Greetings my Beloved Sisters and Brothers, and welcome once again to the Church that is Within.

Churches seem to spend a lot of time talking about your values and even more about where they think that you may fall short. I think it would be more productive if they spent at least as much time talking about your…

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-165 Section-3)
"Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? And yet, when these birds flit about in quest of their sustenance, not one of them exists without the knowledge of the Father, the source of all life. To the seraphic guardians the very hairs of your head are numbered. And if all of this is true, why should you live in fear of the many trifles which come up in your daily lives? I say to you: Fear not; you are of much more value than many sparrows.

(From: Ham 7/17/93 – the Nashville TeaM)
As you discover the value of men, so must you discover your own true value, discover your true life's worth, so that as you continue on the path of true righteousness, the values you discover become your own.

(From: The Tao Te Ching - #44)
Fame or integrity: which is more important?
Money or happiness: which is more valuable?
Success of failure: which is more destructive?

If you look to others for fulfillment,
you will never truly be fulfilled.
If your happiness depends on money,
you will never be happy with yourself.

Be content with what you have;
rejoice in the way things are.
When you realize there is nothing lacking,
the whole world belongs to you.

(From: Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803 - 1882)
Guard well your spare moments. They are like uncut diamonds. Discard them and their value will never be known. Improve them and they will become the brightest gems in a useful life.

(From: James Hilton (1900 - 1954)
Surely there comes a time when counting the cost and paying the price aren't things to think about any more. All that matters is value - the ultimate value of what one does.

(From: Albert Einstein (1879 - 1955)
The value of a man resides in what he gives and not in what he is capable of receiving.

(From: Franz Kafka (1883 - 1924)
Anything that has real and lasting value is always a gift from within.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-7 Section-3)
If anything originates in your consciousness that is fraught with supreme spiritual value, when once you give it expression, no power in the universe can prevent its flashing directly to the Absolute Spirit Personality of all creation.

(From: Deepak Chopra)
Anything that is of value in life only multiplies when it is given.

(From: Solonia 2/16/2005 – the Lightline TeaM)
Take heart in your life, knowing that truly all is working out for the best. Be steadfast in your personal faith that all things done in love truly work actively for our Father. Be willing to grow and to persevere through those times in which you personally may not be able to recognize the value of what is occurring.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-100 Section-4)
In physical life the senses tell of the existence of things; mind discovers the reality of meanings; but the spiritual experience reveals to the individual the true values of life. These high levels of human living are attained in the supreme love of God and in the unselfish love of man. If you love your fellow men, you must have discovered their values. Jesus loved men so much because he placed such a high value upon them. You can best discover values in your associates by discovering their motivation. If some one irritates you, causes feelings of resentment, you should sympathetically seek to discern his viewpoint, his reasons for such objectionable conduct. If once you understand your neighbor, you will become tolerant, and this tolerance will grow into friendship and ripen into love.

(From:
Sidney Madwed)

Everyone values things differently. In other words, they place their own value on everything that affects their lives. Also from moment to moment they may even change their values. Such as a person, who values diamonds above all else, might be willing to trade a gallon of diamonds for a drink of water to save his life in a desert. What this means is value is a relative thing depending on a need or a perceived need. Yet, how many people will argue and even violently fight over the perceived value of something or some idea only later have an entirely different view point or value.

(From: Joan Boysenko, Pocketful of Miracles)
If our actions stem from honesty, kindness, caring, and vision, then no matter what the result of our efforts, we have added something of value to our souls and to the world.

(From: Adlai E. Stevenson Jr.)
If we value the pursuit of knowledge, we must be free to follow wherever that search may lead us.

(From: Jean Shinoda Bolen)
I think people don't place a high enough value on how much they are nurtured by doing whatever it is that totally absorbs them.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-12 Section-7)
The love of the Father absolutely individualizes each personality as a unique child of the Universal Father, a child without duplicate in infinity, a will creature irreplaceable in all eternity. The Father's love glorifies each child of God, illuminating each member of the celestial family, sharply silhouetting the unique nature of each personal being against the impersonal levels that lie outside the fraternal circuit of the Father of all. The love of God strikingly portrays the transcendent value of each will creature, unmistakably reveals the high value which the Universal Father has placed upon each and every one of his children from the highest creator personality of Paradise status to the lowest personality of will dignity among the savage tribes of men in the dawn of the human species on some evolutionary world of time and space.

(From: Robert Anthony)
When you are done chasing the rainbow... given all of life's disappointments and tribulations --all that may really be of any value is how we love and how we are loved!

(From: Aaron - 2/5/94– the Spokane TeaM)
You share what you have and take what is given from others. You utilize the aspects of give and take to mold the character. As you develop, it is key that you find your strength from within to motivate you forward. It is a short circuiting of the system when you draw your motivation from outside sources.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-5 Section-1)
If such a human mind is sincerely and spiritually motivated, if such a human soul desires to know God and become like him, honestly wants to do the Father's will, there exists no negative influence of mortal deprivation nor positive power of possible interference which can prevent such a divinely motivated soul from securely ascending to the portals of Paradise.

(From: Lloyd Dobyns and Clare Crawford-Mason, Thinking About Quality)
The only lifelong, reliable motivations are those that come from within, and one of the strongest of those is the joy and pride that grow from knowing that you've just done something as well as you can do it.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-140 Section-4)
The happy and effective person is motivated, not by fear of wrongdoing, but by love of right doing.

(From: Kenneth Hildebrand)
Strong lives are motivated by dynamic purposes.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-103 Section-4)
God the Father deals with man his child on the basis, not of actual virtue or worthiness, but in recognition of the child's motivation--the creature purpose and intent. The relationship is one of parent-child association and is actuated by divine love.

(From: Ham 9/6/98 – the Nashville TeaM)
The Father alone sees into human motivation and the Father alone can truly and justly judge all human action.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-196 Section-3)
Love is the highest motivation which man may utilize in his universe ascent.

(From: Chris Messina)
Look at what your idea of success would be. The more that you take in external motivators, the more it reduces your ultimate satisfaction because it doesn't come from inside.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-100 Section-2)
Spiritual growth is first an awakening to needs, next a discernment of meanings, and then a discovery of values. The evidence of true spiritual development consists in the exhibition of a human personality motivated by love, activated by unselfish ministry, and dominated by the wholehearted worship of the perfection ideals of divinity.

(From: Lou Holtz)
Ability is what you're capable of doing. Motivation determines what you do. Attitude determines how well you do it.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-101 Section-8)
Belief has attained the level of faith when it motivates life and shapes the mode of living. The acceptance of a teaching as true is not faith; that is mere belief. Neither is certainty nor conviction faith. A state of mind attains to faith levels only when it actually dominates the mode of living

The Sermon
***********
Loving Motives do not always result in positive outcomes… at least not always at first glance… or even second in many instances. But whenever your Motives are generated in Love, God knows and remembers and your reward, though sometimes delayed, is inevitable. It is your Faith that allows you to realize it.

Motives based in selfishness or greed or revenge or prejudice never lead one toward goodness… toward God. They inevitably produce opportunities for the suffering of others, and eventually for the self.

Is your Motivation centered in Love? Then Trust your Outcomes to the Will and Wisdom of your Divine Parent.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-129 Section-1)
There was something gracious and inspiring about the personality of Jesus which invariably attracted young people. He always made them feel at ease in his presence. Perhaps his great secret in getting along with them consisted in the twofold fact that he was always interested in what they were doing, while he seldom offered them advice unless they asked for it.

(From: Albert Einstein (1879 - 1955)
Everything that is really great and inspiring is created by the individual who can labor in freedom.

(From: The RSV Bible - Corinthians I 12:4-11)
Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; and there are varieties of service, but the same Lord; and there are varieties of working, but it is the same God who inspires them all in every one. To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. To one is given through the Spirit the utterance of wisdom, and to another the utterance of knowledge according to the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit, to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another the ability to distinguish between spirits, to another various kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues. All these are inspired by one and the same Spirit, who apportions to each one individually as he wills.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-143 Section-7)
Worship is the technique of looking to the One for the inspiration of service to the many.

(From: Aaron Copland (1900 - 1990)
Inspiration may be a form of superconsciousness, or perhaps of subconsciousness - I wouldn't know. But I am sure it is the antithesis of self- consciousness.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-91 Section-3)
Prayer induces the human ego to look both ways for help: for material aid to the subconscious reservoir of mortal experience, for inspiration and guidance to the superconscious borders of the contact of the material with the spiritual

(From: Robert Anthony)
Everything I see in this existence tells me that we were created by the hand of a teacher. One that has left behind all the materials needed to inspire and complete our education.

(From:
William A. Ward)

The mediocre teacher tells. The good teacher explains. The superior teacher demonstrates. The great teacher inspires.

(From: Bertrand Russell (1872 - 1970)
It is because modern education is so seldom inspired by a great hope that it so seldom achieves great results. The wish to preserve the past rather than the hope of creating the future dominates the minds of those who control the teaching of the young.

(From: King Whitney Jr.)
Change has a considerable psychological impact on the human mind. To the fearful it is threatening because it means that things may get worse. To the hopeful it is encouraging because things may get better. To the confident it is inspiring because the challenge exists to make things better.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-156 Section-5)
Believers must increasingly learn how to step aside from the rush of life--escape the harassments of material existence--while they refresh the soul, inspire the mind, and renew the spirit by worshipful communion.

(From: Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803 - 1882)
The glory of friendship is not the outstretched hand, nor the kindly smile, nor the joy of companionship; it is the spiritual inspiration that comes to one when he discovers that someone else believes in him and is willing to trust him.

(From: Mary Baker Eddy)
Love inspires, illuminates, designates and leads the way.

Physical life is a process taking place not so much within the organism as between the organism and the environment. And every such process tends to create and establish organismal patterns of reaction to such an environment. And all such directive patterns are highly influential in goal choosing.

(From: Henry George (1839 - 1897)
Let no man imagine that he has no influence. Whoever he may be, and wherever he may be placed, the man who thinks becomes a light and a power.

(From: John Fletcher (1579 - 1625)
Man is his own star and the soul that can render an honest and perfect man commands all light, all influence, all fate.

(From:
Diogenes Laertius, Zeno)

One ought to seek out virtue for its own sake, without being influenced by fear or hope, or by any external influence. Moreover that, in that does happiness consist.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-100 Section-1)
Children are permanently impressed only by the loyalties of their adult associates; precept or even example is not lastingly influential. Loyal persons are growing persons, and growth is an impressive and inspiring reality. Live loyally today--grow--and tomorrow will attend to itself.

(From: Benjamin Disraeli (1804 - 1881)
It is knowledge that influences and equalizes the social condition of man; that gives to all, however different their political position, passions which are in common, and enjoyments which are universal.

(From: Albert Einstein (1879 - 1955)
Never regard study as a duty, but as the enviable opportunity to learn to know the liberating influence of beauty in the realm of the spirit for your own personal joy and to the profit of the community to which your later work belongs.

(From: John F. Kennedy - Speech for the Dallas Trade Mart - never delivered.)
There will always be dissident voices heard in the land expressing opposition without alternatives, finding fault but never favor, perceiving gloom on every side, and seeking influence without responsibility.

(From: Gerald White Johnson, American Heroes and Hero-Worships, Chapter 1)
Nothing changes more constantly than the past; for the past that influences our lives does not consist of what actually happened, but of what men believe happened.

(From: George Eliot (1819 - 1880)
Blessed is the influence of one true, loving human soul on another.

(From: Henry Adams (1838 - 1918), The Education of Henry Adams)
A teacher affects eternity; he can never tell where his influence stops.

(From: Eleanor H. Porter (1868 - 1920)
The influence of a beautiful, helpful, hopeful character is contagious and may revolutionize a whole town.

(From: Seneca (5 BC - 65 AD)
To see a man fearless in dangers. untainted with lusts, happy in adversity, composed in a tumult, and laughing at all those things which are generally either coveted or feared, all men must acknowledge that this can be from nothing else but a beam of divinity that influences a mortal body.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-152 Section-1)
Though the Master is absent as a material being, he is present as a spiritual influence in the hearts of men. By going away from the world, Jesus made it possible for his spirit to live alongside that of his Father which indwells the minds of all mankind.

(From: Basil W. Maturin)
I believe there are few whose view of life has not been affected by the stern or kindly influences of their early childhood, which threw them in upon themselves in timidity and reserve, or drew them out in genial confidence and sympathy with their fellow creatures.

(From: A. S. Neill, Summerhill)
Free children are not easily influenced; the absence of fear accounts for this phenomenon. Indeed, the absence of fear is the finest thing that can happen to a child.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-195 Section-6)
Freedom or initiative in any realm of existence is directly proportional to the degree of spiritual influence and cosmic-mind control; that is, in human experience, the degree of the actuality of doing "the Father's will." And so, when you once start out to find God, that is the conclusive proof that God has already found you.

The Sermon
***********
It is difficult to know how much influence we have upon those around us. Everyone wants to feel like they have some positive influence in the lives of those that they love. It is only Natural, is it not? And in reality, it is first and foremost their Love that Does have a Positive Influence upon their loved ones. It is first and foremost their Love that has a Positive Influence upon everyone they meet and upon their environment in general.

Often it is not easy to recognize the Influence that our Love has upon others… sometimes impossible really. Many times, the outward evidence of Love's Influence is nothing more than an instantaneous glance, a sparkle, a glint in the eye or the mere beginnings of a smile… easy to miss if you aren't looking for it or aware of it's message. Loves Influence is Lasting though. It gives again and again and again. The Influence of your Love has it's greatest effect, it's most lasting Influence, when you are not immediately present to witness it. Think about it. Are You not more apt to be Influenced by another's loving actions after a bit of reflection? I know I certainly am.

The Influence of Love manifests in numerous, perhaps Infinite ways… Big Ways, small ways, All ways, Always. Seldom though will it look like what you might expect… might prefer… might crave. Personal Validation comes not from being able to “recognize“ the extent of our Loving Personal Influence.

We cannot control the channels that Love will flow into once it passes through us unto others. Trying to, comes across as an attempt to control, rather than it's being seen as a Loving gift.

Genuine Validation can only come from knowing you have acted in Love, and trusting in Love's effectiveness. God is Love. Trust in God.

Love!
Influence Guaranteed…

(From:

I wanted Yoda to be the traditional kind of character you find in fairy tales and mythology. And that character is usually a frog or a wizened old man on the side of the road. The hero is going down the road and meets this poor and insignificant person. The goal or lesson is for the hero to learn to respect everybody and to pay attention to the poorest person because that's where the key to his success will be.

(From: Gene Oliver)
When the student is ready. . . the lesson appears.

(From: Peter McWilliams, Life 101)
If our early lessons of acceptance were as successful as our early lessons of anger, how much happier we would all be.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-28 Section-5)
One of the most important lessons to be learned during your mortal career is teamwork. The spheres of perfection are manned by those who have mastered this art of working with other beings. Few are the duties in the universe for the lone servant. The higher you ascend, the more lonely you become when temporarily without the association of your fellows.

(From: Elyon - 8/11/02 – The North Idaho TeaM)
Teamwork is a valuable lesson that will be continually learned and relearned and reapplied for many ages for all of you. Individuality and cooperation are complements in the process of Supreme unfoldment.

(From: John Burroughs (1837 - 1921)
The lesson which life repeats and constantly enforces is 'look under foot.' You are always nearer the divine and the true sources of your power than you think.

(From: Author Unknown)
One thing about the school of experience is that it will repeat the lesson if you flunk the first time.

(From: The Book of Runes - #11)
You fall short in your efforts, you reach out and miss, you watch helplessly while what you've gained dwindles away. Observe what is happening. Examine these events from an open perspective and ask, “What lesson do I need to learn from this in my life?”

(From: Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803 - 1882)
He has not learned the lesson of life who does not every day surmount a fear.

(From: Al Franken, "Oh, the Things I Know", 2002)
Mistakes are a part of being human. Appreciate your mistakes for what they are: precious life lessons that can only be learned the hard way. Unless it's a fatal mistake, which, at least, others can learn from.

(From: Hugh White (1773 - 1840)
When you make a mistake, don't look back at it long. Take the reason of the thing into your mind and then look forward. Mistakes are lessons of wisdom. The past cannot be changed. The future is yet in your power.

(From:
Dale E. Turner)

Some of the best lessons we ever learn are learned from past mistakes. The error of the past is the wisdom and success of the future.

(From: Henry Miller (1891 - 1980)
In this age, which believes that there is a short cut to everything, the greatest lesson to be learned is that the most difficult way is, in the long run, the easiest.

(From: Kirby Larson, Hattie Big Sky)
The lessons this life has planted in my heart pertain more to caring than crops, more to Golden Rule than gold, more to the proper choice than to the popular choice.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-48 Section-6)
Even now you should learn to water the garden of your heart as well as to seek for the dry sands of knowledge. Forms are valueless when lessons are learned. No chick may be had without the shell, and no shell is of any worth after the chick is hatched.

The Sermon
***********
Though Life may seem to be (and truly is), Lesson after Lesson after Lesson, one right after another with barely a break in between, in reality Life is one vast Continual Lesson.

One can hardly deny that there are in fact a number of Major Lessons each child of God needs to learn in life… each an essential and vital part of “The One Lesson”… each Major Lesson consisting of Lesson within Lesson within Lesson.

Do you ever feel like you are repeating a Lesson you have already learned? I believe that the reason for that feeling is that only one Part of the Lesson was learned before, or that perhaps there are yet some significant other complimentary Lessons within the larger Lesson yet to be encountered and learned before mastering the greater Lesson.

Quite often a Major Lesson is first recognized only as a result of successfully accomplishing a significant number of its component Important Lessons.

The Most Important Lesson? It is the one you are in the midst of right now. There are no unimportant Lessons. All have immeasurable value from the seemingly insignificant to the apparently crucial.

So what then is “The One Lesson”???

Why… Love of course.
Giving…
Receiving…
Being.

Eternal Life is a Lesson in Love.
