9-6-98 Sunday Service of Church Within #102
Today's Service is offered by: Pastor Daniel Joseph Megow

Greetings my Dearest Sisters and Brothers, and welcome once again to The Church that is Within.

Today will Never, Ever happen again. How might you like to be able to remember it? Is there anything you can personally do to insure that the memory is a good one? If you let God help you, there is indeed!

(from: the KJV Bible - Luke 18:10-14)
Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican. The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican. I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess. And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner. I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.

(from: the RSV Bible - Matthew 6:5-8)
And when you pray, you must not be like the hypocrites; for they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and at the street corners, that they may be seen by men. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. But when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you. And in praying do not heap up empty phrases as the Gentiles do; for they think that they will be heard for their many words. Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.

(The Urantia Papers - Paper-140 Section-5)
        1. "Happy are the poor in spirit--the humble." To a child, happiness is the satisfaction of immediate pleasure craving. The adult is willing to sow seeds of self-denial in order to reap subsequent harvests of augmented happiness. In Jesus' times and since, happiness has all too often been associated with the idea of the possession of wealth. In the story of the Pharisee and the publican praying in the temple, the one felt rich in spirit -- egotistical; the other felt "poor in spirit"-- humble. One was self-sufficient; the other was teachable and truth-seeking. The poor in spirit seek for goals of spiritual wealth--for God. And such seekers after truth do not have to wait for rewards in a distant future; they are rewarded now. They find the kingdom of heaven within their own hearts, and they experience such happiness now.

(from: an Elyon Transcript - CDA TeaM)
"I would like to encourage you in your spiritually focused endeavors. My focus is on the word "investment". You use this word in relation to monetary gain and application of time in hopes of future return. When it comes to the realm of spirituality, it is better to look at this word as "becoming clothed in", to take upon you all that is true, beautiful, and good. Spiritual investment has no lag factor in its rewards. How you apply yourself today rewards you today. True, it may require an interval of time before your mind acknowledges, becomes aware of, your reward. But on the level of soul, in association with the Father's Spirit, you have what you invest in now. In a sense, you reap as you sow. One of the personally beneficial aspects of service, is that it allows you to witness your growth. [Jesus] has said that whatsoever you do for his little ones you do for him. I also ask you to remember that whatsoever you do for others you are doing for yourself. It is because you display to your uncertain minds your attainment, and as you give you immediately receive."

The Sermon
What can we truly do for others? How can we help those in need?

Well... we could tell them about all the things that we think they should improve about themselves... ya know... enlighten them as to all of the things that we think they're doing that are unhealthy or stupid. That should really help them to be better people, don't ya think? I know I love it when people do that for me, don't you? ... er... well... on second thought, I really don't care for it all that much, so maybe that's not the best idea.

Let me try again... seriously this time...

What can we truly do for others? How can we help those in need?

There is One thing that we can do, and really only one thing that we Need to do. We can Love them. That's it. Case solved.

Yeah... but does Love put food on the table? Does it clothe you or put a roof over your head? Does it provide for the necessities of life, or the wants and desires? Well... as a matter of fact, if ya think about it, it Does provide for all of those things, doesn't it? Of course we Can choose to see those things as some kind of obligation or burden or something, rather than an act of Love and Service... but why in heaven's name would we want to see them that way? Doing something for someone because you Want to is far more satisfying than doing something for someone because you Have to, isn't it? I know I like it a whole lot more.

Don't you Want to do good things for people that you Love? Of Course you do... it's only natural. Don't you just love it when people Encourage you in your pursuit of the things you care about... the things that are meaningful to you? Do you give supportive encouragement to people to be themselves and to follow their soul's dreams? Don't you love the look of loving gratitude and respect ya get when you do?

The Greatest thing about loving someone is when they reflect it back to you. It just makes you feel all... well... Good inside. It never ceases to amaze me how many people sincerely return love... in a smile or a glance, in a helping hand or in a caring word... when I give it first to them. Sure, there's some that won't, but very few in comparison. With little kids you can pretty much count on a 100% return from your investment of genuine Love. Kid's are Great, aren't they? Even adults are in the 70-80% range if they can tell that you're sincere. I wonder how many opportunities to give and receive God's love I miss every day? Geez... I better start being more aware... don't ya Think?

The Prayer
Dearest, most Loving Father/Mother of all, in whom we all consist,
We give to you our devotion. Guide us in our every thought, word and deed as we participate and progress in the unfoldment of your material universe. We worship you for you are the unfathomable source of all that is loving, true, beautiful and good. We live for your glory and we praise you that you would allow us to be so intimately a part of it. Thank you dear Father/Mother for all that you are, and for all that we are becoming.
You ALL are Within the Infinitely Loving Embrace of our Universal Parent,

The Creator's Infinite Love, through me, to all of You,
Pastor Daniel

9-13-98 Sunday Service of Church Within #103

Greetings my Dearest Sisters and Brothers, and welcome once again to The Church that is Within.

Pastor Daniel here…

Today's Service is offered by the Newest Ordained Minister of Church Within. This is a Lady that I have respected and admired for many years. Her Deep Love and Compassion and willingness to be in Service to others is such a Beautiful reflection of our Divine Parent, that we were quite honored when she asked if she could join us as an Ordained Minister of Church Within. She has now completed all of the requirements to do so, and as of 9/9/98, she is a very special part of the Church Within Family.

There are many of you who receive this weekly service who already know and love her, and there are also many of you who have not previously had the opportunity. Today you will get that opportunity.

It is with Great Joy, that I introduce to you...
Minister JoiLin Johnson of Church Within.

The Sermon
Good morning siblings!

Today, as I write this, while it may be gray and raining outside, we all
know the Son is shining from within all of our hearts! It's a very
special day for me in so many different ways....I'm here in Pensacola,
Florida, visiting with my youngest daughter, son-in-law and newest you -know- that's reason enough alone to rejoice...yet
there's more...yesterday I finished the work that will allow me a place
within this lovely place of worship and peace with all of you...marking
the real beginning of my ministry!...yet, this wasn't enough, the Father
through His open heart has given me another gift, one I have prayed for
just as oldest daughter, the one who has been more or less
estranged from her family, is about to give birth to my second
granddaughter (!)...and it will be through her that my daughter will come
back into the arms of her family...she will truly be the bridge of Love
for us all! Oh! What a blessed day this is for me!

And now to what will be my first address as a working member of The
Church Within:

Have you ever wondered about why it is we all have so many dreams?.....
Dreams of doing...or becoming?..... Dreams that are really about our
desires to be Creative?.....

What do you dream about for yourself?.....
Have you put limits on them....or on yourself?....
Will there be a magic age, or time, when you will allow them to
come alive?

I can remember from early on in my pre-teen years, wanting to -become...
An artist...a singer...a dancer, (a ballerina really)... A
teacher...a nurse...a nun!....(yes, really!)....a healer...a
psychologist... Why, I even dreamed of becoming a minister (!).... An
ecologist...a botanist...a forest ranger...a writer....a poet...

Where do you think these dreams come from....really?

Well, I've managed to live for a considerable number of years by now, and
through them all, my dreams have stayed alive... Deep within my heart....

I always wondered at them...wondered where they came from....
And why or how they managed to stay so alive...
Especially in light of my own negative belief system....
Telling me I was not smart enough...not old enough...not -gifted-
Telling me they were, after all, only dreams...
And dreams were just that.... only -dreams-

But ARE they?......

Now, I'd like to share something with you....sort of a secret....
And probably one of the best kept secrets of our world...
Dreams are NOT just dreams!
They are the Creative gifts our Father has given to each of us...
Given, by the way with no strings attached.....
Ours to explore...develop...and use....
Or not....
Ours to choose to be.... or be...
That is truly the it not?....

Think about your own dreams for a moment....
Have you allowed them to die?
For truly, only -you- have that power.

Or are they still there...
As alive as when you first discovered them?
I'll just bet they are!
But if you've managed to cover them over,
Through believing you could never accomplish them....
And think again....
Love yourself enough to believe, and come to -know-
That our Father -never- gives us empty gifts....
Look once again...inside...
Allow yourself to -open- them...
Think of them as the -seeds- of your -potential- becoming....
That will grow, if you are willing, into small seedlings...
Seedlings that will help you to kindle your own faith...
In yourself...and in your Father's everlasting Love for you.

After all, what are seeds meant for...if not to become....
First small seeds in the throes of birth...their germination...
Then to spring forth through the normal birthing process,
Incumbent in all potential life forms....
Until they truly become...
Vibrant, living expressions of our Father's Love for us,
And ours for Him.

Are you remembering your own dreams now?
Remembering when they first came into your awareness?
Remember, now, the -emotion- that sprang from your heart
When first you thought about them.
That was your Father talking to you....
Trying to nurture the gifts he gave, (your potential becoming)
Through the only means He had to -reach- both your heart and your mind...
Trying to help you push through your human tendency To disbelieve in your
own God-given power.

Believe me when I tell you these dreams really -are- yours!
Why else would He have given them,
And helped you to keep them alive all these years?

Believe in yourself!
Believe in your own creativity!
Know that as a co-creative child of our Loving Father,
Nothing, absolutely -nothing- is impossible for you to achieve,
When you accept your
Rightful and destined place at His side!

So Beloved, remember your dreams...
Take them out of their hidden or buried places in your heart,
Breathe the breath of Life on them....
Let them take wing, as a fledgling takes to flight,
Trusting that though you may falter,
Or even fall....
You will not fall too far from the nest...
And each time you take to the air once again,
You will soar ever higher in the air currents
Of your parents Love for you...
For you are their precious...
and wholly unique child,
Whose true destiny is to become...
A Living, Loving Reflection of themselves...
With the power to Create and Live
In the splendor of their reflected Light.

Go now, into your day, giving yourself permission
To rekindle those dreams....
Believe in them...
Trust in your Father's Love for you...
Know that through that Love,
All things are possible...
Even Dreams!

May God Bless and keep each of you through the coming week and always,

JoiLin Johnson XO
Minister of Church Within

9-20-98 Sunday Service of Church Within #104
Today's Service is offered by: Pastor Daniel Joseph Megow

Greetings my Dearest Sisters and Brothers, and welcome once again to The Church that is Within.

Ya ever take those marriage tests… love tests… spirituality tests?

(from: the KJV Bible - John 20:30)
Now Jesus did many other signs in the presence of the disciples, which are not written in this book

(The Urantia Papers - Paper-146 Section-3)
"True and genuine inward certainty does not in the least fear outward analysis, nor does truth resent honest criticism. You should never forget that intolerance is the mask covering up the entertainment of secret doubts as to the trueness of one's belief. No man is at any time disturbed by his neighbor's attitude when he has perfect confidence in the truth of that which he wholeheartedly believes. Courage is the confidence of thoroughgoing honesty about those things which one professes to believe. Sincere men are unafraid of the critical examination of their true convictions and noble ideals."

(from: "Conviction of the Heart" by Kenny Loggins & Guy Thomas)
"when will we live With Conviction of the Heart?"

(The Urantia Papers - Paper-195 Section-9)
Primitive man lived a life of superstitious bondage to religious fear. Modern, civilized men dread the thought of falling under the dominance of strong religious convictions. Thinking man has always feared to be held by a religion. When a strong and moving religion threatens to dominate him, he invariably tries to rationalize, traditionalize, and institutionalize it, thereby hoping to gain control of it. By such procedure, even a revealed religion becomes man-made and man-dominated. Modern men and women of intelligence evade the religion of Jesus because of their fears of what it will do to them--and with them. And all such fears are well founded. The religion of Jesus does, indeed, dominate and transform its believers, demanding that men dedicate their lives to seeking for a knowledge of the will of the Father in heaven and requiring that the energies of living be consecrated to the unselfish service of the brotherhood of man.

(The Urantia Papers - Paper-155 Section-6)
It is not so important that you should know about the fact of God as that you should increasingly grow in the ability to feel the presence of God.
When you once begin to find God in your soul, presently you will begin to discover him in other men's souls and eventually in all the creatures and creations of a mighty universe.

(from the song: "Glory of Love")
"We'll live forever, knowing together that we did it all for the Glory of Love."

The Sermon
See how you "measure up" to your own highest ideals of Truth... Take the Truth Test!

1.] Do you love Truth... or do you fear Truth?

2.] Do you love Truth enough to pursue it wherever that may lead... or do you fear to let your understanding of Truth grow?

3.] Do you spend more of your time seeking Truth... or avoiding Truth?

4.] Is Truth something you value enough to stand up for... or would you rather just ignore instances when you see Truth violated?

5.] Is Truth an Always thing... or is Truth OK to compromise because others do or have before?

6.] Do you try to expand your understanding of Truth... or do you believe that you already have all of Truth that there is to discover?

7.] Do you expect Truth of yourself, your loved ones, of your leaders... or is it more comfortable to turn away from Truth?

8.] Do you use Truth as a Tool for growth... or do you use Truth as a Weapon for manipulation?

9.] Do you think telling "little white lies" can be habit forming... or are "little white lies" perfectly acceptable?

10.] Do you think that others would like if you lied to them?

11.] Do you like it when others lie to you?

12.] Do you love Truth... or do you fear Truth?

OK... now score yourself. ;-) You didn't think I was going to tell you how to do that did you? Do you need someone to tell you how you scored?

How did you score yourself?

Are you satisfied with your score?

Do you think you can/should improve it?

Yeah... me too. So how do we go about it?

The Prayer
Dear Ever Loving Parent,
Help me to be more truthful today than I was yesterday. Help me to love truth as I love You, for when I discover more of it I discover more of You.

You ALL are Within the Infinitely Loving Embrace of our Universal Parent,

The Creator's Infinite Love, through me, to all of You,
Pastor Daniel

9-26-98 Sunday Service of Church Within #105
Today's Service is offered by: Pastor Daniel Joseph Megow

Greetings my Dearest Sisters and Brothers, and welcome once again to The Church that is Within.

Today begins the Third Year of our Weekly Sunday Services. I can hardly Wait to see what God has in store for us in the next 52 weeks. This being the two year anniversary of the Church Within Sunday Services, I thought I would share a little of what is going on within the Church.

First of all I would like to again welcome Joilin Johnson of Lafayette, Colorado as our Newest ordained Minister. She adds Much to our family.
Speaking of new members of the Church Within Family, I would like also to Welcome Judy Girard as our new corporate Vice President of Operations and member of the Board of Directors. Judy brings with her a Masters in Psychology and is a highly regarded Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Judy has Served as a Hospital Chaplain and is quite knowledgeable about church organization. We are so very fortunate to have her as a part of our Team!
Starting in October, we will be having weekly Inspiration and Fellowship meetings in our home each week followed by a "Stone Soup" Potluck and Bread Breaking. We are also in the process of looking for a place that will accommodate our offices, weekly Fellowships and our first "Inner Journey Self Enrichment Center", for which we have recently started a Building Fund.
Since October 23rd, 1995 when we first incorporated as a Non-Profit Church, ours has been "A Journey in Faith". Seldom has it been easy, but Always has it been entirely rewarding and stimulative of Growth. Never have our Steps in Faith proved unproductive, although often were the results other than we had initially imagined. Never again will I question the effectiveness of stepping forward in Childlike Faith in the Overcare and Love of our Divine Parent.

One small Step in Faith, is as a Giant Leap toward Spiritual Fulfillment.

(from: the Baghavad-Gita 18.49)
"The person whose mind is always free from attachment, who has subdued the mind and senses, and who is free from desires, attains the supreme perfection of freedom from (the bondage of) Karma through renunciation.

(from the Tao Te Ching - #27)
A good traveler has no fixed plans and is not intent upon arriving.
A good artist lets his intuition lead him wherever it wants.
A good scientist has freed himself of concepts
and keeps his mind open to what is.

(from the Tao Te Ching - #76)
Men are born soft and supple;
dead, they are stiff and hard.
Plants are born tender and pliant;
dead, they are brittle and dry.

Thus whoever is stiff and inflexible
is a disciple of death.
Whoever is soft and yielding
is a disciple of life.

The hard and stiff will be broken.
The soft and supple will prevail.

(The Urantia Papers - Paper-48 Section-6)
Even as mortals, so have these angels been father to many disappointments, and they will point out that sometimes your most disappointing disappointments have become your greatest blessings. Sometimes the planting of a seed necessitates its death, the death of your fondest hopes, before it can be reborn to bear the fruits of new life and new opportunity. And from them you will learn to suffer less through sorrow and disappointment, first, by making fewer personal plans concerning other personalities, and then, by accepting your lot when you have faithfully performed your duty.
You will learn that you increase your burdens and decrease the likelihood of success by taking yourself too seriously.

(from the Tao Te Ching - #55)
The Master's power is like this.
He lets all things come and go effortlessly, without desire.
He never expects results; thus he is never disappointed.
He is never disappointed; thus his spirit never grows old.

(from: the RSV Bible - Romans 12:4-18)
For as in one body we have many members, and all the members do not have the same function, so we, though many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another. Having gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, in proportion to our faith; if service, in our serving; he who teaches, in his teaching; he who exhorts, in his exhortation; he who contributes, in liberality; he who gives aid, with zeal; he who does acts of mercy, with cheerfulness. Let love be genuine; hate what is evil, hold fast to what is good; love one another with brotherly affection; outdo one another in showing honor. Never flag in zeal, be aglow with the Spirit, serve the Lord. Rejoice in your hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer. Contribute to the needs of the saints, practice hospitality. Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse them. Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep. Live in harmony with one another; do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly; never be conceited. Repay no one evil for evil, but take thought for what is noble in the sight of all. If possible, so far as it depends upon you, live peaceably with all.

(The Urantia Papers - Paper-181 Section-1)
The peace of Jesus is the joy and satisfaction of a God-knowing individual who has achieved the triumph of learning fully how to do the will of God while living the mortal life in the flesh. The peace of Jesus' mind was founded on an absolute human faith in the actuality of the divine Father's wise and sympathetic overcare. Jesus had trouble on earth, he has even been falsely called the "man of sorrows," but in and through all of these experiences he enjoyed the comfort of that confidence which ever empowered him to proceed with his life purpose in the full assurance that he was achieving the Father's will.

The Sermon
So, what should we talk about today? Oh, Yeah... that Faith thing again.

Faith is said to be the Key to Heaven. It has also been said, "By Faith alone are you saved." If there is any truth to these statements, then Faith is a pretty important thing... don't ya think? Should it not play a very Large role in our lives? What is the most Effective way to live and spiritually Prosper in Faith? How does one exercise it so as to get the Greatest benefit from it?

I guess all I can really do is to give you an example of how Faith works for me.

I used to think that my Faith was what others told me I should believe... ya know... Theology. Like, "What faith are you?" Uh, Catholic... Baptist... Presbyterian... Buddhist... Taoist... My faith I thought, was a "title". It gave me a sense of belonging to something, but it was more just a word than a way to discover God's will in my life.

Then it became the catch all answer for all those things that I couldn't believe in. Religious teachers seemed to like this use of faith when I would ask a question they didn't have a satisfactory answer for. "You just have to have Faith!" [that what I tell you is true.] This was rarely successful in bringing me to a greater understanding of God. It didn't impress me as being "the Key to Heaven." By THIS will I be saved?

At some point I realized that Faith must be something more than that. Faith became a belief in my own highest understanding of God. Not bad... it stimulated me into trying to find out more about God. I became a "seeker"... That felt a little better. My perspectives grew broader... the larger your perspective, the more you can see. My understanding of Faith at that time was that if I prayed for something and my Faith was strong and unbending enough, I would get exactly what I prayed for. When I didn't get what I wanted, it was just 'cause my Faith wasn't strong enough. But... too often I didn't get what I asked for even when my belief was unquestionable. "Hey, what's the deal God?" "I had Faith in You! I had Faith that I would get THAT job... THAT car... THAT house... THAT person to love me... SO WHAT HAPPENED, HUH? Where's that Faith Thing getting me anyways?" "HUMPH!"

That got me to start playing around with the concept of Faith. What if I was to... like... just have Faith that God would always give me what I really needed. If it was what I needed, then That was really what I Wanted, wasn't it? The Faith that God would provide for me as does a Wise and Loving Parent... not necessarily everything I may immaturely ask for, but everything I need to grow and mature and be truly happy. I could just hang out and everything I needed would simply come my way without effort. Cool! I did a lot of sitting around waiting.

"There seems to be something missing here God. What is it? What am I not getting? I feel like I need to be Doing something!" "Huh?" "Whaddaya mean, 'Then Do something'?" "What if I do something Wrong? I want to do Your Will! How can I know what that is?" "What's that?" You mean, if it seems like it Could be Your will, then I should follow up on it and You will let me know if it is or not? If I have Faith enough to pursue all avenues that present themselves to me, You will show me which is the Best... which is Your Will? "How will You do That?" Oh... the ones that bear Fruit ARE Your will? "What about all the ones that don't work out? They would seem to be a waste of time..." Look for What gift? There's a gift in Every act of Faith... even when it doesn't seem to manifest any Fruits? What? In each there is a piece of the Greater Gift? "Well... That's hard to see sometimes..." "Well, yeah... Sure I'll try to see the little gifts as well, but..." Say what? Faith? "Well... I guess it's worth a try."

Ya know what? It WORKS!! There IS a Gift in every step taken in Faith... and it's usually quite a wonderful Surprise.

The Prayer
OK God. Where would You have me step today? How shall we be about Your Will? Show me what to do next. Strengthen my Faith.

You ALL are Within the Infinitely Loving Embrace of our Universal Parent,

The Creator's Infinite Love, through me, to all of You,
Pastor Daniel
