry out a random act of kindness, with no expectation of reward, safe in the knowledge that one day someone might do the same for you.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-91 Section-4)
Remember, even if prayer does not change God, it very often effects great and lasting changes in the one who prays in faith and confident expectation. Prayer has been the ancestor of much peace of mind, cheerfulness, calmness, courage, self-mastery, and fair-mindedness in the men and women of the evolving races.

The Sermon
***********
Expectations...

Do you Expect too much of yourself or too little?

Our Personal Expectations can draw us forward and onward if we allow them to. Great Expectations for ones self can lead to great and often unExpected outcomes. It is only when we attempt to define and control and limit the outcomes of our Expectations that we court disappointment.

The child Expects Everything and is rewarded by those Expectations far more often than disappointed by them. But then the child looks at everything with fresh eyes and with unlimited enthusiasm and hope and faith. A child seldom knows what to Expect and can therefore enjoy the surprises that their Expectations may lead to.

Do you remember that child or have disappointed Expectations made you forget? Do you get disappointed when your Expectations unfold differently than you Expected they should?

Remember the child.

Do you Expect too much of others... or too little?

Why on earth would we have specific Expectations of others any more than we would want them to have circumscribed Expectations for us... Right? And yet we each do have certain Expectations that we assign to others, do we not? Why is that do you think? Did others have particular Expectations of us that we didn't live up to? Did we have specific Expectations of ourselves that we didn't achieve? Do we have different Expectations for some people than for others? Do we think that another's Expectations for themselves should be the same as our Expectations for our Own selves? I don't have all the right answers here... do you?

I think we should always Expect the best, and then let God decide what Is best (knowing full well that what we think is best doesn't always coincide with what God Knows is best) ...don't you?

Expectations...

Friend or foe?

*******************************************
