Welcome by: Pastor Daniel

Greetings my Beloved Sisters and Brothers, and welcome once again to The Church that is Within.

I don't usually don't have a clue as to what the week's Sunday Service will be about 'till I wake up and start it on Sunday mornings. This week however, I heard a song on the radio last Tuesday evening that inspired today's Service. For some reason, I knew it right away... as soon as I heard it, and had the rest of the week until today to think about it... turn it over in my mind... look for examples of it life. I had heard the song before... Loved the voice of the lady who performed it... Loved the Words of the song... Still don't know the Artist's name... Or the Song's name for that matter. The song spoke of Innocence...

(from: “Beauty Tips" by Audrey Hepburn)
"For attractive lips, speak words of kindness.
For lovely eyes, seek out the good in people.
For a slim figure, share your food with the hungry.
For beautiful hair, let a child run his fingers through it once a day.
For poise, walk with the knowledge you'll never walk alone ...
People, even more than things, have to be restored, renewed, revived, reclaimed and redeemed and redeemed and redeemed.
Never throw out anybody.
Remember, if you ever need a helping hand, you'll find one at the end of your arm.
As you grow older you will discover that you have two hands. One for helping yourself, the other for helping others."

(from: The RSV Bible - Matthew 10:16)
"Behold, I send you out as sheep in the midst of wolves; so be wise as serpents and innocent as doves.

(from: The RSV Bible - Philippians 2:13-15)
for God is at work in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure. Do all things without grumbling or questioning, that you may be blameless and innocent, children of God without blemish in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world,

(from: The Urantia Papers - Paper-148 Section-5)
"Nathaniel, it is our mission to help men solve their spiritual problems and in this way to quicken their minds so that they may be the better prepared and inspired to go about solving their manifold material problems. I know of your confusion as you have read the Scriptures. All too often there has prevailed a tendency to ascribe to God the responsibility for everything which ignorant man fails to understand. The Father is not personally responsible for all you may fail to comprehend. Do not doubt the love of the Father just because some just and wise law of his ordaining, chances to afflict you because you have innocently or deliberately transgressed such a divine ordinance.

(from: The Urantia Papers - Paper-100 Section-1)
Children are permanently impressed only by the loyalties of their adult associates; precept or even example is not lastingly influential. Loyal persons are growing persons, and growth is an impressive and inspiring reality. Live loyally today---grow---and tomorrow will attend to itself. The quickest way for a tadpole to become a frog is to live loyally each moment as a tadpole.

The Sermon

Ya ever really think about Innocence very much... or of what it truly means to be Innocent? I decided to see what Webster's had to say about it...

In•no•cent adj. 1. free from moral wrong. 2. free from legal or specific wrong. 3. not involving evil intent. 4. not causing physical or moral injury. 5. with out guile; ingenuous [free from deceit or disguise; open].

It somehow seems in Today's society, that the word Innocent is used mostly in reference to being "Not Guilty" of some accused wrong... doesn't it? Or... in some kind of derogatory manner like... "Don't act so innocent!" as if there is something Wrong with being innocent? I still fall into that trap from time to time.

When I went in to make sure my 9 year old son Danny was covered up and sleeping before retiring the other night, there he was... serene, So Pure and peacefully unaware of anything but his dreams. It reminded me of another, and in my mind Better use for the word Innocent. "Childlike Innocence"... such a Rare and Beautiful thing... is it Not? Watching children Play, and Pretend, and Dream, and make mistakes and Learn from them, and Grow... Ahhh , to have that Innocence back... to have it all Again! [Knowing what I know Now... of Course. ;-)]
When is it that guilt and cynicism and apathy set in? What is it that causes us to "Lose our Innocence"... that Beautiful and Peaceful childlike Innocence? Do we ever really and totally Lose it, or do we just Think we do? Perhaps it is the first time we are made to feel guilty about something we didn't do? Or is it the first time we ever consciously choose to do something that we Know we will feel guilty about? Maybe it's when our childhood fantasies begin to fade into memories. Maybe it's when we start thinking that being ignorant or naive is something horrible and stupid rather than something that is Completely Natural to imperfect beings. Why... there would be no more opportunities for Learning and Growth if it wasn't for being Naive and Ignorant of some things... wouldn't ya Think? Maybe... it's when we recognize that we , once again, did not get the whole lesson from an experience and are, once Again, right in the middle of a similar struggle. Don't ya HATE when That happens? "Yes... but... I was Innocent going Into it!" Of COURSE I was... or I would have made different Choices, Right?

Have ya ever made yourself feel guilty about not doing something that you Could have... if only you'd known... hadn't been naive... had been less ignorant of all the circumstances involved... had been less... less Innocent? I wonder why it's so common among us "human" creatures to accept and torture ourselves with blame for things that are Realistically Entirely beyond our control... beyond our present ability of perception? I Wonder why that Is? Why do we so often attempt to prove to ourselves that we Should feel guilty of not being able to do something... of not Knowing everything already... of not being Perfect yet? It's like sometimes, for Some reason, we don't Want to feel innocent... don't feel that we Deserve to feel innocent... blame ourselves for our Past errors and mistakes... lose the Reality that yes, I was Indeed innocent this time as well. Or I would have made different Choices... Right?

I Think it would be a good thing if we immature mortal human creatures could learn to Embrace that we are in Fact, and will Always be, Innocent Children... children of a Loving and Completely Understanding Divine Parent. God forgives us for being Young... for making mistakes that we can learn and grow from... more likely it is we who will not forgive Ourselves for our inherent immaturity. Suppose? Nobody with any degree of consciousness will blame a little child for not instinctively knowing how to talk and how to walk will they? Are we not all still learning how to talk the Talk and to walk the Walk? Should we not Expect that we will quite innocently say things incorrectly, will fall down and perhaps skin our knees from time to time?

Innocence --- If you think you have completely lost yours... Open your Eyes. If you discover you have inadvertently discarded it or left it behind... accept it Back into your life. If you have been taught to fear innocence... learn to Love it.

Don't ya Love watching children Play, and Pretend, and Dream, and Grow, and Learn? They are so Fresh... so Eager ... So Innocent!

Be Innocent. It's a Good thing.

Dear God,
Thank You for understanding and assuming my innocence better than I do. Teach me to better recognize and embrace it.

(from: The Urantia Papers - Paper-130 Section-5)
One day when Ganid asked Jesus why he had not devoted himself to the work of a public teacher, he said: "My son, everything must await the coming of its time. You are born into the world, but no amount of anxiety and no manifestation of impatience will help you to grow up. You must, in all such matters, wait upon time. Time alone will ripen the green fruit upon the tree. Season follows season and sundown follows sunrise only with the passing of time. I am now on the way to Rome with you and your father, and that is sufficient for today. My tomorrow is wholly in the hands of my Father in heaven." And then he told Ganid the story of Moses and the forty years of watchful waiting and continued preparation.

(from: The RSV Bible - Habakkuk 2:3-4)
For still the vision awaits its time; it hastens to the end--it will not lie. If it seem slow, wait for it; it will surely come, it will not delay. Behold, he whose soul is not upright in him shall fail, but the righteous shall live by his faith.

(Quoting: Arthur Brisbane)
“The man who is always killing time is really killing his own chances in life; while the man who
is destined for success is the man who makes time live by making it useful.”

(Quoting: Leland Kaiser)
“The future is simply infinite possibility waiting to happen. What it waits on is human imagination to crystallize its possibility.”

(from: The Urantia Papers - Paper-118 Section-6)
In the mortal life, paths of differential conduct are continually opening and closing, and during the times when choice is possible the human personality is constantly deciding between these many courses of action. Temporal volition is linked to time, and it must await the passing of time to find opportunity for expression. Spiritual volition has begun to taste liberation from the fetters of time, having achieved partial escape from time sequence, and that is because spiritual volition is self-identifying with the will of God.

(from: Abraham - September 26, 1999 Woods Cross, UT)
Mortal living can bring many disappointments and crushing blows to the spirit. A man may perceive his adversities to be a chastisement from God. He may believe he has somehow earned his misfortune. He wonders what could he have done to deserve such adversity. What could he have done different? How could he turn the tables in his favor? How might he escape this bitter reality? A man with this outlook is likely to become greatly discouraged, embittered and hopeless. His perception is narrowed to fit his one-dimensional thinking. This thinking recruits the spirit poisons, and difficulties that were not that bad are now made worse.
Another man who has also experienced life's brutal difficulties may look to his Father and ask, what is the meaning of this, Father? This faithful man may perceive this to be a lesson in acquiring spiritual fruits. He knows in his mortal state his difficulties are only landmarks upon his eternal path. His difficulties are stepping-stones to higher learning. His broad vision allows him to go beyond the ego to an overall good that serves everyone. This man is observant in watching Father work within his problems. Using the stillness mind he is open for Father's suggestions and solutions. This man can perceive his difficulties without fear or unknowing or loneliness, for Father has promised His assistance.
In learning to remain steadfast in faith and persevere through difficulties, it is important that you perceive your mortal life as if you are standing at the beginning of all eternity--because this is so. These mortal problems that plague you today are exercises which you become strengthened by, to advance spiritually.

(from: The Urantia Papers - Paper-195 Section-5)
Be patient! Be not tempted to indulge in a lawless plunge into cheap and sordid adventure. Harness your energies and bridle your passions; be calm while you await the majestic unfolding of an endless career of progressive adventure and thrilling discovery.

(from: The Urantia Papers - Paper-140 Section-5)
To a child, happiness is the satisfaction of immediate pleasure craving. The adult is willing to sow seeds of self-denial in order to reap subsequent harvests of augmented happiness. In Jesus' times and since, happiness has all too often been associated with the idea of the possession of wealth. In the story of the Pharisee and the publican praying in the temple, the one felt rich in spirit--egotistical; the other felt "poor in spirit"--humble. One was self-sufficient; the other was teachable and truth-seeking. The poor in spirit seek for goals of spiritual wealth--for God. And such seekers after truth do not have to wait for rewards in a distant future; they are rewarded now. They find the kingdom of heaven within their own hearts, and they experience such happiness now.

The Sermon

What are you Waiting for?
What is it that you Await?

These two sentences basically have the same meaning... don't they?

Except the first perhaps can have a tendency to sound/feel a little more demanding than the second. The first often seems to imply something like, "Quit waiting around."; or "Get it in gear."; or "Stop being lazy."---"What are you Waiting for?"

I like the word Await... well, at least I like it a lot better than the word wait. The word "Wait" brings to mind for me feelings of drudgery... boredom... unfulfillment... impatience "Await", on the other hand, gives me more of a suggestion of Anticipation... a Goal or an Exciting Experience that is within sight... Inevitable... Reachable---"What is it that you Await?"

What are you Waiting for?
What is it that you Await?

Life Sure seems to encompass a Whole lot of Waiting, don't it? Wait for This... Wait for That... Not yet... It isn't time... As Soon as... only after... Wait-wait-Wait-Wait-wait!!!

Awaiting the coming of a desired child has to be one of the Greatest experiences there is... the Anticipation... the Preparation... the Bringing to Life. I have been told by many mothers that by around the 7th or 8th month of Pregnancy, the "Waiting" begins to become rather tedious if not downright agonizing. But... they were Also quick to offer, that knowing What they were awaiting... a delightfully dependent and innocent babe... was what sustained and strengthened them to Endure the waiting. That, and the irrefutable knowledge that an End to that particular waiting was inevitable.

Wouldn't it be Great if we could become "pregnant" with... Isn't it Great when we Become "pregnant" with... our Dreams? It has to be another one of the Greatest experiences there is... the Anticipation... the Preparation... the Bringing to Life. Wouldn't ya Think? Don't ya Think?

I doubt that Anyone goes through life on this world without at One time or another feeling that their Dreams had been Aborted... Thwarted. You've felt that, haven't you? I know I have... more than once... occasionally... from time to time. Usually it was when I thought I would be able to live someone Else's dreams rather than my own. Sometimes it takes me longer than others to realize how Impossible that is. My Dreams... Whatever they be... are a Part of me... are there for a Reason, a Purpose. They have always Been there. Deep inside... sometimes Camouflaged... Sometimes under a layer of thick Dust or even Dirt... but they have never, ever, Really gone away. I'll bet Yours haven't Either, Have they?

We can Share our dreams with one another... we can become a Part of one another's dreams... but we Cannot healthily abandon our Own dreams in the process. Our Dreams are a Gift from God... they are a Valuable and Worthy Part of us... they are there for a Worthwhile Reason, a Supreme Purpose.

In Joyful and Loving Service, Be a part of the unfolding of the dreams of your Loved Ones, your Brothers and Sisters. Encourage them in their dreams. Share in them if it feels right to you. But Most Importantly, become Pregnant with your Own dreams! Anticipate them! Prepare for them! Bring them to Life!! Let them... Help them to... Grow and Mature and Come to Fruit... Within and Without.

What are you Waiting for?
What is it that you Await?

(from: The Urantia Papers - Paper-196 Section-3)
Man's greatest adventure in the flesh consists in the well-balanced and sane effort to advance the borders of self-consciousness out through the dim realms of embryonic soul-consciousness in a wholehearted effort to reach the borderland of spirit-consciousness--contact with the divine presence. Such an experience constitutes God-consciousness, an experience mightily confirmative of the pre-existent truth of the religious experience of knowing God.

(by: Albert Einstein 1879-1955)
A human being is a part of the whole, called by us Universe, a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feelings as something separated from the rest---a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest to us. Our task must be to free from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole nature in its beauty.

(by: Mary Manin Morrissey)
An old story says that some monks in a certain monastery were told that one of them might be the messiah and this possibility transformed their relationships. What if we knew that one of us or our neighbor was called to be the messiah? On the off chance that one among us might be the chosen one, would we not treat ourselves and each other with extraordinary respect? Think about this when you think of yourself and others today.

(from: TOMAS - September 14, 1999 Butler, PA)
“My friends, your adventure in the spirit and in your ascension will be on-going for many cycles of realization and you will become accustomed to these times in your life when you find the thrill of adventure a little more overwhelming than you bargained for.”

(from: The Urantia Papers - Paper-2 Section-7)
The religious challenge of this age is to those farseeing and forward-looking men and women of spiritual insight who will dare to construct a new and appealing philosophy of living out of the enlarged and exquisitely integrated modern concepts of cosmic truth, universe beauty, and divine goodness. Such a new and righteous vision of morality will attract all that is good in the mind of man and challenge that which is best in the human soul. Truth, beauty, and goodness are divine realities, and as man ascends the scale of spiritual living, these supreme qualities of the Eternal become increasingly co-ordinated and unified in God, who is love.

(A Message From The Hopi Elders - Oraibi, Arizona Hopi Nation)
"There is a river flowing now very fast. It is so great and swift, that there are those who will be afraid. They will try to hold on to the shore. They will feel they are being torn apart and will suffer greatly. Know the river has its destination. The elders say we must let go of the shore, push off into the middle of the river, keep our eyes open, and our heads above the water. And I say, see who is in there with you and celebrate.
"At this time in history, we are to take nothing personal. Least of all, ourselves. For the moment that we do, our spiritual growth and journey comes to a halt.
"The time of the lone wolf is over. Gather yourselves!
"Banish the word "struggle" from your attitude and your vocabulary. All that we do now must be done in a sacred manner and in celebration.
"WE ARE THE ONES WE'VE BEEN WAITING FOR."

(from: The RSV Bible - Philippians 3:15)
Let those of us who are mature be thus minded; and if in anything you are otherwise minded, God will reveal that also to you.

The Sermon

What would a Mature and Wise civilization Look like? You've thought about that before, haven't ya? What Will our world will look like... what Should it look like... when humanity grows up?

We will very soon be entering the 21st century... Civilization's 21st Birthday perhaps? I Wonder if it is possible that we as a world will begin acting with Cooperation... with Maturity... with Wisdom... You know, like Adults are supposed to act?

Hey! It could happen... we Could grow up... we Can grow up... we WILL grow up!

The vast Majority of the people in power, the people Ruling our world, are over 55 years old. They were born into times of world war... into times of Very limited communication... into times of, for the most part, doing what one was told by those "in authority" just Because they were in authority. Within the next 10-20 years, they will be almost entirely replaced with people from the Baby Boom generation... a generation that visually witnessed the ravages and horrors of war and demonstrated for Peace... a generation that witnessed what hatred was doing to the world and demonstrated for Love... a generation that recognized that humanity was Destroying it's ecosystem and demonstrated for Environmental Conservation... a generation that learned to Question authority and Demand accountability of it's leaders.

In the 60's and 70's we thought we could Change the World... make it a more Peaceful, Loving, Spiritual and Healthy place to live. Were we Wrong, or just too young to be able to realistically Do anything about it? Do we Still want to make the world into a more Peaceful, Loving, Spiritual and Healthy place to live or have we become disillusioned, complacent, resigned to the Old ways?

As a Cherished Teacher of mine once said, "If not now, then When?"

Are we ready to be a part of ushering the world into Maturity or will we leave it for Another generation and become another part of the problem rather than an active part of the Solution?

I don't know about anyone else, but I am not willing to let go of the Ideals that we fought so hard for in our youth... how about You?

"WE ARE THE ONES WE'VE BEEN WAITING FOR."

Dear God,
Teach us Maturity, Show us Wisdom, and Give us the Drive and Endurance to Wholeheartedly Strive for them. Help us to leave the world a better place than we found it for those whose destiny it is to follow us.

(from: The Urantia Papers - Paper-196 Section-3)
Some men's lives are too great and noble to descend to the low level of being merely successful. The animal must adapt itself to the environment, but the religious man transcends his environment and in this way escapes the limitations of the present material world through this insight of divine love. This concept of love generates in the soul of man that superanimal effort to find truth, beauty, and goodness; and when he does find them, he is glorified in their embrace; he is consumed with the desire to live them, to do righteousness.

(from: Albert Einstein)
The significant problems we face cannot be solved at the same level of thinking we were at when we created them.

(from: The RSV Bible - Matthew 13:15-17)
For this people's heart has grown dull, and their ears are heavy of hearing, and their eyes they have closed, lest they should perceive with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and turn for me to heal them.' But blessed are your eyes, for they see, and your ears, for they hear. Truly, I say to you, many prophets and righteous men longed to see what you see, and did not see it, and to hear what you hear, and did not hear it.

(from: an Unknown Speaker addressing the National Congress of American Indians in the mid 1960's)
"In early days we were close to nature. We judged time, weather conditions, and many things by the elements--the good earth, the blue sky, the flying of geese, and the changing winds. We looked to these for guidance and answers. Our prayers and thanksgiving were said to the four winds--to the East, from whence the new day was born; to the South, which sent the warm breeze which gave a feeling of comfort; to the West, which ended the day and brought rest; and to the North, the Mother of winter whose sharp air awakened a time of preparation for the long days ahead. We lived by God's hand through nature and evaluated the changing winds to tell us or warn us of what was ahead.
“Today we are again evaluating the changing winds. May we be strong in spirit and equal to our Fathers of another day in reading the signs accurately and interpreting them wisely. May Wah-Kon-Tah, the Great Spirit, look down upon us, guide us, inspire us, and give us courage and wisdom. Above all, may He look down upon us and be pleased."

(from: The Urantia Papers - Paper-91 Section-5)
When a group engages in community prayer for moral enhancement and spiritual uplift, such devotions are reactive upon the individuals composing the group; they are all made better because of participation. Even a whole city or an entire nation can be helped by such prayer devotions. Confession, repentance, and prayer have led individuals, cities, nations, and whole races to mighty efforts of reform and courageous deeds of valorous achievement.

(from: “Correcting Time” – ©1999 by Fred F. Harris, Jr.)
“Only your example as servants of the Father's will can motivate people and nations to change for the better. You cannot cajole, or shame or lobby people to progressive upliftment of the spirit. They may be led only by your example and the consequences of your acts. Even on those rare occasions where your personal interaction with another is of spirit teaching value, the effects are fleeting and only repeated cumulative exposure to the positive benefits of spiritual progress is likely to bear fruit. Each of you has an individual duty to conduct yourselves at all times in the fashion we have covered many times before. You probably remember. To conduct yourselves as if God was standing by your side and by your every thought, word and deed you demonstrate your appreciation of the meaning and value of His teachings. That you do so in a fashion that allows the love of the Heavenly Father to flow through you unhindered, directly to the person to whom you are engaged.

(from: The RSV Bible - Corinthians I 12:4-6
Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; and there are varieties of service, but the same Lord; and there are varieties of working, but it is the same God who inspires them all in every one.

(from: Olfana)
“The effort to draw back the curtains of darkness which have kept the beauty of God's light from pervading this world is a most noble attempt of service.”

The Sermon
***********
I saw something on television this last week that made me think. Well... I saw Two Different things Actually that made me think. Now that I Think about it, I saw a whole Bunch of things that made me think... Ya Think? ;-)

So Anyways... the First one I was talking about showed a news clip of college students Demonstrating. It wasn't a clip from the 60's or 70's... I could tell that right away because the "peacekeepers" were not beating them and throwing tear gas into their midst and Shooting them to try and force them into submission... it was a clip of Today's College students. The commentator mentioned that there were actually More students demonstrating Today than there were back when We were doing it. Go Figure! They are Demonstrating against the Big Corporations. Not All of them, mind you... just the ones who continue to immorally pollute our world... just the ones that are getting rich by ravishing our resources without a care at all for whom they may be hurting or what they may be destroying... just the ones that compromise human dignity and self respect. The Jist of what the Students are saying to those Corporations is, "If you Continue to do these things which Rape our Planet and our People and our Future, then WE Refuse to come to Work for you! We will go to work for those who Care about the world... who wish to make it a Better, more Healthy place to live... who are trying NOT to destroy it, but rather to Heal it." What a Concept!!!

Why didn't WE think of that back in the 60's and 70's? I guess back then we thought it was the Governments that were the whole problem. We were too Naive back then to realize that governments are Controlled by Special Interest Lobbyists and by those who "Pay the Way" of our "elected" officials. But then... we've only really Learned that Since the 60's and 70's, so Really we had somewhat of an excuse... don't ya think? So What's our Excuse Today?

The Other thing I saw on TV this week that Really made me think was a Special on PBS. I don't know what it was called, because I turned it on half way through the show. What I had been watching wasn't all that good, so when a particularly repulsive menagerie of commercials---ones that seemed to taker it for granted that we were Stupid and Ignorant enough to believe that Their products would solve all of our problems and alleviate all of our fears---I started switching channels. The Same commercials were no Every broadcast channel. I decided to watch PBS 'till the commercials were over. At first, I thought it was just a rock concert, but they were playing Music from my Youth... Music from... from Woodstock! It WAS Woodstock... I Remembered seeing these film clips Years ago when it was Current---people running around naked... everyone smokin' Pot out in the open... many of the most Popular Musicians of the Time singing about Peace and Love and Freedom---Yeah, It was Woodstock alright. But then the pictures changed. It was still the same songs Pleading for Peace and Love and Freedom, but the pictures were now of Viet Nam... of the Kent State Massacre... of college students being beaten and shot at and treated as criminals... of politicians being caught in their dishonesty... of the Young people demonstrating against All of it; All in the name of Peace and Love and Freedom.

I was Proud to be a part of that generation. I am Still. We Made the world Think. No...the world didn't change overnight as we had expected/hoped it would, Did it? Did we fail then? Did we? In a Lot of ways it may seem so. In Some ways it might seem to have gotten Worse, but I don't Believe it... do You?

Are we not Far more conscious of our Environment and our effect on it than we were before the 60's and 70's... and trying to Heal it?

Are we not Far more aware of Physical and Emotional Abuse... and actively trying to do something about it?

Are we not Far more dedicated to:
Peace rather than to War...
Individual Uniqueness rather than to fitting the old molds...
Discovering New Truths rather than Blindly accepting Everything that was handed down...
to Healing rather than to destruction?

Yes... there are Still a Great Deal of Problems that haven't yet been addressed, that Need addressing. But the Biggest one I see, is that we Still do not realize on a large scale yet that no Single answer will remedy All of the world's Problems. No Single Cause, on it's Own and apart from all the others will suffice to make it all better. They are ALL necessary and they are ALL Valuable as a Part of the Whole and it will take Every One of us supporting what we Believe in to make the World a Healthy and Safe and Loving place for future generations.

Don't let down Now, for God's Sake! We are Just NOW beginning to reach a point in the Social Evolution of our world where we can actually DO something about ushering in Peace and Love and Freedom. Now is the time to become even More Dedicated, More Determined, More Hopeful! We are Coming of Age. The Spiritual Age is Dawning! The Age of Soul and Spirit is gradually but Surely infiltrating the ages of ego and rampant materialism.

Can't ya Feel it? Can't ya See it? Aren't ya a Part of it? Aren't ya Ready for it?

"If not now, then When?"

"WE ARE THE ONES WE'VE BEEN WAITING FOR."

It's Time to Roll up our Sleeves and get Busy... ya Think?

(by: Albert Einstein 1879-1955)
The intuitive mind is a sacred gift and the rational mind is a faithful servant. We have created a society that honors the servant and has forgotten the gift.

(from: the RSV Bible - Peter I 2:1-3)
So put away all malice and all guile and insincerity and envy and all slander. Like newborn babes, long for the pure spiritual milk, that by it you may grow up to salvation; for you have tasted the kindness of the Lord.

(from: the Pocatello Transcript of 10-22-99 – Teacher Daniel)
It is the will of God that you share your inner life with Him. This is the will of God. If you are doing that---and I believe you are to a considerable extent---then whatever it is that you do, moment by moment, it is done within the intention of doing God's will. As you become more comfortable with sharing every aspect of yourself with your Inner Guide, when you realize that God truly does know you better than You know you, that there is no reason or probability of success in hiding any part of yourself from God, then will that sense of being in God's will become more pervasive.

(from: The Tao Te Ching - #68)
The best athlete wants his opponent at his best.
The best general enters the mind of his enemy.
The best businessman serves the communal good.
The best leader follows the will of the people.

All of them embody the virtue of non-competition. Not that they don't love to compete, but they do it in the spirit of play. In this they are like children and in harmony with the Tao.

(from: the Coeur d'Alene Transcript of 10-24-99 – Jessona)
There is a time in the normal and healthy cycle of the mental environment that you let your mind be at play, to free associate, to not be concerned over evaluative judgments of worth, to let the activity of mind be restful. In doing so, you will discover rising to the surface previously unconsidered ideas that you would not have dredged up through a concerted and disciplined mental probing. So, I encourage you to be playful, to let the mind go, to let it romp in the playground. The musicians among you understand how often it is in the jam with other musicians that a new hookline appears that makes for a new song that is not necessarily discovered by deliberately sitting down to compose a hookline. The mind at play is the rearrangement of potentials. The mind at work is the application of potentials. The mind in stillness is an event that has no comparison.

(from: The Urantia Papers – Paper-160 section-3)
The more complex society becomes, and the more the lures of civilization multiply, the more urgent will become the necessity for God-knowing individuals to form such protective habitual practices designed to conserve and augment their spiritual energies.

(from: the Nashville Transcript of 10-24-99 – Teacher Ham)
What are the experiences you remember most vividly? Are they not experiences where you lost yourself in the beauty of the moment?

The Sermon

I've always really Enjoyed Halloween. Dressing up in a Costume... Play acting as a new character while In costume... Free Candy and Treats!!! Well... the Treats are far from free any more since I gotta Buy 'em. ;-) But Still... There is that certain Freedom one feels when wearing a mask and play-acting. Don't ya Think? But ya Know? After a while that Costume starts getting Pretty Uncomfortable. It starts to Itch... starts looking kind of skraggly after a while. Nothing feels So Good as to get that thing Off and take a Shower!

Don't ya wish it was That easy with the "masks" we are so prone to wear in daily life? Just Take it off, and Take a Shower... There it Goes, Down the Drain. Yeah... That would be Nice, Wouldn't it? Ya know, The Trouble with the masks we wear in daily life is, we wear them too long. We forget to take them Off. At First, it's So much fun Play-acting that we almost start to believe we Are the Mask... the Costume. But after a while... the Act starts Itching as bad as the Costume. Doesn't it?

Too often there are masks we wear for Years at a time. We pretend that we EnJoy it but...it Never really feels as good as we Thought it would... Does it? There's Always something that seems to be Missing... Isn't there? The Feeling ya thought it would give you didn't Last nearly as long as you'd Hoped... Did it? Yeah... That's the way it is about Masks, and Costumes, and Acts. The Excitement just goes out of them after a while... and Then they become a Burden.

How do ya get Rid of a mask you've been wearing Far Past it's enjoyment stage? I've said this, “God! I just want to be able to be ME again!!", a Hundred times or more... How about You? Oh to just be able to Openly Share the Truth about what we Feel... about what we Dream about... about Who we Want to Be!!!

Isn't it Great when you find someone who you can just Be You with? Just yourself... No Judgment, but Enjoyment! Share your Dreams... no Ridicule, but Encouragement! Share your Life... No trying to Change one another into someone Else, but Enjoying each other for who you Are! That's what everybody really Wants... isn't it? To be Loved for who you Are, and for what you believe, and for what you Dream? Why is it that People like that are So hard to Find? People you can just Be Yourself with and they Like you Anyways... actually like you Because of who you really are!

Ya ever wear different Masks for different people and then accidentally show the Wrong mask to the Wrong person? Don't ya Hate when that Happens? It gets Kinda' Confusing after a while, Don't it? Wear This mask at work... wear That mask at Home... wear That one over There at Church functions and services... wear Another with Acquaintances... and Another with people you don't know... and... Well, You get the Point. How about those situations where ya get together at the same time with different people that you are used to wearing different Masks with? How are ya supposed to act Then? "GOD, if I could Just Be MYSELF with everybody... it would be So much Simpler... So much Better... so much Freer!!!" Wouldn't it?

Hey! I got an Idea!! What if... what If I just started wearing the Mask of Myself? I'm Sure it would take some getting Use to, but... I'll Bet it would feel Good after a while, Don't you?

Actually, I Tried this and the results just Blew me Away!

I was So caught up in wearing the Masks of Society... of Material success... of Trying to Impress... it felt like I was being Pulled Apart. I Finally got So Fed UP with it all, I tore it all off... and took a Shower... and watched it all go down the drain. I tried wearing the Mask of Myself then. At least it felt like a mask---at first---because everyone I knew Thought it must be a new mask 'cause it was so Different from the Old ones. Most people liked my New Mask! That was what Blew me Away! In actuality, I had in fact taken Off all the masks, and it turned out that they liked my Face... my real Self!

Of course there were also a few who had liked me only for the mask I use to wear for them... for the Masquerade I use to keep active with them... for the Game I use to play with them. I guess they weren't ready to take their Own masks off yet and I Without a mask, Frightened them... reminded them that they still Wore a mask they felt too vulnerable to Remove. Not that I Blame them... my Own masks were Hell to get off and Keep off. They had Protected me! Or had they Imprisoned me? Before it had seemed like protection... and it Was Fun... Once. But it was Indeed also a Prison... one that I feared to escape from... that I Needed to escape from.

I had to Remove all the masks to Discover who I really was... who I Really am... who I really want to Be. But OH, the Freedom... the Satisfaction... the Excitement... the Peace!!!

I will Never go Back! I will Never again Compromise being Exactly who I Am in a vain effort to be something that I think someone else wants me to be! I will Never wear a Mask again!

Well... Except of course... on Halloween. One day a Year is still Fun...

Dear God,
You made me Unique for a Purpose. You made me Myself for a Reason. You give me my Dreams so that I may Strive toward them and One day Live them. Reveal to me my Purpose... Show me the Reason... Share with me and Guide me in the Unfolding of my Dreams. I Guess my masks Never really Fooled You, Did they? Yeah... You always knew who I was Anyway... Didn'tcha? And You Loved me just the Same! Go Figure...! Thanks for letting me Grow up... Thanks for Helping me to grow up... Thanks for loving me for who I am---simply Your Child.
