Story of the Week
Giving Thanks
(By B.J. Cassady)

The year was 1994, and my wife was terminally ill with cancer. She needed a last-hope operation. No, the operation would not save her life, but possibly extend it. The operation was dangerous, cutting off blood supply to part of the liver, killing part of the liver and the cancer that lived there.

Before I took my sweet love to the hospital, I fasted and prayed. I prayed not for her to get well, but for God's will to be done and to give me the strength to do what I must.

The operation was a success, however, my wife did not wake up as she should have. A day passed, then two… And five days later she still had not awakened. Add to this that she required dialysis on a daily basis because of organ shutdown. I had prayed before I took her to the hospital and received a positive answer that my wife would be okay. But okay in what sense?

The doctor told me on Friday that my wife could not survive over the weekend they way she was. He told me he was going to start a medication that works in only five percent of the cases. Wow, a one in twenty shot! So the odds were 95 percent against her…

This was my test of faith. Would I believe facts or have faith? I choose faith. In fact, I stayed home the next day, Saturday to do homework, pay bills and rest.

Sunday, when I woke up, I KNEW my wife was okay. I was so certain that I bought a dozen roses and a congratulations card (not a get well card) and went to the hospital. I entered her room and, sitting on the side of the bed, confused but alive, was my wife.

I laughed, I cried, then I got down on my knees and gave Thanks… Yes, as simple as it sounds, I gave thanks to God for keeping His promise.

What did I learn from that episode? Hope, prayer and faith are the cornerstones of our life if we just trust in ourselves and turn the large problems over to a higher power.

Pastor's Quote of the Week
If you can't have faith in what is held up to you for faith, you must find things to believe in yourself, for a life without faith in something is too narrow a space to live.

(From: George E. Woodberry )

The Prayer
Dear God,
I trust in the perfection of your will.

You ALL are Within the Infinitely Loving Embrace of our Universal Parent,

The Creator's Eternal Love to all of You,
Pastor Daniel
