Welcome by: Pastor Daniel
************************
Greetings my Beloved Sisters and Brothers, and welcome once again to the Church that is Within.

I would very much like to Thank Minister Jill for doing Today's Sunday Service!

Besides it's being an Exceptional message, the break gave me time to cut and haul another cord of wood for heat this coming Winter.

The topic of today's Sunday Service, #418, is Divine Assurance.

Quotes
*******
(From: The KJV Bible – Isaiah 32:17)

And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance forever.

(From: Jesonna – 12-12-1999 – The North Idaho TeaM)
Always remember that the Father is instantly in touch and constantly in touch with you… The Father lacks distance in which to send His greetings to you, for He, as your Father, is right where you are. The reach you make to God is a reach that is, in reality, over a distance of zero. This should bring great assurance to all of us during our times of trial, for our guidance is so close that in our search for truth, for reality, for solution to trials, we need not spend a great length of time also seeking our guidance. Your guidance is resident; it is already installed through your decision to do the will of the Father.

(From: The RSV Bible – Hebrews 11:1)
Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.

(From: Lantarnek – 11/9/97 – The Spokane TeaM)
When the Father initiated the creation of the universe He established principles through which all things operate in harmony to fulfill His purpose. You can count on, with assurance, continuation of the universe scheme because it is designed and conforms to these principles. When you encounter the crossroads of choice, assurance can be had in your moments of doubt by faith-grasping the long-lasting qualities of the principles the Father has established by which reality configures itself.

(From: Abraham – 10/20/2002 – The Woods Cross TeaM)
Divine assurance helps us to recognize the ongoing growth and the comfort that we are never stuck or without choice. Self-mastery is for the most part about embracing all that is true, beautiful and good. It is about committing to living the divine life, not just talking about it, studying about it or wishing for it, but truly striving to become that which God would have you be.

(From: Abraham –10/20/2002 – The Woods Cross TeaM)
To be committed to serving the Father out of pure love for Him is to broaden your horizons far beyond what you thought possible. This is where we find our assurance that God is with us in all we do. He knows our struggles, heartaches, concerns and desires. In the assurance we become working partners with our divine Parents. Working together, not like perhaps a typical earth family, where a child may do something pleasing in the parents' eyes for additional privileges, but truly enhanced spiritual power is yours because you are co-working with the Father. Truly it is natural and attainable for all.

(From: The Urantia Papers – Paper 196 – Section-0)
The faith of Jesus attained the purity of a child's trust. His faith was so absolute and undoubting that it responded to the charm of the contact of fellow beings and to the wonders of the universe. His sense of dependence on the divine was so complete and so confident that it yielded the joy and the assurance of absolute personal security. There was no hesitating pretense in his religious experience. In this giant intellect of the full-grown man the faith of the child reigned supreme in all matters relating to the religious consciousness. It is not strange that he once said, "Except you become as a little child, you shall not enter the kingdom." Notwithstanding that Jesus' faith was childlike, it was in no sense childish.

(From: The Urantia Papers – Paper 181 – Section-1)
The peace of Jesus is, then, the peace and assurance of a son who fully believes that his career for time and eternity is safely and wholly in the care and keeping of an all-wise, all-loving, and all-powerful spirit Father. And this is, indeed, a peace which passes the understanding of mortal mind, but which can be enjoyed to the full by the believing human heart.

*******************************************
The Sermon
***********
With Divine Assurance being the topic of my sermon today, I encourage you to visit our website ( http://www.churchwithin.org/artwork.html ) and view Pastor Daniel's wood sculpture “Assurance.” It truly depicts Divine Assurance—God's hand reaching down from Heaven and grasping the uplifted hand of his child (each of us) reaching up to him in faith. May it inspire your personal experience of Divine Assurance.

Divine Assurance.
It is ours to claim. It is our faith manifested.

Divine Assurance.
It is ours to claim. It gives us inner peace when all around us is in turmoil.

Divine Assurance.
It is ours to claim. It gives us the knowingness that we are all God's children and loved equally.

Divine Assurance.
It is ours to claim. It inspires us to be loving, kind, and caring to all our brothers and sisters.

Divine Assurance.
It is ours to claim. It reminds us that we are never alone, even in our darkest hours.

Divine Assurance.
It is ours to claim. It confirms for us that we have eternal life.

Divine Assurance.
It is ours to claim.

Have you claimed Divine Assurance in your life?

*******************************************
The Prayer
**********
Dear God,

Help us all to claim and embrace your Divine Assurance so we may live in peace: inner peace, and peace within our families, our communities, our nations, and our world. Your Will be done.
Amen

May we each find True Inner Peace through claiming His Divine Assurance,
Minister Jill

Greetings my Beloved Sisters and Brothers, and welcome once again to the Church that is Within.

My own personal experience of God can in no way invalidate the personal experience of God by any other. Neither can the personal experience of God by any other, invalidate my own.

The topic of today's Sunday Service, #419, is Experiencing God (or as Jesus put it: “Our Father”)…

********************************************
Quotes
*******
(From: Sophy Burnham)
To believe in God or in a guiding force because someone tells you to is the height of stupidity. We are given senses to receive our information within. With our own eyes we see, and with our own skin we feel. With our intelligence, it is intended that we understand. But each person must puzzle it out for himself or herself.

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-1 Section-2)
The existence of God can never be proved by scientific experiment or by the pure reason of logical deduction. God can be realized only in the realms of human experience; nevertheless, the true concept of the reality of God is reasonable to logic, plausible to philosophy, essential to religion, and indispensable to any hope of personality survival.
Those who know God have experienced the fact of his presence; such God-knowing mortals hold in their personal experience the only positive proof of the existence of the living God which one human being can offer to another. The existence of God is utterly beyond all possibility of demonstration except for the contact between the God-consciousness of the human mind and the God-presence of the Thought Adjuster that indwells the mortal intellect and is bestowed upon man as the free gift of the Universal Father.

(From: Tina Turner)
The real power behind whatever success I have now was something I found within myself - something that's in all of us, I think, a little piece of God just waiting to be discovered.

(From: Epictetus (55 AD - 135 AD)
When you close your doors, and make darkness within, remember never to say that you are alone, for you are not alone; nay, God is within, and your genius is within.

(From: Brenda Ueland)
Think of yourself as an incandescent power, illuminated and perhaps forever talked to by God and his messengers.

(From: Seneca (5 BC - 65 AD)
Live among men as if God beheld you; speak to God as if men were listening.

(From: Joel S. Goldsmith)
God must become an activity in our consciousness.

(From: Lantarnek - 9/26/04 – The North Idaho TeaM)
It is Fathers' will to experience your conditions, your qualities, to merge in the experience of life with you, even As you. While the human soul longs to be like God, recognizing the ideals of such a lofty personality, the character, the attributes, accept (that) the Father also seeks your qualities that condition, that specifies and distinguishes your relationship with God from all other relationships with God.
In your search for unity, Father reaches out for diversity. Understanding this dynamic between God and the human fosters acceptance of one another, even promotes delight in the manner in which another young soul in time and space undertakes the discovery of the eternal God and in whom this same Father of you, explores this universe, experiences a new soul. All people are valued the same for they are all highly unique. While it is the tendency for time/space creatures to rank order and rank things and people by value, to place one thing higher in worth and another lower is not the way of God. Each person is of the highest value, and all equally.

(From: Abraham Lincoln (1809 - 1865)
It is difficult to make a man miserable while he feels worthy of himself and claims kindred to the great God who made him.

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-1 Section-6)
The more completely man understands himself and appreciates the personality values of his fellows, the more he will crave to know the Original Personality, and the more earnestly such a God-knowing human will strive to become like the Original Personality. You can argue over opinions about God, but experience with him and in him exists above and beyond all human controversy and mere intellectual logic. The God-knowing man describes his spiritual experiences, not to convince unbelievers, but for the edification and mutual satisfaction of believers.

(From: Lantarnek - 9/26/04 – The North Idaho TeaM)
Understanding this brings acceptance of oneself and acceptance of all others and a deep trust in the overcare, concern, and love of our divine parent. Prepare thyself and drink deeply my friends.

(From: Victor Hugo (1802 - 1885)
Have courage for the great sorrows of life and patience for the small ones; and when you have laboriously accomplished your daily task, go to sleep in peace. God is awake.

The Sermon
***********
Feel God…

…residing within yourself.
…revealing Himself from within others.
…in all exchanges of Love.
…in the Supreme Beauty of Diversity.
…in all the little synchronistic experiences of Life.
…in All that is Good.

To one who has felt God in their own personal experience, there can be little doubt…
To one who has not, there can be little But doubt.

Doubt not.
In Active Faith, Experience God.
It's a GOOD feeling.

*******************************************
The Prayer
**********

May all that is of man alone, but attributed to You, fall by the wayside. And may all that is of You Truly, be embedded eternally within our Souls.

You ALL are Within the Infinitely Loving Embrace of our Universal
Parent,

The Creator's Infinite Love to all of You,

The topic of today's Sunday Service, #420, is Looking/Seeing…

********************************************
Quotes
*******
(From: Antoine de Saint-Exupery (1900 - 1944)

Life has taught us that love does not consist in gazing at each other, but in looking outward together in the same direction.

(From: The RSV Bible – Matthew 25:37-40)
… 'Lord, when did we see thee hungry and feed thee, or thirsty and give thee drink? And when did we see thee a stranger and welcome thee, or naked and clothe thee? And when did we see thee sick or in prison and visit thee?' And the King will answer them, 'Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brethren, you did it to me.'

(From: Reed Markham)
Successful innovators recognize that discovery of great ideas come from looking at the same thing as everyone else and observing something different.

(From: Abraham - 10/11/04– the Woods Cross, UT TeaM)
Let us be spirit connected enough to rise above emotional animal interpretation, to seeing the spiritual light at the end of what seems to be a long mortal tunnel.

(From: Henry Miller (1891 - 1980)
One's destination is never a place but rather a new way of looking at things.

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-101 Section-1)
It is your thoughts, not your feelings, that lead you Godward. The divine nature may be perceived only with the eyes of the mind.

(From: Solonia - 9/25/98 – The Spokane/North Idaho TeaM)
Wherever you turn, if you are aware, you could see the outworkings of spirituality within individual persons who are attempting to be their true selves, their true essence. They are attempting and succeeding in the initial stages of soul identification. They are and you are and all are gradually learning to become more in touch with living from the perspective of your soul's experience. As you become more in tune with your true feelings and understanding of your true desires, you begin to recognize the Father's hand in your experiences. As you release the control to the Father within you, your desperate need for ego to control each situation diminishes. You realize that what the Father has in store for you is that which you most truly desire.
You need no longer fight with yourself for control when you choose the Father's will in all things. You are not giving up control of your destiny and your life. You are merely allowing your inner partner to work in more direct harmony with you. When you give control to the Father, He immediately gives it back to you, but then you are seeing from a different perspective. You are seeing now from all of the valuable experiences in your life which have been accumulated in your soul experience. The negatives which were so necessary for your earlier survival and development no longer have the power over you that they once did. You now have the power to draw directly from them.

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-142 Section-6)
"But how can I begin to lay hold upon this spirit which is to remake me in preparation for entering into the kingdom?" Jesus answered: "Already does the spirit of the Father in heaven indwell you. If you would be led by this spirit from above, very soon would you begin to see with the eyes of the spirit, and then by the wholehearted choice of spirit guidance would you be born of the spirit since your only purpose in living would be to do the will of your Father who is in heaven. And so finding yourself born of the spirit and happily in the kingdom of God, you would begin to bear in your daily life the abundant fruits of the spirit."

*******************************************
The Sermon
***********
Have you ever recognized the difference between when your ego is looking through your eyes and when it is your Soul, or Higher Self that is doing the seeing through them?

If you have, and you know what I'm talking about… it's a pretty remarkable difference, isn't it?

If you haven't yet consciously recognized that difference, let me explain what I'm talking about. (Incidentally, I used the word “consciously” because I am sure beyond a doubt that you Have recognized it at some level of your being whether or not you consciously made note of it at the time.) Ok, so I'm going to give you a few examples of what it feels like for me. Let's say I feel 'needy' or 'upset' or 'preoccupied' or 'distrustful' or, heaven forbid, 'angry' or 'lustful'. I Don't right now thank goodness, but I have at one time or another that I can remember <g>.

So… alright… pretend I'm in one of those states and my physical eyes are looking at someone else. Well, maybe it would be easier if you pretend it's you. You're upset about something, maybe even about a Lot of little somethings… what does 'looking' feel like when you are with someone and looking at each other. Not entirely comfortable, right? Can't really focus on their eyes… a feeling of impatience is likely… thinking about everything else but the other person at that moment… yeah, “that” feeling. I call that the “looking through the eyes with the ego” feeling.

Now, think about what it feels like when you are looking at say, a cute baby, or a child, or any loved one, with just Pure Love… no particular needs… no particular wants… no particular desires… no Conditions… just admiring Love. Yeah… That Feeling… that Peace! No cares, nothing else to attend to in the moment… right now, all is well. It's the same feeling ya get when looking at something Beautiful, Magnificent, Awe Inspiring. It's a Goodness kind of feeling. I call That, the “looking through the eyes with the Soul” feeling.

I've found that it's possible to switch back and forth between the two ways of seeing (it's a bit easier switching back than forth ;-), and that it “Feels” noticeably different inside my head depending upon if I'm using my ego or my Soul.

For me, when it's the ego, I get this feeling like my whole consciousness is focused right in the very front part of my brain next to my eyes and in my temples and forehead… like there's nothing discernable going on behind that in my brain. It's all up front just behind my eyelids and somewhat intense… maybe even wrinkling my brow.

Try this experiment and see if you can feel what I'm talking about: Close your eyes and think about someone in politics that you can't stand right now. Really get into it and then pause and feel and ask yourself, Where does this energy seem to be located in my head? When the ego is doing the seeing or looking, that's what it feels like for me.

Now, think about someone you Love deeply, or of your favorite piece of art, or landscape… where does That feel like it is coming from? Doesn't it feel more like it's coming from the back of, or from the rest of your brain? …a more open or spacious feeling? That's what I experience when it's my Soul that is doing the seeking or Seeing… like I'm actually seeing all the way Through my mind and out through my eyes instead of just “out of my mind” right from my eyes.

Were you able to feel any difference?
If so, see if you can shift the feeling of thinking from the front of your brain to the back. Could you do it??

What does all of this have to do with anything? Well, I'm finding that if I can shift my way of thinking, it automatically shifts my way of Seeing as Well. If I can Think from my Love place, I will See from my Love space.

I guess if you want to change the way you see things, you gotta change the way that you think about things.

Think Lovingly… See Lovingly. Like God would.

(ED NOTE: Today I decided to do something very different from my usual format. Instead of putting the “Quotes” in front of the Sermon (or even after the Sermon as I have done a few times in the past), I have decided to insert them in various places within the Sermon itself. Who knows? Maybe I'll try it again sometime…

The Sermon

The TRUTH of God is… BEAUTY and GOODNESS.

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-2 Section-7)
All truth--material, philosophic, or spiritual--is both beautiful and good.

(From: Thomas Paine (1737 - 1809)
Such is the irresistible nature of truth that all it asks, and all it wants, is the liberty of appearing.

(From: Quintus Septimius Tertullianus (160 AD - 230 AD)
Truth persuades by teaching, but does not teach by persuading.

(From: John Keats (1795 - 1821)
I am certain of nothing but the holiness of the heart's affections and the truth of imagination. What the imagination seizes as beauty must be truth - whether it existed before or not.

(From: Sylvia Ashton-Warner)
Truth has beauty, power and necessity.

The BEAUTY of God is… GOODNESS and TRUTH.

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-2 Section-7)
All real beauty--material art or spiritual symmetry--is both true and good.

(From: Albert Einstein (1879 - 1955)

A human being is part of a whole, called by us the Universe, a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feelings, as something separated from the rest--a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circles of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty.

(From: Confucius (551 BC - 479 BC)
Everything has its beauty but not everyone sees it.

The GOODNESS of God is… TRUTH and BEAUTY.

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-2 Section-7)
All genuine goodness--whether personal morality, social equity, or divine ministry--is equally true and beautiful.

(From: Josephine Hart, "Sin")
We are here to add to the sum of human goodness. To prove the thing exists. And however futile each individual act of courage or generosity, self-sacrifice or grace-it still proves the thing exists. Each act adds to the fund. It needs replenishment. Not only because evil flourishes, and is, most indefensibly, defended. But because goodness is no longer a respectable aim in life.

(From: Alfred A. Montapert)
The main source of our wealth is goodness. The affections and the generous qualities that God admires in a world full of greed.

(From: Heloise (1098 - 1164)
Riches and power are but gifts of blind fate, whereas goodness is the result of one's own merits.

(From: Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803 - 1882)
Don't waste yourself in rejection, nor bark against the bad, but chant the beauty of the good.

The TRUTH, BEAUTY and GOODNESS of God is… LOVE.

(From: Martin Luther King Jr. (1929 - 1968)
I believe that unarmed truth and unconditional love will have the final word in reality. That is why right, temporarily defeated, is stronger than evil triumphant.

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-2 Section-7)
The religious challenge of this age is to those farseeing and forward-looking men and women of spiritual insight who will dare to construct a new and appealing philosophy of living out of the enlarged and exquisitely integrated modern concepts of cosmic truth, universe beauty, and divine goodness. Such a new and righteous vision of morality will attract all that is good in the mind of man and challenge that which is best in the human soul. Truth, beauty, and goodness are divine realities, and as man ascends the scale of spiritual living, these supreme qualities of the Eternal become increasingly co-ordinated and unified in God, who is love.

The TRUTH of God is… BEAUTY and GOODNESS.

The BEAUTY of God is… GOODNESS and TRUTH.

The GOODNESS of God is… TRUTH and BEAUTY.

The TRUTH, BEAUTY and GOODNESS of God is… LOVE.

LOVE is GOOD.
LOVE is BEAUTIFUL.
LOVE is TRUE.

Simply? Love!

Lawyers should never ask a witness a question if they aren't prepared for the answer. In a trial, a Southern small town prosecuting attorney called his first witness, a grand motherly, elderly woman to the stand. He approached her and asked, "Mrs. Jones, do you know me?"

She responded, "Why, yes I do know you, Mr. Williams. I've known you since you were a young boy, and frankly, you've been a big disappointment to me. You lie, you cheat on your wife, you manipulate people and talk about them behind their backs. You think you're a big shot when you haven't the brains to realize you never will amount to anything more than a two-bit paper pusher. Yes, I know you."

The Lawyer was stunned! Not knowing what else to do, he pointed across the room and asked, "Mrs. Jones, do you know the defense attorney?"

She again replied, "Why yes, I do. I've known Mr. Bradley since he was a youngster too. He's lazy, bigoted, and he has a drinking problem. He can't build a normal relationship with anyone and his law practice is one of the worst in the entire state. Not to mention he cheated on his wife with three different women. One of them was your wife. Yes, I know him."

The defense attorney almost died.

The judge asked both counselors to approach the bench, and in a very quiet voice, said, "If either of you asks her if she knows me, I'll throw your sorry selves in jail for contempt!"

Human self-consciousness implies the recognition of the reality of selves other than the conscious self and further implies that such awareness is mutual; that the self is known as it knows. This is shown in a purely human manner in man's social life. But you cannot become so absolutely certain of a fellow being's reality as you can of the reality of the presence of God that lives within you.

(From: The Urantia Papers - Paper-16 Section-9)
Unselfishness, aside from parental instinct, is not altogether natural; other persons are not naturally loved or socially served. It requires the enlightenment of reason, morality, and the urge of religion, God-knowingness, to generate an unselfish and altruistic social order. Man's own personality awareness, self-consciousness, is also directly dependent on this very fact of innate other-awareness, this innate ability to recognize and grasp the reality of other personality, ranging from the human to the divine.

(From: Sidney Madwed)
At any moment each person is always doing the VERY BEST he can, based on his total conscious and non conscious prevailing awareness and which is within his capabilities, energy, time, and developed talents and abilities. If people are always doing the very best they can, it is illogical and irrational to expect them to do better. What is the reason this concept is so important to understand? If it is true, then it is counterproductive to criticize someone for not meeting or conforming to an expectation or standard until they have the awareness of the benefits they will receive by conforming. What needs to exist is for people to be made aware of how they will get better results, by pointing out the consequences of their behavior and giving them the choice and opportunity to make adjustments.

(From: Solonia - 3/5/04 – The Garden TeaM)
“…at All times when you are among your other brothers and sisters of this world are you given opportunities to comfort another fellow child of God. It requires you to be in loving awareness of those about you and, a desire to share a piece of Our Father's Love with them.”

The Sermon
***********
It is rather Obvious to the Discerning individual that men and women are different from one another in the manner that they Think about things, is it not? There is even a somewhat noticeable divide between the majority of the things that men and women generally think About, wouldn't you say? Each has even contemplated the possibility that the Other may not at times be thinking at All (but then, who among us has ever really experienced being on the giving or receiving end of That misperception? Not me surely ;-). I have learned, and am continually in the process of re-learning, that the potential “Quality” of Thought in men and women is Quite Equal, albeit distinctly dissimilar. True there are areas of “Crossover” that become apparent at times, and within any given individual at any moment due to life experience, or growth, or both, but generally you get my point, right? The basic “process” in the action of thinking is perceivably unalike.

I was wondering about that this morning during my Stillness Meditation. I thought, the physical make up of the material brains of men and women are not dissimilar, so what is it that makes us seem to think so differently? …and then the word “Awareness” just jumped into my conscious… and then my ego thinker questioned: Quantity of? Quality of? Degree of? Depth of? Value of? …and then a still small voice said,

        “No. Awareness of.”

“Awareness of What?”

“Yes, Exactly! Of What you are Aware; that is the difference.”

“You mean… it is just the things that we are Aware of that is different?

“Not exclusively no, but in large part, yes.”

“So… men and women are just naturally not actively Aware of the same types of things?”

“Not naturally, no. But Experientially through interrelation, each may become More Aware of All there is to be Aware of.”

“Hmmm… but why can't we just be aware of the same things… so there is less conflict?”

“Mortals would get bored. The Drive to understand the underlying Unity in Diversity would be greatly lessened. The Pure Joy of Discovery would be compromised. Do you question the Wisdom of The Creator?”

“Well… now that you put it That way, I guess I Shouldn't, should I.”

        “Do you Think?”

“Yes.”

        “Good. Also be Aware.”

So… that was what came up in my mind this morning during my Stillness time. Then afterward, I got to thinking about individual Quality of Awareness. How is My Quality of Awareness? Is it Growing? Is it Stagnant? Is it less than it Aught to be? I then thought of a number of Questions to ask myself to help me determine for myself just how Aware I really Am.

They were…

How would you rate your Quality of Awareness?

(Rate yourself on a scale of “0-10”; 0 being “not at all” and 10 being “Perfectly”)

1.         Do you feel like you are Pretty Well Aware of everything that is going on around you?

2.        Do you feel like you are Sufficiently Aware of everyOne that is in your presence at any given time?

3.        Do you feel like you are Satisfactorily Aware of your Surroundings to insure your physical wellbeing all of the time?

4.        Do you feel like you are Adequately Aware of all of the things within you that are affecting your thoughts and behaviors?

5.        Do you feel like you are Effectively Aware of God in your life?

Now, add up your Score.

How did you do?

What do you Mean I didn't tell you how to rate different scores? Of Course I didn't! How Could I possibly rate any other's score except my Own?

So… how Did you do?
