Story of the Week

"The Value of Gold"
[Author Unknown]

"There was a man born to very poor parents in South Texas one day who learned to be very angry at his poverty growing up. But, he was one of those fortunate men who was able to turn their anger into motivation, and early in his adulthood the man had managed to amass trillions of dollars from working hard. As he aged, the man began to worry about his death, and approached the Lord, asking if he could bring some of his worldly possessions into heaven when he died. The Lord, being an understanding Lord, arranged it, and informed the man that he could bring one box only, instructing him to put whatever he wanted into the box, put it on one of his most expensive boats, and send it out to sea. The man followed the Lord's directions exactly, and after his death the man approached the
gates of heaven."

"As Saint Peter looked up the man's name on his list he noticed special instructions written beside the man's name."

"'This is very strange,' said Saint. Peter, 'Well ... I've never seen anything like this before, but it says here that I'm supposed to allow you to bring one box into heaven with you .. and here it is sitting over here.'"

"Saint Peter picked up the box, and handing it to the man he said, 'I'm sorry .. but .. since this is such an uncommon thing .. knowing that you have been allowed into heaven with one box of anything in the world you want to bring with you.. I'm very curious. Would you mind if I asked what you choose to bring with you?'"

"'Well,' said the man, 'I filled the box up with pure one hundred percent genuine gold.'"

'Saint. Peter was very surprised, and after briefly thinking about this, he gently commented: 'You know, I just can't understand why someone, who could bring anything they wanted to from the world, would bring a box full of pavement.'"
