"At that very moment"
(By Bob Perks - Bob@BobPerks.com)

"It seems to me that the most challenging question in my life right now is whether I matter, " he said.

We were discussing the television show we both watched last night. "Eight simple rules" returned to the air after the death of actor John Ritter. Everyone I spoke to so far today had seen it.

Everyone reacted differently.

Some were moved to tears. Some found it to be sentimental and of little value to them.

"It was a comedy. I wanted to laugh. Everyone was crying around me," one person said.

He just didn't get it.

I was truly saddened by John's death. In my travels I had many long conversations with God about it. I believe my discussion centered around why such a nice, generous, gentle and full of life man, had to die. The logic behind that thinking is weak. There are no "eight simple rules" here and knowing that, I realize there are no good answers that would satisfy me.

But I talk with God about such things anyway. Like the things you discuss with your best friend, who often times just listens knowing you need to talk it through.

So what good came from this loss?

It caused one man to question, "Do I matter?"

A man dies and another wonders if he himself, has made a difference in the world. Why? Because he saw how the world reacted to the loss of John Ritter the actor. He watched last night's show and saw how the death of the character John played had an impact on the fictional world he lived in.

When one dies, no matter who it is, a ripple is sent through the universe. Like tossing a pebble into a pond. Those closest feel the greatest impact. The ripple continues on until those unaware of the source begin to question the change they notice at that very moment.

But it doesn't just happen when someone dies. The moment you were conceived, the moment you were born into the world, ripples, changes, began to occur at that very moment, too.

"Do you matter?" I asked my new friend. "I don't know about yesterday and I have no idea about tomorrow. But, at this very moment, you matter to me."

And another ripple was sent out into the world as he raised his head a little higher and smiled a little more.

All because he mattered "At that very moment."

Dear God,
Help us all to recognize just how much we all really Matter to one another, just as we all matter to You. And also remind us to let others know just how Much and Why they matter.

You ALL are Within the Infinitely Loving Embrace of our Universal Parent,

The Creator's Eternal Love to all of You,
