Story of the Week
The Balloon
(By Oriah Mountain Dreamer)

Yesterday, the playground I walk past on my way to yoga was full of running, laughing, shouting children.

A man in a dark suit, carrying a brief case, was walking ahead of me, moving quickly, as if he were late for a meeting. Suddenly, he stopped and moved into the street toward a small, blue balloon, floating on the pavement. I hadn't even noticed it. Picking it up, he walked over to the playground where six small, round faces peered over a black metal fence, silently watching.

They hadn't called out to either of us, although they'd clearly knocked the balloon over the fence and into the street. As the man softly batted the balloon back into the playground, the children broke into wide grins and a chorus of Thank You's.

It wasn't a big deal, but he'd noticed, he'd stopped. It was a small kindness, a brief moment of connection that made me smile.

May we pay attention today and notice the opportunities to do small kindnesses: to hold a door, to let someone into traffic, to smile and see the cashier, the ticket-taker, the bus driver. Because kindness ripples outward, creating more kindness, and easing our small daily concerns.

Pastor's Quote of the Week
That best portion of a good man's life,
His little, nameless, unremembered acts of kindness and of love.

(From: William Wordsworth (1770 - 1850)

The Prayer
Dear God,
Where we see cruelty, let us counter it with kindness.

You ALL are Within the Infinitely Loving Embrace of our Universal Parent,

The Creator's Eternal Love to all of You,
Pastor Daniel
