Greetings my Dearest Sisters and Brothers, and welcome again to Church Within's Story of the Week ["SOW Seeds”].

Today's Story was sent to me back in 1997 and is in fact one of my Very Favorites (given my personal regard for Ritual and Dogma and the like ;-)! I just re-found it today and thought I'd share it with you

This week's SOW Seeds Story, contributed by: Fred Harris

"Untie The Cat"
(Author Unknown)

When the famous guru sat down to worship each evening, the house cat would get in the way and distract the worshippers. So he ordered that the cat be tied up during the evening worship.

After the guru died, the cat continued to be tied during evening worship. And, when the cat expired, another cat was acquired so that it could be duly tied during evening worship.

Centuries later, learned treatises were written by the guru's scholarly disciples on the liturgical significance of tying up a cat while worship is performed.

In religion, symbolism may be either good or bad just to the extent that the symbol does or does not displace the original worshipful idea.
