The difference between perseverance and obstinacy is that one comes from a strong will; and the other from a strong won't.

Quotes

(From: “Jesus” - The Urantia Book - Paper-192 Section-2)
Then said Jesus: “If you would serve me, serve my brethren in the flesh even as I have served you. And be not weary in this well-doing but persevere as one who has been ordained by God for this service of love.”

(From: The NIV Bible - Corinthians I 13:4-7 )
Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

(From: Giovanni Boccaccio )
You must read, you must persevere, you must sit up nights, you must inquire, and exert the utmost power of your mind. If one way does not lead to the desired meaning, take another; if obstacles arise, then still another; until, if your strength holds out, you will find that clear which at first looked dark.

(From: Christopher Reeve )
I think a hero is an ordinary individual who finds strength to persevere and endure in spite of overwhelming obstacles.

(From: The Book of Runes -#6 - Initiation / Something Hidden / A Secret Matter )
You may feel overwhelmed with exhaustion from meeting obstruction upon obstruction in your passage. Yet you always have a choice: you can see all this apparent negativity as “bad luck” or you can recognize it as an obstacle course, a challenge specific to the initiation you are presently undergoing. Then each setback, each humiliation, becomes a test of character. When your inner being is shifting and reforming on a deep level, patience, constancy and perseverance are called for. So stay centered, see the humor, and keep on keeping on.

(From: Marie Curie (1867 - 1934 )
Life is not easy for any of us, but what of that? We must have perseverance and above all confidence in ourselves. We must believe that we are gifted in something, and that this thing, at whatever cost, must be attained.

(From: John Quincy Adams (1767 - 1848 )
Courage and perseverance have a magical talisman, before which difficulties disappear and obstacles vanish into air.

(From: Samuel Johnson (1709 - 1784 )
Great works are performed not by strength, but perseverance.

(From: Joseph Addison (1672 - 1719 )
If you wish success in life, make perseverance your bosom friend, experience your wise counselor, caution your elder brother and hope your guardian genius.

(From: Plutarch (46 AD - 120 AD), Lives )
Perseverance is more prevailing than violence; and many things which cannot be overcome when they are together, yield themselves up when taken little by little.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-115 Section-7)
All this must be according to the Father's plan, which has predicated finite progress upon effort, creature achievement upon perseverance, and personality development upon faith.

(From: Mark Twain (1835 - 1910 )
The miracle, or the power, that elevates the few is to be found in their industry, application, and perseverance under the prompting of a brave, determined spirit.

The Sermon
***********
When challenges arise...
Lord, give me the strength to Persevere!

When the pain seems too unbearable...
Lord, give me the strength to Persevere!

When obstacles block my progress...
Lord, give me the strength to Persevere!

When exhaustion urges me to quit...
Lord, give me the strength to Persevere!

When I can not perceive the Truth...
Lord, give me the strength to Persevere!

When I fail to see the Beauty...
Lord, give me the strength to Persevere!

When I do not find the Goodness...
Lord, give me the strength to Persevere!

When I'm unable to recognize the Love...
Lord, give me the strength to Persevere!

When I struggle to discern You within others and within myself...
Lord, give me the strength to Persevere!

In my pursuit to discover and to embrace and to Live Your Will...
Lord, give me the strength to Persevere!

The True Value and Ultimate Consequence of Resolute Perseverance is Far beyond the diminutive confines of mere Human Perception...

To Persevere is to Survive...
To Persevere is to Attain Life after mortal death...

Persevere!

The topic of today's Sunday Service, #938, is Respect…

*******************************************
The Sermon
***********
What is Respect? What is it Really? Can there be a definitive answer?

Is not Respect different for everyone? ...depending upon their life's experiences with it?

As a child, I remember hearing a few of my friend's parents demand or try to enforce some measure of Respect from them. I didn't quite understand as a youth why this might be necessary. ??? A few others parents seemed to Expect unquestioned Respect because of their longevity or of their parental designation. I didn't quite comprehend that either.

Perhaps that is because my own childhood experiences with Respect were quite different from those of some of my friends. My own parents would never hesitate to correct me if I was doing something that they believed was wrong, or to reiterate to me those things that they believed were right... but I most often felt as if they were allowing me to make my own choices without a lot of parental interference/stipulations. I was never given reason to question my parent's love or devotion to my personal welfare... my True Respect for them was inherent, wholehearted and never questioned. Notwithstanding... I regularly failed to follow their specific directions, adhere to their established preferences or accommodate their perceived wishes... occasionally due to personal choice but most often because of forgetfulness or my then undiagnosed “attention deficit disorder.” These personal deficiencies were simply That... my sincerity and my purpose was never in question with my family.

It must be so Very different for those who have had personal experiences so entirely dissimilar or in total contrast to my own. I cannot presume to comprehend their perceptions of Respect. I can only at best Pray that they may somehow, if not understand, at least accept that my own interpretation of Respect may be no less valid than their own.

I never personally choose to purposefully disrespect another... do you?

Spiritual living mightily increases true self-respect. But self-respect is not self-admiration. Self-respect is always co-ordinate with the love and service of one's fellows. It is not possible to respect yourself more than you love your neighbor; the one is the measure of the capacity for the other.

(From: Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803 - 1882 )
Be not the slave of your own past. Plunge into the sublime seas, dive deep and swim far, so you shall come back with self-respect, with new power, with an advanced experience that shall explain and overlook the old.

The topic of today's Sunday Service, #939, is Validation…

Quotes
*******
(From: Todd Moody )
An occasional winner looks to success to validate the performance, but a champion looks to the performance as a validation of success.”

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-103 Section-9)
Theology constitutes the religious effort to define, clarify, expound, and justify the experiential claims of religion, which, in the last analysis, can be validated only by living faith. In the higher philosophy of the universe, wisdom, like reason, becomes allied to faith. Reason, wisdom, and faith are man's highest human attainments. Reason introduces man to the world of facts, to things; wisdom introduces him to a world of truth, to relationships; faith initiates him into a world of divinity, spiritual experience.

  1. (From: Lantarnek - 11/11/07 – The North Idaho TeaM)
In the realm of personal unfoldment there is a creative adventure being undertaken. So, you will bring into being experiences that may not find comparison with other experiences of other individuals. In such occurrences you will of necessity seek your validation from the source of all beings. God contains every experience even while yet it is un-experienced. You are an expression of those experiences unfolding.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-103 Section-8)
The confusion about the experience of the certainty of God arises out of the dissimilar interpretations and relations of that experience by separate individuals and by different races of men. The experiencing of God may be wholly valid, but the discourse about God, being intellectual and philosophical, is divergent and oftentimes confusingly fallacious.

(From: Solonia 10/7/2004 – the Lightline TeaM)
Look not to one another for your validation of your personal progress for relatively speaking it is only with our Father that any of us can really compare our progress.

(From: Teacher Daniel - 7/7/95– the S.E. Idaho TeaM)
Take everything to your Indwelling Spirit for validation and let your Indwelling Spirit and the Spirit of Truth be your guides in discerning what is true and what is not

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-103 Section-1)
That religionists have believed so much that was false does not invalidate religion because religion is founded on the recognition of values and is validated by the faith of personal religious experience. Religion, then, is based on experience and religious thought; theology, the philosophy of religion, is an honest attempt to interpret that experience. Such interpretative beliefs may be right or wrong, or a mixture of truth and error.

(From: J. Loren Wince quotes )
To know that what you are doing is what you are supposed to be doing offers a little validation that you aren't crazy.”

(From: Will 7/25/93 – the Talahassee TeaM)
Just as you are not always aware of the passage of time, so also are you not aware of the growth process. It is natural to seek validation of one's own growth much as you mark a wall to see your child's growth. This is tangible proof to a mortal mind that such growth has occurred.

(From: Alkon - 5/30/93– the S.E. Idaho TeaM)
Do not look for proof for anything in an external source, but check all that you encounter in terms of inner validation. Turn to the Indwelling Spirit within you to validate

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-103 Section-5)
It lifts man out of himself and beyond himself when he once fully realizes that there lives and strives within him something which is eternal and divine. And so it is that a living faith in the superhuman origin of our ideals validates our belief that we are the sons of God and makes real our altruistic convictions, the feelings of the brotherhood of man.

(From: Christine Fahlund )
Much of what we do is for people who like to make their own decisions, who want validation of their own thinking.”

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-103 Section-8)
The imperfection of the lover's insight into the true nature of the beloved does not in the least invalidate either the reality or sincerity of his love.

*******************************************
The Sermon
***********
We all seek Personal Validation.

Validation of our Abilities... of our Significance... of our Value.
For Validation of our Beliefs... our Perceptions... of our Understanding.

We Crave Personal Validation that we are going in the right Direction... that we are traveling the Right Path. We Yearn for Personal Validation of our Truth... of our Faith.

The human ego often mistakes approval for Validation... believes that Approval actually IS Validation. But you and I know in our hearts... in our souls that they are Not the same... not equivalent... certainly not Equal.

The ego hungers for Approval, but I believe it is the Soul that actually desires Validation.

Approval comes from without. Approval comes from others. Sometimes it is given but often it is not... frequently it is deserved, but often enough it is not. As satisfying as approval may be to our egos, our human selves, that satisfaction is not long lasting, it is quickly consumed and must be regularly replenished.

True Validation comes from Within. Validation comes from the Spirit, from God. Validation is never withheld once it has been earned... and never is it achieved undeserved. Validation becomes a possession of the Soul... it Nourishes as well as Satisfies. And yet as we Grow emotionally and Spiritually, so also does our capacity and our desire for Validation grow. So long as we aspire to discover and to do the Will of God, we will Need Validation to fuel our Faith... and we will Receive Validation as the reward of Living our Faith.

God is the Source of all genuine Validation.

When you feel the need for Validation, don't look to others, even like minded others, for it.
You want Validation?
Then go to the Source!

Quotes

(From: The NKJV Bible - John 14:1-4)
“Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. In My Father's house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also. And where I go you know, and the way you know.”

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-142 Section-6)
“But how can I begin to lay hold upon this spirit which is to remake me in preparation for entering into the kingdom?” Jesus answered: “Already does the spirit of the Father in heaven indwell you. If you would be led by this spirit from above, very soon would you begin to see with the eyes of the spirit, and then by the wholehearted choice of spirit guidance would you be born of the spirit since your only purpose in living would be to do the will of your Father who is in heaven. And so finding yourself born of the spirit and happily in the kingdom of God, you would begin to bear in your daily life the abundant fruits of the spirit.”

(From: John Stuart Mill (1806 - 1873), On Liberty, 1859 )
No one can be a great thinker who does not recognize that as a thinker it is his first duty to follow his intellect to whatever conclusions it may lead. Truth gains more even by the errors of one who, with due study, and preparation, thinks for himself, than by the true opinions of those who only hold them because they do not suffer themselves to think.

(From: Harriet Martineau (1802 - 1876 )
You better live your best and act your best and think your best today, for today is the sure preparation for tomorrow and all the other tomorrows that follow.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-48 Section-6)
Very important is the work of preparation for the next higher sphere, but nothing equals the importance of the work of the world in which you are actually living.

(From: Rainer Maria Rilke (1875 - 1926 )
For one human being to love another; that is perhaps the most difficult of all our tasks, the ultimate, the last test and proof, the work for which all other work is but preparation.

(From: Colin Powell (1937 - )
There are no secrets to success. It is the result of preparation, hard work, and learning from failure.

(From: Thomas a Kempis (1380 - 1471 )
The good devout man first makes inner preparation for the actions he has later to perform.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-110 Section-1)
Although the divine indwellers are chiefly concerned with your spiritual preparation for the next stage of the never-ending existence, they are also deeply interested in your temporal welfare and in your real achievements on earth. They are delighted to contribute to your health, happiness, and true prosperity. They are not indifferent to your success in all matters of planetary advancement which are not inimical to your future life of eternal progress.

(From: The NKJV Bible - Corinthians I 2:9)
“Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, Nor have entered into the heart of man The things which God has prepared for those who love Him.”

(From: The Book of Runes #8 - Fertility / New Beginnings (Inguz )
Inguz counsels preparation. Being centered and grounded, freeing yourself from all unwanted influences, and seeing the humor, you are indeed prepared to open yourself to the Will of Heaven, and can await your deliverance with calm certainty.

Preparation

It does not take away ones ability to “Be in the Now” or to be spontaneous.
Rather does good Preparation make it possible to succeed, thrive in and truly Enjoy the present moment.

I've been trying and trying to think of something, Anything in life, that doesn't benefit from sufficient Preparation. Couldn't do it. I would yet go as far as saying that Life itself actually requires, even revolves around some level of Preparation... don't you think? Preparation is even More Essential to those who are incapable of doing it for themselves. It just requires someone else to do it for them.

We all do it... some more efficiently than others. Funny how it is so much easier to recognize the insufficient Preparation of others than our own. Except of course in retrospect... then it becomes more personally obvious... No? Hopefully we all learn from those rare (or not) instances.

Preparation occurs more on an instinctual level with animals than with humans. Animals don't have to think about it and we humans Do. Experience, Maturity, and most certainly Wisdom are vital to human beings in the learning of Preparedness. Maybe it is one of our most Crucial Lessons we need to learn in this Mortal life... ya Think?

Preparations for This life are time consuming indeed, but we shouldn't neglect to at the same time be making our Preparations for attaining the next life as well. Do we spend enough time Preparing for That? Do you?
